Ethel Zeiner

SOUTHINGTON -- Ethel (Johnson) Zeiner, 83, of 801 Kettle Path, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at home. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Zeiner.

Born on Oct. 14, 1919, the daughter of the late Warner and Agnes Johnson. She was a former resident of Waterbury and Naugatuck. Prior to her retirement she was employed as a Secretary for the State of Connecticut. She was a member of the Plantsville Congregational Church.

She is survived by a son, Paul Zeiner and his wife, Janet of Stratford; a daughter, Judith Pottorff and her husband, Colonel James Pottorff of Kansas; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at a time to be announced by the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made in her memory to the Plantsville Congregational Church, 99 Church St., Plantsville, CT 06479.

Mary J. Johnson

MERIDEN -- Mary J. "Toot" Johnson, 78, of Hobart St., died Friday, Jan. 24, at the Coccomo Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 29, 1924, in Cumberland County, Va. She was the daughter of the late Ruhel and Ada (Sanderson) Johnson. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall Church of South Meriden.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane Crosby of Meriden; six grandchildren, Phyllis, Philip, Dennis, Francis and Robert Crosby, all of Meriden and Denise Drummond of Bloomfield; 19 great-grandchildren; a niece, Mable Harkless of Meriden; a nephew, Alonzo Riddle Sr. of Meriden; and several great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 East Main St., Meriden. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

E. William Fekete Jr.

MERIDEN -- E. William Fekete Jr., 55, of 9 Raymond Road, Meriden, formerly of Wallingford, entered into rest eternal Monday, Jan. 27, 2003. He was the husband of Judith A. Crossley Fekete.

He was a yard foreman at the former Continental Lumber Co. of West Haven. Prior to that, he worked for the former Triangle Pacific Lumber Co. in New Haven. He was a member of the Wallingford T-Bowl League.

He was the father of Dana Longley and husband, Christopher of North Haven and Jackie Hoell and husband, the late Michael of Middletown; son of E. William Fekete Sr. of Wallingford and the late Martha Tanch Fekete; brother of James Fekete of Binghamton, N.Y., Timothy Fekete of Wallingford and Mark Fekete of Danielson and the late Mary Margaret Fekete; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral in Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., Thursday at 10 a.m. Services at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church of Wallingford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial at a later date in Center Street Cemetery, Wallingford.

Shirley Flamer

BRIDGEPORT -- Shirley Siegel Flamer of Bridgeport, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at St. Vincent's Medical Center.

Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Annie Siegel. Mrs. Flamer and her husband, Milton, were the owners of Vienna Baking Co. in Meriden, where they lived for 40 years before retiring. She returned to Bridgeport to be near her family to whom she devoted her entire life. She was a member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom and a life member of Hadassah, as are her daughter and granddaughter.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Milton Flamer; her daughter, Alana Flamer Fodeman and son-in-law, Attorney Alan Fodeman of Fairfield; her grandchildren, Attorney Morris Fodeman and his fiancee, Attorney Farin Chasin of New York; and Cydney Fodeman of Boulder, Colo.; and her great-grandson, Jacob Slack, also of Boulder. She was predeceased by her sister, Lillian Siegel of Fairfield.

The funeral will be held at Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to Hadassah, c/o Bertha White, 156 Ranch Drive, Bridgeport, CT 06606. Shiva will be observed at the home of Alan and Alana Fodeman in Fairfield.

Brenda Marlow

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- A memorial service for Brenda Marlow, 63, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., who died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at home surrounded by her family and friends, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Settle Wilder, New Smyrna Beach Chapel with the Rev. Robert C. Brown, Coronado Community United Methodist Church, New Smyrna Beach, officiating. A memorial service will be held in Connecticut at a future date to be announced by the family.

Born in Milford, Mrs. Marlow moved to Florida in 1991 from Meriden. She was a retired respiratory therapist with the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital in Meriden. Mrs. Marlow was a member of the Smyrna Yacht Club and was active with the Bouchelle Island Homeowners Association. She enjoyed photography, fishing, cooking, boating, floral arranging, but mostly people.

