Mary J. Nugent

MERIDEN -- Mary J. Nugent, 82, wife of the late Douglas J. Nugent, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at the Meriden Center after a lengthy illness.

Born in Meriden, Oct. 25, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jane Dowling Alix. She was a lifelong Meriden resident and attended Meriden schools. Mrs. Nugent was employed by AGC Inc. retiring in 1983. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Anne Nugent of Meriden; and a son and daughter-in-law, John and Linda Nugent of Meriden; a sister, Frances Conroy of Meriden; and two brothers, Raymond Alix of So. Meriden and Robert Alix of Meriden. Mrs. Nugent is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters; and a brother, Nellie Evarts, Yvonne Cassidy, Elizabeth Becroft and Leo Alix.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, April 2, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be private in St. Laurent Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MidState VNA & Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450, Alzheimer's Disease Assoc., Inc., 2911 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06518, or to St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT 06451. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home.

Dorothy J. Berger

WILLIMANTIC -- Dorothy J. Berger, 74, of Willimantic, formerly of Meriden, wife of James F. Berger died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, in Windham.

She was born Nov. 7, 1928, in Meriden, daughter of the late Albert and Malvina (Morin) Athorne and had lived in Meriden over 50 years before moving to the Windham area 20 years ago. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for many years at the Record-Journal.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, Alison Berger of Groton, Alan "Al" Berger of Canterbury, Geraldine Haines of Putnam, Elizabeth "Betty" Hockla of Willington and Gail Wilson of Vernon; two brothers and a sister, Gerald, Robert and Pearl; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a gathering at the funeral home Saturday at 9:15 a.m. prior to the procession to her funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Willimantic. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic, CT 06226.

Joanne Borona

MERIDEN -- Joanne Nancy Borona, 56, of Petit Drive, loving wife of John Borona passed on to Heaven on Friday, May 16, at Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center in Wallingford.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 22, at 1:30 p.m. at the South Trinity United Methodist Church, 145 Main St., South Meriden. A reception will follow the service.

Jane Sokop

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Jane Maloney Sokop, 88, of Pittsfield, Mass., died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at her home after a short illness.

Born in Troy, Aug. 28, 1914, the daughter of John and Margaret Gilligan Mahoney, she was graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy and the Troy Business School. Primarily a homemaker, she had been employed at the Watervliet Arsenal prior to her marriage. From 1966 to 1970, she was employed at Berkshire Community College as Secretary of the Dean of Administration. Mrs. Sokop was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Parish and did volunteer work there. She enjoyed knitting and crafts, and loved being with her family and friends.

Mrs. Sokop leaves her husband, Henry G. Sokop, with whom she would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on June 26. She also leaves three sons, Lawrence H. Sokop of Holyoke, Mass., Gerard J. Sokop of Hatfield, Mass., and Thomas G. Sokop of Pittsfield, Mass.; two daughters, Patricia J. Babineau of Meriden and Margaret M. Winslow of Dalton, Mass.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Peter J. Sokop, who died Feb. 3, 1999.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sokop will be held Saturday, June 21, at 8:15 a.m. from Dery-Foley Funeral Home, Dalton, Mass., followed by a Liturgy of Christian burial at 9 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, celebrated by Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Sokop may be made to the American heart Association or to St. Francis Xavier Parish, c/o Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 East Main St., Dalton, Mass.

Charles P. Tosney

WALLINGFORD -- Charles P. "Scotty" Tosney, 82, of Laurelview Park, Wallingford, beloved husband of Catherine Farrell Tosney, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at The Regency House in Wallingford.

Born in Dundee, Scotland, Feb. 17, 1921, a son of the late John J. and Margaret Gowens Tosney, he had been a Wallingford resident since 1957. He had been employed by CYTEC, in Wallingford, for several years until his retirement. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Pinta Council No. 5 of Wallingford, where he had served as treasurer for many years. He also was one of the founding fathers of the Wallingford Youth Soccer League. He was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford. He spent many years taking care of his loving wife of 67 years.

