Richard Alan Breiding, “Rick”, 54, of Cromwell, entered into eternal rest Saturday April 15, 2006 at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown, CT. He was born in New Britain, CT, son of Richard Hendrick Breiding, Jr. of Portland ME and Dade City, FL, and the late Doris (MacNeil) (Breiding) Drzymalski and resided in various cities in CT and Maine. Richard attended E.C. Goodwin Technical School in New Britain and in 1969 graduated from Portland High School, Portland, ME. In 1997 he graduated from the Manchester Community College with an Associate Degree in Food Service Management. In 1995 he received the American Chef Silver Medal for his creation of a gingerbread church that was displayed in the governors mansion and received national attention. In 1996 he was the American Chef Federation bronze medallist and in the same year was President of the Manchester Community College Hospitality Club. His many creations where displayed and sold, with the proceeds going to benefit local charities. Richard served proudly in the United States Coast Guard during the Viet Nam Era, and circled the world on the USS Constitution. Richard was a disabled Veteran and was involved in organizations and activities related to his interest and love of all things military. Richard was a lifelong Christian and a member of the Berlin Congregational Church. He is survived by his beloved children, a son, Joshua Imre Breiding of New Britain and a daughter, Jessica Elizabeth Breiding of Collinsville. His loving family, three brothers, Paul C. Breiding of Hebron, CT, Kevin J. Breiding of West Buxton, ME, and Bruce Drzymalski of Madison, NC. Six sisters, Ruth Breiding Allen and Donna Breiding Kirkland both of Longwood, FL, Christine Lee Carpenter of Fredon Township, NJ, Susann Briere and Robin Gene Black, both of Berlin, CT, Laurie Ann Mallma of Newington, CT and many beloved nieces and nephews. His former wife, Lenora Boros of New Britain, CT, and his long time companion, Mary Sims, of East Hampton, CT, also survive him. He is pre-deceased by his brother Donald L. Breiding and his beloved “Grammy” Breiding. His funeral service will be held on Saturday April 22, 2006 at 9:30 am at the Berlin Congregational Church, 878 Worthington Ridge, Berlin, CT with Pastor David Christensen, Jr. officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, CT. Relatives and friends may call on Friday April 21, 2006 from 5 -7pm at the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain.

Chester H. Chalko, 84, of Newington died on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at a local convalescent home. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Zytka) Chalko. Born in Newington he lived in California most of his life, returning to Newington several years ago. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was employed by Hughes Aircraft, Inc. as an Engineer for many years. Mr. Chalko enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Charlene Harrison and Jon of El Segundo, CA, two brothers Peter Chalko of Branford, Louis Chalko of Newington, two sisters Mary Borawski of Newington, Irene Graceffa of Racine, Wisconsin, several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother John Chalko. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial service on Saturday, 10:15 a.m., at Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington.
