Joseph Romana
SOUTHINGTON -- Joseph Romana, 82, of 160 Mariondale Drive, Plantsville section, formerly of Plainville, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003 at West Haven Veteran's Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Southington on March 10, 1920, the son of the late Joseph and Veranna (Rossa) Romana. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in the 169th Infantry, serving in the Pacific Islands for which he received a Purple Heart.
He is survived by his sister, Annie Romana of Southington; and his longtime friends and caregivers, Rocco Gemani and Sandra Brunoli.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery
at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington.
John W. Swabski
MERIDEN -- John W. Swabski, 72, died on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at Meriden Center after a short illness.
Born on Sept. 9, 1930 in Meriden, Mr. Swabski was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Moskel Swabski. He was a lifelong Meriden resident. He was employed at Meriden-Wallingford Society for the Handicapped. He was a former parishioner of St. Nicholas Church.
He is survived by two brothers, Frank Swabski and Raymond Swabski, both of Meriden; an aunt, Anne Cherniack of Southington; and an uncle, Stephen Moskel of Meriden; he is also survived by several cousins and caregivers, Piotr and Roma Kurkowski of Meriden.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 9:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery
at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.
Kathleen M. Toth
WALLINGFORD -- Kathleen M. Mayer Toth, 42, of South Broad St., Wallingford, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003 at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the beloved wife of John R. Toth.
Born in Bridgeport, April 22, 1960, a daughter of the late John and Mary Plude Mayer, she was raised in Bridgeport and had lived in New Haven before moving to Wallingford. She had been a Certified Nurses Aide and was employed at the Brook Hollow Health Care Center in Wallingford.
Besides her husband John, she is survived by her three daughters, Krystal Yagovane, Amber Yagovane and Ilona Toth, all of Wallingford; her three sons, Keith Yagovane and Jonathan Yagovane, both of Wallingford and Robert John Donn, USAF, stationed in Saudi Arabia; her brother, Kenneth Mayer of Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the Wallingford Funeral Home with Pastor Eugene Brunson of the Wayfaring Ministry in Hamden officiating. Interment will be in the In Memoriam Cemetery

Josephine Altobello
MERIDEN -- Josephine "Sis" Altobello, 89, wife of the late former State Senator and Mayor of Meriden Henry D. Altobello, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Meriden on March 12, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary LaMontagne. She had resided in Meriden most of her life except for 17 years in Southwick, Mass., and had attended St. Rose of Lima School and was a graduate of Pequot Business School. She was a parishioner of Holy Angels Parish and a member of the following: Young at Heart, past President of Meriden Women's Club, past President of Mount Carmel School PTA, past President Meriden Council of Catholic Women, Advisor to the Senior Women's Club, Tri-town Golden Kiwanis Club, Friends of Meiden Library. She was also active in the Meriden and Connecticut Democratic party, past President of Meriden Music Association and the past President of the Girls Club Board.
She is survived by four daughters and one son-in-law, Lourde and George Gronback of Meriden, Henrietta Suzio of Meriden, Patricia Altobello of Washington , DC and Suzanne Altobello of Dallas, Texas ; one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel J. and Maureen Altobello of Potomac, Md.; nine grandchildren, Cheryl Suzio, Linda Suzio Munson, Leonardo H. Suzio, Henry "Ric" Suzio, Scott Suzio, Pamela Gronback, Patricia Gronback, Mark Altobello and David Altobello; 14 great-grandchildren; also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a grandson, Steven Suzio; and a son-in-law, Leonardo C. Suzio.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Monday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Church, Main St., South Meriden. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden on Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Angelo Cirasuolo
HAMDEN -- Angelo Cirasuolo, husband of 68 years to the late Rose Funaro Cirasuolo, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at the Harborside Healthcare Arden House, Hamden, after a short illness.
Mrs. Cirasuolo was born in Ferrara di Cervinara, Province of Avellino, Italy, on July 26, 1906, the son of the late Giuseppe and Maddelena DeSimone Cirasuolo. In 1920, he immigrated to the United States and lived in New Haven for 80 years, 74 of them at 35 Philip St. He worked as a machinist and a stock room foreman at the former Griest Manufacturing Company (Mite Corporation) for 48 years.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Joseph J. Cirasuolo, retired superintendent of the Wallingford Public Schools and his wife, Sheila of Wallingford; he leaves two grandsons, David Cirasuolo and his wife, Alexandria of New York City and Stephen Cirasuolo of Boston, Mass.; a devoted sister-in-law, Margaret Cataldo of Hamden; a devoted brother-in-law, Nicholas Sorvillo of New Haven; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:45 a.m. from the Torello-Iacobucci Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. in St. Aedan Church, New Haven. Entombment will follow in St. Lawrence Garden Mausoleum, West Haven. Barbara A. Hammond
MERIDEN -- Barbara Ann Schultz Hammond, 62, of Hicks Avenue, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at her residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Percy E. Hammond.
