Benard Hoffman
WASHINGTON — Benard Hoffman of Washington , D.C., died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998.
Born June 1, 1949, he was a son of the late Anne and Fred Hoffman. He was the owner of a jewelry business, King Solomon's Mines, in Washington .
He is survived by his wife, Merrill Hoffman; his son, Ia; a brother, Gerald Hoffman of Edmond, Okla.; and two sisters, Roberta DeLeone of Syracuse, N.Y., and Diane Hoffman of New Haven.
Helen Kiley
SOUTHINGTON — Helen (Grady) Kiley, 76, of 45 Village Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at Abbott Terrace. She was the wife of the late Donald H. Kiley.
Born Aug. 19, 1922, in Troy, N.Y., the daughter of the late Patrick and Katherine (Scully) Grady, she was a former resident of Waterbury, moving to Southington in 1985. Prior to her retirement in 1986, she was employed by the state of Connecticut Judicial Division for 20 years. Mrs. Kiley was educated in Waterbury schools and graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.
She is survived by a son, Donald G. Kiley of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Joan Kiley of Waterbury and Linda Barone of Plymouth; a brother, John Grady of Waterbury; three sisters, Mary Thompson of Bethlehem, Dorothy Brennan of Woodbury and Katherine Robillard of Waterbury; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Patricia Colby of Little River, S.C.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, to St. Thomas Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Donations may be made in her memory to the VNA Healthcare Hospice, 50 Brookside Road, Waterbury, CT 06708.
William J. Marshall
SOUTHINGTON — William John Marshall, 83, of Southington, formerly of Meriden, husband of the late Mary (Zawacki) Marshall, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at his home.
Born April 20, 1915, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Mary (Kogut) Marshall. He lived in Southington for more than 20 years, and was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford. Mr. Marshall was employed by Allegheny Ludlum Steel Co. in Wallingford, retiring 18 years ago. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army and was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church in Meriden.
Mr. Marshall is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William James and Kathleen Marshall, with whom he made his home; a granddaughter, Jena Marshall of Southington; a sister, Alice Marshall Baigert of Meriden; and a brother, Walter Marshall of Estero, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Marshall Andreini.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, from the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Francis T. Varano
MERIDEN — Francis T. Varano, 54, of 109 Quarry Lane, husband of SherryAnn (Dontigney) Varano, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at MidState Medical Center after a long illness.
Born Dec. 1, 1943, in New Britain, he was the son of the late Ralph and Josephine (Sperlazza) Varano and had lived in Meriden for most of his life. He attended grammar school in Meriden and was a graduate of Mount St. Charles Academy in Rhode Island and Central Connecticut State University. Mr. Varano was employed by the State of Connecticut for 26 years and was also employed by Trinity College. He was a veteran of the Vietnam era, having served with the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Germany. Francis was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, a member of the DAV, Meriden/Wallingford Chapter No. 6, and of the American Legion Post No. 45.
Besides his wife, SherryAnn, he is survived by a daughter, Rachel Ann Latham of Meriden; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark Allen and Leighann Latham, Michael Matthew Latham and Joseph Leon Varano, all of Meriden; a sister, Constance Varano of Meriden; a brother, Martin J. Varano and his wife, Helene, of Meriden. He is also survived by Brian and Robert; and several other nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, from the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Brian P. Robison
OZARK, ALA. — Brian Paul Robison, 37, of Route 2, Ozark, Ala., died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at Edge Regional Medical Center in Troy, Ala., as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Robison was born April 17, 1961, in Waterbury, and lived the early years of his life in Meriden. He resided in Enterprise, Ala., prior to moving to Ozark in 1997. He was employed with Commercial Erectors as a welder and carpenter. He was a member of the Dixie Ranger Motorcycle Club. Mr. Robison was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
Mr. Robison is survived by his daughter, Samantha Ann Robison of Northford; his father, Anthony Albanese of Enterprise, Ala.; his mother and dad, Bertha and Paul Robison of Land-O-Lakes, Fla.; a sister, Susan Moore of Meriden; two brothers, Thomas Albanese and Joseph Robison, both of Meriden; a step-sister, Brenda Hillman of Newington; two step-brothers, Paul Phillips and Donald Phillips, both of Meriden. He is also survived by a very special friend and her daughter, Jeanette Cronk and Ayla Mowry, both of Ozark; and by two nieces and a nephew.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at the funeral home. John W. Dunn
CHESHIRE — John W. Dunn, 75, of 31 Old Towne Road, Cheshire, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. He was the husband of Patricia Fodor Dunn.
Jack was born on April 21, 1923, in New Haven, and lived most of his life in the Wallingford-Cheshire area. Jack was a fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. During this time, he experienced 49 missions in 230 combat hours. He was credited for destroying two enemy aircraft on the ground and retired from the Air National Guard with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Until recently, he enjoyed flying his own aircraft around the country for business and pleasure. Jack was employed for 30 years by International Silver Co. Fifteen years ago, he started his own business, Design Specialities Inc. He was a member and deacon of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford. He was a member of the Wallingford Rotary Club, Eighth Air Force Association and 357th Fighter Group Association.
