Daniel Morse
Daniel Cotton Morse, 59, of Stonington, died Monday 18 November 2002 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, reportedly of a brain tumor.
Born in New York City on 26 November 1942, he was the son of Charles R. and Jessie I. Cotton Morse. His family moved to Stonington in 1943 and he remained a lifelong resident of the area. A graduate of Columbia University, Mr Morse married Regan Babb in Washington DC on 16 December 1969.
Active in the Stonington community, Mr Morse was a member of the Stonington Volunteer Fire Department, the Stonington Ambulance Corps and the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society. He was a member of the Republican Town Committee, had served as a member, secretary and chairman of the Stonington Board of Finance and was a founding member of the Cordless Electric Drill Team, which recently debuted its skills at the Farewell parade for Stonington Lumber Company.
Mr Morse's love of the theater was well known through his work as Founder and Producer of the American Musical Theatre, which was the first primary tenant of the Garde Arts Center in downtown New London in 1986. He became the Technical Director and Manager of the Arts Center's Restoration Project. He was active with the Arts Center to this day. Mr Morse was currently serving as the president of The Stonington Players. He was also an avid gardener, an excellent cook and was never without a book.
In addition to his wife, Mr Morse is survived by a son, Samuel B Morse of Brooklyn, NY; a daughter, Sage D Williams of Wakefield, RI; and many nieces and nephews.

James Allyn
James Joseph Allyn, 43, of Mystic, died Thursday 31 October 2002. Born in New London on 8 April 1959, he was the son of Walter L and Ida May Ravenelle Allyn. A lifelong resident of Stonington, he attended local schools, graduating from Stonington High School in1977.
Following graduation he worked at General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, where he finished his apprenticeship in the sheetmetal trades. In 1983 he began his career as a commercial fisherman, joining his father and older brother in the business of fishing, and serving as captain aboard the fishing vessels Matthew Melissa, the Prospector and Katie Paul, which was named for his two children. In the early 1990s he was one of the first participants in the Deep Water Monk Fisheries. A few years later he was credited with discovering and bringing in the first commercial catches of shrimp now known as "Stonington Reds". He won a grant to explore the Continental Deep Slope Waters for the National Marine Fishery Services. He was a member of the Southern New England Fishermen and Lobstermen's Association.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, Paul James and Katie Anne Allyn, of Westerly; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Donna Allyn of Pawcatuck; a niece, Loren Jo Allyn; and nephew, D Irv Allyn also of Pawcatuck.
A funeral service was held on Monday 4 November 2002 at the Mystic Funeral Home, Mystic, with burial following in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Mary Carnot
Mary Alice Sivigny Carnot, 72, of Pawcatuck, died on Sunday 20 October 2002 at Westerly Hospital.
Born in Meriden CT on 19 May 1930, she was the daughter of James and Mary Hanchruck Sivigny. She married Alfred Carnot on 18 November 1951 in Wallingford CT, where the couple lived until 1975, when they moved to the Pawcatuck area.
Mrs Carnot was an active member of St Mary Church, Stonington Borough.
In addition to her husband, Mrs Carnot is survived by two daughters, Renee Carnot Lund of Naugatuck and Aimee Carnot Marques of Hebron CT; two sons, Christopher Carnot and Carey Carnot, both of Pawcatuck; two sisters, Clara Issacco of Jacksonville FL and Katherine Ames of Wallingford CT; two brothers, Philip Sivigny of Wallingford and Richard Sivigny of Sommersworth NH; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, James Sivigny.
A funeral mass for Mrs Carnot was celebrated at St Mary Church on Thursday 24 October 2002.

