Louise E. Boone
MERIDEN -- Louise E. Boone, 86, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at The Life Care Center of Treasure Valley, Boise, Idaho.
She was born in Meriden on Aug. 24, 1916, the daughter of the late Peter and Victoria Ferretti who resided at 269 Capital Avenue. Upon graduating from Meriden High School she held a myriad of administrative positions up until her retirement to include clerical positions at International Silver Company and Hartford National Bank.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Cynthia Boone of Boise, Idaho; her son, Mark Boone of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her four grandchildren, Bryan, Tyler, Allison and Michael; her sister, Angeline Karl of Wallingford; and brother, Andrew Ferretti of Bingham, Maine. She was predeceased by two brothers, Dominic of Middlefield and James of Washington DC.
Funeral services will be held at the Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Goodwin Ave., Meriden on Dec. 7, at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery
in Meriden.
Edward S. Dara
MERIDEN -- Edward S. Dara, 85, of Avery Ave., died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002 at Regency House of Wallingford. He was the husband of the late Genevieve Szymaszek Dara.
Born in Meriden on July 9, 1917, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose Lorek Dara Sr. He was employed as a buffer at the former International Silver Company and served as a sergeant in the 19th Infantry in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Southern Philippines in the Pacific Theater. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans. He was a devoted father, grandfather and uncle who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Marie Dara of Meriden; three sisters, Margaret (Marge) Kulpa, Florence (Flo) Wells and Helen Marszalek; two very special grandchildren, John and Christine Dara; a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Angiletta; several other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers, John Dara, Raymond Dara, Edmund Dara, Joseph Dara Jr. and Paul Dara.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden and at 10:15 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Dara's memory may be made to Maloney High School Concert Choir, 63 Gravel St., Meriden, CT 06450 or to Boy Scouts of America, c/o Conn Yankee Council, BSA, 60 Wellington Road, P.O. Joseph R. Kata
WALLINGFORD -- Joseph R. Kata, 64, of 26 Pierson Drive, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 7, 1938, in New Britain, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Cebula) Kata. Mr. Kata had served in the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his retirement in 1992 he had been employed by Gem's Sensor in Plainville. He was an avid sports fan of the N.Y. Yankees, Giants and also UConn basketball.
He is survived by a son, Michael J. and his wife, Darlene Kata of Bristol; a daughter, Lisa A. Kata of Plainville; a sister, Barbara Crane of N.J.; His Companion, Joanne Groppelli of Wallingford; his former wife, and special friend, Nancy Kata; and a nephew, Major Brian E. Crane USMC.
The funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Plainville. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery
in New Britain. Calling hours will be Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave; Meriden, CT 06450.
Dorothy G. McIe
MERIDEN -- Dorothy G. McIe, 87, of Boylston Street No., Meriden, wife of the late Earl McIe, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002 at the Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Kane, Pa., May 30, 1915, a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Galonski. Mrs. McIe was the former owner and operator of Dorothy's Religious and Gift Shop in Wallingford. She was a longtime resident of Meriden, a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, and a member of the Ladies Falcons Nest 444. She was a former President of the Democratic Women's Club of Meriden.
Mrs. McIe is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Donald Jakiela of Meriden; a daughter, Carol Lohmann of Meriden; and a sister, Helen Landa of Meriden.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Stanislaus Church at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respect Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Chester L. Polack
MERIDEN -- Chester Lawrence Polack, 75, husband of Marilyn Joy Maslar Polack of Crescent St., Meriden died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002 at the Yale New Haven Hospital.
He was born in Poland, Sept. 8, 1927, a son of the late Walter and Mary Bogdan Polack. For most of his life he was a resident of Meriden, educated in local schools and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. Mr. Polack was an Army veteran, an employee of the Meriden Fruit and Produce for many years. He was a former member of the Polish Knights, the Polish Legion of American Veterans and the Polish Falcons Nest 68.
Besides his wife, Marilyn, he is survived by three sons, Mark Polack, Peter Polack and Christopher Polack, all of Meriden; by a daughter, Patricia Polack of Colchester; and a sister, Stephanie Muzyczka of Meriden.
