William J. Houra
COLCHESTER - William J. Houra, age 77, of 182 Route 85, Colchester, died on December 22, 1997 at Middlesex Memorial Hospital in Middletown.
He was born on June 16, 1920 in East Haddam, the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Houra. Mr. Houra attended school in East Haddam and resided in the area throughout his life. He served in the United States Army for two years during World War II. During his active service, he was awarded The Victory Medal and the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with five bronze stars. Mr. Houra was retired after having worked as a Woodsman in the logging industry.
He married Ann L. Lawton on June 21, 1952, in Colchester. She survives him. In addition to his beloved wife of 45 years, survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Evelyn Houra of Colchester; a son, Edward Houra, of Colchester; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Erlandson of Holly Hill, Florida; a sister, Sylvia Litwin of Waterford; six grandchildren Sarah, Kathryn, Teresa Houra, all of Colchester; April Houra of Norwich; Bradley and Craig Erlandson, both of Holly Hill, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on December 26, at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, located at 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. Burial followed in New St. Andrew's Cemetery
with full military honors.

Clark Bonnell
COLCHESTER - Clark Bonnell, age 87, of Dublin Village, Colchester, formerly of Canton, Connecticut, died on March 26, 1998 at the Colchester Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on Mary 26, 1910 in Fort Hill, Pennsylvania , the son of the late Calvin and Minnie (Wiltrout) Bonnell. Mr. Bonnell was retired after having worked for the Town of Canton. He is survived by a brother, Harry Bonnell of Fort Hill, Pennsylvania , and dear friends, Harold and Judy Thompson and family of Colchester.
Funeral services will be private. The Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester is in charge of arrangements.
Raymond Evan Hughes
Raymond Evan Hughes of Landing Hill Rd., East Haddam, died at Harrington Court Convalescent Home in Colchester, on Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999. He was 86.
After serving in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, Mr. Hughes served as a Vice President in charge of Press and Public Relations for such New York City advertising agencies as N. W. Ayer and J. Walter Thompson for more than two decades. He specialized in publicizing theatrical celebrities for such TV shows as The Bell Telephone Hour, The Firestone Hour, and the Kraft Music Hall.
After retiring to East Haddam in 1970, he served as President of the East Haddam Historical Society from 1978-1981. He was also a member of the Connecticut Gilbert & Sullivan Society from 1981 to 1997.
The son of Iowa native Jennie Hughes Dull, also an East Haddam resident until her passing in 1988, Mr. Hughes is survived by a cousin, Tom Schneller, of Rhinelander, Wisconsin.

Josephine T. Organek
A memorial Mass for Josephine Theresa (Jagoda) Organek, 86, of Boston Road, Middletown, formerly of Strong Avenue in Portland, was celebrated July 6, 1999, in St. Mary Church of Middletown. Frank Stiles
Waterford — Frank H. Stiles, 71, of 14 Beacon St., died Monday at Fairview Nursing Home in Groton.
He was born on April 2, 1929, in Port Chester, N.Y., the son of Frank A. and Ruth Himple Stiles.
He married Catherine M. Fagan on May 17, 1952, at the Church of St. Pascal Baylon in St. Albans, N.Y.
Mr. Stiles served in the Army.
He graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York in June 1951.
Mr. Stiles was employed as a textile designer for many New York firms for 25 years. He later worked as a self-employed artist.
He was a member of the Deerfield Knights of Columbus in Deerfield, N.Y. He attended St. Joseph's Church in New London.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Thomas Stiles of Norwich and William Stiles of Stafford Springs; two daughters, Kathleen Landon of Groton and Marianne Correia of Jamesport, N.Y.; a brother, Robert Stiles of Floral Park, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. Burial will be private.
A calling hour will be held from 2 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Deborah Dodge
Waterford — Deborah Marie Bomster Dodge, 43, of 56 Olive St., died Monday at Hartford Hospital.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1957, in New Haven, the daughter of William Bomster of Stonington and the late Patricia Pompane Bomster.
She was a 1975 graduate of Morgan High School in Clinton.
Mrs. Dodge was employed by her father in his scallop business. She later fished commercially for tuna with her former husband, Charlie Dodge, out of Block Island. They then moved to Chatham, Mass.
In 1997, she received her certification as a practical nurse from the Cape Cod Regional Technical School. She moved to Waterford two years ago, and was employed at the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich.
In addition to her father and former husband, she is survived by two sons, Edward Dodge and Joseph Dodge, both of Chatham, Mass; three brothers, William J. Bomster, Joseph M. Bomster, and Michael P. Bomster, all of North Stonington; a sister, Nancy Seifert of Griswold; her maternal grandmother, Nancy Pompane of Stonington; her stepmother, Venna Jo Bomster of Stonington; and her companion, Lynne A. Ekblom of Waterford.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church in Stonington.

