Richard T. Hardy
CHESHIRE -- Richard T. Hardy, of 140 Cook Hill Road, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in Cheshire. He was the husband of the late Marjorie Brown Hardy.
He was the father of David T. Hardy of Cheshire and Deirdre H. Clark of Wilton, N.H.; also survived by four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Elim Park, 140 Cook Hill Road, Cheshire, Thursday, Oct. 24, at 2:30 p.m. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, 493 Whitney Ave., New Haven.
Grace Jacunski
WALLINGFORD -- Grace Lewis Jacunski, 84, wife of Harry Jacunski of 2123 Ashlar Village, Wallingford, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002 at St. Raphael's Hospital, New Haven. The Rev. William Huegel of the First Baptist Church of Wallingford will be conducting a Memorial service Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 1:30 p.m. in the Activities Room of Ashlar Village, Wallingford. Nagendra M. Vyas
MERIDEN -- Nagendra Mohan Vyas (Nagu), 83, of 17 Catherine Drive, Meriden, died on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, in Glendale, West Virginia. He was born Jan. 19, 1918, in India.
Survivors include his wife, Indrakala Vyas; four children, three sons, Mahesh Vyas, Ramesh Vyas and Shiv Vyas; a daughter, Mano Sharma; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Lorraine M. Mathis
WALLINGFORD -- Lorraine M. Morin Mathis, of Doris St., passed away, Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, after a long illness at Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford.
Born in Waterbury, a daughter of the late George and Eva Mathon Morin, she had been a Wallingford resident for the past 50 years. A registered nurse, she was a graduate of Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing, and had been on the nursing staff of Yale-New Haven Hospital for 45 years until her retirement 10 years ago. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church.
She is survived by her beloved family; her daughter and son-in-law, Eva L. and John T. Mooney, with whom she resided in Wallingford; two granddaughters, Whitney L. Mooney and Sydney C. Mooney; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Marcy Morin of Oroville, Calif.; her nieces and nephews, Cathleen and Richard Rappi, Brian Sugrue and Peter Sugrue, all of Waterbury, and Jacqueline and Michael Rosa of Naugatuck; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Donald Sugrue, and her dog, Charlie.
Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Extension, Wallingford, Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Street, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
Irene M. Nawrocki
MERIDEN -- Irene M. Nawrocki, 84, formerly of 281 Swain Ave., wife of the late Lawrence S. Nawrocki, died Saturday evening, Oct. 19, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center.
She was born in Meriden, Jan. 8, 1918, a daughter of the late Thaddeus and Elizabeth Glazewski. Mrs. Nawrocki was a lifelong resident of Meriden, educated in local schools and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church. She was employed by the former Woolworth's Department Store for over 30 years before her retirement.
Mrs. Nawrocki is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Ronald Dionne of Meriden; a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Michele Nawrocki of Meriden; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Diane McKenna; four brothers; and three sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral, Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, beginning with calling hours at 8:30 a.m. in the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Stanislaus Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Keith L. Bushey
DURHAM -- Keith L. Bushey, 49, formerly of Meriden, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Southington on Dec. 24, 1952 to Alfred and Denise (Menard) Bushey of Meriden, he served 22 years in the U.S. Army, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant and had resided in Mannheim, Germany for many years with his beloved wife, Gisela (Friedrich) Bushey and his step-daughter, Tina Carmen.
Besides his parents, wife and step-daughter, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Diana Menard of Craftsbury, Vt.; three sisters, Diane Perkins of Durham, Linda Buonano of Petaluma Calif., and Jo-Anne Gawel of Southington; six brothers, Alan of Wisconsin, Danny of Meriden, Rene of Naugatuck, Andrew of Wallingford, Michael of Hamden and Patrick of Meriden; also by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and by one grand-nephew.
Keith's last duty assignment was with the HHD, 28th Transport Bn. in Mannheim, Germany. He was also Post Commander of the American Legion Rhein-Neckar Post 3 before his death. He received a Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, (4), Army Achievement Medal, (3), Good Conduct Medal, (6), and the National Defense Service Medal (2). He was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church of Meriden.
