Richard F. "Dick" Hoxie Sr.
MERIDEN — Richard F. "Dick" Hoxie Sr., 82, of 11 Steuben St., loving and devoted husband of Helga (Buttner) Hoxie, died on Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden after a brief illness.
Born in Winsted on July 28, 1916, he was the son of the late William and Myrtle (Johnson) Hoxie. He lived in Meriden for 50 years and had attended Bacon Academy. Mr. Hoxie was employed by Westvaco for many years, retiring in 1981.
Besides his beloved wife, Helga, he is survived by two sons, Rick Hoxie Jr. of Hartford and Herb Johnson of California; two daughters, Iris Long and Jenny Benjamin, both of Meriden; 12 grandchildren; and by his special friends, Ken and Hazel Bryans, and special sister-in-law, Lore Craven.
The funeral and burial at Winsted Cemetery will be private. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Hoxie’s name can be made to The Meriden Center Genesis Elderly Care, 845 Paddock Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.

Michael R. Vaughn
MERIDEN — Michael R. Vaughn, 42, of Baker Avenue, South Meriden, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at MidState Medical Center, Meriden.
Mr. Vaughn was born in Meriden, Sept. 26, 1956, a son of Jeanette Mize Vaughn, with whom he resided in South Meriden, and the late Robert T. Vaughn. He had been a supervisor for the former Big Buys Stores for 19 years until his retirement because of illness several years ago.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his brother, David L. Vaughn of Southington; his three nephews, Matthew, Michael, and Jake Vaughn; and his niece, Lisa Vaughn.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at 2 p.m. at The Little-Ward Funeral Home, 115 State St., Commerce, Georgia. Gifts in his memory may be sent to The American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450. Local arrangements are under the direction of The Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville.

Pauline G. Cetnarski
MERIDEN -- Pauline (Pinky) G. Cetnarski, 77, of 175 Gracey Ave., widow of Paul Cetnarski, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 15, 1921, in Bristol, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Anna Gebrian.
She is survived by daughters, Paulette Cetnarski and Mary Ann O'Byrne and son-in-law, Donald O'Byrne of Meriden; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathleen Cetnarski of Sandusky, Ohio; grandsons, Jonathan Cetnarski of Rye, N.Y., and Eric Cetnarski of New York; a granddaughter, Shannon O'Byrne; six sisters, Mary Piotrowski, Sophie Farago, Ann Rybczyk of Forestville, Katherine Klimkoski of Terryville, Julie Gebrian of Sandusky, Ohio, and Sister Susanne Gebrian MHSH of Norwich; two brothers, Michael Gebrian and sister-in-law, Louise Gebrian, of Forestville; John Gebrian of Terryville; sisters-in-law, Veronica Laskowski of Meriden and Louise Cash of Norfolk, Va.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Eva Van Voorhis, Veronica Gebrian and Helen Bickford.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450, or to the American Lung Association of Connecticut, Inc., 364 Whitney Ave., New Haven, CT 06511.

Joseph T. Galiette
SOUTHINGTON -- Joseph T. Galiette, 80, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at his residence in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was the husband of Margaret (Marco) Galiette.
Born Nov. 27, 1918, in Southington, the son of the late John and Immaculata (Celella) Galiette. He resided in Southington for 59 years prior to moving to Florida. He graduated from Lewis High School. Mr. Galiette owned and operated the former Highway Restaurant in Southington for many years prior to his retirement. He was an Air Force veteran, serving with the 118th Fighter Squadron (CNG) in China, Burma and India (CBI) 14th Air Force. He was a lifetime member of the Kiltonic Post #72 and Disabled American Veterans #103 in Dunedin, Fla. He was a member of St. Michael's Church in Clearwater, Fla.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joseph and Peter Galiette, both of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; six sisters, Julia Fantozzi, Victoria Geloso, Millie Longo, Florence LeCuyer of Southington, Delores Galiette of Pompano Beach, Fla., Alvera Gallucci of Branford; a brother, Dominic Galiette of Naugatuck; a granddaughter, Jesse Galiette; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to St. Thomas Church at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of Suncoast, 509 S. Missouri Ave., Clearwater, FL 33756.

Simone Gregoire
MERIDEN -- Simone (Martin) Gregoire, 72, of 166 Pratt St., died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at the MidState Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born June 14, 1926, in Green River, New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Pierre and Ellen Theriault Racine. She had resided in Meriden for the past 31 years. Mrs. Gregoire was educated in Canada and was last employed at Talcott Machine Products. She was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Rinette Martin of Meriden,; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Rodrique and Colette Martin of Meriden, Laurier and Terese Martin of Edmundston New Brunswick, Reno Martin of Southington and Gilles and Rose Martin of Meriden; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanette and Claudette Plourde, both of Quebec; five brothers, Edward Racine of Meriden, Lawrence Racine of St. Basile, New Brunswick, Aldeo Racine of St. Basile, New Brunswick, Real Racine of Edmundston, New Brunswick, and Guildo Racine of St. Jacques, New Brunswick. Mrs. Gregoire was predeceased by her first husband Albeo Martin.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 9 a.m. in St. Laurent Church. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery, South Meriden. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Bernice M. Knapp
HOBE SOUND, Fla. — Bernice M. Knapp, formerly of Guilford, wife of the late Arthur G. Knapp, died Dec. 18, 1998.
She is survived by one son, Arthur G. Knapp of Wallingford; two daughters, Pamela D. Daly of Long Island, N.Y., and Colleen A. Aceto, of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; three sisters, Eugene Massy of San Antonio, Texas , Genevieve Vokes of El Paso, Texas , and Mavourneen Gibson of Los Angeles, Calif; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by a brother, Gerald W. Massy III.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Wallingford. Burial will be at Center Cemetery, Branford. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Episcopal School, 400 Seabrook Road, Tequesta, FL 33469. Friends may call Tuesday, Dec. 22, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford, CT.

