Gary E. Collett
NEW LONDON -- Gary Eric Collett, 32, of 127 Hempstead St., formerly of 170 Long Hill Road, Wallingford died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002 at his home.
He was born in Meriden, April 26, 1970, a son of Eric (Rick) and Sue Scheiber Collett of Wallingford. Gary attended local schools and Notre Dame High School in West Haven and was a member of the Dag Hammarskjold Middle School and Notre Dame High School Marching Bands. He was a music enthusiast and played piano and saxophone. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wallingford and was an active member of the Tenants Association of Williams Apartments in New London.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Helen C. Scheiber of Groton; two aunts; an uncle; two great-aunts; and many cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 4 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 941 Old Rock Hill Road, Wallingford with the Rev. Karen Cook officiating. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. If friends so desire, gifts in his memory may be made to the Wallingford Homeless Shelter, c/o Richard Vertz, 76 Maplewood Ave., Wallingford 06492 or the Shirley Gianotti Animal Shelter Trust Fund, c/o Animal Control, 45 South Main St., Wallingford 06492. Shirley A. Corriveau
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Shirley Ann (Slicer) Corriveau, 74, a 50 year resident died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Born July 12, 1928, to the late Allie and Luella (McCarthy) Slicer in Springfield. She was a graduate of Classical High School. Shirley was the co/owner and vice president of Elm Auto School and Westfield Auto School. She was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Church and was an avid bingo player at both West Springfield Elks Club and St. Peter's Church in Westfield.
She leaves her devoted husband of 55 years, Leo T. Corriveau at home; Shirley also leaves her beloved children, David Corriveau of Wallingford, Diane Spillane of Belchertown, Mass., Donna Hoernig of Westfield, Mass., and Debra Cheetham of West Springfield; her brother, Richard Slicer of Safety Harbor, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Joseph Bilkay, Michelle Virgilio, Michael Spillane, Kurt and Erica Hoernig, Kevin, Alison and DJ Corriveau and Gary Cheetham; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Gary in 1965; by her brothers, Robert and Kenneth; and by her sister, Helen Learned.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Toomey-O'Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield, Mass., followed at 10 a.m. by a Liturgy of Christian burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Burial will follow in the parish Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Janet S. Morris
OAKDALE -- Janet S. (Latham) Morris, 67, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002 at the WW Backus Hospital. A Memorial service will be held in honor of Janet S. Morris at 1p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the First Congregational Church of Lyme, Rte 156, Hamburg, CT. Relatives and friends invited to attend.
Helen Pasensky
WALLINGFORD -- Helen Chandler Pasensky, 93, formerly of Fair St., Wallingford, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 at the Coccomo Memorial Health Care Center in Meriden. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry F. Pasensky.
Born in Wallingford, Oct. 16, 1909, a daughter of the late Henry Chandler and the late Mary Clarke Chandler, she was a lifelong Wallingford resident. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church.
Mrs. Pasensky is survived by her daughter, Kathleen A. Pasensky and her daughter and son-in-law, Maureen R. and Alfred Ercolani, all of Wallingford; her grandchildren, Renee Clark, Joseph Ercolani, Todd Ercolani, Teresa Ercolani, Jeremy Ercolani, Jill Ercolani and Jason Ercolani; her great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Joshua Clark, Nicole, Heather and Jacob Ercolani, Ryan and Tyler Ercolani, Trisha Ercolani, Tianna and Trevor Negron, Alexis Ercolani and Kaitlyn Ercolani; her great-great-granddaughter, Tamara Gully; her brothers, Walter Chandler and Robert Chandler; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Harold, Howard, George, Justin and Joseph Chandler.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Saturday from 9 to 10:15 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Patience's Memorial Fund, Coccomo Memorial Health Care Center, 33 Cone Ave., Meriden, CT 06450. Helen will truly be missed by her family.
Roy J. Santin
MERIDEN -- Roy J. Santin, 82, of Meriden, husband of Josephine Lara Santin, died suddenly Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 at MidState Medical Center.
He was born in Meriden on Feb. 9, 1921 and was a lifelong resident of Meriden. He was employed by AGC Corp., for over 10 years retiring in 1982.
Besides his wife, Josephine, he is survived by his daughter, Linda Santin in Meriden; he also leaves a sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and Charles Quatela of Worcester, Mass. He was predeceased by his brother, Irwin Santin.
The funeral and burial will be held in Mexico. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
Florence M. Triana
WEST HAVEN -- Florence M. Nadeau Triana, 93, formerly of Baggott St., West Haven passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 in Bentley Gardens. She was the widow of Amedio Triana.
Born in Canada, daughter of the late Joseph and Malvina Boucher Nadeau, she was a longtime resident of West Haven.
