Lillian Houde
MERIDEN -- Lillian Houde, 89, of 320 Colony St., died Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the wife of the late Robert Houde.
Born in Meriden on Jan. 9, 1914, she was the daughter of the late William and Louise Steudtner Gass. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She is survived by a brother-in-law, Earl Bushnell of Meriden; and two nieces, Diane Hoff of Meriden and Geri Kniskern of New York. She was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Goss Bushnell.
A memorial service will be held Monday, March 31, at 1 p.m. at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Perry L. Beaver will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Millicent A. Tuttle
BREWSTER, Mass. -- Millicent A. Worth Tuttle, 80, of Orleans Rd., Brewster, Mass., wife of the late William O. Tuttle, died March 28, 2003.
She was born Aug. 14, 1922, in Presque Isle, Maine, a daughter of the late Stanley and Agnes Hanning Worth. She was retired from the Pratt & Whitney Co., where she had worked as a machine operator. Millicent enjoyed camping, square dancing and ceramics.
She was the mother of Donald Parks of Southington, Theresa Currey of E. Harwich, Mass., and Rowena Gatta of Branford; sister of Muriel Wakem of Milton, Fla. and the late Grace Kennard, Eugene Worth and Horace Worth; also survived by eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 12:00 noon in the First Congregational Church of Branford. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, Branford. Friends may call at the Curtis-Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 69 S. Main St., Branford, Monday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Brianna C. Ward
NEW BRITAIN -- Brianna Clara-Catrice Ward, 10, of Roberts Street, died Thursday, March 27th at the New Britain General Hospital.
She was born June 17, 1992, in Farmington the second of five daughters to Kerry and Theresa (Brantley) Ward. Miss Ward was a 5th grade student at Holmes Elementary School in New Britain and a member of the Faith Living Church in Plantsville.
Besides her parents, she is survived by four sisters, Samarra, Sabrina, Alisha and Adriana Ward, all of new Britain; god-sister, Elaina Miles of New Britain; paternal grandparents, John May and Fannie Ward, both of Southington; maternal grandparents, Eddie and Bennie Brantley of Meriden; two uncles, Raymond and Jonathan Ward, both of Southington; and many aunts, and cousins. She was predeceased by an uncle, Darrell Brantley.
Funeral services will take place, Wednesday, April 2nd at 11 a.m. at the Faith Living Church, 12 Grove Street in Plantsville. Burial to follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery
in Meriden. Family and friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 East Main Street, Meriden is entrusted with arrangements.
Bernard A. Bastura
MIDDLETOWN -- Bernard A. Bastura, 69, died Saturday, March 29th at his home.
He was born in Middletown, the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Kaminski) Bastura. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Standard Knapp. He was also the owner/operator of the Submarine Library & Museum, Middletown.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Rosick of Wallingford. He was predeceased by two sisters, Wanda Rosick and Stella Jarzabek; and five brothers, Joseph, Rudolph, Frank, Felix, and Eugene Bastura.
Funeral services will be private and burial will be at the convenience of the family. The Biega Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
William F. Carlson
MERIDEN -- William F. Carlson, 74, of 47 Centennial Ave., Meriden and 5176 Delbrook Ave., Spring Hill, Florida, beloved husband of Marylou (Siering) Carlson, died on Friday, March 28, 2003, at CT. Hospice in Branford after a brief illness.
Bill was born in New Britain, on Sept. 9, 1928. He was the son of the late John and Gertrude (Wood) Carlson. He had resided in Meriden most of his life. Bill graduated from St. Joseph Parochial School and Meriden High School. Bill was the founder and President of Carlson Fuel Oil and prior to that he was the Service Manager for Pembek Oil Company in Meriden for 25 years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served with the U.S. Army; he was stationed in Munich, Germany. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church all his life. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 683 St. Jude Council in Spring Hill, Fla., the Franco American Club in Meriden and served two terms as President and Vice President of the St. Joseph Home & School Association. Bill was an avid golfer, a N.Y. Yankee and N.Y. Giants fan. Bill and Marylou spent many happy years in their Florida home, surrounded by special friends. They traveled throughout the world.
