Thomas M. Agro Jr.
NORTHFORD -- Thomas M. Agro, Jr., 49, of 150 Village St., died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Born in Meriden on July 2, 1953, son of Thomas M. Agro, Sr. and Josephine Teribble Agro of Northford. He had worked as a tile setter for the T. Agro Tile & Construction Company.
He is the father of Alicia Agro of Wallingford and Thomas M. Agro III of Northford; father-in-law of Chris Agro of Northford.; and grandfather of Mellisa Agro of Northford.
Funeral services will be conducted in the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. The visiting hours will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Milton Alex
WALLINGFORD -- Milton Alex, 97, of 4211 Ashlar Village, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, He was the husband of Minnie Weisman Alex.
He was born in Wallingford, July 27, 1905, a son of the late Meyer and Rose Glickman Alex. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II. Until his retirement, he was a manager for the Connecticut State Records Center. He had also been the owner of Alex's Shoe Store in Wallingford. A lifelong resident of Wallingford, he was a member of the Beth Israel Synagogue. He also had been a member of Compass Lodge No. 9 AF & AM in Wallingford.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lois Alex of Brookline, Mass.; a brother, Elmer Alex of West Hartford; a sister, Sylvia Leaven of Burlington, Vt.; and two grandsons, Daniel Lips and Alexander Lips.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the Beth Israel Cemetery
in Wallingford. There are no calling hours. It is suggested that gifts in his memory be sent to the Beth Israel Synagogue, 22 No. Orchard St., Wallingford, CT 06492. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 So. Elm St., Wallingford, is in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Burdacki
CHESHIRE -- Mary Tycz Burdacki, 81, of Birch Drive, died at her home Friday evening in the company of family and friends. She was the wife of John Burdacki and the daughter of the late Stanley and Anna Maucha Tycz. She was predeceased by her first husband, Anthony Chanko.
Born July 18, 1921, in Cheshire she was a lifelong resident and a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church in Meriden. She was active with the Polish Falcons of America, a Lady Falcon in Nest 444 and recently as a member of Nest 68, both of Meriden. An avid bowler, Mary participated Tuesday afternoons in the Plantsville Senior's league where she bowled a personal lifetime high score of 259 pins in one game. Mary loved gardening especially her vegetable garden and everyone enjoyed her homemade horseradish especially on Easter.
Besides her husband, John, Mary leaves five step-children, Karen T. Burdacki and her husband, Dan Nitkowski, Jr. of Meriden, Lawrence Burdacki of Wallingford, and Paul and Karen G. Burdacki, also of Wallingford; two sisters, Esther Berkmoes of Cheshire and Rosalia Beeman of Southington; six grandchildren, Kimberly and Stacy Burdacki, Julia and Jonathan Burdacki, Michelle Nitkowski and Kelley Perry; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Burdacki was predeceased by her brother, Theodore Tycz.
Her funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at 10:45 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Stempien Funeral Home, Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. The family requests donations in memory of Mary Burdacki be made to St. Stanislaus School, 81 Akron St., Meriden, CT 06450.
The family of Mary Burdacki expresses its sincerest appreciation to Dr. Rajani Nadkami and the staff of the MidState Oncology and Hematology unit, the MidState VNA Hospice staff and Mary's helper, Anna.
Daniel L. Davieau
UNIONVILLE -- Daniel L. Davieau, 67, of 69 Bliss Road died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 at Bristol Hospital.
He was born in Hartford, Nov. 17, 1935, and is predeceased by his parents. Dan was a principal accountant and partner in the accounting firm of Mencarini, Albano and Company in Meriden from Oct. 1970 through Dec. 1982. Dan was a long-standing member of the New Horizons Inc., Board of Directors, serving as Chairman of the Board in 1994. During his term as Chairman, Dan's hard work and dedication brought to fruition the refinancing of New Horizons Village. A resident of New Horizons Village in Unionville since 1987, Dan was looked up to as a mentor and friend to many of the residents. He was willing to give freely of himself and helped several fellow residents continue their education. With is help, GED's were earned and success in Junior College classes were attained. Dan was well liked and respected by fellow residents, Board Members, and staff at New Horizons Village. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by two sisters, Diane Kroupa and Carol Groezinger; several nephews; and close friends, Diane and Alan Schutz of Plainville.
Memorials contributions can be made to New Horizons Village, 37 Bliss Road, Unionville, CT 06085 for the benefit of the residents of the Village. All are invited to his memorial service being held at New Horizons Village, 37 Bliss Road Unionville, CT on Jan. 8, 2003 at 12 p.m.
Theresa M. Santora
NEW HAVEN -- Theresa M. Santora, 88, of 230 Burr Street, wife of the late Carmine Santora, died peacefully, Friday, Dec. 20, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford.
