Joyce A. Santor
MERIDEN -- Joyce A. Santor, 61, of Meriden, wife of Clayton Santor, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Dec. 10, 2002 after a brief illness.
Born in Waterbury on Jan. 8, 1941, Joyce was the daughter of the late Catherine Rivard and Paul Gangloff. She attended Waterbury schools. After marrying her husband, Clayton Santor in 1960, they moved to Meriden where they have resided for the past 42 years. Joyce was previous employed by the Napier Co. before becoming office manager/Asst. for Dr. Amos in Meriden, where she has been employed for the past 20 years. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Waterbury as well as St. Laurent Church in Meriden. She was an active member of TOPS in Meriden.
Besides her husband, Clayton Santor, she is survived by her children and their spouses, Cindy and John Fiengo, Linda and Donald George Jr., all of Meriden and Clayton Santor of Plainfield; Joyce was the loving grandmother of 10 grandchildren, Jillian, Jodi, Amanda, Aleah, Danny, Brian, Kyle, Amanda, Valerie and Corey; she also leaves behind a twin sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Fred Barker of Naugatuck; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Michael Fusco of Oakville; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dean and Vicki Santor and Maurice Santor of Meriden and Lorraine and Bob Daley of Virginia; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Paul Santor; brothers, Paul and Jimmy Gangloff.
There will a be a Mass of remembrance on Friday, Dec. 13, at St. Joseph Church in Meriden at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the contributions of an unwrapped toy may be brought to the church and will be distributed in Joyce's memory to help needy children have a better Christmas.
Salvatore Scalia
WEST HAVEN -- Salvatore Scalia, 85, husband of the late Rose Bova Scalia of 14 St. Paul Ave., formerly of Hughes St., East Haven, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 in West Haven.
He was employed by AVCO-Lycoming for 22 years as an experimental technician and prior to that at Weiner's Auto Repair as a mechanic. He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Fr. Regan Council, Knight of Columbus and a lifetime member of the East Haven Gridiron Club.
He was the father and father-in-law, John and Marie Scalia of Berlin, Mario and Mary Lynne Scalia of Scottsdale, Ariz., Salvatore and Maureen Scalia of East Haven, Christine and Steven Louis of Branford and Sister Concetta Scalia of Baltic; brother of Katherine Iadarola of East Haven, Dorothy Cotrone of Melbourne, Fla., Vincent Scalia Sr. of Branford and Louis and Nicholas Scalia, both of East Haven; also survived by seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, John G. and Concetta Spambanato Scalia; brother, John Scalia; and sister, Lena Garguilo.
His funeral will leave the East Haven Memorial, 425 Main St., Saturday at 9:30 a.m., Mass of Christian burial at St. Vincent de Paul Church at 10 a.m. Burial in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Antonietta T. Thomas
KENT, Ohio -- Antonietta T. Thomas, 83, of Chadwick Drive, Kent, Ohio, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 at Heather Knoll Nursing Home in Tallmadge, Ohio.
She was born June 13, 1919 in Pescara, Italy to Giuseppe and Maria (Angelone) DiCintio. She was a seamstress in Kent for many years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Society of St. Anthony, provided translation services for many second generation Italian families in Kent, enjoyed traveling back to Italy and enjoyed her family.
Survivors include her son, John (Nancy) of Kent, Ohio; daughter, Victoria (Jeff) Craigie of Southington; six grandchildren; and brothers, Giustino DiCintio, Aldo DiCintio, Alfredo DiCintio and Amedeo DiCintio, all of Pescara Italy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor D. Thomas in 1983; and by brothers, Adriano and Armando; and sisters, Anna and Adua.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Friday at the Bissler and Sons Funeral Home and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery

Richard G. Ziemba
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Richard G. Ziemba, 55, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002 in Las Vegas.
Born in Meriden, Feb. 24, 1947, he was the son of the late Walter G. and Agnes (Bogdanski) Ziemba. He resided in Meriden until moving to Las Vegas 22 years ago. He was a graduate of Maloney High School and a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church while in Meriden. Mr. Ziemba was employed by Binion's Horseshoe Hotel and Casino.
He is survived by a sister, Jean (Ziemba) Shibetta of Meriden; and a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Kathleen Ziemba of Meriden; also several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
Joseph P. Canha
SOUTHINGTON -- Joseph P. Canha, of 114 Savage St., Plantsville section, died Wednesday Dec. 11, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Ellie (Carvalho) Canha.
Born in New Bedford, Mass., the son of the late Francisco and Rose (Moniz) Canha. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Prior to his retirement in 1999, he had been employed by the Record-Journal in Meriden.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jay P. Canha of Plantsville; a daughter Janell Canha of Boston, Mass.; a brother Frank Canha of N. Dartmouth, Mass.; two sisters, Rose Patton of E. Providence, R.I., and Vicky Mendoza of New Bedford, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main to Mary Our Queen Church at 10 a.m. for a Mass. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery

