Robert A. Corradino

NEWINGTON -- Robert A. Corradino, 80, of 87 Southwood Rd., Newington, formerly of Meriden, husband of Mary Jones Corradino, died Friday evening, March 7, 2003, at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Rocky Hill, on Sept. 8, 1922, he had resided in Meriden for most of his life prior to moving to Newington two years ago. He attended local Meriden schools and was employed by International Silver Co. for some 35 years. Mr. Corradino was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres of operation. He was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church, Meriden, where he was an usher for the Saturday afternoon Mass.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Michael Ronalter of Newington, Lynn and Thomas Anderson of Newington, and Mary Lou Corradino of New York City; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas Corradino and his wife, Doreen Canzanella of Bethany and James Corradino of Newington; two grandchildren, Gabrielle Corradino and John Ronalter; three sisters, Mary Niezgorski of Wallingford, Rita Burgess of Durham and Betty Errico of West Haven; two brothers, Nicholas Corradino of Wallingford and Orlando Corradino of Pennsylvania .; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Concetta Fiorella of Southington; and a brother, Louis Corradino of Meriden.

The funeral will be held on Monday, March 10, at 9:45 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden, CT 06450.

David S. Hopkins

WALLINGFORD - David S. Hopkins, 65, husband of Dorothy Rose Hopkins, died Friday unexpectedly at home.

He was born on February 20, 1938, in Meriden, a son of the late Stephen M. and Helen Maillette Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins was a retired police sergeant from the Wallingford Police Department. He was a peacetime veteran, serving for 8 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve Medical Corps. Mr. Hopkins was a member of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, Yalesville, and was very active in church affairs and had served as both senior and junior warden for many years. He was a member of Compass Lodge No. 9 A.F. & A.M. in Wallingford, Scottish Rite Consistory - Valley of Bridgeport; Police Assoc. of CT (PAC); had served many years as a scoutmaster for St. Paul's Episcopal Church Troop 4, B.S.A. In recent years he enjoyed serving as a volunteer camp host at the Allis State Park in Randolph, VT and was employed as office manager for Wallingford Glass and Mirror.

In addition to his wife Dorothy, Mr. Hopkins is survived by three sons, Christopher Hopkins of Torrington, Shawn Hopkins and his wife, Carolyn of Durham and Wayne Hopkins and his wife, Julia of Wallingford, six grandchildren, Jessica Anne, Stephen Jeremy, Kimberly Marie, Sarah Rose, Kayla Elizabeth and Corbin Joseph Hopkins. He was predeceased by a brother, Mark W. Hopkins.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at 11 a.m. at St. John The Evangelist Episcopal Church, 360 Church St., Yalesville. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford. Friends may call at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford on Monday, March 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Boy Scout Service will be held during the calling hours at 6:45 p.m. followed by a Masonic service at 7 p.m. It is suggested that gifts in his memory be sent to the Hopkins Altar Fund C/O St. John The Evangelist Episcopal Church, 360 Church St., Yalesville, CT 06492.

Robert S. Blake

FALMOUTH, Maine - Robert Stanley Blake, of Falmouth, Maine, died unexpectedly Wednesday night at Maine Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

A son of Arthur P. and Huldah K. Blake, he was one of 16 children born in Falmouth, Maine. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II when he received a number of decorations for his bravery and wartime heroics. In 1946 he received an honorable discharge and later enlisted the National Guard. He retired from Hannaford Bros. Co., after 40+ years of dedicated service. Robert had many accomplishments in his life, but his love of life, his sense of humor, his sharp wit, his devotion to his family and his never ending helping hand to friends and neighbors were his philosophy. Robert and Dorothy lived in South Portland, Maine for 23 years before moving to Falmouth, Maine where they built their dream home on their family land.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Dorothy. Locally he is survived by his youngest daughter, Judith A. and her husband, Thomas M. Mosier, Sr. and their children Thomas M. Mosier, Jr. and Sarah B. Mosier, all of Meriden, Thomas Blake, Ronald Blake, Robert Blake and Linda O'Carroll, all of Maine; and 11 additional grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a very large extended family.

In memory of Robert, his family is establishing a park to be located on his treasured land in Falmouth, Maine. In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to the Blake Memorial Land Trust, P.O. Box 6102, Falmouth, Maine 04105. Internment to follow at a later date.

Leland S. Dow

MERIDEN -- Leland Stewart Dow, 80, of 274 Glen Hills Road, died Sunday, March 9 at MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Joyce Moore Dow.

He was born in Patton, Maine, Jan. 9, 1923, son of the late Harley and Vera Dow. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Hunt, in the Pacific during World War II. Mr. Dow was employed at Pratt & Whitney in North Haven until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the the A.M.V.E.T.S. Post #83, in Wallingford. He was also a member of the South Meriden Trinity United Methodist Church.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Sally Dow of Meriden; three brothers, Arnold Dow of Virginia, Harley Dow of Maryland, and George Dow of Meriden; three sisters, Lois Golas of Biddeford, Maine, Ann Cote of Saco, Maine, and Janie Borge; two step-sisters, Lois Golas of Biddeford, Maine, Ann Cote of Saco, Maine, and Janie Borge; two stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Perreault of Meriden and Daniel and Kathleen Perreault of Middletown; and a great-stepgrandson, Jared Perreult of Middletown. He was predeceased by two brothers, Carrol Dow and Ledreau Dow.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, with Rev. Susan DeSousa officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to the South Meriden United Methodist Church, 145 Main St., South Meriden, CT 06450.

