Lauretta T. Graham
WAWA, Pa. -- Lauretta (Thomas) Graham, 96, formerly of Meriden, died on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002.
Born in Meriden, Mrs. Graham lived in many places, including Princeton, N.J., Mohonk, N.Y., Metuchen, N.J., Normandy Farms Estates in Blue Bell, Pa., and finally Granite Farms Estates in Wawa, Pa., where she resided prior to her death. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling.
Mrs. Graham was wife of the late Morton D. Graham. She is survived by her son, Thomas D. Graham of Media, Pa.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Florence Nold. Services and interment are private.
Rose Perusse
NEW BRITAIN -- Rose (Roy) Perusse, 92, of New Britain, died Monday, Sept. 30,2002 at an area convalescent home.
Born in New Britain, she lived in Canada, Florida, East Berlin, then 15 years in New Britain and the last three years in Meriden. She was the daughter of the late Gaudios and Mary Jane (Beaudoin) Roy and the wife of the late Wilfred Perusse. She was a parishioner of St. Peter Church, and a member of St. Ann's Society of St. Peter's. While living in East Berlin, Rose was a member of the Ladies Guild of Sacred Heart Church.
Mrs. Perusse is survived by three daughters, Irene and her husband, Albert Kloos of Colorado, Colette and her husband, Richard Lallier of Meriden and Margaret and her husband, Maurice Brouillard of Southington; her son, Norman and his wife, Marie Perusse of Florida; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret Roy and Joan Roy of New Britain, Elizabeth Messenger of Utah and Sister Grace Irma of Rockville; two brothers, Wilfrid Roy of Southington and Joseph Roy of Canada; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Roger Perusse; and her grandson, Edward Kloos.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct.4, 9 a.m. from the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq., New Britain, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Church 98 Franklin Sq., New Britain. Entombment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery
Garden Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Central CT, 205 West Main St., New Britain, CT 06052 or to the Office of Radio and Television, Archdiocese of Hartford, 15 Peach Orchard Road, Prospect, CT 06712-9969, (for the daily Mass Programs).
Charles W. Sears
WALLINGFORD -- Charles W. Sears, 85, of 7th Ridge Road, Wallingford, beloved husband of Hanna M. Lynch Sears, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.
Born in Manchester, Dec. 6, 1916, he was a son of the late Charles and Margaret Lutton Sears, and had been a Worcester, Mass., resident for many years, and a Wallingford resident since 1963. He was a Brewmaster for the Worcester Brewing Company for many years and was then employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in North Haven and East Hartford until his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Major Raoul Lufbery Post No. 591. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in the Yalesville section of Wallingford.
Besides his wife Hanna, he is survived by his daughter, Eileen M. Sears; his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas C. and Deborah Sears; and his three grandchildren, Tyler Sears, Colby Sears and Emma Sears, all of Wallingford; his sister and brother-in-law, Arlyne and Arthur Hanlon of Derby; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Peg White and Jeanette Bennart.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in St. John Cemetery
in Wallingford.
Ernst G. Breitzke
OLD LYME -- Ernst G. Breitzke of Old Lyme, husband of Ruth E. (Schenk) Breitzke, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002 of complications from Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia, a rare cancer of plasma cells.
He was born in Aurora, Ill., on Nov. 16, 1916, the son of Ernst and Alvina (Both) Breitzke. He spent most of his life in Meriden, where he graduated from Wilcox Technical School. He married his wife on April 22, 1937, raised his family and was active in church and civic organizations. As a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Ernst was head deacon, served on the church council for eight years and was co-president of the Mr. and Mrs. Club. He was a member of the Meriden Chapter of DeMolay and also Master Counselor. Ernst was a 32nd degree mason and member of the Center Lodge No. 97 A.F. & A.M., Meriden and the Sphinx Temple, Newington for over 50 years. He had been drum major for 20 years for the Sphinx Temple Drum Corps and the Imperial Drum Corps. Ernst was both a championship baton twirler and amateur bowler. His service to the community included: Alderman for four years; chairman, Meriden Transit District; co-chairman of the Meriden Community Action Group; board member of the Meriden Red Cross, Adult Advisory Board and "Helping Elderly People." He established a pre-retirement program within the adult Education Division. Ernst also attended the Weicker CT, Senior Intern Program in Washington , D.C. As a journeyman electrician he was employed by major factories, retiring from General Motors, New Departure, Bristol in 1980. During his work years he was trustee and treasurer of Local Union 987, financial secretary for 16 years of Local 626, along with chairing the scholarship committee. He was president of the Meriden Labor Council and vice president for 16 years of the State Labor Council. Upon his retirement to Old Lyme in 1983 Ernst focused his energies on elderly affairs. He was first president/founder of AARP Lymes Chapter; chairman for three years of the Estuary Regional Committee of Senior Citizens; Old Lyme Municipal Agent for the Elderly for 15 years; chairman of the UAW retirees. He was chairman of the Building Committee for the Lymes Senior Center; he and his wife being instrumental in the creation of that center. Ernst was also a director of the Lymes Senior Center; Lymewood Elderly Housing, Old Lyme Commission on Aging, Old Lyme and Rogers Lake Senior Clubs, CT Coalition on Aging, Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council. Ernst was a parishioner of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Old Saybrook. His service and leadership were recognized with awards: Silver Award for Excellence in Community Activities from General Motors; 1985 "Man of the Year," Old Lyme Grange; 1987 Old Lyme "Citizen of the Year;" AARP awards 1989, 1990. In 1995 he and his wife, Ruth received the "Successful Aging Award" from Connecticut Community Care Inc. During the last months of his life, he was presented an official citation from the Connecticut General Assembly commending "his years of service on the Old Lyme Commission on Aging" and noting that his dedication to helping Old Lyme Senior Citizens :"will not be forgotten." Ernst's other interests included gardening, board games, needlepoint, jigsaw puzzles, solitaire and a good meal! He will be sorely missed especially by his "Ange."
