Anita Albamonti
Anita Roberts Albamonti, 86, of Stonington, died on Tuesday 24 December 2002 at The Westerly Hospital, where she has been hospitalized for a short time.
Born in Lowell MA on 2 August 1916, she was the daughter of Danial and Elizabeth O'Hara Roberts. On 4 July 1942 she married Roland J Albamonti and together they moved to the Stonington area.
In 1951 she and her husband started and operated for many year the famous Roland's Market, a greengrocer located on Water Street in Stonington Borough. She and her husband were both actively involved in running the market. Mr Albamonti died on 3 February 1987.
Mrs Albamonti is survived by two sons, Ronald and James Albamonti, both of Stonington; a sister, Lillian Salisbury, of Ashaway RI; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Danny, Frank and Ray Roberts; and a sister, Katherine Patnoad.
A service was celebrated at Mystic Funeral Home on Monday 30 December 2002. Burial was in St Mary Cemetery, Stonington.

Mary Ellen Tyrseck
Mary Ellen Tryseck, née Wronowski, died on 24 December at her home in Stonington. Born on 8 November 1942, she was the daughter of Anna Wronowski, née Ponatishen, of Montville, and John Wronowski. She attended local schools in Montville.
Mrs Tyrseck worked in the family businesses, which include Cross Sound Ferry, Nelseco Interstate Navigation and Thames Shipyard, all in New London. A great music-lover, Mrs Tyrseck was a member of the Goodspeed Opera House and she and her husband, Thomas, attended between 40 and 50 operas and musicals a year.
Mrs Tyrseck is survived by her mother, her husband, her son Derek S Tyrseck of New London, a brother John Peter Wronowski of Oakdale, two sisters Susan Linda and Carol Jean Wronowski, both of Montville, and her brother-in-law Louis Tyrseck of Oakdale. She was predeceased by a son Kristian E Tyrseck in 1998; a sister Patricia Hewitt; and a brother Paul Wronowski.
A funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday 28 December 2002 at St Mary Church in Stonington.
Palmira DaSilva
Palmira DaSilva, 74, of Stonington, died Saturday 7 December 2002. Born in Murtosa, Portugal on 27 January 1928, she was the daughter of Pantaleho and Amaria Barbosa Oliveira.
On 17 February 1952 she married Joao Carlos Silva in Murtosa. He died in October 1998.
Mrs DaSilva came to the United States in 1967 and worked as a braider with the Kellems Co. in Stonington, from which she retired in 1990. She was a communicant of St Mary Church in Stonington Borough.
Mrs DaSilva is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Joaquim and Temple DaSilva of Westerly; two granddaughters Sara and Kathryn DaSilva; three sisters Maria Cunha, Caroline Farinhas and Albertina DaSilva, all of Newark NJ; four brothers Jose Oliveira of Newark NJ; Joao Oliveira of Palm Coast FL; and Joaquim Oliveira of Torreira, Portugal.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St Mary Church, Stonington Borough, on Tuesday 10 December 2002.

