Kathleen V. Adams
MERIDEN — Kathleen V. Adams, 94, of Catlin Street, wife of the late Robert G. Hazlett, died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at Middlesex Convalescent Center.
Born Feb. 13, 1904, in Bristol, she was the daughter of the late Henry Joseph and Catherine T. (Mullen) Adams. Mrs. Adams was employed by New Departure in Meriden and was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.
She is survived by two nieces, three nephews; and also great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Adams was predeceased by two sisters and one brother.
Graveside services were held on Thursday, Oct. 29, with the Rev. Robert Roy officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
Thomas M. Fitzgibbons
MERIDEN — Thomas Michael Fitzgibbons IV, 21, beloved son of Thomas M. and Daryl Coddington Fitzgibbons, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998.
He was born June 25, 1977, in Meriden, and attended St. Stanislaus School and Lincoln Middle School. He graduated with honors from Orville H. Platt High School with the class of 1996. In his senior year, he won the John F. Kennedy Award for excellence in U.S. History. He attended Southern Connecticut State University where he was on the dean's list, majoring in sociology. Tom was an accomplished snowboarder and his family enjoyed watching his skills and tricks. He played guitar for a number of years and showed an interest in drawing.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Meghen Fitzgibbons; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Burton Dingwell; his cousins, Erica and Melissa Gregory; his aunt, Shirley Coddington; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from the Fitzgibbons and Dingwell families. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Paul and Dorothy Coddington, and by an aunt, Kristen Dingwell.
A private funeral for the immediate family will be held on Monday, Nov. 2. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. A memorial service to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the South Meriden Trinity United Methodist Church, 145 Main St., South Meriden. The Rev. Patrick Riley Cameron and the Rev. Richard Haverly will officiate. Family and friends are welcome to come and honor Tom's life. If desired, donations in Tom's memory may be made to the Memorial Fund at the South Meriden Trinity United Methodist Church, 145 Main St., South Meriden, CT 06451.
Frances Harwood
SOUTHINGTON — Frances (Bassett) Harwood, 76, of Southington, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998. She was the widow of William R. Harwood.
She was born on May 31, 1922, in New Britain, the daughter of the late Philip G. and Florence (Yeomans) Bassett. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Southington. She was the past president of the Southington Women's Club, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Southington Community Theatre.
She is survived by a son, Col. David B. Harwood of AL.; a daughter-in-law, Carol L. Harwood of Fla.; and four grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Col. William R. Harwood Jr.
A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced in the future. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA of Central Conn., 205 W. Main St., New Britain, CT 06050; or the First Congregational Church of Southington, 37 Main St., Southington, CT 06489.
Charles Johnson
MERIDEN — Charles Johnson, 69, of 55 Willow St., husband of Mary (Watkins) Johnson, died suddenly Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at home.
Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Zachary, La., and had lived in Meriden since 1951. He was employed by Cytec in Wallingford for 40 years, retiring in 1991. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served with the U.S. Army.
Besides his wife, Mary, he is survived by a daughter, Helaine; four sons, Charles Jr., Ronnie, Carlton and Eric; one sister, Levenia; and one brother, Robert; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Johnson was predeceased by a son, Ellsworth.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. A private burial will be held in Louisiana at the convenience of the family.
Julie Kay
SOUTHINGTON — Julie (Langenfeld) Kay, 35, of 36 Darling St., died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at home. She was the wife of Larry W. Kay.
Born June 29, 1963, in Hartford, the daughter of Herbert Langenfeld of Vienna, Va., and the late Edna Langenfeld Blair.
Besides her husband and father, she is survived by two sons, Nicholas Phelps of Southington and Jesse Walker of Winsted; three sisters, Eve Pech of Barkhamsted, Kate Stoezner of Hartland and Tara Lefebvre of Rheinhold, Penn.
The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made for Julie's children, c/o Lafayette Bank, 130 N. Kathleen Nelson
MERIDEN — Kathleen Nelson, 78, of 35 Pratt St., Meriden, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, at MidState Medical Center.
Born Aug. 8, 1920, in Oxford, Maine, the daughter of the late Wesley and Elizabeth Dorsey Nelson, she had been a resident of Meriden for over 40 years. She was a member of the Mount Hebron Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the usher board for a number of years. She retired from Pyramid Technology Inc. in 1996.
Miss Nelson is survived by a sister, Mary Nelson Jones of 111 Earl St., Hartford; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Wesley Clinton Nelson and James Matthew Nelson, and a sister, Lessie M. Nelson Henderson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at the Mount Hebron Baptist Church, 84 Franklin St., Meriden. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at the church. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery
in Meriden.
Vincent R. Zolkiewicz
WALLINGFORD — Vincent R. Zolkiewicz, 72, loving husband of Velma Dighello Zolkiewicz of Durham Road, Wallingford, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998 at MidState Medical Center.
Mr. Zolkiewicz was born in Wallingford April 18, 1926, a son of the late Thaddeus and Pauline Pomykala Zolkiewicz. He was a life long resident here. He had been a metallurgist at the former Detroit Steel Corporation in Hamden for 30 years until his retirement in 1988. A parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church where he had served as an usher for many years, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Pinta Council No. 5. He was also a member of the American Society for Metals and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Besides his wife Velma, he is survived by his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Zolkiewicz-Ives and Richard P. Ives of Wallingford; his mother-in-law, Esther DeMarco Dighello of Wallingford; three sisters, Amelia (Mrs. Raymond) Drehs of Southington, Sophie (Mrs. Leo) Albertini and Pauline (Mrs. Archie) Passmore, both of Wallingford; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Edward Zolkiewicz of Wallingford and Theodore and Virginia Zolkiewicz of North Haven; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Henry Zolkiewicz.
His family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment, with military honors, will be in St. John's Cemetery. STELLA H. GOFF
DANBURY — Stella H. Goff, 91, of 25 Beaver St., wife of the late Phillip Goff, died on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at Cedar Lane Health Care Center in Waterbury after a brief illness.
Born in Middletown on Sept. 29, 1906, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen Radziwon. She had been a resident of Danbury most of her life before moving to Waterbury seven years ago. Mrs. Goff was employed by Grandieri Clothing Factory in Danbury.
She is survived by five nieces, Beverly Simmons, Dolores Pegolo, Ann Radziwon, Betty Bengston and Carole Litch; and by three nephews, Richard Radziwon, Robert Radziwon and William Roberts. Mrs. Goff was predeceased by three sisters, Mrs. Bernice Roberts, Mrs. Mary Bossick and Mrs. Lucille Klick; and by three brothers, Walter, John and Frank Radziwon.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Meriden. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery
in Middletown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. prior to Mass.
ROSE STAK
WALLINGFORD — Rose Barry Stak, 78, of S. Orchard Street, Wallingford, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center, West Campus, Meriden, after a long illness. She was the wife of Louis E. Stak.
Mrs. Stak was born in Wallingford, on Dec. 4, 1920, and was the daughter of the late David W. and Rhea Bordeleau Barry. A lifelong resident of Wallingford, she had worked for the New Haven Register for 21 years until her retirement.
Besides her husband, she leaves daughters, Roberta Stak of Monroe and Luann Stak of Wallingford; brothers, Richard Barry of North Haven and Robert Barry of Wallingford. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, David Barry.
Private funeral services will be under the direction of the Fitzgerald Memorial Funeral Home, 209 Center St., Wallingford. There will be no visiting hours. Interment will be in the In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford.
