Dorothy Hajnal
WALLINGFORD -- Dorothy Hems Hajnal, 81, of Danny's Way, Wallingford, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at the Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford, She was the wife of the late John R. Hajnal Jr.
Born in Meriden, May 7, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Mary E. Simpson Hems and had been a lifelong Wallingford resident. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church and a Past President of the Ladies Guild of the parish.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy M. Hajnal of Wallingford; her two sons, Charles A. Hajnal of Old Saybrook and Robert A. Hajnal of Wallingford; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, John R. Hajnal III; two sisters, Gladys Matton and Edna Fleischauer; and five brothers, James, Albert, Robert, George and Francis Hems.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery
in Wallingford.
Alan M. Hekking
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Alan Marteen Hekking of Gainesville, Fla., died Monday at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 80.
Mr. Hekking was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and came here from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in 1982. He was a chemist, chaplain and educator. He was a graduate of Florida State University and the University of South Carolina. He also did doctoral work at the University of South Carolina. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps pilot during World War II and the Korean War. He received the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and the EAME Campaign Medal. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, Fla., Gideons International, and was on the board of directors for the House of Hope and Hospice of North Central Florida. He was volunteer chaplain with the Alachua County Drug Center and founder of the Radiological Society of Connecticut. He was Alachua County Hospice Volunteer of the Year in 1989. He was a former professor at Southern Connecticut State College and Tunxis Community College, and he taught at West Haven High School in Connecticut, St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and the P.K. Yonge Laboratory School of the University of Florida, Hawthorne High School and Buchholz High School in Gainesville, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Hekking of Gainesville, Fla.; a daughter, Lana Kay Myers of Naples, Fla.; sons Michael Vance Epting of Wallingford, Conn., and Kenneth Mark Hekking of Gainesville, Fla.; and four grandchildren. Antonina Kisiel
MERIDEN -- Antonina Kisiel 83, of Marlson Road, Meriden, wife of the late Josefa Kisiel, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, with her family by her side.
She was born Feb. 19, 1919, in eastern Poland, to the late Bronislaw and Josefa Kapuscinski. She was parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church.
She is survived by two sons, Michael and Christine Kisiek of Wallingford and Henry and Lisa Kisiek of Branford; two loving sisters, Jadwiga Galka of Meriden and Leontyna Opak of New York; two grandchildren, Michelle and her husband, Patrick Roche of Massachusetts and Sherri Mengual of Meriden; one great-grandchild, Bethany Roche. In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by a sister, Maria Zawalich.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, Feb. 14, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church 82 Akron St., Meriden, with the Rev. Edmond S. Nadolny officiating. Burial to follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, that donations in Antonina's memory be made to the Meriden VNA and Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden 06450 for the great care and support given to Antonina. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 East Main St., Meriden, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Leon F. Krupa
MERIDEN -- Leon F. Krupa, 93, formerly of North Colony Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at the Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Born April 3, 1909, in Meriden, he was the son of the late John and Caroline Jedzynak Krupa. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and was self-employed.
Mr. Krupa leaves a brother, Henry Krupa of Meriden; four sisters, Mildred Markiewicz of Blairsville, Ga., Lucy Nursick of Meriden, Florence Nursick of Portland and Ceil Docar of Southington; and many nieces and nephews. Several brothers and sisters predeceased him.
The funeral of Mr. Krupa will be held Friday, Feb. 14, at 9:30 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9 to 9:30 a.m.
Lucian J. Labieniec
SOUTHINGTON -- Lucian J. Labieniec, 83, of 57 Birchcrest Drive, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at home. He was the husband of Anna (Bak) Labieniec.
Born in New Britain on Jan. 7, 1920, he was the son of the late John and Sophie (Suprynowicz) Labieniec. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Since 1958, he has been a Southington resident and a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church. He was employed as the director of operations at Aerocess Inc. in Wallingford, was formerly employed by Brophy Metal Products and had retired from Pratt & Whitney, where he worked for more than 30 years. He was also a member of the Falcons Club, Calendar House and the AARP.
Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth and his wife, Laurie Labieniec of Bristol, William and his wife, (Laura) Labieniec of East Haddam; a brother, John Labieniec of Meriden; three sisters, Mary Kiejko of Enfield, Helen Corrigan of Atlanta, Ga., and Ceal DiFrancisco of Plainville; five grandchildren, Joseph, Daniel, Sarah, Jill and Nathan Lebieniec; and a great granddaughter, Dominique. He was predeceased by a sister, Jane Parsons; and brothers, Stanley, Edward and Henry Lebieniec.
Funeral will be Saturday 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 North Main St., Southington to Immaculate Conception Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Dina Raffaeta
MERIDEN -- Dina Mallegni Raffaeta, 95, of Broad St., Meriden, formerly of Franklin St., Wallingford, beloved wife of the late Serafino Raffaeta, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at the Miller Memorial Community in Meriden.
Born in Camaiore, Italy, June 10, 1907, a daughter of the late Lorenzo and Argia Boggi Mallegni, she had been a Wallingford resident for more than 80 years. She was parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church and a charter member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Society of the parish.
She is survived by her son, the Rev. George J. Raffaeta, of Wallingford; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four sisters, Angelina Mallegni, Pearl Mallegni, Blanche Gemignani and Julia Bandecchi; and a brother Michael Mallegni.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery
in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to Most Holy Trinity Church, 68 North Colony Street, Wallingford, CT 06492.
Thomas R. Anderson
NAUGATUCK -- Thomas Richard Anderson, 48, of Naugatuck and formerly of Wallingford and Colchester died on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003 at the Veteran's Hospital in West Haven following complications due to a liver transplant.
Born Dec. 7, 1954 in Moline, Ill., he was a son of Richard and Shirley (Secky) Anderson. Thomas attended school in Wallingford and enjoyed reading and computer work. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Anderson worked as a Chef for many restaurants in Florida and Connecticut.
Including his parents, he is survived by his companion with whom he resided, Dee Croce of Naugatuck; two brothers, James and wife, Diane Anderson of South Windsor and Jeffery Anderson of Uncasville; a niece, Benae Anderson of Manchester; a nephew, Eric Anderson of Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. A calling hour will be held one hour prior to the service. Matthew L. Bravo
WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Matthew L. Bravo, 30, of 1805 Alice Ave., died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at his home.
He was born in Portsmith, Va., March 23, 1972, a son of Andrew Bravo of Wallingford and Barbara Jackson Lawrence of Winter Springs, Fla. Andrew was self-employed contractor.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Stephanie Hohenstein of Mildenhall A.F.B., England, Margaret Merrill of Ramstein A.F.B., Germany and Kelly Bravo of Wallingford; a step-brother, John Adams of Wallingford; and a step-sister, Kate Adams of Wallingford; his paternal grandmother, Mary Louise Bean of Guilford; and his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Katherine Jackson of Hamden; he is also survived by his maternal aunts and uncles, Douglas and Mary Jackson of Oxford and Cynthia and William Taft of East Haven; and his paternal aunts and uncles, Lucy Bravo and George Bravo of Guilford, David Bravo of New Haven, Louise Bravo of Bethany and Mary Laura Bravo of Chicago, Ill.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 65 North Main St., Wallingford. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St, Wallingford is in charge of arrangements.
Pablo Carballo
MERIDEN -- Pablo Carballo, 79, of 55 Willow St., Meriden died on Friday, Feb. 7, 2003.
Born in Dorado, Puerto Rico on March 22, 1923. He was the son of Julia Carballo and Candido Miranda. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army and received a honorable discharge in November of 1946. He was a member of the American Legion, where he had many friends. He also resided in the Meriden Housing Authority building where many kind and caring people also befriended him.
He is survived by one daughter, Julia Carballo of Meriden; and one son, Paul Carballo of Meriden.
Funeral and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours and the arrangements will be held under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
