Nicolas Villejo Sr.
Nicolas Villejo Sr.
Groton — Nicolas F. Villejo Sr., 97, of 239 Midway Oval, died Wednesday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
He was born on Sept. 10, 1904, in the Philippines.
He was the widower of Bertha Robinson Villejo, who died July 2, 1988. Mr. Villejo served in the merchant marine. He then joined the Navy in 1942, and served until 1964. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War. Following his military career, he worked in maintenance for the Groton Post office.
He is survived by a son, Nicolas F. Villejo Jr.; and three grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was pre-deceased by a stepdaughter, Bernadette Panganiban.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton. Private burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery
in New London. Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Robert Repetti
East Lyme — Robert F. Repetti, 69, of 85 B Fairhaven Road, died Tuesday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
He was born on Aug. 15, 1932, in New London, the son of James and Veda Rogers Repetti.
He was the husband of Bernadette Cocill Repetti. Mr. Repetti was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a self-employed tax consultant.
An avid Miami Dolphin and New York Yankees fan, he also enjoyed reading and playing cards.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Glen Repetti of Niantic and Scott Repetti of Montville; and two sisters, Betty St. Denis of Quaker Hill and Jean Farmer of Phil Campbell, Ala.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Broad Street, New London.
Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Catherine Swizdun
Mystic — Catherine Porter Swizdun, 94, formerly of Masons Island Road, died Wednesday at Hamilton Health and Rehabilitation Center in Norwich, where she was a patient for the last five years.
She was born on March 7, 1907, in Groton, the daughter of Herbert and Bessie Ecclestone Porter. She married Peter Francis Swizdun on Aug. 2, 1934, in Stonington. He died on July 9, 1993.
A lifelong resident of the area, Mrs. Swizdun worked at the original Puritan Laundry on Hatch Street, and also at Davies Newsstand, which was located at the drawbridge in Mystic.
She and her husband enjoyed outings on their boat, Pet-Cat, named after each of them.
She is survived by a nephew, Ronald Hewitt of Mystic, with whom she lived for time, and several other nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in Elm Grove Cemetery
in Mystic. There are no calling hours.

Ralph Pezzello Sr.
New London — Ralph P. “Bobo” Pezzello Sr., 82, of 122 Ashcroft Road, died Thursday at Bayview Health Care in Waterford after a period of failing health.
He was born on Sept. 18, 1919, in New London, the son of the late Frank and Lillian Barraco Pezzello. He was the husband of Jenny Jaczynski Pezzello. A lifelong resident of New London, Mr. Pezzello attended local schools. He was a retired member of the Army National Guard.
For many years, Mr. Pezzello owned and operated Pezzello Remodeling Co. He also was retired from Electric Boat in Groton, after many years of service. He was a member of the local Roofers and Carpenters Unions, and was a delegate for the Electric Boat Carpenters Union. An avid baseball fan, he also enjoyed following thoroughbred horse racing and taking walks at Ocean Beach Park in New London.
Mr. Pezzello was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in New London.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by a son, Ralph P. Pezzello Jr. of New London; a daughter, Lillian M. Fedus of New London; a brother, Sonny F. Pezzello of New London; three sisters, Jane Giulietti of Waterford and Helen Mancini and Annie Picardi, both of Pompano Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, James and Joseph Pezzello; two sisters, Mary Shabarekh and Josephine Rocchetti; and a great-grandchild, Ashley Elizabeth Fedus.
The funeral will assemble at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London, and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in New London. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New London. Calling hours are 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Thomas Cook
Westerly — Thomas Stephen Cook, 12, of West Enosburg, Vt., grandson of Eugene Cook of Bradford, R.I., died Nov. 21, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., following a four-year battle with leukemia.
He was born on Dec. 27, 1988, in Burlington, the son of Thomas E. Cook, formerly of Norwich, and Deborah Perley Cook.
Thomas was in the seventh grade and was his class treasurer at Enosburg Falls Middle School in Vermont.
He was a ball boy for the University of Vermont's men's basketball team for the past four seasons.
He was also the 2001 Children's Miracle Network Champion for the state of Vermont, for which he traveled to Washington , D.C, and met with President George W. Bush. He then went to Disney World to take part in the network's national telethon.
Thomas enjoyed basketball, four-wheeling, golfing, hunting and going for walks.
Besides his parents and paternal grandfather, he is survived by an adopted brother, Tony Orciari of Lyndonville, Vt.; his maternal grandparents, Stephen and Carolyn Gates Perley of Enosburg; his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Cifala Sherman of Derwood, Md.; and his maternal great-grandparents, Charles Gates of Franklin, Vt., Winifred DeGoosh of Franklin, Vt., and Fern Simmons Perley of Enosburg Falls, Vt.
Services were already held in Vermont.