Carleton Campell Hence
Carleton Campell Hence, 60, of Stonington, died of heart failure on Wednesday 16 October 2002 in Stonington.
Mr Hence was born on 7 February 1932 in Flushing, Queens, New York. He graduated from Manilus Military Academy in 1950 and attended Syracuse University. He began a career of more than 50 years when, at the age of 10, he played the role of Jughead's cousin on the radio. At the age of 19, he became a disc-jockey in Syracuse, New York.
Working out of New York for most of his professional career, Mr Hence worked in advertising, radio, and television, later becoming an advisor and speech coach, as well as doing radio and voice-overs. With a deep and adaptable voice, Mr Hence participated in many commercial campaigns, including Colgate, HomePride, Robitussin and Texaco.
His second career as a voice coach arose through his ability to speak in front of large audiences. Mr Hence formed The Corporate Address, a one-on-one executive speech coaching service and he worked with companies in both the US and Europe.
Mr Hence was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the Association of Television and Radio Artists. Living in Stonington Borough in his later years, he became a vital contributing member of Calvary Church.
He is survived by three children, Kyle Fitz-Randolph Maxson Bentley and Juliellen; his borther Guy Hence; and three grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Calvary Episcopal Church on Friday 25 October 2002.
Louise Wimpfheimer
Louise M Meriwether Wimpfheimer died Tuesday 15 October 2002 in Stonington.
Born on 3 January 1923, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Nellie Gower Meriwether. She married Jacques D Wimpfheimer on 15 September 1948. He died on 28 October 2000.
Prior to her marriage, Louise Wimpfheimer worked as a model and an actor in New York. During her many years in Stonington, she was a dominant force for the Stonington Players stage performances, both as producer and director. Mrs Wimpfheimer was prominent as a decorator and enjoyed exhibiting and sharing her talents as an owner of a Stonington antique shop.
Her many charitable activities included work with the Child and Family Agency, Stonington Free Library and numerous organizations in the area. In the early 1970s, she founded the 145 Club, a social club for friends and residents. She was also involved with many Stonington charities.
Mrs Wimpfheimer is survived by two sons, Donald C Wimpfheimer and his wife, Dana, of Hollywood FL, and James M Wimpfheimer of New York; two grandsons, Christopher C and Sean A Wimpfheimer of Stonington; and a brother, Lawrence Meriwether of Jacksonville FL. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Jacques D Wimpfheimer Jr, who died in 1987.
A graveside committal service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, 29 October 2002 at Stonington Cemetery. There are no visiting hours. The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic is assisting the family.

Henrietta Santos
Henrietta L. Santos, 91, of Pawcatuck, died Saturday morning 5 October 2002 at her home.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, 19 July 1911, she was the daughter of Martin and Amelia Dralle Clemens. They moved to the United States when she was just 5 months old and she remained a lifelong resident of this area of Connecticut. Mrs Santos attended local schools.
She married Surferane “Bunny” Santos in Stonington on 28 November 1932. Mr Santos died on 19 September 1986.
She and her husband owned and operated Bunny's Shoppe, an ice cream and soda shop at the corner of Church and Water Streets in Stonington Borough for many years. Mrs Santos also worked for several years as a cook at the former Borough School and could often be found cooking and serving food at fund-raisers on behalf of the area schools, civic groups and also the Stonington Como. She was president of the PTO for the Stonington school system and was also a Cub Scout leader.
Mrs Santos is survived by her 7 children, including three sons, Surferane (Sonny) Santos of Stonington; Ernest Santos of Weston VT; and Robert Santos of Stonington; and 4 daughters, Audrey Lehron of Tampa FL; Johonor Santos of Ledyard; Teresa Grimes of Stonington; and Henrietta Wilcox also of Stonington; one sister, Amelia Macaioni of Anna Maria Island FL; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Fritz Clemens.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday 9 October 2002 in Stonington Cemetery, 345 North Main Street, Stonington. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Arturo Tiziani
Arturo “Turro” Tiziani, 89, of Pawcatuck, died Wednesday 2 October 2002 at home.
Born in Mystic on 30 June 1913, he was the son of Giacomo and Amabile Tiziani. Mr Tiziani attended local schools and remained a lifelong resident of the area. In 1945 he married Gloria Cidale, who died in 1994.
For over 30 years Mr Tiziani worked as a truck driver for Sonoco Company of Mystic.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Eve Medeiros of Stonington; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by two brothers, Petro Tiziani and Brivio Tiziani; and a sister, Olinda Tiziani.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday 5 October 2002 at Saint Mary Church, Stonington Borough, and burial took place in St. Mary Cemetery, Stonington.
