Julia T. Adamowicz
SOUTHINGTON -- Julia Theresa Adamowicz, 82, of 470 Hobart St., died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at home, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Edward W. Adamowicz for 55 years.
Born in Cromwell on Jan. 4, 1921, Julia was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Suszy) Garboski. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Allied Control Co. in Plantsville. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and a member of the Immaculata Women's Club and the Rosary Society. Julia was an avid baker and made many people happy with her delicious creations, especially her blueberry and strawberry-rhubarb pies. She was a member of the Southington YMCA and an honored member of the YMCA 80-Plus Club.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her loving children, Susan M. Adamowicz of Southington, Edward F. Adamowicz of Rockvale, Tenn., and James E. Adamowicz and his wife, Janet of Plantsville; five cherished grandchildren, Scott, Kevin and Julia of Rockvale, Tenn., and Robin and Daniel of Plantsville; also a brother, George Garboski of Middletown, two sisters, Theresa Dolecki of Southington and Caroline Piantek of Rockfall; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, Stephen and Joseph Garboski.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 8:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, to Immaculate Conception Church at 9 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. The family would like to express their appreciation to Julia's caregiver, Stanistawa Jaworska. Her special and loving care did not go unnoticed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Julia's memory to the Hospice of Central CT, P.O. Box 1327, New Britain, CT 06505.
Anthony J. Antonucci
WALLINGFORD -- Anthony J. Antonucci, 81, formerly of Simpson Ave., Wallingford, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, in New York, where he resided with his nephews' family, Larry Zolnik, his wife Patricia and their children Michael, Christy and Leslie.
He was the son of the late Alessandro and Aninna (DeNino) Antonucci and was born in Wallingford on Feb. 3, 1922. Except for service in the U.S. Navy, he resided in Wallingford all of his life until moving to New York last year. During his service years, from 1942 until 1945, he served aboard and was a plankowner of the light cruiser USS Denver (CL58), where he attained the rate of Gunner's Mate 3rd Class. While assigned to the USS Denver, he participated in the bombardment of Japanese strongholds in the Pacific and took part in the battles of Bougainville, Iwo Jima, Leyte and Surigao Strait, as well as operations in the Lingayen Gulf for which he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with two stars and the American Theatre and Victory Ribbons. Following his military service, he returned to Wallingford where he was employed as a machinist at several factories until he became a bartender 30 years ago. From then on, he worked at several restaurants, most recently at Georges II in Wallingford until only one year ago. A bachelor for most of his life, his true loves were his military service to our country, fresh and salt water fishing, and his dog, Jenny.
Besides his nephew's family, he is survived by a daughter, Barbara Gordon, of Middlefield; two sisters, Dorothy Muli and Mary Zolnik, both of Meriden; and two nieces, Ann Elionfante of Meriden and Lorinda Larsen of Newtown and their families.
His family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. Military graveside services will be held Friday, at 12 p.m. at Saint John Cemetery. Elizabeth C. Berry
WALLINGFORD -- Elizabeth C. "Betty" Deaz Berry, 56, of East Side Drive, Wallingford, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was the beloved wife of Paul F. Berry.
Born in New Haven, Sept. 28, 1946, a daughter of the late Americo and Catherine Barrett Deaz, she was raised in North Haven and was a graduate of North Haven High School. She had been a Wallingford resident for the past 28 years. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" Berry of Willimantic and Debra A. Berry of Wallingford; her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Nora Deaz of Wallingford; and four nieces.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery

Gladys H. Heil
SOUTHINGTON -- Gladys Helma Heil, 82, of Pleasant St., Southington, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at the Summit at Plantsville following a short illness. She was the wife of the late Edward Heil.
Born in New York City, Oct. 29, 1920, daughter of the late Lawrence and Emily Beran Helma, she had been a Southington resident since 1955. Mrs. Heil worked at the former Ford Instrument Company in New York during World War II and then in the Steel Strapping Division of Stanley Works in New Britain. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Southington.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Nancy Heil of Southington; three grandchildren, Elisabeth Heil and Kimberly and Kevin Bleau; and one great-grandson, Ryan Bleau. She was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Schtulman.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Donations in memory of Gladys may be made to the Southington YMCA, 29 High St., Southington, CT 06489. Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville, is handling the arrangements.
Belle Y. Hubelbank
NEW HAVEN -- Belle Y. Hubelbank passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003.
