Donald W. Sullivan Sr.

SOUTHINGTON -- Donald W. Sullivan Sr., 72, of South Main Street, in the Plantsville section of Southington, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at the Roger Williams Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Ruth Rogers Sullivan.

Born in New Britain, Dec. 28, 1929, a son of the late George and Margaret Brown Sullivan, he had been a Southington resident for 49 years. Mr. Sullivan founded Donald Sullivan and Sons Plumbing and Heating in 1960. He also founded several other businesses, including Sullivan Realty, Tara's Café and Sullivan Hall. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army in Korea and was a member of St. Aloysius Church.

In addition to Ruth, his wife of 49 years, he also leaves 10 children; two daughters and one son-in-law, Tara Morrison and her husband, Alan of Southington and Eve Sullivan of Stamford; eight sons and six daughters-in-law, Donald Sullivan Jr. of Florida, Arthur Sr. and Patricia Sullivan of Southington, Stephen Sr. and Diane Sullivan of Rhode Island, Martin and Alison Sullivan, Warren and Patricia Sullivan, Philip Sullivan, David Sr. and Mandy Sullivan, all of Southington and Barton and Lori Sullivan of Bristol; one brother, Roger Sullivan of Farmington; 17 grandchildren who called him "Pop," and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Joan Rexinger; and his brother, George Sullivan.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m. from the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church. Burial with military honors will follow in South End Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

John B. Foffa

NEW BRITAIN -- John B. Foffa, 72, of 55 Treemont St., died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002 in the Harborside Health Care Facility, West Hartford after an extended illness.

He was born in Meriden, April 27, 1930, a son of the late Rocco and Evelyn Vitale Foffo. Mr. Foffa had worked in food service for many years, retiring as luncheonette manager of Kresgee's Department Store, Waterbury. Despite several years of disability he made many good and long lasting friends.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Donald R. and Adele Fuffo of Meriden; two nephews, Michael and John Fuffo; a great-nephew, Ryan Fuffo; a devoted cousin, Pauline Thomasino of West Hartford; an uncle, Louis Cello, also of Meriden; and several other cousins.

Mr. Foffa's memorial service in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Meriden will be held in early January, 2003, the time and date will be announced. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden.

Alma Jackson

MERIDEN -- Alma "June" Jackson, 75, of Meriden, formerly of Winsted, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002.

Born June 17, 1927 in Chattanooga, Tenn., June lived in Winsted, for 36 years before moving to Middletown, where she lived for three years. While in Middletown, she drove a school bus for Special Needs Children before moving to North Carolina. She returned to Connecticut five years ago and has resided in Meriden until the time of her death.

June is survived by a sister, Julia LePore of Middletown; a daughter, Bernice M. Koenemund of Meriden; three sons, Ernest C. Koenemund of Nanuet, N.Y., Andrew William Jackson of Maryland and John W. Jackson of Washington ; and several grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Friday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of Hanover Towers, 76 Butler St., Meriden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 74 Central Ave., Waterbury, CT 06720-0431. The Shea Funeral Home, 99 Wheeler St., Winsted has charge of arrangements.

Sadie M. Jones

DURHAM -- Sadie M. (Hugee) Jones, 70, of Main St., Durham, wife of the late Bobby L. Jones, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002 at her home.

Born in Florence, S.C., she was the daughter of the late John and Estell (Gregg) Hugee. Mrs. Jones had lived in Durham for over 30 years. She was employed by Middlesex Hospital for 39 years, retiring in 1987, and also by High View Convalescent Center where she provided 25 years of service to the community. She was an active member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church in Meriden, where she was Mother of the Church, member and past President of Pastoral Aid, member of the Mass and Senior Choir, and the Missionary Board.

She is survived by two sons, Keith A. Jones of Durham and Maurice Jones of Middletown; two daughters, Lisa Marie Jones of Middletown and Theresa L. Jones of New Haven; one adopted daughter, Maudine Martin of Portland; six sisters, Janether Myers of West Haven, Jessie M. Vereen of Middletown, Margaret Weston of Middletown, Darphine Hughee of Hartford, Judy Young of Middletown and Ludell Murray of Windsor; one sister-in-law, Helen Weston of East Hampton; and one godchild, Tatiyna Young. She was predeceased by one son, Bobby L. Jones Jr.; and two brothers, Troy Hugee and John Allen Hugee.

