Estelle (Borawski) English, 93, of Hartford, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006. She was the wife of the late John P. English. Born in Hartford, she lived in Avon before returning to Hartford, many years ago and was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church and it’s Rosary Club. Mrs. English was a member of the Southwest Seniors and Barry Square Seniors, Hartford. She leaves her step-son, James P. English, of Wethersfield; her two daughters, Arlene Koch and Jacqueline Reynolds, both of St. Peters, MO; her four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, four nieces and five nephews. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, 9:30 a.m., at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian burial, 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Hartford. Interment will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Avon. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday from 6 to 8:00 p.m., at Newington Memorial.

Bernice Buotte

Bernice (Grausis) Buotte, 87, of Meriden peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2006. Born in Rumford, ME, daughter of the late John and Bernice (Bartas) Grausis, she lived in Meriden for over 40 years. She retired from Meriden Hospital after many years of employment. Bernice’s kind, generous spirit uplifted all who knew and loved her. She treasured all the everyday joys of life. Bernice leaves her brother-in-law, Edward Ginszanski, of West Hartford; her two nieces, Valerie Furst and her husband, Joseph, of Rocky Hill, Lois Kopec, of Sarasota, FL; a nephew, Robert Ginszanski, of Seminole, FL. She was pre-deceased by two sisters, Rose Ginszanski and Mildred Kopec. A heartfelt thanks goes to the Curtis Home staff for the excellent care, compassion and support provided to Bernice and her family. Her funeral services will be held Monday, 11:00 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington with the Rev. George Couturier officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m. at Newington Memorial. Henry S. Zadrozny, 81, of New Britain, entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 10, 2006 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in New Britain, son of the late Frank and Catherine (Patalan) Zadrozny, and was a lifelong resident. He was formerly employed as a security guard for Securitas Security Co. at the Hartford Group in Southington. Henry was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran serving with Company C of the 165th Engineers Company Battalion. He was a member of St. Jerome Church. He is survived by his beloved wife Florence (Budnick) Zadrozny and his loving family, two sons Robert H. Zadrozny and his wife Dana, of New Britain, and David R. Zadrozny and his fiancé Mila Ruiu, of Burlington, his daughter Diane M. Hammond, of Vienna, VA, three devoted grandchildren Brendan R. Zadrozny, Carly A.Zadrozny, both of New Britain, and Scott Hammond of Virginia, one brother Lucial Zadrozny, of Chapel Hill, NC, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Monday April 17, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jerome’s Church. Burial with military honors will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Zadrozny Family Scholarship, c/o St. Paul Catholic High School, Attn: Grace Wollert, 1001 Stafford Ave., Bristol, CT 06010. Angelina D'Alessio

Angelina D’Alessio, 92, of New Britain died peacefully on Thursday, April 13, 2006 in New Britain. She was the beloved wife of Thomas D’Alessio for 71 years. Born in New York, daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Nappi she was a resident of New Britain most of her life. Angelina was a member of St. Ann’s Church, New Britain. Besides her husband Thomas of New Britain she is survived by her loving daughter Geraldine Hunt and her husband David of Southington; her grandson, Thomas Hunt and his wife Kathleen of Lebanon; her granddaughter, Andrea Hunt of New Britain; her brother, Joseph Nappi and his wife Ann of Florida and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 8:45 a.m. from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Burritt Hill.

Eugene P. Karambay

Eugene “Geno” Karambay, 77, of Newington, died Thursday, April 13, 2006. He was the widower of Sonia (Georges) Karambay. Gene was a watchmaker since the age of 18 and only recently gave up his shop in Newington. He leaves two daughters Regina Flansbury and her husband David, of Newington, and Georgia Karambay of Kyle, TX, his two sons Paul Karambay and his wife Debra, of Berlin, and Steven Karambay, of Eagle, CO, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many dear friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Newington Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 310061, Newington CT 06131-0061 or to the donor’s choice.

Mary (Szymanski) Kubas, 91, of New Britain died Sunday, April 16, 2006 at New Britain General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley L. Kubas, Sr. for 67 years.
Born in New Britain, daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (Grabek) Szymanski, she was a lifelong resident of New Britain. Mary was a member of St. Mary Church, New Britain for over 60 years. She was employed by Landers, Frary and Clark, of New Britain and General Electric of Plainville before her retirement.Mary is survived by her two sons, Stanley L. Kubas, Jr. of Kalamazoo, Mich. and David R. Kubas and his wife Evelyn of Canton; her four grandchildren, Benjamin Wylie, Justin David, Mark Steven and Cheryl Kubas; two great-grandchildren, Marlee Hope and Aidan James Kubas; her sisters-in-law, Jean Stegall and Margaret Szymanski both of New Britain. Mary is fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Lorelei (Augustyn) Kubas, her brothers John, Joseph and Casimir Szymanski. The family would like to thank her care-givers Jadwiga Niedojad, Wanda Wlodarczyk and her personal physician Dr. Lucyanna Kolakowska for their devoted care and attention. Additional thanks goes to the superb caring professional staff on floors N-3 and C-5 who attended to her at the New Britain General Hospital. Her funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2006, 9:00 a.m. from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, New Britain. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse and Home Care, 103 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105.