Besides his best friend and soulmate, Marylou, he is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Ciofalo and her husband, John of Guilford and Sharon Carlson of Cheshire; three sons, Clifford Carlson and his wife, Carol of Meriden, Michael Carlson of Meriden and William Carlson and his wife, Kathleen of Southington. Bill's grandchildren are Melissa (Carlson) and Ted Lunney, Stefany (Carlson) and Steve Mauri, Nicholas and Alyssa Ciofalo, Ryan, Megan and Matthew Carlson, and Jennifer, Michael, Jason and Jamie Carlson. His great-grandchildren are Faith and Rachel Mauri and Cory and Cameron Francour. Bill is survived by his sister, Lorraine Busca of Spring Hill, Fla.; and a brother, Joseph and his wife, Marion Carlson of Portland. Many nieces and nephews also survive him. Bill is predeceased by his brothers, Charles and Robert Carlson, along with his faithful dog, Trisha.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service and Mass of Christian burial to be held on Tuesday, April 1, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main street, and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Meriden. Burial will be with military honors at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday , March 31, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill's memory may be made to St. Joseph School, 159 West Main St., Meriden, CT 06451.
Don L. Dutil
MERIDEN -- Don L. (Bugs) Dutil, 66, died on Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Gaylord Hospital suddenly.
Born in Meriden on Nov. 10, 1936, he was the son of the late Leon and Caroline (Hull) Dutil. He had resided in Meriden most of his life and graduated from Meriden High School. Mr. Dutil retired two years ago from Quail Hollow of Plainville, and was presently employed by Fazzino Auto Parts of Meriden. He was a peacetime veteran having served with the U.S. Marines. He was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church, and belonged to the American Legion Post #45.
He is survived by two daughters, Tara-Lyn Dutil Mallin of Meriden, Gina Dutil Layman and her husband, Matt Layman of Middlefield; five grandchildren, Joey Mallin, Justin, Jake, Jagur, and Jorn Layman. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia and Bob French of Meriden; one niece and two nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass on Saturday, April 5, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Laurent Church, 121 Camp St., Meriden. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., 300 Research Pkwy., Meriden, CT 06450, or to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Memorial/Honor Program P.O. Hans Van Rooyen
SOUTHINGTON -- Hans Van Rooyen, 66, of 64 Old Turnpike Rd., died Saturday March 29,2003 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He was the Husband of Marie (Lasek) Van Rooyen.
Hans was born in Den Hague, Netherlands on April 14, 1936 and was the son of the late Johannes and Erna (Van Rhijn) Van Rooyen. He retired from the travel industry and was self-employed . He was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus in New York and was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.
Besides his wife he is survived by a brother in Massachusetts; and three sisters; and a brother in Holland; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, John Lasek of Florida and Jim Lasek and his wife, Ellen, along with nephews, Matthew and Michael Lasek, all of Southington.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 2, at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. to St. Thomas Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl. Memphis, TN 38105.

Wilfred H. Macomber
WALLINGFORD -- Wilfred H. Macomber, 80, of 344 Washington Street, died Saturday, March, 29, 2003 at the Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden. He was the husband of the late Phyllis E. Brown Macomber.
He was born in Bridgewater, Mass., February 9, 1923 a son of the late Harry and Leona Smith Macomber. He was a peacetime veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force. Until his retirement, he was a tool inspector at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Yalesville and Shaw-Sinon American Legion Post #73 in Wallingford.
He is survived by two sons, Grant Macomber and his wife, Donna and Stephen Macomber and his wife, Ellen, both of Wallingford; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Walter Estes of Wallingford and Leona and Christopher Adams of West Hartford; a brother, Harold Macomber of Milford, Mass.; brother-in-law, Gordon Brown of Cambridge, Mass.; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Harry Macomber and Kenneth Macomber; and two sisters, Leona Galligan and Phyllis Brown.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 26 Parker Farms Road, Yalesville. Burial with military honors will be in Center Street Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the B.C.