Agnes Clark
Stonington — Agnes Estelle Clark, 91, of Langworthy Avenue, Lords Point, died Thursday, her 91st birthday, at home.
Born on Nov. 29, 1910, in Holyoke, Mass., she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret Lobban Clark.
Raised in Holyoke, she graduated from Holyoke High School in 1929.
Moving to Lords Point in 1965, Miss Clark worked at Yardney Electric in Pawcatuck as the tool room supervisor. She was previously employed at the Albert Steiger Co. and Electric Game, both in Holyoke.
Miss Clark was an active member of the Lords Point community, and was the senior member of its Neighborhood Watch.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Joan Mills of Clarksburg, Mass.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Maria Jackson
Groton — Maria Antonia Jackson, 66, of 300 Brandegee Ave., No. 131, died Wednesday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
She was born on Dec. 16, 1934, in Puerto Rico, the daughter of Juan and Mercedes Sanchez Ayala.
She married Lewis N. Jackson on Nov. 16, 1956. He died on Sept. 27, 1992.
Mrs. Jackson worked as a welder at Electric Boat in Groton.
She was a member of the Apprentice Alumni of Electric Boat.
She is survived by a son, John L. Jackson of Atlanta; a daughter, Shirley Maddox of Columbus, Ga.; a stepson, Lewis N. Jackson of Laurel, Md.; a stepdaughter, Dianne Jackson of Washington , D.C.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 24th Street Baptist Church in Columbus, Ga. Private burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery
in Washington , D.C.

Alma Thibdeau
Westerly — Alma Gouvin Thibdeau, 101, of 118 High St., died Sunday at The Westerly Hospital in Westerly.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1900, in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late John and Auxilla Gagne Gouvin. She was the widow of Henry Thibdeau.
Mrs. Thibdeau was a threader at Albany Felt Co. in Albany, N.Y., until her retirement in the late 1960s.
She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Westerly.
She is survived by a brother, Thomas Gouvin of Westerly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon today at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly. Burial will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery
in Westerly.

Franklin Maynard
Ledyard — Franklin Elliot Maynard, 89, of 17 River Drive, Gales Ferry, died Wednesday at The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich.
He was born on Dec. 31, 1911, in Norwich, the son of Wilton E. and Ella Aldrich Maynard.
He married Ruth E. Main on Oct. 14, 1938, in Gales Ferry. She died on Jan. 16, 1987.
As a young child, Mr. Maynard lived on Fishers Island, later moving to Uncasville, graduating from Montville Public School in 1927. He then moved to Ledyard, and left school to help support his family. He and his wife moved to Gales Ferry in 1939.
Mr. Maynard was employed by the New York, New Haven, & Hartford Railroad as a laborer, and retired as supervisor for the then New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad /Penn Central Railroad after 47 years. He also worked as a plumber.
He is survived by two sons, Robert F. Maynard of East Ridge, Tenn., and Raymond Maynard of Gales Ferry; a daughter, Cynthia Payne of Norwich; a sister, Ethel Hildebrand of Ledyard; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Walter Maynard and Clarence Bidwell; and a sister, Edith Sterry.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Avery-Stoddard Cemetery
in Ledyard.
Calling hours are 3-7 p.m. today at the Gales Ferry Funeral Home of Church & Allen, Hurlbutt Road, Gales Ferry.
