William C. Ludemann Sr., USN (Ret.)
MERIDEN -- William C. Ludemann, Sr., 76, of Chatham Drive, South Meriden, beloved husband of Mildred Savage Ludemann, died Sunday, March 2, 2003 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New York, New York, June 13, 1926, a son of the late Charles A. and Mary V. Barnes Ludemann, he had been a Wallingford resident for several years until moving to South Meriden in 1971. Mr. Ludemann served with the US Navy as a Medic for 24 years. He served during World War II, the Korean War and the VietNam War. He served aboard the USS Manchester, the USS St. Paul, the USS Massey and had been stationed with the Fleet Marine Force at Camp LeJeune, NC and also had been stationed at the Fleet Reserve Training Center in New London. Following his naval career he was employed by the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections as a Medic for 17 years until his retirement. He was a life member of the VFW Stanley Budleski Post No 9965 of the Yalesville section of Wallingford, the American Legion Post No. 73 of Wallingford, the Antique Veteran's World Post No 1 of Meriden the Sampson World War II Veterans Association of New York the Fleet Reserve Association and The Knights of Columbus in Meriden. He was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church in South Meriden.
Besides his wife Mildred, he is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Irene J. Ludemann of Southington, Helen and Alan Lange of New Britain, and Rose Anne and Gary McMorran of Meriden; his five sons and three daughters-in-law William C. Ludemann Jr. and Elvira Ludemann of Mentor, OH, Michael J. Ludemann, Sr. of South Meriden and his daughter-in-law, Linda Ludemann of Meriden, Bruce A. and Mary Joy Ludemann of Holly Springs, NC, Thomas E. Ludemann of Meriden and Joseph P. and Holly Ludemann of Meriden; his 13 grandchildren, Jean Day and her husband, Dean, Bradley Ludemann, Michael J. Ludemann, Jr., Katie Lynn Ludemann, Amy Jo Cochran, Adrianne Lange, Timothy Lange, Stefan Ludemann, Daniel Riberio, Megan McMorran, Erin McMorran, Joseph K. Ludemann and William K. Ludemann; his sister Elaine Jacobs of Springfield MA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Grace Bravy and three brothers, George, Russell and Charles Ludemann.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Holy Angels Church in South Meriden where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery
in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice.
Mr. Ludemann's great sense of humor will be missed by all his family and friends. His family would also like to extend their thanks to the MidState Cancer Center and Can-Care of Wallingford for their care and support.
Athena I. Petersimes
DURHAM -- Athena I. Petersimes, 27, of Canterbury Drive, died unexpectedly, Friday, February 28, 2003, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident.
Born in St. Mary's, Ohio, March 21, 1975, she had been a Wallingford and Durham resident for many years. She was a graduate of Mark T. Sheehan High School in 1993 and was employed as a private duty Patient Care Technician for several years.
She is survived by her father, Richard Petersimes and his wife, Heidi Brown Petersimes of Wallingford; her mother, Armetha Bell of Virginia Beach, Va.; her son, Zachary L. O'Neil and her fiancée Richard W. O'Neil, Jr. both of Durham; her sister, Marcella Skipper of Virginia Beach, Va.; her brothers, Richard D. Petersimes of Virginia Beach, Va., Stephen Petersimes of Chattanooga, Tenn., Justin Petersimes and Tyler Petersimes both of Wallingford; her paternal grandmother, Waneta Wolfe of St. Mary's, Ohio; and her maternal step grandmother, Anna Brown of Naples, Fla., and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday, from 3 to 6:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Wallingford Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dean O. Warburton, Pastor of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford, officiating at 7 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Zachary L. Robert J. Picard
WALLINGFORD -- Robert J. Picard, 72, beloved husband of Grace Ryan Picard, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 1, 2003, at MidState Medical Center.
Born in Meriden, April 7, 1930, he was the son of the late Nellie Kusha and Joseph Picard, Sr. He graduated from Wilcox Technical School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired in 1992 from New Departure Hyatt in Bristol. He was a longtime resident of Wallingford. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
Besides his wife, Robert is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Jeffrey Cleaves of Canton, Karen and Scott Condo of Madison; five grandchildren, Justin, Ryan and Collin Cleaves, Allison and Scott Condo; a brother, Joseph Picard, Jr. of Auburndale, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Elaine Yaross.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 5, at 9:30 from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Meriden. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. John A. Gilmartin
MERIDEN -- John Arthur (Jack) Gilmartin died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born on July 3, 1919, he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy L. Gilmartin, whom he was married to for 61 years. He was the son of the late Alvina Desaulniers Gilmartin and John Michael Gilmartin.
He was a lifelong resident of Meriden and a parishioner of St. Joseph Church. He was a graduate of St. Joseph School, Meriden High School and Rider College. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was president of Gilmartin Motor Sales until his retirement in 1981. He was also a past president of the Meriden Kiwanis Club, past president of the Automobile Dealers Association of Meriden, past member of the Parish Council of St. Joseph Church and a longtime member of the Wallingford Country Club.