Funeral services will be held at the Mount Hebron Baptist Church, Meriden, Friday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Willie Young, minister of the Mount Hebron Baptist Church, will officiate and interment will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at the Church Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and may visit the online guest book at www.doolittlefuneralservice.com. Doolittle Funeral Service, 14 Old Church St., Middletown, is in charge of arrangements.

Stephanie E. Leffingwell

CHESHIRE -- Mrs. Stephanie Elizabeth (Koziel) Leffingwell, 82, of 756 Cook Hill Road, wife of Roland F. Leffingwell, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at her home.

Mrs. Leffingwell was born in Northford, Dec. 16, 1920, a daughter of the late Martin and Rozalia (Cedzidlo) Koziel and had been a Cheshire resident for over 60 years, moving here from New Haven. She retired in 1985 from SNET Co., with over 20 years of service. She was a communicant of St. Bridget's Church.

Besides her husband of 60 years, she leaves two daughters, Sharon Maynard of Roxbury and Susan Reynolds of Wallingford; two brothers, Joseph Koziel of Orange and Stephen Koziel of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget's Church. Friends are asked to meet directly to the church. Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home, 615 S. Main St., Cheshire is in charge of arrangements.

Josephine Wietrak

MERIDEN -- Josephine Opanel Wietrak, 92, of 33 Cone Ave., formerly of 38 South Side Terrace, Wallingford died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002 at the Coccomo Memorial Health Care Center in Meriden. She was the wife of the late John Opanel.

She was born in Meriden, May 10, 1910, a daughter of the late Frank and Rose Wysopal Wietrak. Until her retirement she was a nurses aid at Homecare in Wallingford. She was a communicant of the Church of the Resurrection in Wallingford.

She is survived by a son, Francis Opanel of Durham; a daughter, Josephine Riley of Wethersfield; two grandchildren, Kelli Lykins and her husband, Steve and Kimberly Veneziano and her husband, Guy, all of Marlborough; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, John Opanel.

Friends and relatives may call at the chapel of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Burial at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford will be private. If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be made to the Coccomo Memorial Recreation Department, 33 Cone Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.

Ann Dinneen

WALLINGFORD -- Ann Kennedy Dinneen, 76, of Nicholas Road, Wallingford, beloved wife of John "Jack" Dinneen, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

Born in New Haven, Feb. 14, 1926, a daughter of the late Eugene J. Kennedy Sr. and the late Anna Egan Kennedy, she had been a Wallingford resident for many years. She had been employed as a telephone operator by Yale-New Haven Hospital for many years until her retirement. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in the Yalesville section of Wallingford.

Besides her beloved husband, Jack, she is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia A. and Dennis T. DiStasio of Killingworth and Jacquelyn A. and Chuck Stupakevich of Wallingford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward J. and Cathy Dinneen of Sneads Ferry, N.C., and Dan and Lori Dinneen of Griswold; four grandchildren, Scott P. DiStasio, Alexandra Stupakevich, Veronica Dinneen and Erica Dinneen; her brother, Joseph Kennedy of North Haven; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Eugene J. Kennedy Jr.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church where a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Father Michael J. McGivney Center for Cancer Care, 1450 Chapel St. New Haven, CT 06511.

Aurore R. Gagne

MERIDEN -- Aurore R. Gagne, 97, of 155 Franklin St., wife of the late William Gagne, died on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at her home.

Born in Meriden on Oct. 5, 1905, the daughter of the late Phillip and Clara Harpin Gagne, she had resided in Canada until coming to Meriden in 1935. Mrs. Gagne was educated in Canada and employed at the International Silver Company until her retirement. She was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church.

She is survived by one son, Joseph L. Gagne, with whom she made her home; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Fred Gagne; a grandson, James Gagne; a great-grandson, Richard Gagne Jr.; also seven brothers and sisters.

The funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden with Rev. Joseph DiSciacca of St. Laurent Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Mary Ann Ketre

WALLINGFORD -- Mary Ann Ketre, 83, of East Center St., Wallingford, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at the Gladeview Health Care Center in Old Saybrook.

Born in New Haven, Nov. 1, 1918, a daughter of the late Nicola and Anna Harrison Ketre, she had been a New Haven resident for many years, a Hamden resident for several years until moving to Wallingford. She was employed by Fleet Bank in New Haven for many years until her retirement.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas A. and Lorraine T. Ketre of Clinton; and several nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by a sister, Helen Klim; and a brother, Walter S. Ketre; and her nephew, Douglas A. Ketre.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held Saturday, at 10 a.m. in the In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford.