Along with his wife, he leaves a son, Paul E. Breitzke and his wife, Maureen of New Fairfield; a daughter, Pamela R. Shine of Lebanon; a grandson, Erik P. Breitzke of Missouri; a granddaughter, Rachel L. Breitzke and her daughter, Jordyn of Rhode Island; several cousins, nephews, nieces and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his sister, Lillian Freeman; and his son-in-law, Gerald F. Shine.
The funeral will assemble at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, Beckwith Lane, Old Lyme and proceed to a 1 p.m. funeral service at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Duck River Cemetery, Old Lyme. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut, P.O. Flora D. Brown
KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Flora Emma (Dobratz) Brown, 83, a native of Meriden, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 at Tandem of Kissimmee. She was the wife of the late Bryant Ellsworth Brown, and a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Mrs. Brown was the President of the Tandem Residence's Counsel, a member of Tandem Mensa, and a championship Cribbage master. She was an inspector for the war effort in World War II, a sales representative and a cornerstone administrator in the founding of Nanfito's Roofing & Siding, Meriden.
Flora is survived by two daughters, Bryanne Nanfito of Meriden and Claudia West of Torrington; a sister, Myrtle Irvin of Meriden; a brother, Richard Dobratz of Cheshire; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association. Oakridge Funeral Care, 233 N. 9th St., Haines City, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
Catherine C. Crosby
HAMDEN -- Mrs. Catherine C. Wrynn Crosby, formerly of 230 Highland Ave., died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002 at the Whitney Manor Convalescent Center. She was the widow of Norbert G. Crosby.
She is survived by a son, Norbert J. Crosby and his wife, Anne of Wallingford; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Alberta L. Hartig
MERIDEN -- Alberta L. Hartig, 80, wife of the late Leon N. Hartig, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 at Coccomo Memorial which had been her home for some time.
Born in Meriden, the daughter of the late John and Maria Bundock Sadroschinski, she was a lifelong resident of Meriden and had attended Meriden schools. Mrs. Hartig was employed by Dr. Arthur Weiss for over 30 years, retiring at the age of 72. She was parishioner of St. Joseph Church.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Judith Agli of Branford, Pamela and Edward Zajac Sr. and Cheryl and Kurt Chesanek, all of Meriden; six grandchildren, Christin and Jeffrey Agli, Lauren and Edward Zajac Jr. and Ryan and Wendy Chesanek; and two great-grandchildren, Alivia and Sonia Agli. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rita Swabski, Florence Cessario and Marie Arnett.
The funeral will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Marion C. Hines
PINEVILLE, N.C. -- Marion C. Hines, 92, died peacefully at Lakeview Living Center, Pineville, N.C., on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1910 in Wallingford and was the widow of Norman W. Hines.
She is survived by her son, Norman A. Hines and his wife, Barbara A. Hines of Matthews, N.C.; grandson, Jeffrey N. Hines of Charlotte, N.C.; granddaughter, Pamela Hines Tankard and her husband, Steven M. Tankard of Stoney Creek, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Katherine Bowe; and brothers, James and George Daly.
A private family graveside service will be held in Wallingford at a later date. The Hines family wishes to thank the staff of Lakeview Living Center and Hospice at Charlotte for their support and kindness. The Carolina Funeral and Cremation Center, Charlotte, N.C., has charge of arrangements.
Minnie E. Runnells
BAREFOOT BAY, Fla. -- Minnie Emily Runnells, 93, of Barefoot Bay, Fla., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 18, 2002. A service to celebrate her life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 159 East Main St., Meriden on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. after which burial will take place at Walnut Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Eric Henderson will officiate at both services.