Dorothy Cravinho
Dorothy Bergel Cravinho, 93, of Stonington, died on Thursday 5 December 2002 at the Westerly Hospital in Westerly RI. Born in Stonington on 9 February 1909, Mrs Cravinho was the daughter of Paul and Evelyn née Pereira Bergel. In June 1937 she married Antone J Cravinho, who died in July 1985.
Mrs Cravinho graduated from the Borough School in 1927 and continued her education at the Willimantic Normal School, from which she graduated in 1929. She received her BS from Eastern Connecticut Teachers College in 1955.
Mrs Cravinho's career as a teacher began and ended in Stonington schools. She closed out two rural schools, the Taugwonk in 1930, and the Road District in 1932, before being transferred to her alma mater the Borough School later that year.
Until her retirement in 1969, Mrs Cravinho was active in a number of organizations, as a charter member of the Stonington Parents Teachers Association, a den mother for the Cub Scouts, Treasurer and Tax Assessor of the Stonington Fire District and a board member of the Stonington Visiting Nurses Association.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony J Cravinho of Manchester CT and Stonington Judge of Probate Paul E Cravinho; six grandchildren Kathleen M Cravinho of Stamford; Craig A Cravinho of Old Lyme; Paul E Cravinho Jr of New York City; Amy Cravinho Benjamin of Cheshire CT; Stephen J Cravinho of Mystic; and John B Cravinho of Bellows Falls VT; and six great-grandchildren, Abigail K Cravinho, Nicholas P Benjamin, Elizabeth A Cravinho, Catherine T Cravinho, Allyson R Souza and Jessica M Souza. She was predeceased by a brother, Paul F Bergel.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St Mary Church, Stonington Borough, on Saturday 7 December 2002.
Jose Pinto
Jose Pinto, 75, of Stonington Borough, died on Sunday 1 December 2002 at his home.
Born on 28 May 1927 in Maderia, Portugal, he was the son of Francisco and Virginia Pinto. In December 1951 he married Conceicao Camacho in Portugal. She survives her husband.
He and his wife emigrated to the United States in 1975 and Mr Pinto worked in the maintenance department of the American Velvet Company until his retirement in 1989.
Mr Pinto was a communicant of St Mary Church, Stonington Borough, and a member of the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society, also in the Borough.
In addition to his wife, Mr Pinto is survived by two daughters, Marie Louisa Trujillo of Stonington and Maria Isabel Cascais of Pawcatuck; two sons, Jose M Pinto and Jorge R Pinto of Pawcatuck; two sisters, Maria Camacho and Virginia Rodigues of Maderia, Portugal; five brothers, Carlos Pinto and Jorge Pinto of London, England, Antonio Pinto of Germany, and Arnaldo Pinto of Canada; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at St Mary Church on Thursday 5 December 2002, followed by burial in Stonington Cemetery.
C Stuart Perkins
Charles Stuart Perkins, Jr, 76, formerly of Stonington CT and New York City, died of cancer on Friday 12 September 2003 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta GA.
Born on 15 September 1926 in Newark, New York, Mr Perkins spent his childhood in Philadelphia, where he attended William Penn Charter School and then Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, after serving in the US Navy in World War II. He later moved to New York City where he took a position as the Vice President of Sales for the Printing Corporation of America. He was a member of the Racquet and Tennis Club of New York and was an avid Court Tennis player.
In 1964 he and his family moved to Stonington, where he started the 'Fishing School', a small, light-tackle charter boat. He was also the Finance Manager for the Davis Standard Division in Stonington. He was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church and the Wadawanuck Club.
Moving to Boca Raton in 1979, Mr Perkins met and in 1985 married his wife Nancy. They latter relocated to Atlanta, where he was a financial business consultant.
Mr Perkins is survived by his wife, Nancy Perkins, of Marietta and his three children, Anne Cook of Chicago, Breck Perkins of New York and Stonington, Sara Hewitt of Shillington, England and his step-daughters Susanne Muckerman and Dawn LaFalce.
A memorial service for Mr Perkins will be held in early November at the Calvary Church in Stonington CT.

John Zimmerman
John Otto Zimmerman, 94, of Farmholme Road, Stonington, died on Wednesday 27 August 2003 at his home.
Born in New York City in 1909, he was the son of Dr Gustavus and Agnes Ihlefeld Zimmerman. He graduated from Trinity School in New York in 1928 and from Dartmouth College in 1932. He got a degree from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth in 1933.
Mr Zimmerman went to work for the General Motors Financial Staff in 1934 in New York and spent his entire business career with the company, apart from war service in the US Navy in Washington . He retired as president and chief executive on GMAC in 1970.
Mr Zimmerman moved to Stonington in 1968 and quickly became an active volunteer and board member of numerous local charitable and service organizations, including the Stonington Community Center and its annual Antiques Show, and the Mystic Seaport, where he established the "Gung Ho Squad" of shipyard volunteers.
Mr Zimmerman is survived by his wife, Barbara; a son, Peter Zimmerman; a daughter, Anne Rodrigues; and a twin brother, Gus Zimmerman. He was predeceased by his first wife of 62 years, Alice Parke Zimmerman.
A memorial service was held at Calvary Church, Stonington Borough, on Saturday 30 August 2003 at 11 am.

Linda McDonough
Linda (Arnold) McDonough, 62, of Lamberts Lane, Stonington, died on Wednesday 16 July 2003 at the Westerly Hospital.
Born in Westerly on 5 August 1940, she was the daughter of Eldred and Alice Main Arnold. Attending grammar school in Ashaway, she graduated in 1958 from Stonington High School. She later worked in the Town of Stonington Tax Office and at the Mystic Aquarium. She was also the Democratic Registrar of Voters for the town of Stonington.
On 23 July 1960 she married William B McDonough, who survives her.
Mrs McDonough was a communicant of St Mary Church in Stonington Borough and a member of the church choir. She had also been a member of the Mystic Junior Women's Club and the Stonington Town Democratic Committee. An avid bowler and women's basketball fan, she had also been active with the Cub Scouts.
In addition to her husband she is survived by three sons, William B McDonough Jr of Groton; Scott McDonough of Uncasville; and Mark McDonough of Oslo, Norway; two brothers, Robert Arnold of Westerly; and Peter Arnold of Ledyard; a sister, Janet Morgan of Florida; and a grandson, Christian McDonough. She was predeceased by a brother, Dickie Arnold.
A burial mass was celebrated at St Mary Church, Stonington, on Monday 21 July. Burial took place in Stonington Cemetery.
