Byron F. Hineline
MERIDEN -- Byron F. Hineline, 81, husband of Vera Ticino Hineline, died on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002 at MidState Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Born in South Meriden on Nov. 7, 1921, the son of the late George and Margaret Godburn Hineline, he was a lifelong Meriden resident. He attended Meriden schools, was a graduate of Meriden High School, and was employed by International Silver Company for many years. Mr. Hineline was a veteran of World War II, served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of All Saint's Episcopal Church, where he served as an altar server. He was also an avid cribbage player.
Besides his wife, Vera, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Charles Connors; his sons, David Hineline and Cindy Morin and John Hineline, all of Meriden; nine grandchildren, Raymond Raffles, Carrie Ann Reed, Michael Raffles, David Hineline Jr., Cassie Lynn Connors, Allie Marie Connors, Matthew Hineline, Jody Lynes and Jennifer Lynes; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Carmella and Raymond Brooks.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 201 W. Main St., Meriden, with Rev. Irvin Gagnon officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Elena Pagano
WALLINGFORD -- Elena "Helen" Atanasio Pagano, 90, of North Airline Road, Wallingford, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at the Brook Hollow Health Care Center in Wallingford, She was the beloved wife of Albert N. Pagano Sr.
Born in New York City, Sept. 21, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Vincenza Puleo Atanasio and had been a Wallingford resident for many years. She had been employed by SNET as a telephone operator for many years, and had later worked at Feldman Dress Co. in Wallingford.
Besides her husband Albert, she is survived by three sisters.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. John Cemetery, Wallingford. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Parkinson's Disease Association, 27 Allendale Drive, North Haven, CT 06473.
Marilyn L. Ryan
VERO BEACH, Fla. -- Marilyn L. Ryan, 76, of Vero Beach, Fla., died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002 at VNA Hospice House, after a prolonged illness.
She was born May 14, 1926 in Hartford, and moved to Vero Beach, Fla., 10 years ago, coming from Old Saybrook. Mrs. Ryan worked as a nurse's aid for 20 years with the Masonic Home of Wallingford. She was a member of St. John of The Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach, Fla.
She is survived by her three daughters, Ellen Reising of Vero Beach, Fla., Barbara Germain of Weston and May Saner of Corona, Calif.; son, Matthew Ryan of Wallingford; sister, Barbara Hunt of Bristol; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Wallingford. Donations may be made to VNA/Hospice of Indian River County, 1111 36th St., Vero Beach, Fla., 32960 in memory of Mrs. Ryan.
Blanche Tate
WALLINGFORD -- Blanche Bryant Tate, 89, of 7 McGuire Court, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 at the home of her son, Eugene McLean in Wallingford. She was the wife of the late Charles Tate.
Born in Calais, Maine on Aug. 13, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Cora Seeley Fenlason.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Clyde and Patricia McLean of Riverside, Calif., and Eugene and Nettie McLean of Wallingford; a sister, Arlene Henderson of Skowhegan, Maine; six grandchildren, Deborah Bell of Mira Loma, Calif.; Clyde A. McLean of Rich Cucamonga, Calif., Trace Prentice of Riverside, Calif., Jane Elizabeth McLean of Wallingford, Eugene P. McLean of Meriden and John P. McLean of Wallingford; and nine great-grandchildren Corinne J. McLean, Karley M. McLean, Kyle J. McLean, Nash A. McLean, Brittany Bell, Connor McLean, Kathryn McLean, Bronwyn Prentice and Payton Prentice. She was predeceased by a sister, Doris Spencer; and a brother, Oscar Fenlason.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
David N. Ceccarelli
MERIDEN -- David Neal Ceccarelli, 55, of Meriden, husband of Christine M. Ceccarelli, died peacefully at home on Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, after a long illness.
Born in Plymouth, Mass., on Aug. 16, 1947, the son of the late Tino and Geraldine (Balboni) Ceccarelli, he and his wife resided in Meriden for the past 27 years. Dave graduated from Plymouth-Carver High School in 1965 and received a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1970. Following graduation, he worked as a computer systems specialist until his retirement in 1993. Dave was an irresistible enthusiast during his years leading programming professionals for SNET. Always a respected coworker, selfless mentor and gentle leader, he inspired excellence. An avid gardener, Dave also enjoyed racquetball, downhill skiing and gourmet cooking during this lifetime. Upon his retirement, he continued his father's tradition of daily cribbage games with family and friends.