Although his family and friends will deeply miss the light and the love that he brought to their lives, he infused all those whose lives he touched, with a strength of character and spirit that will live on and sustain them forever.
The funeral will be held on Friday, Oct. 25, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at St. Laurent Church, 121 Camp St., Meriden for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial with military honors will be in State Veterans' Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Middlesex Hospice, 51 Broad St., Middletown, CT 06457.
Mary A. Carnot
PAWCATUCK -- Mary Alice (Sivigny) Carnot, 72, of Renee Drive, Pawcatuck, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002 at Westerly Hospital.
She was born in Meriden on May 19, 1930, the daughter of James and Mary Hanchruck Sivigny. She married Alfred Carnot in Wallingford on Nov. 18, 1951. They made their home there until 1975 when the moved to this area. She was an active member of St. Mary Church, Stonington, and will be remembered always for her love of oil painting, landscapes being one of her favorite subjects to capture on canvas.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by, two daughters, Renee Carnot Lund of Naugatuck and Aimee Carnot Marques of Hebron; two sons, Christopher Carnot of Pawcatuck and Carey Carnot, also of Pawcatuck; two sisters, Clara Issacco of Jacksonville, Fla. and Katherine Ames of Wallingford; two brothers, Philip Sivigny of Wallingford and Richard Sivigny of Sommersworth, N.H.; five grandchildren, Chase, Cale and Drake Carnot of Pawcatuck and Christopher Jr. and Nicole S. Carnot, also of Pawcatuck; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, James Sivigny.
A funeral will be held from Mystic Funeral Home, Rte 1, Mystic on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 9:15 a.m. with a funeral Mass at St. Mary Church, Stonington at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. The family respectfully suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 116 Washington Ave., 3rd Floor, North Haven, CT 06473.
Carmelina J. Gilbert
MERIDEN -- Carmelina J. "Cal" Gilbert, 90, of Swain Ave., Meriden, wife of the late Ernest Gilbert, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002 at Haven Health Center in Jewett City.
Born in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lucille (Misanda) Carta. Mrs. Gilbert was a lifelong resident of Meriden and was a member of the Emblem Club of the Elks organization which ran the concession stand during Monday night bingo in Meriden for many years.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Gorr and her husband, John Stifel of Voluntown, formerly of Clinton; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Lester Gorr; a son, Jack Gorr; a grandson, Jeffrey Gorr; and 10 brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. in Indian River Cemetery, Clinton. Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main St., Clinton has been entrusted with arrangements.
Marie Lacey
SOUTHINGTON -- Marie (McNerney) Lacey, 96, of 143 Belleview Ave., died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Judge J. Robert Lacey.
Born in Southington on May 14, 1906, the daughter of the late Cornelius and Mary (Martin) McNerney. She had attended local schools and graduated from Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y. Mrs. Lacey had received her RN degree from St. Francis School of Nursing in Hartford. She served as Public Health Nurse in Plainville for many years. As a friend of Bertha Wheeler, Marie was instrumental in the founding of Wheeler Clinic in Plainville. Mrs. Lacey was active in the House of Good Sheppard in West Hartford and the Alumni Association of Marymount College. She was an accomplished horsewomen and had traveled extensively throughout her life. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.
She is survived by a son, John R. Lacey of Southington, currently serving as appellate Hearing Officer for the federal September 11 Victim Fund; she also leaves several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held on Friday from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery. Frances D. Perkins
MERIDEN -- Frances D. Perkins, 88, formerly of 94 Warren St., died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at MidState Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Robert W. Perkins.
Born in Bristol on March 11, 1914, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Lovina Bowman Dodge. She had been employed as an inspector at the Napier Company and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Helen Dodge. She was predeceased by a daughter, Joyce Tamburri; a baby son, Buddy Perkins; a sister, Violet Spencer; and three brothers, George Dodge, Burton Dodge and Daniel Dodge.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Alden Barnes will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