She was born in Novogrudok, Russia, Sept. 10, 1902, formerly of West Palm Beach, Fla., and New Haven. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry D. Hubelbank; son, Sherman H. Hubelbank of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Middletown, N.J.; a daughter, Estelle H. Kessler of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Massapequa, L.I., N.Y.; also a brother, Arthur Yaffe of Bridgeport; and a sister, Rebecca (Betty) Lurie of New Haven. Survivors include a daughter, Miriam (Mimi) Bloch and her husband, Beryl of Wallingford; grandsons, Jay Hubelbank and his wife, Laurie of Washington and their children, Jenna and Emily, Glenn Hubelbank and his wife, Donna of Wellington, Fla., and their children, Ryan and Mara, Scott Hubelbank of Bricktown, N.J., David Kessler and his wife, Linda of Melville and their children, Andrew and Eric of New York, Harry Padroff and his fiance, Jennifer Henrickson-Hogan of Hamden, Douglas Padroff and his wife, Kimberly of Southington and their children, Kayla and Jack and Michael DeSanti of Wallingford; granddaughters, Marcia Hubelbank and her partner, Jill Good of Jamaica Plains, Mass., Sherie Goldstein and her husband, Jeffrey of Shelton and their children, Jamie and Zachary, Jeanne Koth of Sherman Oaks, Calif., and her children, Justin and Rachel; also survived by many nephews and nieces. She was a life member of Hadassah, A'mit Women and a member of the Independent Vilner Lodge. In addition she was very active in young Israel Synagogue when she resided in New Haven.
Funeral services in the Robert E. Shure Funeral Home, 543 George St., New Haven, Thursday at 10 a.m. with interment services to follow in the IND. Vilner Lodge Cemetery, Jewell St., New Haven. Jonathan B. Meigs
MERIDEN -- Jonathan Brian Meigs, 54, of 40 Oxbow Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at the MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of Alice Hyatt Meigs.
Born in Meriden on March 12, 1948, he was the son of the late Carlton and Barbara Perham Meigs. He was a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University and received a master's degree from Central Connecticut State University. He was employed by the Meriden Board of Education as a fourth-grade teacher at John Barry School and participated in numerous community and school activities.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a stepdaughter and her fiance', Susan E. Barton and John Salka of Wallingford; two stepsons and their wives, James B. and Erin Barton of Meriden and Thomas M. and Lori Barton of Meriden; a sister and her husband, Deborah and Jerry Gunn of Newburg, Maine; two grandchildren, Emily S. Barton and William E. Barton, both of Meriden; two uncles, Richard L. Perham of Meriden and William Perham of Chicago; a niece, Caitlyn Gunn of Newburg, Maine; and a nephew, Joshua Gunn, also of Newburg, Maine; also survived by T. Scott Harris of Meriden and Andrew Harris of Maine.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 20 Catlin St., Meriden. The Rev. Robert Stocksdale will officiate. Relatives and friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Mary H. Mueller
MERIDEN -- Mary H. Mueller, 97, wife of the late Harry M. Mueller, formerly of 80 Morton Road, Meriden, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the Middlesex Hospital.
Born in Meriden on July 7, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Ross and Mary Lenz Hyde. She had resided in Meriden all of her life, and attended the local schools. Mrs. Mueller was employed by Meriden Wallingford Hospital as a switchboard operator retiring in 1985. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church and was a member of St. Elizabeth's Society.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Judith Murphy of South Meriden; one son, Mr. Harry M. Mueller Jr. of Harwinton; three grandchildren, Harry Mueller III, Mrs. Jonathan (Katherine) Behm and Mrs. Frederick (Carolyn) Norman; seven great-grandchildren, Hannah, Leah and Sarah Mueller, Julia and Christopher Behm and Spencer and Victoria Norman. She was predeceased by three sisters; and two brothers.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 9:45 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Church. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery

Joseph Pendleton
WALLINGFORD -- Joseph Pendleton, of 40 Morningside Terrace, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at the MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of Hope Hale Pendleton.
He was born in Islesboro, Maine, a son of the late Edward and Bertha Dodge Pendleton. Mr. Pendleton was a veteran of World War II and a Pearl Harbor survivor, serving in the U.S. Army. He had been a self-employed painting contractor. He had started the former Pendleton Band in Maine before moving to Wallingford in 1950.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Lila Thayer of Bangor, Maine; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ivan Pendleton and Edward Pendleton.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford. Frank J. Soldan
WALLINGFORD -- Former Wallingford Superintendent of Schools Frank J. Soldan, 75, beloved husband of Dolores Kowalczyk Soldan, of North Elm St., Wallingford, died unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at their home.
Born in Hamden, May 6, 1927, son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Racz Soldan, he had been a Wallingford resident for the past 50 years. He was a graduate of Hamden High School and Central Connecticut State University and had done post graduate work at the University of Connecticut. He was an Eagle Scout, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Polish National Alliance, Group 513.
An educator and administrator for the Wallingford Board of Education for many years, he had been principal of Yalesville School, Parker Farms School and Cook Hill School. He had served as Wallingford superintendent of schools until his retirement in 1987. He had previously served as assistant superintendent of schools in Wallingford. He was a member of the Connecticut Association of Superintendents of Schools, the Wallingford Education Association, the Connecticut Education Association and the National Education Association.
Besides his wife, Dolores, he is survived by his daughter, Diane Elizabeth Soldan of Uncasville; his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen F. and Donna Soldan of West Newfield, Maine; two grandchildren, Sabrina Soldan and Stephen Soldan; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan Catherine Soldan; and his brother, George Soldan.
His family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Friday, from 4 until 8 p.m. Funeral services and interment in SS.