Besides his wife, Dave is survived by his sister, Nancy Dillon of Santa Teresa, New Mexico; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Raymond and Catherine Ferry of Lancaster, Pa.; his mother-in-law, Alice Dougal of Chicopee, Mass.; nieces, Stephanie Larkins and her family of Tucson, Ariz., Valerie Miller and her family, currently stationed with the U.S. military in Germany and Claudine Nelson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nephews, R.J. Ferry of Somerville, Mass., and Matthew Ferry of Lancaster, Pa.; and numerous devoted friends who supported Dave and Chris throughout his illness.
Calling hours for David will take place on Thursday, Dec. 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, with the Rev. Joseph DiSciacca officiating. Burial will be private. The family had requested that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the David Ceccarelli Memorial Fund in care of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Connecticut Chapter, 705 North Mountain Road, Suite G102, Newington, CT 06111. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Michael R. Cefarelli
INDEPENDENCE, Kan. -- Michael R. Cefarelli, formerly of Wallingford, Conn., passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Beichner) Cefarelli; his daughter, Kristine Marie; his mother; seven brothers; two sisters; two aunts; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Michael Cefarelli.
Services were held in Independence, Kan.
Sophie Ciasulli
WALLINGFORD -- Sophie Piascik Ciasulli, 92, of Chimney Hill Road, Yalesville section of Wallingford, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 in the Wadsworth Glen Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Middletown. She was the wife of Vito P. Ciasulli.
Born in Templeton, Mass., Sept. 28, 1910, a daughter of the late Michael and Maryanna "Mary" Vasosolki Piascik, she had been a Meriden resident before moving to Yalesville 44 years ago. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Ciasulli is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Dolores and William Senger of Pinellas Park, Fla., Jeanette and Charles Blessing of West Haven, and Betty and Chester Wernicki of the Plantsville section of Southington; her 2 sisters, Frances (Mrs. Stanley) Wieloch of South Meriden and Veronica (Mrs. John) Kulis of Hamden; her step-children and their spouses, Sheila and Robert Cosgrove of Meriden, Anthony and Joan Ciasulli of Wallingford, David and Karen Ciasulli of Hampton, N.H., and Raymond and Helen Ciasulli of Cheshire; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many loving and caring nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Stephen Mlinarcik; her daughter, Marion Dontigney; her sister, Helen; and her brothers, John, Michael and Gordon.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Saturday from 9 to 10:15 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery
in Meriden.
Carey G. Lowe Jr.
MERIDEN -- Carey G. Lowe Jr., 83, of East Main St., Meriden, died on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown after a brief illness.
Born in New Haven on April 29, 1919, the son of the late Carey G. Lowe Sr. and Blanche Austin Lowe, he had resided in Meriden most of his life. He attended local schools and Michigan State College, and was the owner and operator of Mountain Spring Water Co. of Meriden for some 22 years. Prior to this, he operated Lowe Excavating Co. for over 30 years. Mr. Lowe was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was a prominent member of the Meriden Elks Club, Lodge No. 35, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Meriden, the Masonic Temple, Meridian No. 77, and the Northeast Bottled Water Association.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Greg Kelleher of Pennsylvania and Susan and Mike Heaney of Putnam; two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Elaine Lowe of Durham and Carey III and Cheryl Lowe of Charlestown, R.I.; 12 grandchildren, Elizabeth Kelleher-Billard, Tom and Ted Kelleher, Peter Lowe Jr., Katie, Stacey, Allison, Kristin, Meghan, Christopher, Benjamin and Joshua Lowe; one great-grandchild, Victor Billard; two sisters, Thyrza Edson of New Milford and Sarah Torello of New Haven; two brothers, Henry Lowe and George Lowe, both of DeLeon Springs, Fla.; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Ernest Edward Lowe of Durham; a sister, Beatrice Polly Marks of Willington; and a brother, Robert Lowe of Meriden.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden with the Rev. Dr. Elven W. Riggles Jr. of the United Churches of Durham officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 3 to 6 p.m.
Walter C. Mathews
NORTH HAVEN -- Walter C. Mathews, 72, of 11 Howe St., North Haven, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 at the CT Hospice, Branford. He was the husband of the late Margaret M. Hines Mathews.
He was the father of Lora A. and Robert C. Mathews, and James E. Mathews and his wife, Dianne; grandfather of Sarah, Brian, Kevin and Kelly Mathews; and brother of Alice Gordon and the late Victor Mathews.
Relatives and friends may call at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