Relatives and friends are invited to his committal service at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden.
Doris G. Bibeau
WATERBURY -- Mrs. Doris G. (Gauthier) Bibeau, 75, of 76 Chapman Ave., died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002 at the Beacon Brook Health Center in Naugatuck. She was the wife of Andre Bibeau.
Mrs. Bibeau was born in Waterbury on May 11, 1927, daughter of the late Sinaii and Florilda (Rousseau) Gauthier. She had been a communicant of St. Margaret Church for the past 53 years. She was married at St. Ann Church on July 2, 1949 and she will be deeply missed and never forgotten. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Besides her husband of 53 years, she leaves two sons, Richard Bibeau and David Bibeau, both of Waterbury; two daughters, Linda Ziebka of Plantsville and Anne Marie Sholtes of Brookfield; and seven grandchildren, Marc Bibeau of Bristol, Stacy Bibeau of Waterbury, Amanda and Allison Ziebka of Plantsville, Zachary and Alexandra Sholtes of Brookfield and Michelle Bibeau of Waterbury.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway to St. Margaret Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Petronella M. Clemons
BRANFORD -- Petronella M. "Nell" Clemons, 53, of Baldwin Ave., Meriden passed into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002 at Connecticut Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer.
Nell was born in the Netherlands on April 8, 1949, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Van DarRtit. She came to Meriden in 1974 and worked at Meriden/Wallingford Hospital before becoming a postal worker in Middletown in 1983. Nell thought of her co-workers at the post office as her second family.
She is survived by her only child, Aimee Marie Clemons of Meriden; two sisters and one brother, all of the Netherlands; her beloved granddaughter, Brianna Maria Colvin; a special friend, Diane Mixon; several nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. at Mount Hebron Baptist Church, 84 Franklin St., Meriden. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06450. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
Mary L. Geleneau
NORTH HAVEN -- Mary Lorraine Caillouette Geleneau, 83, of 37 Temple St., North Haven, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002 at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the wife of the late George J. Geleneau Sr.
Born in Meriden on June 5, 1919, daughter of the late William Joseph and Mary Parker Caillouette. A 1937 graduate of Meriden High School, she later graduated as an RN from the St. Francis School of Nursing in 1940. She had worked as a cardiac nurse for the former Meriden-Wallingford Hospital and prior to that was an the Emergency Room nurse. She was a member of the St. Francis School of Nursing Alumni and St. Frances Cabrini Women's Club. She had also been remembered as a mentor by the many nurses she had instructed.
She was the mother of Carol Geleneau, George J. Geleneau Jr. and his wife, Roseann and William J. Geleneau; grandmother of Melissa and William J. Geleneau II. She was predeceased by a brother, John Francis Caillouette.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven Monday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Frances Cabrini Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Bruce Gordon
MERIDEN -- Bruce Gordon, 56, of Meriden, died peacefully at home on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002 following a long illness.
He was born Aug. 31, 1946 in Queens, N.Y., a son to Sylvia (Weiss) Gordon of Levittown, N.Y., and the late Paul Gordon. After very proudly serving his country as a Marine during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon returning home, Bruce attend college at the University of Florida at Gainsville. Going on to obtain a degree in Business Administration and his masters in Hospital Administration. Bruce was very proud to be a Marine, and was a very avid Gator fan. He was a parishioner of New Life Church located in South Meriden.
In addition to his mother, Sylvia, he leaves behind two brothers, Councilman Keith Gordon and his sister-in-law, Ruth of South Meriden and Glenn Gordon and his sister-in-law, Joyce of Westchester, Pa.; also niece, Kelly Gordon-Tice and her husband, Adam; a great-niece, Kayla Tice of Westchester, Pa.; one uncle, Sidney and Ruth Weiss of Pennsylvania ; and a aunt, Janice and Murray Silver of Nevada.
Calling hours will take place on Sunday, Nov. 24, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the New Life Church, 92 Main St., South Meriden. The funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. in New Life Church, with the Pastor William Marotti officiating. The burial will be private. The Gordon family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations in Bruce's name be made to the New Life Church, for that would have been his wish. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden has been entrusted with the arrangements.