Marjorie Purtell

Marjorie Purtell, 91, widow of Thomas M. Purtell of Newington died on April 19, 2006 after a very brief illness. Mrs. Purtell was born in Hartford, CT and lived in Newington since 1951. She graduated from New Britain High School and New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Congregational, Newington and volunteered for many years at the church thrift shop. Mrs. Purtell was a past member of the Newington Woman’s Club, Newington Garden Club, Shuttle Meadow Country Club, Indian Hill Country Club and the New Britain General Hospital Auxillary.
Surviving are two daughters Patricia Smith and her husband Eugene of Closter, NJ, Cathy Nolton and her husband Robert of Westminster, MD, one granddaughter Pamela Smith, M.D. of Vail, Colorado, four grandsons Thomas Corbett of Secretary, MD, William Corbett of Norwich, Patrick Corbett of Los Angeles, CA, Steven Smith of Western Springs, IL, three great granddaughters Ashley, Kincaid and Maya, two great grandsons Thomas and Justin. Mrs. Purtell is also survived by her nephew and his wife Gerald Neipp and Maureen of Old Saybrook.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
There will be no calling hours and burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at the Church of Christ, Congregational, 1075 Main St., Newington at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 13th. Please join the family for refreshments in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

Rita Ann Brown

Rita Ann (Shivock) Brown, 86, of Newington, died peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2006, in the comfort of her daughter’s home. She was the widow of Charles D. Brown. Born and raised in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Peter Shivock and Anna (Semeska) Shivock. “Ruthie” was a Newington resident since 1954 and was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Newington. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she leaves her son, Charles Brown, Jr., and his wife Corky of Higganum; her daughter Linda Jose and her husband Antonio of East Berlin; six grandchildren, Meghan, Sean and Liam Brown, and Timothy, Caitlin and Daniel Jose. She also leaves her brother Simon Shivock of Scranton, PA; and many family members and friends. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, at 9:15 a.m. from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church. Interment will be in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial. Memorial donations may be made to VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, 255 Pitkin St., East Hartford, CT 06108.

Pauline Wilk

Pauline M. Wilk, 96, died peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, April 22, 2006. Born in Bondsville, MA, daughter of the late Antoni and Anna Strycharz, she lived in Newington for the last 28 years. After high school, she was employed as a telephone operator in New York City. In 1930, she married Milton J. Wilk of Three Rivers, MA. They made their home in the Hartford area and were employed by the Arrow Hart & Heigmann for about 40 years. She was pre-deceased by her sister Bertha Strycharz , her husband and her sister Catherine (Strycharz) Wilk. Survivors include her sister Mary A. Belliveau of Newington, her son and daughter-in-law Milton A. Wilk and Patricia of Proctorsville, VT, two granddaughters Catherine W. Perrotti of Newington, Pamela A. Couture of Lunenburg, VT, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Her funeral service will be held today, 10:15 a.m., at Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m., at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church, Hartford. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.

Thomas G. Cavanaugh, Jr.

Thomas G. Cavanaugh, Jr. 86, of Newington, beloved husband of Evy (Carlson) Cavanaugh for 61 years, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006. Born in Hartford, January 29, 1920, son of the late Thomas and Ellen (Grady) Cavanaugh, Thomas was a Newington resident for 59 years. He was a 1942 graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a BCE, attended graduate school at the American University from 1951-1953, and was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Newington. A retired Commander, who served with the U.S. Navy in the 56th SeaBee Division during World War II from 1943 –1946 and again during the Korean War from 1951 – 1953. Tom was employed by Bartlett and Brainard Eacott Construction, Inc. One of the great thrills of his life was to watch the Boston Red Sox win the World Series in 2004 with his son. Along with his wife, he is survived by his son Thomas Geoffrey Cavanaugh, of Cromwell, his daughter Elyse Sadler and her husband Steve, of Cheshire, his four granddaughters Holly Smulski Fennell, Laura Smulski, Erin Cavanaugh, and Meghan Cavanaugh, and his great-granddaughter Layne Fennell. He was pre-deceased by his grandson James Mathew Smulski. A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Newington. Military honors will follow immediately after the Mass. Interment will be private. There are no calling hours. Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington is serving the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Assoc. P.O. Box 454, Kensington, CT, 06037.