Burial will be private. A calling hour will be held on Saturday from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Denise (Michaud) Galante, 68, of Newington, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, after a 9-1/2 year heroic fight with cancer. She was the beloved wife and best friend of Albert A. Galante for 48 years. Born in Lewiston, ME, daughter of the late Joseph and Laurette (Roux) Michaud, Mrs. Galante was raised in New Britain and lived in Newington for the past 42 years. She was a member of Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington, and was an avid reader and loved to garden. For over 20 years, Denise loved to volunteer her time with the New Britain General Hospital Auxilary. She was also a member of the Women’s Club of New Britain. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she treasured any time spent with her family and leaves four children and their spouses, Michael and Cheryl Galante of Newington, Elizabeth and Duane Sayre of Manquin, VA, Amy and Carl Cianci of West Hartford, Jane and Charlie Driscoll of Farmingon; she was “Grammy” to her ten grandchildren, Laura, Jennifer, Michael and Peter Galante, Iris Rivers, Paul, Nicholas and Christina Cianci, Amy and Charlie Driscoll. She also leaves a sister Theresa Jeffrey of Barkhamsted; her brother-in-law Frank Galante and his wife Janet of Southington; several nieces and nephews; and many loyal friends who expressed their love and devotion in so many thoughtful ways. Her family wishes to express its deepest appreciation to Dr. James Hoffman and his staff, the staff on C-5 and the Outpatient Chemo Department at New Britain General Hospital, Dr. Jeffrey Kagan, Ilona Jacobs from Central Connecticut VNA Hospice, and the staff at The Reservoir, for all their kindness and devoted care of their dear wife, mother and grandmother. Her funeral service will begin on Friday, at 9:00 a.m. with a eulogy given by her daughter Jane Driscoll at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit. Interment will be in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial. Mary (Nieckarz) Vasile, of New Britain died peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2006. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis J. Vasile. Born in New Britain, daughter of the late John and Eva (Krupka) Nieckarz she was a lifelong resident. Mary was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, New Britain, the Ladies Guild and a member of the Catholic Council. Mary is survived by her two daughters, Marilyn Lange, M.D. and her husband Vladimir Lange, M.D. of Los Angeles, CA and Pamela Vasile of New Britain; her two grandchildren, Chad Lange and Christina Lange; her brother-in-law, Francis X. Vasile and his wife Mary of Plainville; sister-in-law, Eleanor Vasile of Berlin. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Anthony, Edward and Stanley Nieckarz. Mary’s funeral services will be held on Thursday 10:00 a.m. from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Eugene L. Piendak, 89, of Berlin, entered into eternal rest unexpectedly, September 30, 2005 at the Lowell General Hospital, Lowell MA. He was born in New Britain, son of the late Grzegusz and Mary (Soczynska) Piendak and was a resident of New Britain and Berlin for most of his life. He was the beloved Husband of the late Jean (Pilewski) Piendak. He was formerly employed by the Emhart Corporation for 25 years until his retirement in 1984. He also served with the US Navy during WW II. Gene was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, East Berlin, was a member of its Men’s Club, served as a lector and was a former member of the Scholarship Committee, He was a member of Falcon Nest #88 in New Britain. He is survived by his loving family, three sons, George A. Piendak of Baltimore, MD; Dennis E. Piendak and his wife Sharon M. of Dracut, MA and David J. Piendak and his wife Virginia H. of Southlake, TX; six devoted grandchildren, Kevin Piendak and his wife Kristen, Melanie, Emily, Devon, Whitney and Blair Piendak and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, James H. Piendak, a daughter in law, Zoe (Daidakis) Piendak and a brother, Barney Piendak. His funeral services will be held on Thursday, 9:00 a.m. from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 66 Cottage St., East Berlin. WALLINGFORD – Norman Almon Hall, 67, of 283 South Main Street died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at his home.
He was born in New Haven, March 8, 1938 a son of the late Almon E. and Amy Ericson Hall.
Mr. Hall was an accountant at the Choate Rosemary Hall School in Wallingford. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wallingford, Wallingford Historical Society, Faulkner’s Light Brigade, The Steamship Historical Society of America and the CT Post Card Club.
He is survived by a sister, The Rev. Marjorie Hall Davis and her husband Karl E. Peters of Granby, three nieces & nephews, Paul Davis and his wife Marcia of Granby, Anne Davis Pickart and her husband Bob of Falmouth, MA, Mark Hall Davis and his wife Valerie of Granby, 6 grand nieces & grand nephews, Jana, Matthew, Sarah, David & Gregory Pickart & Amelia Anne Davis, 3 cousins, Arlene Ericson and her husband Tom Moore, Waymart, PA, Elizabeth Calaway of Bridgeport and Alan Ericson and his wife Linda of Trumbull, 4 second cousins, Alicia Calaway of NYC, Dana, Shelley and Christopher Ericson of Trumbull.

WALLINGFORD - Rose Albertina Benigni, 87, of 55 Kondracki Lane died Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at the Brook Hollow Healthcare Center. She was the wife of Lawrence L. Benigni of Wallingford.