Arthur R. Michaud
SOUTHINGTON — Arthur R. Michaud, 69, of 60 Union St., in the Plantsville section of Southington, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Southington Care Center.
Born in Grand Isle, Maine, May 18, 1929, son of Martha (Levesque) Michaud and the late Joseph Michaud, he had been a Southington resident for the last 48 years and was a communicant of St. Aloysius Church. Arthur retired from Fansteel in 1986 and served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.
Besides his mother, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Raymond Michaud of Plantsville and Roger and Doris Michaud of Cheshire; two brothers, Gilbert Michaud of Brewer, Maine, and Joseph Michaud of Salem, N.H.; two sisters, Anita Levesque of Plantsville and Marie Morin of Southington; and one grandson, Jesse Michaud of Cheshire. He was predeceased by a sister, Terry (Morin) Lasito.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at 11:30 a.m. at the Chapel in the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Lewiston, Maine. A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church. Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville, has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

Hope M. Ritchie
SOUTHINGTON — Hope M. Ritchie, 85, of 45 Meriden Ave., wife of the late Raymond Ritchie, left this life on Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, surrounded by her loving family at the Southington Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Born in Hodgdon, Maine, on Sept. 22, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Ora and Margerie (Stockford) Alward. Mrs. Ritchie was educated in Hodgdon, Maine, and was a resident of Meriden for 40 years before moving to Southington seven years ago. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Meriden.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Gene Briggs of Houlton, Maine, and Cheryl and John Burkhardt of Meriden; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Beth Ritchie of Southington; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ritchie was predeceased by a son, Roger Ritchie, and by 12 sisters and brothers.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at 2 p.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 2:30 p.m. in the First Assembly of God Church, 601 Paddock Ave., Meriden, with the Rev. Thomas A. Fegler officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery, Houlton, Maine.

Anthony S. Avallone
NEW HAVEN — Anthony S. Avallone, of 430 Lighthouse Road, husband of Virginia Russo Avallone, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998. He was the father of Virginia Proto, Phyllis Brosnan, Vincent and Anthony V. Avallone; brother of Carmel Carrano, Nicholas Avallone, and the late Mary, Charles (Pat) and Nicholas Avallone. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held from the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc., 11 Wooster Place, Monday at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Bernadette's Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Family and friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Family Retreat House, 303 Tunxis Road, West Hartford, CT 06107.

Joseph D. Cascio
ISLAND POND, Vt. — Joseph (Joey) D. Cascio, 31, formerly of 70 Summit St., South Meriden, died Dec. 10, 1998.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Ralph Lord Roy of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Friends and family may call from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will be private.

William F. Deegan Jr.
MERIDEN — William F. Deegan Jr., 67, of 28 Pearl St., passed away peacefully, Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, with his loving family beside him after a long illness. He was the husband of Julia (Swabski) Deegan, the love of his life.
He was born in Middletown on May 23, 1931, and was the son of the late William F. Deegan Sr. and Elizabeth (Pelchot) Deegan. He attended Middletown schools and had lived in Meriden since 1949. Mr. Deegan was employed by Continental Baking Co. for many years until the onset of his illness. Bill served in the U.S. Navy abroad the aircraft carrier, USS Cabot during the Korean War, and was a member of the National Guard, being honorably discharged from both. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, a member of the Eagles Club and of the North Italian Club. He enjoyed golf and watching his grandson, Nathan Lee, become a talented golfer. Bill also loved bass fishing with his son, Michael, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a very loving and caring person in so many ways.
Besides his wife, Julia, he is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Buffy and David Gokey of Middlefield, Susan Scott, and her husband, Lawrence Morris of Meriden, and Cassie Deegan, and her partner, Paula Robbins of Meriden; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Paula Deegan of Meriden; two grandchildren, Nathan Lee Scott and Jason Michael Gokey; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Clarence Fillmore of Rockfall; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Angie Deegan of Middletown; his father-in-law, John Swabski of Meriden. He is also survived by a very special brother-in-law and his wife, John and Catherine Grasse of Wallingford; by several nieces and nephews, and by many friends who will miss him dearly.
The funeral service will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial with military honors will be in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Charles J. Keegan
FARMINGTON — Charles J. Keegan, 78, of Devonwood Drive, "The Gables," Farmington, husband of the late Lucille (Morris) Keegan, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at the John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington.
Born Aug. 5, 1920, in Meriden, son of the late Charles F. and Valerie (Beaudoin) Keegan, he was a graduate of Yale University, class of 1942. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Keegan was the area chief for the state of Connecticut Tax Department in Bridgeport for 30 years.
He is survived by his son, Kevin C. Keegan of Cromwell; three grandchildren, Matthew Keegan and Kimberly Keegan, both of Cromwell, and Brendan Rogers of Hebron. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Valerie Keegan-Rogers.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, at the Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rte. 4, Unionville. Funeral procession will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, from the funeral home, followed by the funeral liturgy at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Patrick in Farmington. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Thomas Cemetery, Fairfield.