Mrs. Marlow is survived by her son, Billie Jack Hill Jr. of Wassaic, N.Y.; her daughter, Susan Moran and son-in-law, James Moran Jr. of Meriden; her mother, Helen Nicholas of Milford; her two step-grandchildren, Jennifer Maring and James Moran III, both of Meriden; and her faithful friend, Elizabeth. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter W. Marlow; and her sister, Faye Barlow.

The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32119. Settle-Wilder Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 406 S. Orange St., New Smyrna Beach, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn Ryerson

MERIDEN -- Kathryn Goff Ryerson, 83, of 292 Thorpe Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was the wife of the late Thomas A. Ryerson.

Born in South Portland, Maine, on March 17, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Elwood Goff and Beatrice Goff Crandell. She had retired from the Lane Construction Co. and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Meriden.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Wayne M. Ryerson of Provincetown, Mass., and Gerald C. and Diane Ryerson of Sparta, N.J.; five grandchildren, Erik Ryerson and Kristina Ryerson, both of Manchester, Jillian Ryerson, Amanda Ryerson and Whitney Ryerson, all of Sparta, N.J.; one great-grandchild, Shane Ryerson of Manchester and a former daughter-in-law, Lynn Ryerson of Manchester.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 460 Broad St., Meriden. The Rev. Dr. Robert Prescott-Ezickson will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. There are no calling hours. If desired, contributions in Mrs. Ryerson's memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405 or to the Connecticut Baptist home, 292 Thorpe Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.

Patricia J. Beichner

WALLINGFORD -- Patricia J. Chapman Beichner, 68, of Deer Run Road, Wallingford, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was the wife of the late Edward J. Beichner Sr.

Born in Caribou, Maine, Nov. 3, 1934, a daughter of the late Dow and Fannie Wright Chapman, she had been a Wallingford resident for over 40 years. She had been employed by the Wallingford Board of Education in the Cafeteria at Lyman Hall High School for many years until her retirement and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol A. and Raymond M. Konopka Jr. of Meriden; her two sons and daughter-in-law, Edward J. Beichner Jr. and David M. and Maryann Beichner, all of Wallingford; her nine grandchildren, Kevin Konopka, Kelly Konopka, Kyle Konopka, Allison A. Beichner, Douglas R. Beichner, Daniel J. Beichner, Heather M. Beichner, Lisa M. Beichner and Robert Beichner; her four sisters, Mona Belanger, Mavis Byram and Captola Mushrall, all of Maine and Athora Donaldson of Hartford; her four brothers, Richard Chapman, Donald Chapman and Murray Chapman, all of Maine and Gerald Chapman of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Robert A. Beichner; a grandson, David A. Beichner; two sisters, Phyllis Morrell and Willa McClaughlin; and two brothers, Maynard Chapman and Gradon Chapman.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a. m. from the Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 382 Hope Hill Rd., Yalesville, CT 06492.

Ronald E. Brayfield

SOUTHINGTON -- Ronald E. Brayfield, 45, of Kiefer Road, Southington, died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003.

Born in Southington, Jan. 27, 1957, son of Emil and Erika Ruppel Brayfield, he was a lifelong Southington resident. Mr. Brayfield worked at Davenport Associates in Wallingford for over 20 years as a warehouse manager. He was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church. Born and raised in Southington, he attended local schools and was an active member of the Southington Band Backers.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his son and daughter, Zachary and Amanda Brayfield, both of Southington; three brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Kathy Brayfield, Mark and Sharon Brayfield and Gary and Donna Brayfield, all of Southington; his fiance', Rose Zocco and her daughter, Angela of Wallingford; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Southington. Burial will be in South End Cemetery in the spring at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Thursday, Jan. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Zachary and Amanda Brayfield Scholarship Fund, c/o Banknorth, 921 Meriden-Waterbury Road, Plantsville, CT 06479.

Edward J. Goriss

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- Edward J. Goriss, 35, of Pompano Beach, Fla., died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 22, 2003.

Edward was born in Meriden on March 6, 1967 to Leo and Carol (Polvani) Goriss; sister, Lynne (Dave) Cantrell; brother, Jeffrey (Joanna) Goriss; paternal grandfather, Leo Goriss Sr.; nephew, Austin Cantrell; niece, Samantha Cantrell; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Edward's name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation, 3325 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, Fla 33021 or American Diabetes Assoc., 1500 W. Cypress Creek Road, Suite 104 Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. 33309.
