Antoinette C. Perry
PLANTSVILLE -- Antoinette C. Perry, 90, of 1261 South Main St., wife of the late Victor E. Perry Sr., died Thursday evening, Jan. 2, 2003, in the Alzheimer Resource Center after an extended illness. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, June 13, 1912, a daughter of the late Francesco and Costanza Sisia Caputo. She was a resident of Meiden for thirty years having moved to Plantsville within the past few years. She had lived for many years in Orange and Hamden. She had in her early years worked in sales with various retail stores. She was a parishioner of St. Mary Church, a member of the parish St. Elizabeth Society. She was also a member of the Columbian Women. She was active in her community, volunteering for several years with the soup kitchen. Also participating in local political campaigns. She was an excellent cook taking great pride in entertaining her family's many friends. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Anna P. and Joseph Neumon, and Virginia E. Chirsky all of Meriden, one son and daughter-in-law, Victor and June Perry Jr., of Vernon, nine grandchildren, John and Benjamin Neumon, Teresa Chirsky Bird, Matthew Chirsky, Michael, Frank, Charles, Angela and Victor E. Perry III. Also four great-grandchildren, Timothy, Michael, Ariel and Spencer Perry. One brother, John Caputo, of Long Island. Several nieces and nephews. She was one of 10 children, she has been predeceased by sisters and brothers Filomena, Rose, Amelia, Grace, Nicholas, Rocco, Pasquale and Helen. Her funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, beginning with a gathering at 10:15 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., with her Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary Church. She will be entombed in the mausoleum of Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Edward F. Tencza
MERIDEN -- Edward F. Tencza, 85, husband of Helen Zygmont Tencza of Westfield Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003 at the Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Meriden, Nov. 5, 1917, the son of the late John and Pauline Zapal Tencza, Edward was a life long resident of Meriden; he was educated in local schools and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. Mr. Tencza was a World War II veteran serving in the Army from 1941 to 1945 in the European Theater. He was employed by International Silver Company for 44 years retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Polish Knights of the Blessed Virgin.
Besides his wife, he leaves four sons: Eugene Tencza of Orange, MA, Daniel Tencza of Greenfield, MA, Raymond Tencza of New Castle, CO and Theodore Tencza of Mitla, Mexico; two brothers: John Tencza and Julian Tencza, both of Meriden; a sister, Genevieve Damm of Wallingford; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
A military funeral for Mr. Tencza will be held on Monday, Jan. 6, 2003 at 9:15 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
The family requests that donations in behalf of Edward's memory be made to St. Stanislaus School, 81 Akron St., Meriden, CT 06450.
William T. Marcarelli
DERBY -- William T. Marcarelli, 81, of 98 Chestnut Drive, entered into rest on Friday, Jan. 3, at the Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was the devoted husband of Helen Flynn Marcarelli. Mr. Marcarelli was born in New Haven on Nov. 10, 1921, son of the late Domenico and Philomena Landino Marcarelli, and was a resident of Derby for over 40 years. He retired as a manager at Sikorsky Aircraft where he worked for over 30 years.
He is the beloved father of William Marcarelli, Jr. of Southington, Gale Ann Franco of Derby, Kathleen Clemente of Ansonia, and Loreen Brelsford of Meriden. He is also survived by three brothers, Alexander Marcarelli of Ansonia, George Marcarelli of Melborne, Fla. and Albert Marcarelli of Quebec, Canada; 10 cherished grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Louis, Joseph and Angelo Marcarelli; and three sister, Eva Carr, Phyllis Marcarelli, and Annette Nadeau.
The Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., derby, has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Friends are invited to go to a Mass of Christian burial that will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Jude Church, 71 Pleasantview Rd., Derby. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Peters Cemetery
in Derby. There will not be any public calling hours. At the request of the family, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450-1004 (New England Division).
Mary Pattavina
CROMWELL -- Mary Pattavina, 90, wife of the late Sebastian Pattavina of 1 Laurel Drive, died Saturday at Haven Health Care, Cromwell.
She was born Nov. 20, 1912, in Middletown, daughter of the late Carmelo and Gaetina Siena. Prior to her retirement she was employed by A.N. Piersons. She was a member of the Italian Society of Middletown.
She is survived by a son, Guy Pattavina of Meriden; a brother, Russell Siena of West Hartford; a sister, Connie Beeman of Meriden; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by a son, Emanuel Pattavina.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. from the D'Angelo Funeral Home, 22 South Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Sebastian Church. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Nelson J. Campagnano
SOUTHINGTON -- Nelson James Campagnano, 77, of 86 Beecher St., husband of Gloria (Bordash) Campagnano, died peacefully, Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at the Meriden Care Center.
Nelson was born on March 25, 1925, in Southington, the son of the late Josephine (Mongillo) and Angelo Joseph Campagnano and was a lifelong Southington resident. Nelson was a retired engineer from the CT Department of Transportation. He was exceptionally proud of his service with the 8th Air Force, 381st Bomb Squad quartered in Roswell, England, during World War II and attended the group's annual reunions. Nelson was a "ham" radio operator and a past member of the Amateur Radio Club of Southington. He was one of the founding members of the Gang Scarpa Shoda Club, a member of the VFW and DAV and a lifelong parishioner of St. Thomas Church of Southington. Nelson was devoted always to his family and will be dearly missed.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, Nelson is survived by his children, Denise Campagnano of Hampton, Conn., Nelson Campagnano, Jr. and his wife, Kathleen of Coral Springs, Fla., Gregory Campagnano and his wife, Susan of Haddam, Angelo Campagnano and his wife, Deborah of Southington, Lynne Campagnano-Bass and her husband, Adam of Scotland, Conn., and Daniel Campagnano of Coconut Creek, Fla.; sisters, Jennie Greene of Camarillo, Calif., Julia Campagnano of Southington, Mary Beraducci of Plainville, Anne Barillaro of Sun City, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Nelson was predeceased by brothers, Pasquale, Frank and Lawrence Campagnano.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St., Southington, to St. Thomas Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Concetta Stone
MERIDEN -- Concetta "Connie" Stone, 88, 33 Cone Ave., wife of the late Charles Stone, died on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Coccomo Memorial Health Care Center, after a brief illness.