He is survived by daughters, Gail G. Godbout and husband, Thomas of Cheshire and Sharon G. Kofsuske and husband, Peter of Durham; eight grandchildren, Stacey Wright Roberts, Wendy Wright Richards, Richard L. Wright III, J. Michael Wright, Elizabeth Kofsuske Norwell, Kyle Kofsuske, Thomas Godbout and Joseph Godbout; and seven great-grandchildren; he is also survived by a brother, Robert Gilmartin and wife, Helen Lynch Gilmartin.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Thursday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Joseph School, 159 West Main St., Meriden, CT 06451. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
Jerome S. Panella
SOUTHINGTON -- Jerome Salvatore Panella, 80, of 161 DeFashion St., Plantsville section, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Madeline (Annunziata) Panella.
Born in Southington on Sept. 9, 1922, the son of the late Jerome and Rose (Angelillo) Panella. Mr. Panella served his country during World War II with the U.S Coast Guard, in both the Pacific and European campaigns. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He had served aboard the USS Alacrity and USS Cavalier. Prior to his retirement in 1988, he was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Southington for 33 years. He was a parishioner of St. Aloysius Church, a member of the American Legion Kiltonic Post No. 72, the D.A.V., and he was a member of the Red Onion Gang.
He is survived by his loving children, Geraldine Weber and her husband, Robert of South Meriden, Jerome Panella and his wife, Diane of Plainville, Frank Panella and his wife, MaryJane of Plymouth, four sisters, Julia DiMichele, Alice Pelcher, Rosemarie Panella, Annamae Verderame and her husband, Francis, all of Southington; his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremy and Nicholas Panella, step grandchildren, Lisa Martin, Lori Dobensky and Kevin Weber and a great-grandson, Jeffrey Dobensky, all of Meriden; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a treasured granddaughter, Gina Rynaski; a sister, Teresa Panella; and brothers John, Donald and Francis Panella.
The funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, to St. Aloysius Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Donna M. Peczynski
SPRINGHILL, La. -- Donna Marie Ruch Peczynski, 46, died suddenly Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, in Springfield, Mo.
Mrs. Peczynski was born Aug. 22, 1956, in Festus, Mo., to William and Betty Ruch Sr. She was formerly of Festus, Mo., a resident of Springhill, La., for 15 years and a resident of Ledbetter, Ky., for the past five years, a member of the United Pentecostal Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Peczynski of Ledbetter, Ky.; a son, David Siebert Jr. and wife, Angel of Clinton, III.; four brothers, Bill Ruch and wife, Audrey of Minden, La., Steven Ruch and wife, Martha of Macedonia, Ark., Tim Ruch and wife, Patsy of Springhill, La.; Tracy Ruch of Arlington, Texas ; mother and father, Betty and Bill Ruch Sr. of Springhill, La.; two grandchildren, David Joseph and Taylor Catherine Siebert.
Funeral services for Mrs. Peczynski were held Saturday, March 1, in the United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Bass officiating. Burial was in Spring Branch Cemetery
under the direction of Bailey Mortuary Springhill, La.
Pallbearers were: Tim Ruch, Bill Ruch Jr., Jeff Thebeau, Steve Ruch, Tracy Ruch and David Siebert. Honorary pallbearers were: Jim Birkner and Eddie Hooker.
Mary M. Romano
WEST HAVEN -- Mary M. "Mema" Romano, wife of the late John P. Romano Sr. of 200 Oak St., West Haven, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Branford.
She was the mother of Leslie Ann "Hessi" Duane, John P. "Jay" Romano Jr. and Michael Romano; sister of Thomas Lynch; and grandmother of nine. She was predeceased by her sisters, Eulla White, Frances Stamatien and Bertha Dolceaqua; her brothers, William, Bernard, Arthur, Leslie, Morgan and William Lynch II.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. John Vianney Church, West Haven, Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment will be private and there will be no calling hours. Donations may be made in her name to Conn. Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. Oak Grove Cremation Service is in care of arrangements.
Robert C. Alston
MERIDEN -- Robert C. Alston Sr., 74, husband of Louise (Marion) Alston of Meriden died Sunday, March 2, 2003 at the MidState Medical Center. He was the son of the late Vernon and Frances Dought Alston.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at All Saints Church, 201 West Main St., Meriden. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. at the church. Burial, immediately following Church services, will be in the Connecticut Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. After military honors, the family will return to All Saints Church to receive relatives and friends. Frederick R. Burkhardt
SOUTHINGTON -- Frederick R. Burkhardt, 79, of 812 Savage St., died Sunday, March 2, 2003 at Bradley Memorial Hospital.
Born in Southington of March 30, 1923, the son of the late Frederick and Emily (Detels) Burkhardt. Frederick was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Prior to his retirement he was a school teacher in the Farmington School System, Mr. Burkhardt was chairman of World Languages, he developed an outstanding program at Farmington High School, he was also an outstanding Leader in the USA for the reform of how foreign languages should be taught.
He is survived by his sister, Dolores Burkhardt of Southington.
The Funeral will be held on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 232 Bristol St. Burial will be with military honors in Hillside Cemetery
in Cheshire. Calling hours will be on Thursday at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to First Lutheran Church, 232 Bristol St., Southington, CT 06489.
