John N. Carlin

John N. Carlin of Bradenton, Fla., a former Stamford resident, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001 at home. He was 82.

He died of a stroke after a battle with diabetes, according to his family.

Born April 18, 1918, in Waterbury, he was a son of the late John Vincent Carlin and Irene Donnelly.

Mr. Carlin grew up in Hamden, graduating from Hillhouse High School in 1936. He graduated from Yale University in 1940. He was a member of the Navy ROTC. He was attending Harvard Law School when he was called to active duty in 1941.

He attended the Naval Intelligence School and was assigned to the coding room at the U.S. Embassy in London as a special naval observer. In 1942, he served as a turret officer on the USS Washington in the North Atlantic. He participated in the third battle of Savo Island, when the USS Washington moved to the South Pacific.

He also served as beach master on Guadalcanal and returned to England as a shipping officer, where he participated in logistical planning for the invasion of Europe. He achieved the rank of lieutenant commander.

After World War II, Mr. Carlin pursued a career in the publishing and advertising business. He worked for McGraw-Hill in New York City as a circulation manager, and later with American Aviation Publications in Washington , D.C. He was vice president of Guy Yolton Advertising in Washington , D.C.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Carlin of Bradenton; three sons, John Michael Carlin of Hyde Park, N.Y., Brian Davey Carlin and Kevin Christopher Carlin, both of Severna Park, Md.; and a brother, Earl P. Carlin of Branford.

A funeral service and burial will take place in the spring at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

All County Funeral Home, Lake Worth, Fla., is handling arrangements.

Richard A. Fontana

Richard A. Fontana, a resident of Ardsley, N.Y., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001 at Community Hospital in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. He was 67.

Annette Maciejczyk

Annette Maciejczyk, a Norwalk resident for the past 20 years and a former Stamford resident, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001 at Norwalk Hospital. She was 81.

Mildred A. Maus

Mildred A. Maus, a Southbury resident, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001 at home. She was 90.

Lilia Rivera

Lilia Rivera of Stratford, a former Stamford resident, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001 at Mediplex in Darien. She was 63.

Ellen Sheridan

Ellen Sheridan, a Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 at the William and Sally Tandet Center for Continuing Care in Stamford. She was 90.

Nicola Capomolla

Nicola Capomolla, a resident of Arena, Vibo Valente, Italy, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001 at home. He was 78.

Carolyn P. Franklino

Carolyn P. Franklino, a longtime Norwalk resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 at Honey Hill Care Center in Norwalk. She was 86.

Melvin J. Goldberg

Melvin J. Goldberg of Lebanon, a former Stamford resident, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001 during a vacation in the Galapagos, Ecuador. He was 73.

Ann E. Licari

Ann E. Licari, a lifelong Norwalk resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 at Norwalk Hospital. She was 83.

Margrethe Meyer

Margrethe O. Meyer, a Westport resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2001 at United Hospital in Port Chester, N.Y. She was 63.

Deborah J. Osborn

Deborah Joan Osborn of Bridgeport, a former Stamford resident, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001 at home. She was 52.

Willie D. Scott

Willie Dee Scott, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. He was 41.

Ana J. Torres

Ana J. Torres, a Stamford resident for two years, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. She was 69.

David Zala

David Zala, a Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. He was 69.

Anita Ventrella Lapolla

Anita Ventrella Lapolla, a New Canaan resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 at Norwalk Hospital. She was 86.

She died of natural causes, according to her family.

Born Aug. 16, 1914, in Norwalk, she was a daughter of the late Philip and Filomena Ventrella.

Mrs. Lapolla is survived by her husband, Louis Lapolla Sr. of New Canaan; a son, Jack Lapolla of New Canaan; a sister, Helen Demott of Wilton; and three grandchildren.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Anthony Ventrella, Peter Ventrella and Robert Ventrella.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 2, 2001 at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001 at St. Aloysius Church, 40 Maple St., New Canaan.

Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan.

Anthony J. Mennona Sr.

Anthony J. Mennona Sr. of Stamford died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. He was 89.

He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.

Born May 30, 1911, in New York City, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Angela Maria Mennona.

Mr. Mennona was a retired carpenter, having worked for various construction companies. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church of Stamford and St. Cecilia Church of Clearwater, Fla. He was a resident of Clearwater for 15 years before moving back to Stamford in 1998.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Victoria Racaniello Mennona of Stamford; a daughter, Victoria Iacuzio of Stamford; a son, Anthony J. Mennona Jr. of Stamford; three sisters, Ann Farina of Lutz, Fla., Theresa Racaniello of Bradenton, Fla., and Millie Passero of Stamford; a brother, Joseph Mennona of Brookfield; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Patrick Mennona.

Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 2, 2001 at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.

A procession will leave the funeral home at 8:50 a.m. and travel to Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford, for a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m.

Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Darien.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care, 1029 Main St., Stamford, CT 06902.

Marie-Ange Lauture Alix, a Stamford resident for 18 years, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001 at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. She was 50.

Donald George Benham

Donald George Benham, a Greenwich resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 at The Nathaniel Witherell nursing home in Greenwich. He was 78.

Adrienne L. Busak

Adrienne L. (Ann) Busak, a Stamford native and Norwalk resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was 59.

Frederick W. Curtin Jr.

Frederick W. Curtin Jr., a resident of Wilton for 35 years, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 72.

Mompelier Joseph

Mompelier Joseph, a Stamford resident for 20 years, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. He was 83.

Anita Ventrella Lapolla

Gladys N.K. Mills, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. She was 68.

Helena Rich

Helena Rich, a longtime Stamford resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 at Homestead Healthcare Center in Stamford. She was 90.

Raymond J. Ritch Sr.

Raymond James Ritch Sr. of Trumbull died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2001 at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport. He was 78.

Mabel B. Vine

Mabel B. Vine, a resident of Buzzards Bay, Mass., and former Stamford resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 at Cape Cod Nursing Home in Buzzards Bay. She was 93.
