Anita Sitnitsky
WALLINGFORD -- Anita Sitnitsky, 79, wife of the late Harold Sitnitsky died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 at the MidState Medical Center.
She was born in West Haven, June 12, 1923, a daughter of the late Jake and Minerva Cutler Chernoff.
Mrs. Sitnitsky is survived by a son, Glenn Sitnitsky and a daughter, Jenine Sitnitsky, both of Wallingford. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Chernoff; and a sister, Marion Goldin.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Beth Israel Cemetery, Dudley St., Wallingford. There are no calling hours. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford is in charge of arrangements.
William W. Smith
MERIDEN -- William Warren Smith, 54, husband of Iris B. Smith died at MidState Medical Center on Monday, Feb. 10, 2003. Bill and Iris were married 33 years and each viewed the other as their true soul mates.
Bill was born in Hartford on Aug. 17, 1948, son of the late Margaret L. and Herbert K. Smith of East Granby. Bill was a resident of East Granby for 20 years and Meriden for over 30 years. He was employed by the State Department of Transportation for over 26 years, enjoying the challenge of a good snow storm. Bill was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Vietnam War. Bill was an avid ballroom dance enthusiast, where many great friendships were formed. He will always be remembered for his love of animals and nature, especially the cat rescues, swimming with sharks and petting bumblebees. Other enjoyments include, the yearly bonfire, summer picnics using the secret family recipe for BBQ ribs, matching wits with the Jeopardy players (and winning,) and juggling with is favorite nephew. Bill and Iris always enjoyed adventurous traveling including viewing polar bears, climbing the Great Wall of China and stepping over a column of army ants. He was a life well lived. Bill's many friends and family (two legged and four legged) will miss him. "Take your truck and make a pass."
Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Susanne (Bunny) Whalen of Meriden; two brothers, Robert D. Smith of Beacon Falls and Herbert (Terry) Smith of Suffield; beloved uncle of his two nieces, Erin M. Whalen of Meriden and Jacqueline Smith of Suffield; a nephew, Devin Smith of Suffield; and a special aunt, Lucy Bordanaro of Wethersfield.
Friends and relatives may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rose Hope Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 34, Meriden, CT 06451.
Mary Sward
SOUTHINGTON -- Mary Calabro Sward, 79, of Hilltop Drive, Southington died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She was the beloved wife for 51 years of George Sward.
Born in Meriden, Aug. 23, 1923, daughter of the late Salvatore and Helena Katsanos Calabro, she had been a Southington resident for the past 30 years. Mary was a homemaker. She love ceramics and in her later years enjoyed playing the slot machines at the Mohegan Sun.
In addition to her husband, George, she leaves a son and daughter-in-law, George and Doreen Sward Jr. of Southington; two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Paul Morin of Southington and Sherri and Jeff Beaulieu of New Hampshire; two brothers, Frank and Salvatore Calabro, both of Meriden; a sister, Elva Hackley of Branford; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four children from a prior marriage, Fred, Roy and Marilyn Crocker and Carol Palumbo.
Funeral services are Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville.
Caroline Antonetti
WEST HAVEN -- Caroline Branchini Antonetti, loving wife of the late Attilio Antonetti of 144 Milton Ave., West Haven, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, in Hamden.
She was a member of the Notre Dame High School Parents Club, 1950-1957 and Brothers of the Holy Cross Auxiliary, 1954-1970.
She was the mother of Robert J. Antonetti Sr. of Prince George's County, Md., Robert P. Antonetti of Meriden, Linda A. Muzio of North Haven and Maria A. McMullian of West Haven; sister of Irma Novak of West Haven and Ruth Branchini of East Haven; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers, Bruno "Jack" Branchini, Emily Spadoni, Emma Delmoro and Ceasar "Charlie" Branchini.
The hours for visitation will be Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Victory Church at noon. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Notre Dame High School, 24 Ricardo St., West Haven, CT 06516.
Carolyn M. Bush
WALLINGFORD -- Carolyn M. Johnson Bush, 69, of Mariot Circle, Wallingford, beloved wife of Chauncey L. Bush Jr., died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.
Born in Springfield, Mass., Dec. 18, 1933, a daughter of the late Harold E. Johnson Sr. and the late Margaret Lewis Johnson, she had been a Wallingford resident for more than 40 years.
Besides her husband, Chauncey, she is survived by her daughter, Pamela E. Vanaman of Durham; her two sons and daughter-in-law, Tracy P. Bush of Vernon and Terry E. and Barbara J. Bush of Fishers, Ind.; five grandchildren; her brother, Harold E. Johnson Jr. of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial services, Thursday, Feb. 13, in the First Congregational Church of Wallingford, 23 South Main St., at 11 a.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery

Henry E. Schneider
MERIDEN -- Henry Ernest Schneider, 78, of 30 Fremont St., and husband of Ethel Schock Schneider died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at MidState Medical Center.
Born June 11, 1924 in Meriden, he was the son the late Henry and Florence Nash Schneider. A lifelong resident of Meriden, he had been employed for many years at Chandler Evans, then AGC, until his retirement.
Besides his wife of 59 years, he leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth (Schneider) Lazor and James Lazor of Meriden; two sons, George Henry Schneider and his wife, Kathy of Wolcott and Warren Scales of Meriden; five grandchildren, Susan March of Old Town, Maine, Sandra Lazor of Meriden, Cindy Nevers of Wallingford, George Schneider Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., and Kimberly Schneider of Jacksonville, Fla.; he is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Nicole and Corey Nevers of Wallingford and Jonathan, Emily and Dillion Schneider of Jacksonville, Fla.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, with Brother Jim Harper of Meriden Christadelphia Ecclesia officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Ethel Zeiner
SOUTHINGTON -- Ethel (Johnson) Zeiner, 83, of 801 Kettle Path died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at home. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Zeiner.
Born on Oct. 14, 1919, the daughter of the late Warner and Agnes Johnson. She was a former resident of Waterbury and Naugatuck. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a secretary for the State of Connecticut. She was a member of the Plantsville Congregational Church.
She is survived by a son, Paul Zeiner and his wife, Janet, of Stratford; a daughter, Judith Pottorff and her husband, Colonel James Pottorff, of Lawrence, Kan.; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 11 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made in her memory to the Plantsville Congregational Church, 99 Church St. Plantsville, CT 06479

Helen Gelt
WALLINGFORD -- Helen Grinewsky Gelt, 77, beloved wife of Frank J. Gelt, of Sylvan Ave., Wallingford, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.
Born in Bridgeport, March 23, 1925, a daughter of the late Alexander and Pauline Grinewsky, she had been a Meriden resident for several years and a Wallingford resident since 1946. She was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church in Meriden.
Besides her husband, Frank, she is survived by two daughters, Frances A. Haury of North Haven and Janet E. Tomlinson of West Haven; five grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Grinewsky and Elizabeth Mozdziak, both of Meriden; a brother, John Grinewsky of Venice, Fla; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Olga Porto and Nellie Adamczyk.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Friday from 10 to 11 a.m., when funeral services will be held in the Wallingford Funeral Home with the Rev Timothy S. Lowe, pastor of SS. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, officiating. Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Cemetery
in Meriden.