Born in Meriden, Oct. 14, 1940, a daughter of the late Albert J. and Barbara E. Steiniger Schultz, she had been a Wallingford resident until moving to Meriden 25 years ago. She had been employed as a laboratory technician at the former Meriden-Wallingford Hospital for many years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville and was a member and past president of the Nutmeg State Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
She is survived by her two brothers and her sister-in-law, Martin R. and Jane Schultz of North Branford and John F. Schultz of Wallingford; seven stepchildren; many stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Wallingford, Monday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment in the State Veterans Cemetery

Harry A. Jacunski
WALLINGFORD -- Harry A. Jacunski, 87, died on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003. He was the beloved husband of the late Anna (Juzwik) Jacunski and the late Grace (Lewis) Jacunski.
Born in New Britain, he lived in North Haven most of his life. Harry graduated from New Britain High School, class of 1934, where he was an all-state center on both the football and basketball teams. Harry went on to Fordham University, where he played end as one of their Seven Blocks of Granite. After graduation in 1939, he played with the Green Bay Packers for six seasons and was on their 1939 and 1944 championship teams. Harry then served on the coaching staffs of Notre Dame and Harvard before joining the coaching staff at Yale. After 18 years as assistant varsity coach he became the head coach of the Yale freshman team for 15 years, retiring in 1980. Among many honors, he was inducted into the Halls of Fame of the Green Bay Packers and Fordham University. He received the prestigious Gold Key Award from the Connecticut Sportswriters Alliance. Also, the New Haven Gridiron Club presents the annual Harry Jacunski Award to the New Haven area's most valuable college football player. In the business world, Harry owned and operated the Calendars and Specialties Advertising Company, North Haven, for more than 35 years.
Survivors include his twins sons, Richard R. Jacunski and his wife, Joyce of Brooklyn, N.Y., Robert R. Jacunski and his wife, Wilma of Wallingford; two daughters, Carol and her husband, Dr. Russell Fiore of Exeter, N. H., Margaret Monaco and her husband, Robert of Norristown, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his sister, Helen and her husband, William Biskupiak of Manahawkin, N.J.; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Annalee Jacunski and his brother, John Jacunski.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Monday, at 11 a.m., at Most Holy Trinity Church, 68 North Colony Road, Wallingford. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m., at Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain. Jeanne M. Martino-Noster
WETHERSFIELD -- Jeanne M. Martino-Noster, 67, died peacefully on Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Nashua, N.H., on March 16, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Laura (Duchesneau) Michaud. She lived in the area most of her life and retired in 1996 from Aetna Life & Casualty Insurance Co. Jeanne was a member of the Wethersfield AARP, Wethersfield Seniors and was a communicant of the Church of the Incarnation, Wethersfield. She was the wife of the late Thaddeus Noster.
She loved being with her family and will be sadly missed by her three sons, Michael J. Martino of Gilbert, Ariz., Robert J. Martino, Esq. and his wife, Carolyn of Glastonbury and Richard J. Martino and his wife, Marlena of Plantation, Fla.; two daughters, Lisa J. LaPoint and her husband, Thomas of Southington and Lora M. Sawicki and her husband, Scott of Meriden; a loving and devoted sister, Doris Gagnon and brother, Joseph R. Gagnon, both of Wethersfield. Jeanne was affectionately known as Memere by her 12 grandchildren; and her great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her dear and longtime friend, Barbara Wood of Wethersfield; and several cousins.
Funeral service will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, Wethersfield. Burial in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Virginia E. Morin
MERIDEN -- Virginia E. (Sindone) Morin, 86, formerly of Glen Hills Road, Meriden, wife of the late Arthur P. Morin Jr., died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at the Westfield Care & Rehabilitation Center in Meriden.
Born in Meriden on Jan. 28, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Katherine (Barrillo) Sindone and was a lifelong resident of Meriden. Before retiring in 1982, Virginia was employed as an office clerk for International Silver Co., formerly of Meriden.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Arthur P. and Virginia (Formica) Morin III of Portland; one daughter, Kay Bartalotta of Meriden; four grandchildren, Matthew Morin, Ann Morin, Lisa Morin, Kate Bartalotta, and Nicholas Bartalotta; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Samuel Sindone; and four sisters, Helen Sindone, Mary Gervais, Genevieve Morin and Frances Sindone.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St., Portland, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Mary, 51 Freestone Ave., Portland. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions in Virginia's memory may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
