Lorenzo P. Ursone
BALTIMORE — Lorenzo P. Ursone, formerly of Southington, Conn., Newport, N.Y., and Winchester, Tenn., died Nov. 26, 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Clementine N. Ursone (DelBuono); one son, Harry A. Ursone of Newport, N.Y.; one daughter, Carol J. Fasulo of Catonsville, Md.; five grandchildren, Lynda Whitt, Charles Ursone, Cheryl Jones, Albert Fasulo and Tinamaria Peck; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Newport, N.Y., at the convenience of the family.
Zygmund A. Gonglewski
NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. — Zygmund Anthony John Gonglewski, 70, loving husband and father, died peacefully in his sleep of a heart attack on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998, while visiting Middletown, Conn.
Born in May 1928, in Meriden, to Zygmont Casimir Gonglewski and Josephine Julia Sokolowski, he attended St. Stanislaw Parochial School through the eighth grade, and graduated from Meriden High School in 1946. His family was active in the Polish Falcons of America. Zygmund played in the Falcon Drum Corps, where he was known for his excellence as a drummer, winning the Dan English State Championship trophy two years in a row. He was also a gymnast, taking second place in the state competitions. Zygmund was an apprentice during high school at Czapiga's Butcher shop. He loved the area around Meriden, enjoying Black Pond, his Uncle Carl's cabin at Lack Beseck and the Connecticut River.
After winning the first Dan Maloney scholarship, Zygmund attended Holy Cross College in Worcester, Mass. He went on to receive his M.A. in English literature at the University of Chicago in 1951. In Chicago, he met and married philosophy graduate student, Blanche MacFadyen, of Kearny, N.J. Following graduate school, Zygmund started a long career in personnel management; he staffed and operated several large manufacturing plants: Ford, Crane, Hotpoint, and Olivetti. His specialty was in worker-management relations, and his long career was marked both by success in opening new plants in economically disadvantaged regions. His career took him from Chicago to Kentucky and Pennsylvania , where in 1970 he settled near Harrisburg and went into business as a personnel consultant. He retired in 1993 to pursue his interests in fishing, Jeffersonian studies, volunteer work for Meals on Wheels, and serving as the local Democratic Party precinct captain. He also enjoyed frequent trips to Poland, Europe, and across the U.S. to visit his children.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche of New Cumberland, Pa.; his sister, Sister Jeanette Gonglewski, SSJ,TOSF of Middletown, Conn.; six children; and six grandchildren.
"Brother Zyg" was an active member in Harrisburg First Church of the Brethren, serving as deacon and board member. Memorial services will be held there at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 9, 1999. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church at 219 Hummel St., Harrisburg, Pa. 17104. The Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Middletown, is in charge of arrangements.
Clayton E. Moreau
MERIDEN — Clayton E. Moreau, 72, husband of Leota V. Parks Moreau, of 76 Butler St., died Friday evening at the Westfield Care and Rehab Center, after a brief illness.
He was born in Old Town, Maine, Oct. 16, 1926, a son of the late Jules and Hazel Field Moreau. He was a resident of Meriden for over 35 years. He retired from the World Tableware Co. in 1988, after many years of employment. He was a member of the South Meriden Trinity United Methodist Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two stepdaughters, Nancy Tracy and Gayen Sullivan, both of Meriden; nine stepgrandchildren; ;seven stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Moreau of Maine; and Leon Moreau of Bristol, Conn.; three sisters, Phyllis Carr and Mildred Dumont, both of Maine, and Vivian Melanson, also of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Linda Farley; a great-granddaughter, AmberMichelle Tracy; a sister, Sharon Clarke; and a brother, Robert Moreau.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with his family Sunday in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 West Main St., from 3 to 7 p.m. His graveside funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Mr. Richard Haverly, on Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Francis J. Ritz
MERIDEN — Francis J. Ritz, 83, of 61 Summer St., husband of the late Beatrice (Lamphere) Ritz, died Friday afternoon, Nov. 27, 1998, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford after a brief illness.