Besides his wife, Catherine, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Nancy Tosney of Wallingford; his grandchildren, Shannon Lyn Tosney and Christopher Tosney; his sister and brother-in-law, Sadie and Patrick Perrie of Scotland; his two brothers, James Tosney of Dundee Scotland and Benjamin Tosney of North Hampton, England; his brother-in-law, David McFalls of Scotland; his sister-in-law, Rena Farrell Kumnick of Wallingford; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Christopher and Isa Farrell of Scotland; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John "Jackie" and Shirley Farrell of New Zealand; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Katherine Tosney Miles and Hannah Tosney Barkley; his brother, John Dennis Tosney; his brother-in-law, Robert Kumnick; and his sister-in-law, Margaret "Patsy" McFalls.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Noon. Interment will be in the In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford.

Jeannie Wilkins

BODIEGA BAY, Calif. -- Jeannie Watson Wilkins passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2003, at her home.

Born in Wallingford, daughter of the late Joseph and Bessie Crawford Watson, she was educated in the local schools and trained at the Meriden Hospital. She became a Laboratory Technician and worked for many years at the Griffin Hospital in Derby.

Jeannie is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Silas Donald Williams and his wife, Rosa of Honduras and David Allen Williams and his wife, Carolyn of Bodega Bay, Calif.; two sisters, Laurel Blood of Meriden and Mary Williams of Wallingford; also several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Andrew Clifford Wilkins; a daughter, Linda Jean Williams; and a sister, Bessie Kastukevich.

Funeral services were held in California. A memorial service will be held at the Yalesville Methodist Church on July 20, at 1 p.m.

Wesley N. Beebe

CHESHIRE -- Wesley N. Beebe, 76, of 228 Peck Lane, died Monday, June 16, 2003 in Waterbury. He was the husband of Lucy (Carpentino) Beebe.

Born in West Haven, Sept. 28, 1926, a son of the late William and Julia (Vidar) Beebe he lived in West Haven for most of his life, coming to Cheshire in 1985. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Beebe retired in 1988 as a carpenter, installing and refurbishing blackboards and corkboards for area schools, institutions and factories. He was a communicant of St. Bridget's Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Wesley N. Beebe of Wallingford; a daughter, Lesley Jean Testa of Woodbridge; two step-sons, Ernest J. Linsley of Arizona and Richard A. Linsley of West Haven; two step-daughters, Barbara Jean Mitchell and Mary Anna Mancino, both of Cheshire; a brother, William Beebe of Branford; two sisters, Ethel Marshall of Pennsylvania and Esther Grass of Wallingford; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral leaves Thursday at 10:15 a.m. from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 South Main St., Cheshire to St. Bridget's Church for Mass at 11 a.m. Burial in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Brian D. Bushnell

SOUTHINGTON -- Brian D. Bushnell, 49, formerly of Southington, died Friday, June 6, 2003 in Florida.

Born in Meriden, the son of Robert C. and Virginia (Dutton) Bushnell of Southington. Brian was a licensed funeral director in Vermont and Florida, he also worked in Southington at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, several years ago. He was a former co-owner of the Pearsons & Bushnell Funeral Home, in Lynndonville, Vt., and also former owner of the Finnigans Pub in Burlington, Vt.

In addition to his parents of Southington, he is survived by a sister, Brenda Baran of Plantsville; a brother, Robert C. Bushnell Jr. of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, at 1 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 to 1 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the Hospice of Central CT, 205 West Main St. New Britain, CT 06052.

Judith Ann Curran

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- Judith Ann (Cielakiewicz) Curran, 62, of Delray Beach, Fla., formerly of Meriden passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2003.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas; a son, Scott; daughters, April McTier and Amy Duffy; five grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Stopa.

Lorne & Sons Funeral Home of Delray Beach, Fla., has charge of arrangements.

James F. Fullerton

YORK BEACH, Maine -- James F. Fullerton, 55, of York Beach died Monday, June 16, 2003 in York. Formerly of Medford, Mass., Stoneham, Mass., and Southington. He was the beloved husband of Nancy (Linden) Fullerton.

Devoted father of Michael Fullerton and his wife, Laura of Alexandria, Va., Kerri Fullerton of York Beach, Maine and Peter Fullerton of York Beach, Maine; beloved son of Walter and Mary (Holland) Fullerton of Stoneham, Mass.; loving brother of Patricia Curtis of North Reading, Mass., Margaret Brandt of York, Maine and Robert Fullerton of Wilmington Mass. He was predeceased by a brother, John Fullerton of Stoneham, Mass.

A funeral Mass will be held in St. Christopher Church in York, Maine on Friday, June 20, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York, Maine on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the York Hospital Building Fund, Development Office, 15 Hospital Drive, York, Maine 03909.
