Ruth S. Dunne

MERIDEN -- Ruth Shirley Dunne, 88, formerly of Sachem Circle, died peacefully Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at the Curtis Home. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas M. Dunne.

Born in Springfield, Mass., on Dec. 27, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Dora Smith Blackadar. She graduated from Meriden High School and was a graduate of the Teachers College of Connecticut. She was a member of the St. Andrews Episcopal Church, serving many years on the Altar Guild and the Vestry. She was also a Sunday school teacher and member of the Episcopal Church Women. She served on the board of the YWCA and was a longtime volunteer at the Soup Kitchen in Meriden. She was employed as a secretary for the State of Connecticut at the Wilcox Technical School.

She is survived by two cousins, Shirley Colletti and Muriel Williams, both of Fairfield; and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews by marriage.

The funeral will held Saturday, March 15, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. The Rev. Jane White-Hassler will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Contributions in Mrs. Dunne's name can be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 20 Catlin St., Meriden, CT 06450 or to the Curtis Home, 380 Crown St., Meriden, CT 06450. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, CT.

Evelyn Kish

ORANGE -- Evelyn Kish, 79, of Chester St., Orange, died Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the wife of John L. Kish.

She was born June 13, 1923 in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of the late Frank and Marion (Pachin) Palmer.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, John F. Kish of Derby.

There are no calling hours, burial will be at the convenience of the family. Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden has been entrusted with arrangements.

Blanche E. Levangie

HUDSON, N.H. -- Blanche E Levangie 95, formerly of Aldrich Road, Portsmouth passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson.

Born in Brookline, Mass., Nov. 5,1907, she was the daughter of John and Nancy (Ettinger) Knowles. The widow of Francis G. Levangie who died in 1976, she is survived by her children, Patricia Houston of Londonderry, N.H.; Marie LaRose and her husband, Marcel of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Francis G Levangie of Venice, Calif.; grandchildren, Lisa Schott and her husband, Eric; William, John, Michael and Matthew Lonergan; many great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ruby Knowles; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel at Calvary Cemetery, Greenland Road (Route 33,) Portsmouth, N.H. Arrangements by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, N.H.

Anthony C. Papallo

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. -- Anthony C. Papallo, 91, formerly of Meriden died at Heartland in Zephyrhills, Fla. Mr. Papallo made his home in Florida for many years. He was the son of the late Ferdinand and Guiditta Severino Papallo. Mr. Papallo was employed by the State of Connecticut as a supervisor at the Merritt and Wilbur Cross Parkway. He served his country in World War II in Scotland, North Africa and Italy.

He is survived by a brother, George; and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph , Christopher and Nicholas.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Whitfield Funeral Home, Zephyrhills, Fla.

Grethe Zbinden

DANBURY -- Grethe Andersen Zbinden, 75, of Lee Ave., Danbury, died unexpectedly at her home on Friday, Jan. 10, 2003.

She was born July 4, 1927, in Copehagen, Denmark and moved to the United States at an young age. Grethe married Harry Zbinden Sept. 8, 1951 in New Jersey, where they lived until the late 1970's when they moved to Ridgefield. She was employed by the Gilbert and Bennett Mfg. Co., in Georgetown in various positions until her retirement in 1995. In their youth Grethe and Harry enjoyed fishing and motorcycling. She also loved to cook and was and excellent gourmet cook and being true to her generous nature, she would make sure that she would send you home with an ample amount of her delicious cooking when you visited for dinner. She was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Danbury and served with the Altar Guild for many years.

Grethe is survived by her husband, Harry. She was predeceased by her son, Hans.

A service took place on Monday, March 10. Burial will take place in the spring. At Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Danbury. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden was in charge of arrangements.

Michael Horniak

WALLINGFORD -- Michael Horniak, 81, formerly of Judd Square, Wallingford, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Louisa, Va. He was the beloved husband of the late Lucy Lachowicz Horniak.

Mr. Horniak was born in United, Pa., on Aug. 15, 1921, a son of the late Peter and Mary Domaskiewicz Horniak. He was a Polish Army veteran, having served in World War II. Mr. Horniak moved to Wallingford in 1958, where he was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Church and a member of the Polish National Alliance, Group 513. He currently resided in Louisa Va., with his son and daughter-in-law. He had been employed as a steelworker by the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation until his retirement in 1984.

Mr. Horniak is survived by his three sons and three daughters-in-law, Joseph M. and Edith Horniak of Wallingford, John W. and Debra Horniak of Louisa, Va., and Stanley P. and Carol Horniak of Wallingford; his seven grandchildren, Jason Horniak, Kristopher Horniak, William Horniak, Michelle Horniak, Stephanie Horniak, Laura Horniak and Jodi Horniak; and his great-granddaughter, Brooke Horniak. He was predeceased by his sister, Mrs. Mary (John) Czaja; and his two brothers, Nicholas Horniak and John Horniak.

Mr. Horniak's family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Sunday, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday from the Wallingford Funeral Home at 9 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to SS. Peter and Paul Church in Wallingford, where a Mass Of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Wallingford. Memorial contributions may be sent to, Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, Va. 22911.

Dwayne E. Smoot-Jones

MERIDEN -- Dwayne E. Smoot-Jones, 46, of Westfield Road, Meriden died at home on Friday, March 7, 2003.

He was born in Springfield, Mass., on May 15, 1956, a son of Jolene Smoot-Jones of Las Vegas, Nev., he was a quiet man with a heart as big as the world. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam.

He is survived by several close friends, his roommate, Siobhan Leavy of Meriden and Harry Brynant of Middletown.

A graveside service will take place on Friday at 10 a.m. in the State Veteran's Cemetery Bow Lane, Middletown, with the Rev. Judy Moss of Apostolic Community of Jesus and Ministries, Meriden officiating. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Jeanine P. Wilderman

MERIDEN -- Jeanine P. Wilderman, 66, of 60 Hanover St., Meriden left this world on Monday, March 10, 2003 at home to return with her husband and four children in heaven who parished in a house fire on Christmas morning.

She was born June 22, 1936 in Van Buren, Maine to Rella (Saucier) Bouchard-Bernier and the late Ernest Bouchard. She was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church of Meriden.

In addition to her mother is survived by a brother, Gerard Bouchard of Port St. Lucy, Fla.; and several close dear friends, Rodney and Shirley Bouchard of South Meriden and Gilman and Rose Bouchard of Wolcott; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Ernest; her husband, Clifford Green Jr.; her two sons, Clifford III and Craig Green; and two daughters, Elizabeth and Lisa Green.

Calling hours will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, March 15 from 9 to 10 a.m. the funeral cortege will then leave for Mount Olivet Cemetery in Watertown, where Jeanine will be put to rest next to her beloved family. In lieu of flowers, it's asked that donations in her family's memory be made in care of Bridgeport Hospital, c/o Burn Unit, 267 Grant St., Bridgeport, CT 06610. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Mary C. Wileski

MERIDEN -- Mary Catherine Wileski, 95, formerly of 80 Silver St., died Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at Miller Memorial Community in Meriden.

Born June 1, 1907 in Meriden, she was the daughter of the late Stanislaus and Catherine Wileski. A lifelong resident of Meriden, she attended local schools and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and a member of its Ladies Guild. Miss Wileski was employed by the Travelers Insurance Company of Hartford, for 50 years and retired as Director of Personnel.

She leaves a nephew, Paul DeBartolo of Niantic. A brother, Edward Wileski; and a sister, Sally W. DeBartolo predeceased her.

The funeral of Mary Catherine Wileski will be held Saturday, March 15, at 10:30 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