Israel Liverant
Former board member of Lyman Allyn Museum
Colchester — Israel E. “Zeke” Liverant, 83, of 12 Bulkley Hill Road, a well known antiques dealer and former board member of the Lyman Allyn Museum, died Sunday at home.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1916, in Colchester, the son of Nathan and Esther Liverant.
He was the husband of Joanna Liverant.
Mr. Liverant was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was the second generation of a three-generation family antiques business in Colchester that was nationally recognized, particularly for its 18th and 19th century American antiques.
Mr. Liverant was a retired board member of the Antiquarian and Landmarks Society, and a member of the Antiques Dealer Association and the Appraisers Association of America.
He was a founder of the Colchester Historical Society and was a retired member of the Bacon Academy Board of Trustees and a long-term member and officer of Congregation Ahavath Achim.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Linda Barger of New Albany, Ohio, and Abby Gerrity of Sarasota, Fla.; a son, Arthur Liverant of Colchester; a sister, Pearl Vogel; two brothers, Abraham and Philip Liverant; and seven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia Liverant; a sister, Ruth Feir Peck; and two brothers, Benjamin and Samuel Liverant.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Congregation Ahavath Achim Synagogue, Lebanon Avenue, Colchester.
Shiva will be observed by the family at the home of the deceased today, and on Wednesday and Thursday at the home of Arthur Liverant, 43 School Road, Colchester.
Memorial donations may be made to Bacon Academy Board of Trustees, the Colchester Historical Society, Congregation Ahavath Achim, the Cragin Memorial Library or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Doreta Sisco
Montville — Doreta “Mary” Yeitz Sisco, 86, of 5 Richard Brown Drive, Uncasville, formerly of 299 Washington Street, Norwich, died Monday at Hillcrest Health Care in Uncasville.
She was born on Oct. 13, 1913, in Jewett City, the daughter of the late Ralph and Anna Cashingnano Yeitz.
She married John L. Sisco Sr. on Jan. 11, 1933, in New York.
Mrs. Sisco was last employed as an assistant clerk in the New London County District Court system.
She was a member of the Democratic Women's Club of Norwich, the Italian Women's Social Club of Norwich, and the Connecticut State Employees Association. She also served on the board of directors and was a member of the Senior Citizen Center in Norwich.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, John L. Sisco Jr. of Norwich; a daughter, Jacqueline S. Jakubielski of Ridgefield; a sister, Anna Janik of Norwich; a brother, Patrick Yeitz of Norwich; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Rose Sposato; and three brothers, Angelo “Prunsie” Yeitz, Peter Yeitz, and Alfred Yeitz.
The funeral will assemble at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich, and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Patrick in Norwich. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lillian Preibisius
Mystic — Lillian Johnson Preibisius, 94, formerly of Lady Lake, Fla., died Tuesday at the Mary Elizabeth Nursing Center in Mystic.
She was born on May 13, 1907, in Quitman, Ark., the daughter of Robert and Sally Grider Johnson.
She was the widow of Clarence Preibisius.
Mrs. Preibisius is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Cooke of Flagler Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
At her request, there is to be no service.

Ada Shippee
New London — Ada G. Miller Shippee, 56, of 164 Vauxhall St., died Friday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
She was born in New London on April 27, 1945, the daughter of Joseph and Florence Torville. She was married to Hal Lester Miller of Norwich and the late Wayne Harold Shippee.
She is survived by a son, Hal Lester Miller Jr. of Lake Placid, N.Y.; three daughters, Melinda Henderson of Uncasville, Florence Baldwin of St. Louis, Mo., and Lily Mae Rosa of Pennsylvania ; a brother, Art Torville of New Hampshire; three sisters, Barbara Weicher of Groton, Marie Vanadestine of Moosup and Evelyn Stinnett of Arkansas; and 12 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Ann Preeze.
A memorial service will be held on Nov. 25 at the home of her daughter, Melinda Henderson, 1037 Norwich New London Tpke., Uncasville, at 2 p.m. Burial will be private. Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., is in charge of arrangements.