She was the mother of Mrs. Kenneth (Elaine) Onofrio of Milford and Mrs. Loretta Clark of Wallingford; grandmother of Kenneth and Joseph Onofrio, Lawrence and Robert Clark and Marie Maddern; sister of Rose Deschamps of Stafford Springs; also survived by six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Donat and Raymond Nadeau; sisters, Mary Chartier and Evelyn Beaulieu; and son-in-law, William A. Clark.
A funeral will be held from Maresca and Sons, 592 Chapel St., New Haven, Saturday at 10:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial in St. Louis Church at 11 a.m. Burial in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Edith DeBaise
WALLINGFORD -- Edith Ferrarino DeBaise, 91, of Fourth St., Wallingford, devoted wife of the late Domonic A. DeBaise, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.
Born in Berlin, Dec. 6, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Ceasar and Rina Valeggia Ferrarino, she had been a resident of Wallingford since 1931. She was Administrator of Medical Claims and Insurance at the former Wallace Silversmiths in Wallingford for 30 years until her retirement in 1975, and was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford.
She is survived by her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Marvin L. and Jean M. DeBaise of South Windsor; her grandson and his wife, Marcus J. and Deneen DeBaise of South Windsor; two great-grandchildren, Julia D. DeBaise and Nicholas J. DeBaise; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Elsie Ferrarino, Enes Ferrarino, Jennie Allen; and two brothers, Fred and Mario Ferrarino.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Sunday, from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 8:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery

Elizabeth R. Dowling
NORWALK -- Elizabeth R. Dowling, 87, formerly of Dryden Drive, Meriden, wife of the late Francis J. Dowling, died on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 at the Richard Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford.
Mrs. Dowling was born in Meriden on Nov. 9, 1914. She was a teacher in Meriden for 30 years. Betty, as she was known was the daughter of the late William L. and Mary Boyle Remy. She was educated in city schools and graduated from Meriden High School in 1931. She received her teaching degree from New Britain Normal School and her Bachelors degree in Education from Teachers College of CT in 1939. She began her teaching career in Middletown at age 19, shortly thereafter she transferred to the Old North Colony School in Meriden, where she was a classroom teacher and later principal. In 1941 she left teaching to marry and in the early 1950's she returned as a classroom teacher at Roger Sherman School. After retiring from teaching she was a volunteer aide at the Meriden Hospital for 10 years. She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church, the Madonna Mothers Circle, Meriden Council of Catholic Women and an active member of Connecticut Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club, the Audubon Society and the New Haven Hiking Club.
Mrs. Dowling is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Meehan of Hopkinton, N.H.; a son, Robert J. Dowling of Rowayton; and a sister, Mary Dahlke of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; she leaves six grandchildren, Robert D. and Michael J. Dowling and Lauren, Brian, Angela and Timothy Meehan; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Robert and Meghan Elizabeth Dowling; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Carl P. Remy.
The funeral will be held on Monday, Oct. 28 at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Jean M. Flis
MIDDLETOWN -- Jean Marie (Cattey) Flis, 70, of Middletown, beloved wife for 48 years of Donald R. Flis died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 at Middlesex Hospital.
Born in Torrington, she was the daughter of the late Achille Cattey and the late Catherine (Meyers) Cattey, she lived in New Britain prior to Middletown, where she has resided the past 40 years. She was employed by Stanley Works of New Britain and later KinderCare, Middletown where she was affectionately known as "Jean the cooker." Mrs. Flis was a communicant of St. Pius X Church, Middletown, a member of the Rosary Altar Society, Harvest Committee and taught many years for the CCD program.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald R. and Wendy Flis of Moodus; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Flis-Sekorski and Gary Sekorski of Rocky Hill; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward P. and Barbara Cattey of Wallingford; a sister, Joan Turek of New Britain; four loving grandchildren, Dakota, Devon, Rachel and James; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday at 10:15 a.m. from the Giuliano-Sagarino Funeral Home at Brooklawn, 511 Brook St., Rocky Hill followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St., Middletown at 11 a.m. Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Edward A. Fontanella
MERIDEN -- Edward A. Fontanella, 85, formerly of Liberty St., and the son of the late Santo and Angela Fontanella, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002 after a long illness.
He was born on July 2, 1917, educated in Meriden schools and was a former employee of the Meriden Gravure Company and the Miller Company. He was a disabled veteran of World War II, and a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.
He is survived by a sister, Linda F. Marchand; a sister-in-law, Louise Mauri Fontanella; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest Fontanella and E. Alfred Fontanella; two sisters, Lena O'Brien and Elizabeth Ives.
Friends and relatives are invited to a Mass of Christian burial on Monday, Oct. 28, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital Memorial/Honor Program, P.O. box 50, Memphis, Tenn 38101-9929 or to the Covenant House, 460 West 41st St., New York, N.Y. 10036.