Born in Wallingford on July 9, 1915, he was the son of the late Aleck and Josephine (Mushinsky) Ritz, and had lived in Meriden for most of his life. Mr. Ritz attended local school and was employed by International Silver Co. for over 30 years.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Lucien Orsini of Venice, Fla., and Gail and Anthony Sikorski of Meriden; seven grandchildren, William Cugno, Annette Mason, Larry Cugno, Sandra Shortsleeve, Cheryl Noris, Anthony Sikorski Jr., and Jay Sikorski; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, William Ritz of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Ritz was predeceased by two grandchildren, Cheryl Sikorski and Deborah Gendron, and by many sisters and brothers.
The funeral will be held on Monday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., with Rev. Robert Roy of St. Joseph Church, officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service.

John F. Byrnes
MERIDEN — John F. "Jack" Byrnes, 62, beloved husband of Mary (Minnigal) Callahan Byrnes, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at MidState Medical Center.
He was born in New York City, son of the late Francis J. and Alice (Christensen) Byrnes and had lived in Meriden for the last 18 years. Jack was a career Army veteran of both the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War, where he served with the 82nd Airborne Division. During his 20 year career he rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He later served as a head chef in a New York restaurant and more recently served as head chef at the University of Hartford for several years. Not to be idle in retirement, he worked part time for the Meriden Gift House.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Ann Marie Ladue, Joan Byrnes and Barbara Dean, all of Virginia Beach, Va., Theresa McCurdy of Colorado, and Timothy Byrnes of Florida; and their mother, Mary Ann Kenton of Florida; his stepdaughters, Paulette Evans of West Hartford, Georgette Murning of Middletown, Mariann Jones of Tariffville and Linda Johnston of Vermont; a brother, Eugene Byrnes of New Jersey; a sister, Joan Curcurato of Meriden; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 10 step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield. Burial with full military honors will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, Tuesday, 5 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Anna Landino
SOUTHINGTON — Anna Landino, 95, formerly of 396 Meriden Ave., died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, at Southington Care Center. She was the widow of Adolph Landino.
Born in Southington on Aug. 17, 1903, the daughter of the late Antonio and Angelina Palladino. Mrs. Landino was a dietitian for Bradley Memorial Hospital from 1940 to 1979. She was also active in the Auxiliary at Bradley. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Anthony Tacinelli of Southington; two sisters, Josephine Morin of Bristol and Margaret Royce of Plainville; a daughter-in-law, Marie Landino of Florida; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Nicholas Landino, four brothers and three sisters.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to St. Thomas Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Dec. 1, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Carl P. Lund
MERIDEN — Carl Peter Lund, 68, of 41 Green Road, died Sunday, Nov. 29, at the MidState Medical Center.
He was born in Hartford, July 31, 1930, a son of Ingaborg Malmquist Lund and the late Tage Knute Lund. He had belonged to the Augustana Lutheran Church. He had worked at the Demander Bookbindery at Yale and later at the Thomson Candy Co. He had been active with the Boys Club.
Besides his mother he is survived by a niece, Jonna Mioduszewski of Lisbon; and two nephews, Richard Jason Lund Sr. of Burlington and John M. Lund of Andover. He was predeceased by a brother, John Lars Lund.
The burial will be at the convenience of the family. The Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden.
Alice B. Sireno
MERIDEN — Alice Beatrice Sireno, 90, formerly of 50 Tremont St., died Sunday, Nov. 29, at the Masonic Geriatric Home in Wallingford. She was the wife of Rocco David Sireno.
She was born in Meriden, March 29, 1908, a daughter of the late Thomas and Alice Sheldon Henderson.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Robert Sireno of Cheshire and Peter D. Sireno of Wallingford; and five grandchildren, Debra Doll of Wallingford, David Sireno of Southington, Scott Sireno of Southington, David Sireno of Meriden and Donna Sireno of Meriden.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel at the Masonic Geriatric Home in Wallingford. The Rev. Steven Fales will officiate. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Masonic Home Chapel from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