Patrick J. Foley

MERIDEN -- Patrick Jerome Foley, "PJ", 3, entered into heaven in the presence of his parents at the Children's Medical Center of Hartford on Friday, March 7, 2003.

Patrick is the son of Christopher and Jennifer Foley of Meriden. Besides his parents, Patrick is survived by his grandparents, Kathryn Foley of Meriden, Jerome Foley of Wallingford and Elaine Howe of California. Patrick has two great-grandmothers, Grace Foley of Fall River, Mass., and Shirley Powell of Manchester. Uncle and aunt, Rod and Carol Foley DuBois of Wallingford and Aunt Crystal Howe of New Britain. Patrick also has his cousins, Michael, Samantha and Gracey Dubois. Patrick has lots of great aunts, great uncles and cousins that will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his sister, Meghan Elaine.

Patrick's family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday, March 9, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, 68 North Colony Road, Wallingford, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the Foley Family, 47 Butternut Lane Meriden, CT 06450, or The Histocytosis Association of America, 72 East Holly Avenue, Suite 101, Pitman, NJ 08071.

Theresa R. Jobbagy

WALLINGFORD -- Theresa R. Powers Jobbagy, 74, of Long Hill Road, died Saturday, March 8, 2003 at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the beloved wife of Lester J. Jobbagy.

Mrs. Jobbagy was born in Bound Brook, N.J. December 9, 1928 and had been a Wallingford resident for the past 61 years. She had devoted her life to her husband, children and grandchildren. A devout Roman Catholic, she was a founding parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection.

Besides her husband she is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda J. and Walter Layman of Cheshire, Patricia J. and Kenneth M. Cooley of Wallingford, and Tina M. and Stephen M. Jakab of Trumbull; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard D. and Nancy A. Jobbagy of Southington; eight grandchildren, Michael and Katie Layman, Melanie and Douglas Jobbagy, Jason and Christina Cooley, Kelly Angelone, and Matthew Jakab; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth Powers Tooke and Wells Tooke of Oneida, N.Y.; and several nieces and Nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Josephine Lana Powers Zupko; her father, George Powers; and her brother George Powers.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. Wallingford, Tuesday from 4 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday from The Wallingford Funeral at 10 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to The Church of the Resurrection where a Mass of Christian burial will be Celebrated at 11a.m. Interment will be St. John Cemetery. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash Street, East Hartford CT. 06108-3272.

Brenda J. Johnson

WATERBURY -- Brenda J. Johnson, 59, of 302 Edgewood Ave. died Sunday March 9, 2003 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the wife of Ronald M. Johnson.

Born January 5, 1944 in Staceyville, Maine, daughter of the late Nathaniel and Bertha (Dudley) Gerald. She had been employed by North American Philip/Airpax of Cheshire for 24 years.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Delores Adams and her husband, Ross of Meriden, James Emery and his wife ,Bonnie of Southington; two brothers, Albert Gerald of Michigan and Melvin Gerald of Maine; a sister, Norma Esposito of Arkansas; a granddaughter Lisa Adams; five grandsons, Donald Szamier III, Gregory Adams, Matthew Emery, Patrick Emery and Nathan Emery; several nieces; and nephews.

The funeral will be held Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Robert C. Self Sr.

WALLINGFORD - Robert Craig Self, Sr., 83, owner of Fieldstone Dairy Farm, of 63 Grieb Road died Sunday, March 9, 2003 at the MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of Janet Magee Self.

He was born in Meriden, March 18, 1919 a son of the late Walter James and Bessie McMahon Self. Mr. Self was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School, class of 1936 and was a lifelong resident of Wallingford. He was a 2nd generation dairy farmer, who took over running the farm at the age of 13. As a well- known dairy farmer, many of the towns youth began their working careers on the farm over the years. He was a member of the CT Farm Bureau, former chairman of the New Haven County Soil Conservation Committee, member of the CT Dairy Herd Improvement Assoc. and the Eastern Breeders. Mr. Self was a fan of the UConn Women's Basketball team, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He was always accompanied by his canine companions Spike and Blackie.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Craig Self and his wife, Barbara of Wallingford; a daughter, Shirley Self Lagerstrom and her husband, Lee of Wallingford; four grandchildren, Sandra Lagerstrom, Laurel Lagerstrom Suchecki, Dante JC Self Bartolomeo and Elizabeth Mercedes Self; and two great-grandchildren, Riley and Cameron Bartolomeo. He was predeceased by a brother, Bertram Self; and a sister, Ada Self Germain.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. If friends so desire, gifts in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450-1004.

Pauline Steele

SEYMOUR -- Pauline Smey Steele, 85, who was residing at Masonic Home, Wallingford, formerly of Derby Avenue, Seymour for 65 years, entered into peaceful rest, March 7, 2003, at the Masonic Home. Mrs. Steele was born in Derby, Nov. 11, 1917, daughter of the late Nicholas and Sophia (Telep) Smey. She was a retired sales clerk for many years at both former Woolworth Department Store, Derby, and also Reads Department Store, Bridgeport. Pauline was a communicant of St. Peter and St. Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ansonia. She loved gardening and her cats.

Pauline leaves her loving family, including one daughter, Sandra Parsons, and her husband, William of Meriden; two granddaughters, Julie Gillett of Farmington and Susan Parsons-Lopez of Houston, Texas ; also four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her brothers, William, Peter, and John Smey; and sisters, Ann Pupchik, Mildred VanDeest, Mary Kuzma, Helen Francik, and Judith Apster, predeceased her.

Funeral services will be held, Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. Interment will be in S.S. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial gifts may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care, 33 North Plains Industrial Rd., Wallingford, CT 06492.
