M. Linda Glaser
Montville — M. Linda Glaser, 51, of Uncasville, died Thursday, in West Palm Beach, Fla.
She was born on Oct. 20, 1950, in New London, the daughter of John and Mary Keefe Lathrop.
She was the wife of Richard L. Glaser.
Mrs. Glaser was a graduate of the University of Hartford and received a master's degree from Eastern Connecticut State University.
She was a 4th grade teacher at Murphy Elementary School in Oakdale.
In addition to her husband of 30 years, she is survived by two sons, Matthew Glaser and Michael Glaser; a daughter, Melissa Marsee; a brother, Frank Lathrop; and a sister, Gail Gallerani.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Episcopal Church, 78 Washington St., Norwich.
Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich.
Memorial donations may be made to Hippocrates Health Institute, 1443 Palmdale Court, West Palm Beach, Fla.

Katherine Morton
Norwich — Katherine Elizabeth Morton, 80, of 89 Union St., Norwich, formerly of Detroit, died Wednesday at home.
She was born on April 24, 1921, in Enondale, Miss., the daughter of the late Archie and Louise Oliver Ramsey.
She was the widow of Charles Edward Morton.
Mrs. Morton was a nurse at Detroit Receiving Hospital.
She is survived by a daughter, Dianne Daniels of Norwich; a son, Richard Morton of Seattle, Wash.; two brothers; two sisters; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Ramona Myra Morton; and a son, Cartell Averett Morton.
The funeral will be held in Detroit.
The Swanson Funeral Home, 806 E. Grand Blvd., Detroit, Mich., is in charge of arrangements.
The Lester Gee Funeral Home, 108 Blinman St., New London, is in charge of local arrangements.

Donald Vail
Donald Vail of Bedford NY and Stonington CT died on 27 March 2002 at the age of 80. Mr Vail was born in Yonkers NY to John I B Vail and Margaret Gray Vail of Hyannis MA and Blairstown NJ. A 1938 graduate of the Holderness School & the Class of 1942 at Princeton University, where he was a member of the Triangle Club, he entered the US Navy in World War II. As a Marine pilot, he served in the South Pacific, leaving the service as a Captain. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1948 and practiced law at the firms of: Sullivan & Cromwell, McCanliss & Early, Alexander & Green, and Walter, Conston, Alexander & Green.
Mr Vail was a founding member of the Bedford Association; Chairman of the Building Committee of St. Francis A M E Zion Church; and a Vestryman and Clerk of the Vestry of St Matthew's Church, Bedford NY. At Northern Westchester Hospital Center, he was a member of the Board of Trustees for 20 years, and a president of the Board from 1977-1982. He had also been a member of the Blue Hill Troupe in New York.
Mr Vail is survived by his wife of 50 years, Priscilla L Vail, author & educator in learning disabilities & dyslexia. He leaves four children: Melissa Vail Selby of Mt Kisco; Polly Vail Walsh of Chevy Chase, MD; Lucia Vail of New York City; Donald Angus Vail of Portland, OR; and six grandchildren. A memorial service was held at St Matthew's Church in Bedford on Monday, 1 April 2002

Leslie M Buck
Leslie Marie (Edmunston) Buck, 57, of Mason's Island Road, Mystic, died suddenly on Saturday 4 May 2002 at home of injuries to her head.
Born on 9 April 1945 in Quincy MA, Mrs Buck was the daughter of Leslie McCloud and Catherine Tangney Edmonston of Stonington. When she was a child, her family moved to Maine, where she attended school and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1962. She attended St Joseph College, where she earned her teaching degree. Mrs Buck returned to the Stonington area in 1967, where she began her teaching career. She married Charles Buck on 7 April 1979 in a ceremony at St Mary Church, Stonington Borough. She earned her MA in education from the University of Connecticut.
At the time of her death, Mrs Buck was a second-grade teacher at Deans Mill School in Stonington, where she had taught for 35 years and where she had worked with children with special needs. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a sorority of women educators, and a communicant of St Mary Church, Stonington.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother, Richard J Edmonston of Worcester MA.
The funeral mass was celebrated at St Mary Church, Stonington, and burial took place in St Mary Cemetery
on Route 1, Stonington.

George Campbell
George L. Campbell, 79, of Cove Road, Stonington, died peacefully on Saturday morning 4 May 2002 in New Haven.
The son of Henry Monroe Campbell and Isabella (Lothrop) Campbell, George Campbell was born in Ann Arbor MI on 27 September 1922. He graduated from St George's School in 1940, Harvard University in 1944, and Columbia Teachers College in 1958. He served in the Navy during WWII and achieved the rank of lieutenant.
Mr Campbell taught for many years at a number of private schools, including Grace Church School in New York City, The Pomfret School in Pomfret and Pine Point School in Stonington. He was very involved in the community and a member of a number of organizations, including the Avalonia Land Conservancy Society, The Indian and Colonial Research Center, the Stonington Historical Society, the New London Maritime Society, Cercle Français and Calvary Church, where he was a member and a former member of the vestry. George was also a member of the Phoenix S-K Club, the Harvard Club of New York for over 50 years, the Harvard Club of Boston, the Wadawanuck Club and the Mellow Fellows.
Mr Campbell married the late Helen Hughes Campbell, the granddaughter of the former U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes, on 27 March 1954. Mrs Campbell died in 1995.
He is survived by his son, G. Stuart Campbell of Pawcatuck. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a brother Henry Monroe Campbell III and a son Robert Lothrop Campbell. He travelled extensively, both by himself and with his family.
His funeral was held on Friday 10 May 2002 at Calvary Church, Stonington, and burial took place in Stonington Cemetery.

