Carol A. Hitlin
MERIDEN -- Carol Ann Hitlin, 55, of 27 Woodmere Knoll, wife of Patrick G. Hitlin, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at her home.
Born Dec. 25, 1947, in Allentown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Beatrice (Arndt) Frey.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Cheryl McGee and son-in-law, Sean, of Austin, TX; a son, Jody Kula and daughter-in-law, Stephanie, of Columbus, OH; a step-daughter, Trisha Hickman of Southbridge, MA; four grandchildren, Kyle and Sarah McGee, and Kristopher and Christen Lesnewski; a brother, Edgar Frey and sister-in-law, Shirley, of Coplay, PA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, with the Rev. Perry L. Beaver, of Immanuel Lutheran Church, officiating. Friends may call prior to the service from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice Inc., 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
Marjorie Menard
SOUTHINGTON -- Marjorie McKay Menard, 71, of South End Road, Southington died Friday, Jan. 24, 2004 at MidState Medical Center. She was the wife of 50 years of Ivan Menard.
Born in Southington, June 3, 1931, the daughter of the late Lester and Gladys Parkin McKay, Marjorie was a lifelong resident.
In addition to her husband, Ivan, she is survived by five sons, Arthur Menard of Vermont, Ivan Menard of Bristol, Gary, Wayne and Ronnie Menard, all of Southington; two daughters, Sandra Snow of Southington and Jean Dorrell of Brookfield; one brother, Raymond McKay of Arkansas; two sisters, Doreathea Dexter and Marilyn Brown, both of Southington; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m. at Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Rose N. Norton
WALLINGFORD -- Rose N. Norton, 84, of Christian St., Wallingford, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at the Skyview Center in Wallingford.
She is survived by her son, Lee C. Norton of Wallingford.
Funeral services and interment will be private. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Wallingford.
Felix G. Swistak
WALLINGFORD -- Felix G. Swistak, 88, of North Colony Road, Wallingford beloved husband of Mary Furman Swistak, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.
Born in Meriden, Feb. 22, 1914, a son of the late Joseph and Catherine Bak Swistak and had been a lifelong resident of Meriden and Wallingford. He was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Church in Wallingford.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn S. and Anthony J. Ferrauola and his son James J. Swistak, all of Wallingford; his three grandchildren, Tammy F., John J. and James A. Ferrauola; his three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Stella Sadlowski: and his brother, Walter Swistak.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial Mass of Christian burial on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 10:30 a.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Church in Wallingford. Interment in St. Stanislaus Cemetery
will be private. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to SS. Peter and Paul Church, 139 No. Orchard St., Wallingford or to St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Akron St., Meriden, CT 06450. Viola C. Sorenson
MERIDEN -- Viola C. Sorenson, 92, of 320 Colony St., died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at The Bradley Home.
Born June 9, 1910, in Meriden, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Bertha Schoenfeld Sorenson. She graduated from Meriden High School and had been employed as a bookkeeper at Greenbacker's Dairy. She was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church.
She is survived by seven nieces and nephews, John Sorenson of Valparaiso, IN, Paul Sorenson of Milford, Edna Sorenson of Newington, David Sorenson of South Windsor, George Sorenson of Arizona, Robert Sorenson of Virginia and Nan Grey of Australia; and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Sorenson of Meriden. She was predeceased by a sister, Adelaide Sorenson, and her three brothers, Alfred Sorenson, Harold Sorenson and Herbert Sorenson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at St. John Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Brinkley and the Rev. Wallace Merdinyan will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. If desired, contributions in Miss Sorenson's memory may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 520 Paddock Ave., Meriden, CT 06450. Lorin K. Crooker
DANBURY -- Lorin K. Crooker, 83, beloved husband of Margaret "Frieda" (Shaker) Crooker, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Mediplex of Danbury.
Larry was born in Meriden and was the son of the late Walter H. and Lydia (Weisbauer) Crooker. Larry worked as a salesman for Star Distributors, New Haven for several years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Larry was also a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Danbury.
In addition to his wife, Frieda, Larry is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Robert Hills of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his extended family, Shaker, Joseph, Jack, Eli, Danny, and Marshall Shaker, Florence Antous, Jenny Matney, and Laurice Shaker.
Funeral rites will be held Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at 1 p.m. from the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury with the Rev. Basil Parent, officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Danbury. Relatives and friends may call at the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, Tuesday, from 12 to 1 p.m. The American Flag will be presented to his wife, Frieda. Serving as pallbearers will be Harold, Edward and Paul Shaker, Robert Hills, Louis Matney and Mark Chory. Memorial donations in Larry's memory may be made to either St. James Episcopal Church, Danbury or St. Ann's Melkite Catholic Church, 181 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury. Charles W. Eden Sr.
SOUTHINGTON -- Charles W. Eden, Sr., 73, of West Main St., in the Plantsville section of Southington died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Shirley Politz Eden.
He was born in Terryville, May 12, 1929, the son of the late Fred and Myrtle Tanner Eden and was a Terryville resident until moving to Southington 35 years ago. Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany and was a retired carpenter. He was also a member of the First Lutheran Church.
In addition to his wife, Shirley, Charles is survived by his daughter, Diana Kareta of Newtown; and his son, Charles Eden Jr. of Southington; one brother, George Eden of Arizona; one sister, Doris Palance of Terryville; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in South End Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bruce D. Erbe
MERIDEN -- Bruce D. Erbe, 57, of Meetinghouse Village, husband of Marie Rice Erbe, died Friday evening, Jan. 24, 2003, at the West Haven VA Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Meriden, March 28, 1945, the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Hennessey) Erbe, he had resided in Meriden his entire life. Mr. Erbe attended local schools and was a 1963 graduate of Maloney High School here in Meriden. Mr. Erbe was the owner and operator of Chas' Place on Broad St. for the past 18 years. He was also involved with a computer electronics business in Middletown in addition to being a national service advisor with The Revere Corp. for many years. Mr. Erbe was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served with the United States Navy. Mr. Erbe was a lifelong member of the VFW, the Franco American Club, and was an avid golfer, and also played on the Revere Corp. Softball Team for many years.
Besides his wife, Marie, he is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Richard Beliveau of Middletown and Kimberly and Stephen Lavoie of Nashua, N.H.; two step-sons, Theodore Antaya of Meriden and Scott Antaya of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one step-daughter, Laura Small and her husband, David of Durham; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Erbe and his wife, Sherry of Ormond Beach, Fla. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews; and an aunt and uncle.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside service with military honors on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the State Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St. on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450.
Alberto Feliciano-Torres
PORTLAND -- Alberto "Bert" Feliciano-Torres, 32, of Main St., formerly of Meriden, died Wednesday, Jan. 22nd.
He was born Feb. 10, 1970, in Manhattan, New York, the son of Antonio Feliciano and the late Rosa Sanchez. He was employed by Stone Container of Portland as a machine operator. He attended O. H. Platt High School.
Besides his father, he is survived by his adopted parents, Avelardo and Ramonita (Chaparro) Torres of Meriden; three brothers, Angel Feliciano, Luis and Jose Torres, all of Meriden; three sisters, Lisette Feliciano-Torres, Eva Collazo and Celina Hernandez, all of Meriden. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Norma Santiago of Portland; and several aunts, uncles; a niece; nephews; and cousins. A sister, Carmen Feliciano predeceased him.
Funeral services and burial will take place in Rincon, Puerto Rico. Family and friends may call at the Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 East Main St., Meriden on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family in Alberto's memory.
