Mildred V. VanPatten
Mildred V. VanPatten, a Norwalk resident, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 at Norwalk Hospital. She was 89.
She died of heart failure, according to her family.
Born April 5, 1911, in Greenwich, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Virginia Mamone Berlingo.
Mrs. VanPatten was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Hubert P. VanPatten of Greenwich; two sons, Philip J. Passero of Norwalk and Marino Passero of New Canaan; a daughter, Marcelene Brabender of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a brother, Arthur Berlingo of Sun City, Fla.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001 at the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave., Norwalk.
Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Greenwich.

Ralph S. Winn
Ralph Steven Winn, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. He was 57.
He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.
Born Feb. 4, 1943, in Stamford, he was a son of the late James and Elizabeth Whitlow Winn.
Mr. Winn attended Union Baptist Church in Stamford. He worked as a technician on various jobs.
He is survived by a daughter, Janet Winn of Stamford; two brothers, James W. Winn and Thomas E. Winn, both of Stamford; a sister, Barbara Schmidt of Stamford; three grandchildren; a niece and four nephews.
Calling hours are 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10 at Downer Funeral Home, 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Fairfield Memorial Park, 230 Oaklawn Ave., Stamford.
Carroll A. Greathouse
Carroll A. Greathouse, a Stamford resident, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001 at the Richard Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. He was 83.
He died of cancer, according to his family.
Born Aug. 29, 1917, in Heaters, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ivan and Virginia Belle Greathouse.
Mr. Greathouse was the owner and president of Baxter Association in Stamford.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion, the Disabled War Veterans and the Navy League. He also was a member of Sons of the American Revolution.
Mr. Greathouse was a member of the Senior Mens Association in Stamford; a charter member of the Landmark Club and past member of Stamford Yacht Club.
In retirement, he worked with the federal government in a program that sent senior executives overseas to help with developing economies, traveling to South America, Russia and the Philippines.
Mr. Greathouse also traveled extensively to aid investors with a group he formed, International Venture Capital Institute.
He is survived by two daughters, Sheila Greathouse and Patricia Greathouse, both of New York City; and a son, Michael Arrese of Coloma, Calif.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen Legge Greathouse.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 16, 2001 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 1200 Shippan Ave., Stamford.
Burial with military honors will take place in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care, 1029 E. Main St., Stamford, CT 06902.
Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, is handling arrangements.
Tomaso D'Amario
Tomaso D'Amario of Toronto died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001 at home. He was 75.
He died of leukemia, according to his family.
Born July 29, 1925, in Settefrati, Italy, he was a son of the late Federico and Pasqua D'Amario.
Mr. D'Amario served in the police department in Milan, Italy, for 15 years before moving to Paris and then to Toronto seven years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Louisa D'Amario of Toronto; four sons, Daniel D'Amario, Enrico D'Amario, Enzo D'Amario and Olivera D'Amario, all of Toronto; three brothers, Romeo D'Amario of New Canaan, Maurizio D'Amario of Toronto and Antonio D'Amario of Paris; and two sisters, Donna Socci and Delphna Cairo, both of Settefrati.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at St. Aloysius Church, Cherry Street, New Canaan.
Michael J. Barron
Michael J. Barron of Stamford died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001 at his home. He was 63.
He died of cancer, according to his family.
Born March 17, 1937, in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland, he was a son of the late Denis and Catherine O'Neill Barron.
A Stamford resident for 46 years, he worked for the city sanitation department for 21 years.
Mr. Barron owned Burns' Tavern in Stamford, which he ran for the past 16 years.
He was a member of St. Gabriel Church in Stamford. He was past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Stamford and a member of the Connecticut State Hurling Team.
Mr. Barron is survived by his wife, Bridie Quinn Barron of Stamford; five daughters, Kathleen Whitehead, Michele Brady and Christine Fay, all of Stamford, Geraldine McDonough of Wilton and Patricia Garst of Ridgefield; a son, Denis J. Barron of Fairfield; three brothers, James Barron of Woodbridge, Va., and Peter Barron and John Barron, both of Ireland; and eight grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sister, Josie Barron.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001 at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.
A funeral procession will leave the home at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, for St. Gabriel Church, 914 Newfield Ave., Stamford, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery
in Darien.

Walter L. Goings Sr.
Walter Lee Goings Sr., a longtime Stamford resident, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001 at his home. He was 88.
Estelle McNeil
Estelle "Tarter" McNeil, a Stamford resident for more than 50 years, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001 at Greenwich Woods Health Care Center in Greenwich. She was 101.
Grace Echeandia
Grace Echeandia, a Stamford resident, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. She was 85.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Sept. 5, 1915, in Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Filomena and Juan Rios.
Mrs. Echeandia lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., for 78 years before moving to Stamford last year. She was employed as a seamstress in New York's garment district for 42 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Women's Garment Association.
She is survived by a son, Jack Hernendez of San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Ann Osa of Stamford; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Angelo Echeandia.
Services will be private.