Martha Haliday
Martha Chase Haliday, 93, of Port Ludlow, Washington , formerly of Stonington Borough, died on Wednesday 24 April 2002 at her home in Port Ludlow.
The daughter of Warren and Mame (Biro) Chase, she was born in Messina, New York, on 30 January1909. She was the wife of the late Dr. Earl G. Haliday.
Before her relocation to Washington state, Mrs Haliday was a member of Calvary Church in Stonington and the Wadawanuck Yacht Club. She is survived by a son, George W. Haliday of Fredericksburg VA; a daughter, Martha Fisk, of Lucerne Valley CA; a brother, Frank Chase, of Messina NY; three sisters, Diana Anderson of Port Ludlow WA, Alecia Hart of St Augustine FL, and Margaret Hanford of New York; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Donald Taylor
Donald C Taylor, 57, of Stonington, died on Saturday 13 April 2002 at the Westerly Hospital. Born in Westerly on 31 December 1944, he was the son of Mary Doney Taylor of Pawcatuck and the late Donald C Taylor.
Mr Taylor owned and operated the Stonington Chevron station for over 20 years. At the time of his death, he worked as a truck driver for Quinlan Transportation in Pawcatuck.
In addition to his wife and mother, Mr Taylor is survived by a son Andrew D Taylor of Stonington; a daughter Ann Marie Hall of Ledyard; a sister Martha J Johnson of Westerly; and two step-daughters, Rosemarie Paine and Allison Paine, both of Stonington. He also leaves two grandsons, Joshua A Taylor of Stonington and Connor D Hall of Ledyard; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr Taylor's first wife, Margaret Carson Taylor, predeceased him.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday 17 April 2002 at Christ Church, Westerly, and burial will be in Stonington Cemetery.
Nancy Roberts
Nancy Tattersall Roberts, 86, formerly of Stonington, died 16 August 2001, in Williamsburg, Va., after suffering from the effects of Alzheimer's disease for nearly a decade.
She moved to Williamsburg in the mid-1990s. A 1936 graduate of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie NY, Mrs Roberts and her husband, Malcolm Roberts Jr, Lt. Col.(Ret) in the US Army, moved to southern New England in 1961.
From 1961-1976, she taught French at Pine Point School, where she also inaugurated the study skills program for students in the 6th-8th grades. She studied and travelled extensively to bring the purest accent and most effective teaching methods to her students. Her former French students recall her love for the language and the joy she derived from teaching.
In the winter of 2000, Mr. Roberts' honored his wife and her 15 years of teaching at Pine Point by establishing the Roberts Language Department Endowment. The fund provides supporting resources for the Latin, French, and Spanish programs at the school.
Upon her retirement from Pine Point, she cited the following quotation from Dorothy L. Sayers: “I have never yet heard any middle-aged man or woman who worked with his or her brains express any regret for the passing of youth.”
Her volunteer work included Calvary Church in Stonington, and the Mystic Tourist Information Center. She brought food, flowers, and solace to a wide circle of shut-ins, and infirm Calvary Church members. After retirement, she wrote extensively and enjoyed seeing an article she wrote on the power of prayer published in the Christian Science Monitor.
Besides her husband of 58 years, she is survived by a son, Chaplain Colonel Mal Roberts III of Hyattsville MD.; a daughter, Nancy Roberts of Irvine CA; and three grandchildren, Jonathon E. Roberts, Mary L. Roberts, and Brent MacAllister.
The funeral service was held at Arlington National Cemetery
on 31 August 2001. On 23 October 2001, Mr. Roberts died.

Eliot Porter II
Eliot Hale Porter II, 78, of Stonington and Fishers Island, formerly of New Britain and Southington CT, died on Wednesday 20 March 2002 at his house after a long illness. He was married to Marilyn Broersma Porter, who died, and is survived by Marsha Baker Fountain Woolworth Porter.
Born in Hartford, he was the son of Maxwell S and Rachel Parker Porter. He graduated from Mooreland Hill School, attended Westminster School in Simsbury, Taft School and graduated from Cheshire School. He attended Erskine College, Trinity College and the University of Michigan.
Mr Porter served in the 75th Infantry Division, US Army, in Europe during World War II. He attended Road Church in Stonington, and was a member, deacon, trustee and moderator of Union Chapel on Fishers Island.
Among the many clubs of which Mr Porter was a member are the Wadawanuck Yacht Club in Stonington, the Ram Island Yacht Club, The Fishers Island Yacht Club and the Corinthians.
In addition to his wife, Mr Porter is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Peggy Porter of Kensington and David and Julie Porter of Unadilla NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Porter and George Loveday of Stonington and Fishers Island; a sister Maxine Porter Arnold of Middlebury, Fishers Island, and Naples FL; seven grandchildren; three nieces and four nephews.