She was born in Meriden, April 20, 1917 a daughter of the late William and Minnie Higginson Mausolf.
Mrs. Benigni was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Meriden.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons: Clark M. Green of NV, Larry Gronau of Naugatuck, Lario Benigni of NJ, Enrico Benigni of FL, six daughters, Rose G. Zisk of Burlington, CT, Margaret Marsh of OH, Elizabeth Gopoian of Wallingford, Laura McDonald of West Haven, Sheila Monson of Southington and Beverly Benigni of NJ and 33 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Michelle Higley.

DURHAM – Richard E. Morse, 72, of 220 Stagecoach Rd. died Wednesday evening, May 4, 2005 at the Middlesex Hospital Hospice. He was the husband of Alicia Smith Morse.
He was born in Wallingford, November 1, 1932 a son of the late Erwin Wilbur and Katharine Hummer Morse.
Mr. Morse had served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for 26 years. He was employed as a mechanic for many years at various GM Dealerships.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford. He was a Scout Master for the Wallingford Boy Scout Troop 5 and for Durham Boy Scout Troop 27, and was Advisor for the Order of the Arrow, was a member of the Wallingford Historical Society, Cogin-Chuggers Square Dance & Cheshire Cats Square Dance Clubs and was a participant of Wallingford, CT & Wallingford, England exchange for over 20 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Suzanne E. Morse of South Glastonbury, a son, David Morse and his wife Tracy of Higganum, and a grandson, Craig David Morse. He also leaves a 1st cousin, Linda H. Schuch of Bronx, NY and a 2nd cousin, Bruce O. Marquardt of Wallingford.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 12 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Wallingford, 23 South Main Street. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. WALLINGFORD - Lois Siglinger Ostrom, 88, of 1203 Ashlar Village, formerly of Ansonia and New Haven died Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at the Masonic Healthcare Center, Wallingford. She was the wife of David E. Ostrom.
She was born in Easton, PA, February 24, 1917 a daughter of the late Herbert and Martha Link Siglinger.
Mrs. Ostrom was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wallingford, Meridian Chapter # 8, Order of Eastern Star in Meriden, Pyremus Chapter # 82, Daughters of the Nile in Milford and Diana-Birger Jarl Lodge # 3, Order of Vasa in New Haven.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two brothers, Frederic Siglinger and Richard Siglinger both of Shelton and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Paul Siglinger and a sister, Ruth Sesulka.

MERIDEN - Ethel Bird, 104, of 33 Cone Ave., died Thursday, June, 2, 2005 at Coccomo Memorial Healthcare Center in Meriden. She was the wife of the late Everett Bird.
She was born in Port Rexton, Newfoundland, Canada, November 14, 1900 a daughter of the late Absalon and Elisabeth Ploughman Bailey.
Ethel and Everett arrived separately to the United States around 1920, married in Boston in 1925 and lived most of their lives in Wallingford. She was a parishioner of St. Paul's Episcopal Church since 1925 and a 50 year member and past worthy matron of the former Mizpah Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and currently a member of the Meridian Chapter No. 8, Order of the Eastern Star in Meriden. She was also a member of the Wallingford Grange and Senior Citizens Center.
When she became a widow in 1967, she learned to drive and got her first drivers license. She lived alone and independently in her own home until she was over 100 years old.
She is survived by a daughter, Jean Kohan of Wallingford, a son, George Bird of Guilford, six grandchildren, Jeffery Kohan, Jonathan Kohan, Judith Kohan Williams all of Wallingford, Evelyn Bird Kirner of Newtown, Gwendolyn Bird Bottomley of Chelmsford, MA and Christopher Bird of Honolulu, HI, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews both in this country and Canada. She was predeceased by a daughter Muriel and four brothers, John, Gordon, Benjamin and George and four sisters, Louise, Ada, Mary and Elsie.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 65 N. Main St., Wallingford. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford was in charge of the arrangements.