Born in Mechanicville, N.Y., on Dec. 8, 1914, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mezzone. She had resided in Meriden most of her life, and was employed by International Silver Co, New Departure-Hyatt Division of General Motors, and most recently by the Napier Co. of Meriden. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph and Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. Post 9965 -Yalesville.
She is survived by four daughters, Arlene Camp and her husband, Raymond of Florida, Yvonne L. Meagher of Middletown, Anita L. Stone of Mississippi, Cynthia (LaRock) Petroske and her husband, James of California, 12 grandchildren, Lori, Mark, Michael, Lisa, Gregory, Guy, Rhonda, Michelle, Willie, Shara, Kimberly Ann and J.C. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Concetta was predeceased by her first husband, Ernest LaRock; three brothers; and a sister.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., and at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the Mass from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
William S. Thomson
BRISTOL -- William S. "Bill" Thomson, 62, of Chimney Crest Lane, died unexpectedly, Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at home. He was the beloved husband for 40 years of Ellie Hoffman Thomson.
Born and raised in Plantsville, son of the late William and Lois S. Thomson. He was a longtime Southington resident until most recently residing in Bristol. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a founding partner of Thomson Financial Services and a charter member of AmeriBen Alliance, LLC. Bill was very active in many civic organizations including having served as past co-chairman of the Southington Apple Harvest Festival, a member of both the Rotary and Elk's Clubs, a former member of the Southington Gridiron Club, the current Chairman of the Board of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and a former Board member of the Southington Chamber of Commerce where he was still an active member. Bill was awarded the Southington Business Man of the Year in 2000 and was awarded the Berlin Business Man of the year in 2001.
Besides his wife, Ellie, Bill is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Diann Thomson of Southington, Joe and Maura Thomson of Ann Arbor, Mich. and Rob and Patty Thomson of Southington; one brother and two sisters-in-law, George and Sandi Thomson of Maryland and Hilda Kelly of Florida. He was also "Grampa Bill" to his eight loving grandchildren, Billy, Nik, Ethan, Ben, Maggie, Zach, Matt and Sam. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his many good friends at the Carousel Restaurant and his "Monday Night Card League".
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 10 a.m. at St. Matthews Church, 120 Church Ave., in the Forestville section of Bristol. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to the Cranio-Facial Team at Connecticut Children Medical Center, 12 Charter Oak Place, Hartford, CT 06106-9887. Bill will be greatly missed by his family and his countless friends in the community.
Peter J. Winarski
MERIDEN -- Peter J. Winarski, 72, of 254 Crown St., husband of Mary Maple Winarski, died on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Westfield Care & Rehab.
Born in Meriden, Dec. 1, 1930, he was the son of the late Peter and Adeline Podgurski Winarski. He was a lifelong Meriden resident and attended Meriden schools. Mr. Winarski was employed by Racker Florist retiring in 1990. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served with the U.S. Army.
Besides his wife, Mary, he is survived by two daughters, Patricia Stange and her companion, William Bartels of Cheshire and Susan Stange of Barnstead, N.H.; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Dorothy Winarski of Waterbury; seven grandchildren, Jason, Peter and Christen Winarski, Thomas, Jeremy, Michael and Benou Stange. He is also survived by a brother, Robert Winarski of Cheshire.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St. Burial with military honors will be in State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Leo F. Bianchi Sr.
WATERBURY -- Leo F. Bianchi Sr., 76, formerly of Byam Road, Waterbury, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 at the Cedar Lane Rehabilitation and Health Center after an extended illness. He was the husband of Julia (Likley) Bianchi.
Mr. Bianchi was born in Waterbury on Aug. 12, 1926, the son of the late Giacamo and Rose (Chirella) Bianchi. He was educated in local schools and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for many years as a self-employed carpenter, and was a member of the Meriden Rod and Gun Club. He was a communicant of Saints Peter and Paul Church.
In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Bianchi is survived by three sons, Leo Bianchi Jr. of Waterbury, William Bianchi of Cheshire and John Bianchi of Waterbury; two daughters, Leona Bianchi of Waterbury and Evelyn Boeing of Colesville, Calif.; a brother, Edward of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and a sister, Rosemarie Bianchi of Meriden; he also leaves nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Bianchi is predeceased by his son, Robert Bianchi; and his brother, John Bianchi.
Funeral services with full military honors for Mr. Bianchi will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 9:15 a.m. from the Casey O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St., Waterbury, to Saints Peter and Paul Church on Southmayd Road for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery
in Watertown. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
George E. Cardwell
WALLINGFORD -- George E. Cardwell, 77, of Broadview Drive, Wallingford, beloved husband of Sherley Kalms Cardwell, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.
Born in Yakima, Wash., Sept. 22, 1925, son of the late William Bartley Cardwell and Stephanie Wright Cardwell Schmitz, he had resided in North Carolina for many years until moving to Wallingford over 15 years ago. He was employed by RFS Cablewave in Wallingford for over 10 years until his retirement. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.
Besides his wife, Sherley, he is survived by his daughter, Carol L. Cardwell of Flushing, N.Y., and his son, Bruce W. Cardwell of Statesville, N.C.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main Street, Yalesville section of Wallingford, Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the Yalesville Funeral Home. Interment will be the State Veterans Cemetery
in Middletown.