Besides his wife, Jack is survived by his sister, Beverly Simpson of Southington; his two daughters, Suzanne Brockner of Palatine, Ill., and Debora Bolla of Vernon Hills, Ill.; and five step-children, Noreen Julian of Woodbridge, Patricia Whitlock of Orange, Leonard J. Cocco of Sonoma, Calif., Michael Cocco of Woodbridge and Susan Bryan of Gainsville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, George Dunn.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at the First Congregational Church of Wallingford with the Rev. Dean Warburton officiating. Burial with military honors will be at In Memoriam Cemetery. It is suggested that gifts in his memory be sent to the First Congregational Church, 23 S. Main St., Wallingford, CT 06492. Louis Ferraro Jr.
MERIDEN — Louis Ferraro Jr., 61, of Village View Terrace, South Meriden, formerly of Yalesville, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at MidState Medical Center, Meriden. He was the beloved husband of Patty Morgillo Ferraro.
Lou was born July 31, 1937, in New Haven, a son of Raffaela Perrotti Ferraro of Hollywood, Fla., and the late Louis Ferraro Sr., and had resided in Yalesville for many years until moving to South Meriden in 1996. He had been proprietor of the Yalesville Package Store for many years until 1987, and had made many great friends there. He was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church in South Meriden, and had been a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville while living there.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by three daughters, Deborah L. Barranti of San Francisco, Calif., Maryann Mitchell of Wichita, Kan., and Laura Baldetti of Hamden; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tech Sgt. John C. and Marie DeGennaro of San Antonio, Texas , Michael A. and Elizabeth DeGennaro of Yalesville, and Louis Ferraro III and Christine Ferraro of Wallingford; and was the very proud grandfather of 16 grandchildren, Michael, Shaun, Joseph, Steven, Stacy, Ryan, Drew, Amanda, Robert, Matthew, Kristin, Teresa, Kyle, Michael, Jaret and Kayli. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Gene Murano of Hollywood, Fla.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John A. and Lorett Ferraro of East Haven, and Richard S. and Carol Ferraro of Hollywood, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Edna Hansen Morgillo of New Haven; and several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Vincent J. Ferraro and Nicholas G. Ferraro.
His family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, from the Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery.
Frederick Schipke
WALLINGFORD — Frederick Schipke, 85, of 58 E. Main St., died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at the MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of Ruth Osborne Schipke.
He was born Feb. 23, 1913, in Wallingford, a son of the late August L. and Minna Doehr Schipke. A lifelong resident of Wallingford, he was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Wallingford Rod and Gun Club. Until his retirement, he was a physical education teacher, director of athletics and basketball coach in the Wallingford public school system, and was coach of the 1948 and 1953 State Basketball Champions. He was a member of the State Coaches Association, was inducted into the Hall of Fame of State Coaches Association on Dec. 13, 1986. He also was active with the Boy Scouts of America.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James F. Schipke of Wilmington, VT.; and a daughter, Jean Ruth Schipke of Richmond, Va.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 235 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford, with the Rev. Robert Hass officiating. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St.

Rose Chasse
MERIDEN — Rose Chasse, 93, of 65 Westfield Road, wife of the late Henry L. Chasse, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at Westfield Care and Rehab Center in Meriden after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 26, 1905, in St. Agathe, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Donat and Beatrice (Marquis) Albert. She had lived in Fort Kent, Maine, before moving to the Meriden area in 1980. Mrs. Chasse was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church in Meriden and a member of the St. Anne Society in Maine.
Mrs. Chasse is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Cecile and Roland St. Peter of Southington, Barbara and Brian Theriault of Bristol, and Mary and Richard Stevens of Meriden; four sons and daughters-in-law, Raoul and Rajeanne Chasse of West Haven, Maurice and Joan Chasse of Enfield, Albert and Rinette of East Hartford, and Harold and Karen Chasse of Vernon; 27 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Irene, and her husband Lawrence, Ayotte of St. Agathe, Maine, and Lucille Clavette of Lewiston, Maine; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four sisters, Mathilda, Mellissa, Marie and Cecile; two brothers, Romeo and Antoine; one granddaughter, Debbie; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, from the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Laurent Church, Meriden. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery, Meriden. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at the funeral home.
Ernest J. Marcantonio
MIDDLETOWN — Ernest J. Marcantonio, 68, husband of Santina (Gugliemino) Marcantonio of 166 Washington St., died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at the Harbor Hill Care Center.
He was born May 30, 1930, in Meriden, son of the late Anthony and Carmela Cappello Marcantonio. He was a member of St. Sebastian Church and a life member of the VFW. Mr. Marcantonio was a self-employed independent insurance agent. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sharon Ann Marcantonio of Middletown; a brother, Joseph Marcantonio of Meriden; three sisters, Lena Barillaro of Meriden, Anna Mischonski of Southington, and Mary Soriano of Long Island, N.Y.; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Vincent and Frank Marcantonio; and a sister, Lucy Viti.
Funeral services with military honors will be held at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, from the D'Angelo Funeral Home, 22 S. Main St., Middletown, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. at St. Sebastian Church. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield. Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at the funeral home.
