Robert W. Anderson

WALLINGFORD -- Robert W. Anderson, died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 at CT Hospice in Branford.

He leaves his brother's family, Richard and Beverly Anderson of Wallingford, Rachel Anderson of Niena, Mali and Emma Anderson of New York City.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Meriden Executive Park, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450-1004. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford is in charge of arrangements.

Ramiro Cividanes

MERIDEN -- Ramiro Cividanes, 62, Parkview St., beloved husband of Juana Cividanes-Colon, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002 at St. Raphael Hospital in New Haven.

Born March 11, 1940 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Agustin and Juana Lavoy.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Edwin Cividanes of Ponce, Puerto Rico; three daughters, Lillian Cividanes of California, Vanessa and Johana Cividanes, both of Ponce, Puerto Rico; three brothers, Manuel Cividanes of New York, Agustin Cividanes of Meriden and Jose Ramon Cividanes of Guayama, Puerto Rico; a sister, Lidia Cividanes of New York; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and burial will take place in Puerto Rico. There are no calling hours. Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden is in charge of arrangements.

Pietro DiMatteo

WALLINGFORD -- Pietro DiMatteo, 63, beloved husband of Elizabeth Fratta DiMatteo of Summit Drive, Wallingford, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

Born in Alife, Province of Caserta, Italy, a son of the late Pasquale and Rosa Morelli DiMatteo, he had been a Wallingford resident, and employed by the Marlin Corporation in North Haven for many years. He was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford.

Besides his wife Elizabeth, he is survived by his daughter, Rosa M. DiMatteo; his two sons, Pasquale DiMatteo and Antonio DiMatteo, all of Wallingford; his three sisters, Vincenzia Bucci, Rita Tartaglone, and Gina Angelillo, all of Italy; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Alfonsina Bucci.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, at 9:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will be in All Saints Cemetery Mausoleum in North Haven.

Geraldine Gardinier

MERIDEN -- Geraldine (Wuterich) (Worth) Gardinier, 89, of 51 Tulip Drive, wife of the late James E. Gardinier Sr., died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002.

Born in Meriden on Aug. 14, 1913, the daughter of the late Philip and Maude Wuterich, she had resided in Meriden most of her life. Mrs. Gardinier graduated from Meriden High School, class of 1931, and Central Connecticut State University. She was employed as a school teacher in Meriden for over 25 years, retiring in 1973. She was a member of the First Congregational Church for over 40 years, a member of church choir, and a deaconess. Additionally she was a founder of the Meriden Day of Prayer, and a tutor for Literacy Volunteers, teaching English as a second language.

She is survived by her son, Jan Worth of Meriden and Costa Rica; daughter and son-in-law, Joy (Worth) and Daniel Reardon of Southington; grandchildren, Darren Worth of Meriden, Michael Reardon of Southington and Denise McNaughton of Flushing, N.Y.; great-grandson, Ryan McNaughton; stepdaughter, Beverly (Gardinier) Timms of Rocky Hill; stepsons, Charles Gardinier of Meriden and Bruce Gardinier of Wallingford; sister, Thelma Warenda of Middletown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 5 to 7 p.m. Mrs. Gardinier's body was donated to Yale Medical School. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Mary E. Spencer

MERIDEN -- Mary Elizabeth Spencer, 86, of 89 Cheshire Road, South Meriden, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 at Coccomo Memorial Care Center. She was the wife of the late Floyd Spencer.

Born in Meriden on Dec. 23, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Frederick August and Alberta May Tefft Meyer. She was a graduate of Meriden High School and had been employed as a secretary at VNA, Western Union and SBC - SNET from which she retired. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and was a past president of the Women's Fellowship.

She is survived by a sister, Mildred "Millie" Zezeck of Meriden; a sister-in-law, Elsie Spencer of Meriden; many nieces and nephews, Curt Zimmer of Meriden, Chuck Zimmer of Meriden and Cape Cod, Debbie Zimmer Lord of Kansas, Russ Page of Georgia, James Page of Virginia, Fred Page of Wallingford, Tom Page of Meriden, Craig Zezeck of Oregon, Marcia Zezeck Curtis of Virginia, Mark Zezeck of Ohio, Connie Zezeck McDermott of Chicago, Barbara Hinkle of Meriden and Frances Spencer of Florida; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Rose Zimmer and Florine Page.

The funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Kenneth Frazier will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home one-hour prior to the funeral. If desired, contributions in Mrs. Spencer's memory may be made to The First Congregational Church, Memorial Fund, 62 Colony St., Meriden, CT 06451 or to Crystal Cathedral, Attn. Walter F. Michaelis

SOUTHINGTON -- Walter Frederick Michaelis, 90, of 241 Beechwood Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Emma Wall Michaelis.

Born in Meriden on Dec. 3, 1911, he was the son of the late William and Wilhelmina Michaelis. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and had been employed as a printer at the Waterbury Republican. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Meriden.

He is survived by his wife. He was predeceased by a brother, Lester Michaelis; and two sisters, Dorothea Renn and Edna Limmer.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Ruth M. Andersen

ANACORTES, Wash. -- Ruth Mable (Biermann) Andersen, 80, wife of the late Einar Andersen, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002 in Anacortes.

Born in New Haven, Conn., on June 25, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Amelia and Fredrick Biermann of New Haven. Ruth had resided with her husband in Wallingford for 45 years prior to moving to Anacortes, Wash., in 1998. She was a graduate of New Haven High School and St. Raphael's College, with an R.N. degree in nursing. Ruth was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Nurse Corps. She was a member of the Wallingford Garden Club, the Meriden-Wallingford Professional Nurses Association and Sons of Norway.

Ruth is survived by her brother, Fred Biermann of Guilford; a daughter, Kristi Andersen and son-in-law, Joseph Hahler of Anacortes, Wash.

A private memorial service will be held. If desired, in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Skagit Hospice, 1917 State Route 20, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98294.

Anna Andzans

MERIDEN -- Anna Andzans, 57, of Meriden, died suddenly at home on Monday, Nov. 4, 2002.

She was born Jan. 29, 1945, in Germany, a daughter of the late Janis and Lucis Andzans. She was employed by Delucos Place in Southington. Anna was active in the Southington Jaycees.

She is survived by a son, Michael Andzans of Meriden; and many dear and special friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Lilly Andzans.

Calling hours will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be private. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

John R. Eckersley

MERIDEN -- John R. Eckersley, 63, of 24 North First St., Meriden, beloved husband of Deborah Tillbrook Eckersley, passed away at home on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002.

Born in Pocatello, Idaho, on Dec. 17, 1938, John was the son of Jack J. Lewis and the late Ellen Clawsen Lewis of Uniontown, Pa. He had resided in Meriden since 1988 and had been employed by Ames Department Stores. He had previously lived in Anaheim, Calif., and Omaha, Neb., where he worked for Prudential Insurance Co.

Besides his wife, Deborah, he is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Architect John and Jill Mastera of New Canaan, Jim Mastera of Newport Beach, Calif., and Jeff Eckersley of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Jules Eckersley and Ian Morrison of Oak Park, Ill.; one grandson, Jordan Mastera; five granddaughters, Jenna and Amanda Mastera, Jessica and Justina Eckersley and Madison Mastera; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia L. and Marty Ward of Sun City, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Melvin J. and Rachel Eckersley of Cleveland, Ohio; also survived by many loving sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carl Tillbrook Jr. of Meriden and Doug and Kim Brown of Wallingford; James and Maryann Tillbrook of Durham, Mark Tillbrook of Wallingford and Donna Tillbrook of Meriden; many nieces and nephews; and a very good longtime friend, Christopher Dougan of Meriden.

John will be greatly missed by all who knew him, for he put a bit of sunshine and a smile into everyone's day.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Saturday from 4 to8 p.m. at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden with the funeral at 7 p.m. Burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Eckersley's memory may be made to Hospice Home Care, Div. of Connecticut Hospice Inc., 110 Barnes Road, Wallingford, CT 06492.