She was born Dec. 3, 1914, in New Haven, a daughter to the late Carlo and Julia (Marro) Marro. Prior to her retirement Theresa was employed at Conzana Bus Co., as a monitor.
She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Angelina and (Frank) DellCamera and Margaret and (Ronald) Adams, both of Meriden; one sister, Grace Conroy of Wallingford; five cherished grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Carmine, she is predeceased by four brothers; and two sisters.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, Dec. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday, Dec. 23, at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, West Main St., Meriden. Burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery

Raymond F. Sullivan
SOUTHINGTON -- Raymond F. Sullivan, 86, of Church St., in the Plantsville section of Southington, died Dec. 19, 2002, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Marion Blewitt Sullivan.
He was born in Waterbury, May 4, 1916, a son of the late John and Ernestine Perigard Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan attended St. Anne's School and was a graduate of Crosby High School. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier until his retirement and in a family-owned grocery, Blewitt and Sullivan. He served his country during World War II in the 8th Army Air Corp in the European Theater and was a communicant of St. Aloysius Church, Plantsville.
In addition to Marion, his wife of 55 years, he is survived by his daughter, Brenda S. Wooding and her husband, Philip K. Wooding; his son, Edmund R. Sullivan and his wife, Barbara Luddy Sullivan; two grandsons, Mark S. Wooding and Jonathan K. Wooding; and a granddaughter, Shannon E. Sullivan. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at 12:30 p.m. with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Aloysius Church. Burial will follow in Old Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Calling hours are Monday morning from 11:15 to 12:15 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Sullivan may be made to St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville, CT 06479, or to a charity of the doner's choice.
Judith Ushchak
CHESHIRE -- Judith (Rowe) Ushchak, 65, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at her home. She was the wife of Stephen Ushchak.
Mrs. Ushchak was born in Hartford on Oct. 22, 1937, a daughter of the late John and Gladys (Willis) Rowe and has lived in Cheshire for the past 34 years. She had worked for a time at Aetna in Hartford as well as with Kelly Temporary Services. Mrs. Ushchak was a member of the West Hartford Ski Club; the Connecticut Lighter Than Air Society for hot air balloonists and had belonged to area quilting guilds. She was also a communicant of St. Bridget's Church where at one time she had taught catechism.
Besides her husband she leaves two sons, Mark Ushchak of Wallingford and John Ushchak of Southington; a daughter, Gladys Ushchak of Cheshire; a sister, Linda Ahlberg of Auburn, Calif.; a granddaughter, Alyssa Ushchak and a grandson, Tyler Ushchak, both of Wallingford.
The funeral will leave on Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at 9:15 a.m. from The Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street and proceed to St. Bridget's Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill, CT. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Avenue, Meriden, CT 06450.
Frank W. Dobratz
LAKE WORTH, Fla. -- Frank W. Dobratz, 83, of Lake Worth, Fla., formerly of Lake Beseck, Middlefield, and Meriden, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Atlantis, Fla. He was the beloved husband of Florence Logozzo Dobratz.
Mr. Dobratz was born in Meriden, March 6, 1919, a son of the late Emil and Grace Hook Dobratz, he had lived in Meriden and Middlefield for many years until moving to Florida permanently. He had been a supervisor at New Departure Division of General Motors for many years, where he was a member of the Fish and Game Club.
Besides his wife, Florence, he is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey A. and Penny Dobratz of Killingworth, Bruce R. and Sandra Dobratz of Plymouth, Mass. and Gary W. and Sandra Dobratz of Meriden; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Dorothy Pascucci, Faye Wruck, Ruth Pappas, and Shirley Roberts; and two brothers, Raymond Dobratz and James Dobratz.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to either the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492, or the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450. Julia O. Kearns
CHELMSFORD, Mass. -- Julia O. (Okolotkiewicz) Kearns, 90, also known as Julia O. Britha, of Chelmsford, formerly of Richmond, N.H., and Springfield, Mass., died Dec. 21, 2002, in Lowell, Mass. She was the wife of the late Harry Kearns.
She was a retired secretary for the City of Springfield, Mass., School and Health Departments.
She was the beloved mother of Mary L. James and her husband, Thomas W. of Chelmsford, Mass. and Virginia B. Springer and her husband, Roger of Richmond, N.H.; grandmother of David and Katherine James of Chelmsford; sister of Stanley Okolokiewicz of South Meriden and Agnes Rojecki of Levittown, N.Y.; and aunt of several nieces and nephews in Connecticut and New York.
The calling hours will be held at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford, on Thursday from 12 to 2 p.m. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Friends of the Chelmsford Public Library, 25 Boston Rd., Chelmsford, MA 01824.