Julian A. Kubala
SOUTHINGTON -- Julian A. "Whitey" Kubala, 75, of Marion Ave., in the Plantsville section of Southington, died suddenly on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at home. He was the beloved husband of Valarie Danieleski Kubala for 53 years.
Born in New Britain, Feb. 10, 1927, son of the late Constance and Andrew Kubala, he had been a Southington resident for the past 53 years. "Whitey" started Jath Manufacturing in the mid-Fifties, where he worked until his death. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the LST 225 where he was involved in several major campaigns in the Pacific Theater.
In addition to his wife, Valarie, he is survived by his son, Thomas Kubala of Bristol; his three daughters, Holly Charamut, Julie Adams and Jodi Cirillo, all of Southington; his sister, Josie Aubin of Terryville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of "Whitey" may be made to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center Foundation, 12 Charter Oak Place, Hartford, CT 06106.
John M. Pauzano
GUILFORD -- John Mauro Pauzano of 20 River St., Guilford, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Inge-Lise Topshoj Pauzano.
Born Feb. 5, 1944, in New York City, son of Albina Grisolia Pauzano of Guilford and the late Louis V. Pauzano.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kristen Pauzano of Rocky Hill; sons, Jonathan and David Pauzano, both of Guilford; brother and brother-in-law of Louis and Louise V. Pauzano of Hopewell Jct., N.Y., and Annette and Peter Muszynski of Guilford; also survived by several nieces and nephews; and a great-nephew. He was predeceased by a nephew, Michael Pauzano.
Funeral service will be held at First Congregational Church, Guilford, Friday at 11 a.m. Burial in St. George Cemetery, Guilford. Contributions in Mr. Pauzano's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice. Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford, has charge of arrangements.
Donald W. Reims
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- Donald William Reims, 80, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 9, 2002.
Born May 16, 1922, in Richmond Hill, N.Y., Don was a long time resident of both Wallingford, and Pompano Beach, Fla. Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Don's legacy of devotion, sincerity, honesty, wisdom and dedication to family is rich and robust. At the tender age of 20, Don joined the United States Navy in 1942 and honorably served his country until 1945 aboard the USS William Weigle in the North Atlantic. After the war, Don attended college at New York University and received a BS degree in Industrial Engineering in 1949. In 1950, Don was married to his beloved bride of 52 years, the former Elizabeth Paterson of Freeport, N.Y. They moved to Connecticut where their blessed union produced three wonderful and devoted children. Don enjoyed a long career as an industrial sales executive until his retirement in 1986. Don's "service comes first" approach to his profession, colleagues and all his many customers was the root of his success. Don gave many years of active service to Rotary International. He was also a member of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford and a charter member of the Farms Country Club. Don touched many hearts with his jovial spirit. He loved to tell long stories about the many good-natured people who crossed his path. Always upbeat and energetic, he devoted many hours to mentoring his children, especially in competitive swimming and tennis. Don also adored automobiles, and could recite the litany of classic cars he owned over the years from memory.
And, for all of these memories and many others, we, his family and friends are truly blessed. Family members include his wife, Elizabeth P. Reims, and children Nancy Reims Smith and husband, Mike of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Donald W. Reims Jr. and wife, Karen of Cheshire, and Susan Reims Joslyn and fiancée, Ron Adams of Wallingford; and his grandchildren, Becky and Brian Smith and Christopher and Matthew Reims.

Lucy D. Ricci
WATERBURY -- Lucy Dora Ricci, 81, formerly of Hillside Ave., Meriden, entered into rest eternal, Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, in Cedar Lane, Waterbury.
Born in Meriden, Jan. 6, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Carmela Riccio Ricci, and was a resident until moving to Cheshire five years ago to her brother and sister-in-law's home, Leonard and Evelyn Ricci. Before her retirement in 1986, she worked for International Silver Co. of Meriden for 47 years. A graduate of St. Mary's School and Meriden High School, she was an active member of the Children of Mary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and crowned the Blessed Virgin Mary years ago. She also was a member of Trips and Tours in Meriden for many years.
She was the sister of Leonard A. Ricci of Cheshire; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Anna DellaCalce and Mary Oliver; and brothers, John J. and Lawrence Ricci.
