Catherine Alicata
WALLINGFORD -- Catherine Scirocco Alicata, 83, of 29 Laurelview Park, Wallingford, formerly of Russell St., New Haven, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002 at the MidState Medical Center, Meriden. She was the wife of Salvatore (Sam) Alicata.
Born in New Haven on Feb. 9, 1919, daughter of the late Nicholas and Maria Stellato Scirocco; sister of Michael, Frank and John Scirocco, Mary Raucci and the late Josephine Pellegrino, Ann Dipolino, Rose Secki, Pasquale and Anthony Scirocco.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven Monday at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Most Holy Trinity Church, Wallingford at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Nicholas E. Arpaia Jr.
CHESHIRE -- Nicholas E. Arpaia Jr., 75, of Greenbriar Drive, Cheshire, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002 in Branford. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie Grace (Zampano) Arpaia.
Nicholas was the son of the late Nicholas E. and Ella Mae (Foley) Arpaia Sr. Prior to his retirement he was the Owner and President of Nickson Tool Sales Co. in North Haven.
He was the loving father of Nicholas E. Arpaia III of Durham and Kimberly M. Arpaia of New Haven; brother of Letty A. Plourd and her husband, Rick of W. Lake Village, Calif.; and uncle of Dr. David Plourd of San Diego, Calif.
Funeral services in Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Monday at 1 p.m. Burial in All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions to CT. Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
Sophie Ciasulli
WALLINGFORD -- Sophie Piascik Ciasulli, 92, of Chimney Hill Road, Yalesville section of Wallingford, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 in the Wadsworth Glen Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Middletown. She was the wife of Vito P. Ciasulli.
In addition to survivors mentioned in Thursday's obituary, Mrs. Ciasulli is survived by her son-in-law, Francis Dontigney of South Meriden.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Saturday from 9 to 10:15 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery
in Meriden.
Norma C. Cronin
WALLINGFORD -- Norma C. Scott Cronin, 78, of Brentwood Drive, formerly North Airline Road, Wallingford, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at the UConn Health Care Center in Farmington. She was the wife of the late Eugene B. Cronin.
Born in Vermont, Sept. 12, 1924, she had been a Wallingford resident for many years.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bernard E. and Debbie J. Cronin of Meriden; her two grandchildren, Daniel B. Cronin Sr. and Carl F. Cronin; and her great-grandson, Daniel B. Cronin Jr. She was predeceased by her son, James P. Cronin.
Her family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Silver Springs Nursing Center for the excellent care of Norma during the past 10 years.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Monday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Yalesville Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Interment will be in the In Memoriam Cemetery
in Wallingford.
Natalie Goldman
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Natalie Bogatz Goldman, 86, wife of the late Julius Bogatz, died on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 at Phoenix Mountain Nursing Center after an extended illness.
Born in New York, N.Y., on July 22, 1916, the daughter of the late Rebecca and Harry Goldstein, she resided in Chicago, Ill., most of her adult life before moving to Arizona with her daughter and son-in-law. Natalie was an avid baker and wonderful friend, was on the board of the Sisterhood Temple, active in the community, read for the blind and volunteered on many projects.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Seymour Reckles; two grandchildren, Julie Zunker and Abigail Babbitt and her husband, Lloyd; one great-grandchildren, Gavin R. Babbitt; one sister, Evelyn Shapiro; and two sisters-in-law, June Bogatz and Doris Cohen.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside service to held on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 12 p.m. at B'nai Abraham Cemetery, Corrigan Ave., Meriden with Rabbi Dana Bogatz officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Arizona, 2222 W. Northern Ave., Suite A100, Phoenix, Ariz 85021 or to Alzheimer's Association, 919 North Michigan Ave., Suite 1100, Chicago, III 60611-1676. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Elmer F. Dow
WALLINGFORD -- Elmer F. Dow, 90, husband of Marita (Maynard-Papallo) Dow, of 65 Ashlar Village, died Friday night, Dec. 13, 2002, in the Masonic Geriatric Center.
He was born in Roxbury, Mass., Jan. 11, 1912, the son of the late Elmer and Minnie Silva Dow. He was a resident of Wallingford for several years. Mr. Dow was a graduate of Harvard College, BS-Cum Laude, with his MBA from the Harvard Graduate Business School. He held several positions during his distinguished career culminating with his retirement from the Bradley Home, Meriden, as it's administrator. He had previously been employed as Senior Accountant, with CPA's Cooper and Lybrand, Staff Accountant for the Hamilton Division of United Technologies, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer of Colt Firearms Corp., Hartford, and as Comptroller with the International Silver Co. He published many accounting and financial papers. He was a captain with the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946, received a certificate of commendation as Chief of Ordanance, Washington D.C. His service to the community included, past President, Financial Executives Institute, Hartford; Board of Governors, Meriden Memorial Medical Center; Board of Directors and Treasurer, Meriden YMCA; Board of Directors, Meriden Industrial Development Corp.; Board of Directors, National Association of Accountants, Hartford Chapter. He was a member of The Washington Lodge AF&AM Lexington, Mass., Meriden Lodge AF&AM, Meriden, The Home Club, and The First Congregational Church, Meriden. In the past he was an active tennis player and golfer.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a stepdaughter and her husband, Marguerite and John Clancy of Plainville; a stepson and his wife, Richard and Dawn Papallo of Wallingford; three stepgrandchildren, Melissa and her husband, John Lesniak, Christine and her husband, Jon Paul Venoit, and Cynthia Papallo; also a great-stepgrandson, Ethan Venoit; a niece and her husband, Gloria and Weston Miller of Attleboro, Mass.; several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Evelyn O'Dwyer; and his niece, Beverly Smith.
His memorial service will be held in January 2003, at a time and place to be announced. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of The Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad Street, Meriden.
John S. Larmett
WOLCOTT -- John Stacey Larmett, of 12 Mohawk Drive, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Abbott Terrace Health Center, Waterbury. He was the husband of Marguerite (Durner) Larmett for 59 years.
Mr. Larmett was born in Waterbury, son of the late John and Ruth (Hawkins) Larmett. He graduated from Bunker Hill Grammar School and attended Post Business College. Mr. Larmett also attended Tennessee Military Institute, Sweetwater, Tenn. He retired from Ferrule Company where he was an eyelet toolmaker for many years, having been previously employed for several years at Sylvania in Naugatuck, American Brass and Chase Brass and Copper. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Nosahogan Lodge #21, Waterbury and the American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waterbury, now the First Baptist Church Plymouth and a member of the former order of DeMolay.
Besides his wife of 59 years, he leaves a son, John Stacey Larmett, II of Wolcott; a daughter, Marguerite Larmett Farr of Southington; two grandsons, Peter George Farr and Charles Durner Farr; and one great-granddaughter, Delaney Rose Farr. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Schulzinsky.
Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 70 Central Avenue is in charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth M. McLaughlin
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Elizabeth M. McLaughlin, 80, formerly of Meriden, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, in Bethlehem, Pa. She was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (McAllister) McLaughlin. She worked for the Method Dept. for the Bell Telephone, New Haven until retiring. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Meriden.
She is survived by a brother, John T. of Westminister, Md.; one sister, Peggy A. Volpinari, with whom she resided; nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Calling hours are 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. The Downing Funeral Home Inc., Bethlehem, is in charge of arrangements. Contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
