Wanda J. Grodski
MERIDEN -- Wanda J. Grodski, 78, of 200 Avery Ave., died on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 at MidState Medical Center.
Born in Adams, Mass., on Nov. 19 1923, the daughter of the late John and Katherine (Wachala) Grodzki, she had resided in Meriden most of her life. Miss Grodski was educated in Meriden schools and graduated from Meriden High School. She was employed by New Departure, Hyatt Bearing Division of General Motors, for over 40 years, retiring in 1981. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church.
She is survived by one sister, Helen Grodzki; one brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Carol Grodzki and one brother-in-law, Joseph Gaj, all of Meriden; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Sophie Gura, Josephine Gaj and Mary Shemkovitz; and three brothers, Joseph, Frank and Stanley Grodzki.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 10:45 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 11:30 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Minnie E. Runnells
BAREFOOT BAY, Fla. -- Minnie Emily Runnells, 93, of Barefoot Bay, Fla., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 18, 2002.
Minnie was born in Howland, Maine, Aug. 20, 1908. She graduated from Howland High School in 1926, and in 1930 from the University of Maine in Orono, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi, the Math Club and was active in basketball. She was awarded a Life Certificate by the State of Maine, licensing her to teach in any Maine public school for life. Minnie taught math at Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln, Maine. She remembered all her students by name (and their escapades) for her entire life. They must have been quite attached to her as well, keeping her as their advisor for years. The last reunion she attended at their request was for one of their 50 year reunions. Her career in Maine also included cosmetology and insurance. In 1942 she moved to Meriden, and worked at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft until her retirement in 1971. She was a member of the Howland Baptist Church while in Maine, and the First United Methodist Church in Meriden for over 50 years. Minnie was devoted to her family and a "second mother" to her younger sisters, nieces and nephews. She loved young people (who could do no wrong!) and was an active advisor of a youth square dance club, the "Ketchallaits," that traveled throughout New England for several years.
She was predeceased by her parents, Benjamin O. and Gertrude A. Runnells; a sister, Gladys Raymond; and a niece, Gertrude (Trudy) Brys. Survivors include her three sisters, Charlotte Henry, Shirley Watson and Barbara McLean; along with her loving nieces, nephews and their children. Minnie was always ready to help everyone and will be greatly missed. Heaven must have needed a good person, so she was called to eternal life.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 159 East Main St., Meriden on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. after which burial will take place at Walnut Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Eric Henderson will officiate at both services.
Margaret Falk
CHESHIRE -- Mrs. Margaret (Willey) Falk, 83, of 167 Lanyon Drive, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the wife of Charles J. Falk.
Mrs. Falk was born Dec. 8, 1918, in Schenectady, N.Y., daughter of the late Arthur K. and Nettie (Brush) Willey and lived in Cheshire since 1957. She was a 1940 graduate of St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., where she received a bachelor of science degree in mathematics. She was an avid skier and golfer into her 80s. Mrs. Falk was a member of the 80+ Ski Club; an avid reader and bridge player, and also enjoyed bowling. She was a former Girl Scout leader in Cheshire.
Besides her husband of Cheshire, she leaves two sons, Donald A. Falk of Cheshire and Thomas C. Falk of Madbury, N.H.; two daughters, Margaret E. "Peggy" Mar of Wilmington, Mass., and Anne K. Falk of Portland, Maine; a brother, Arthur K. Willey Jr. of Kensington, Md.; two sister, Charlotte Bergman of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Evelyn Keene of Advance, N.C.; and nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Helen Lewis.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in Hillside Cemetery. Richard T. Hardy
CHESHIRE -- Richard T. Hardy of 140 Cook Hill Road, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002. He was the husband of the late Marjorie Brown Hardy.
He was the father of David T. Hardy of Cheshire and Deirdre H. Clark of Wilton, N.H.; also survived by four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
He was a District Manager with the F.S. Payne Elevator Co., in New Haven for 45 years, prior to retirement. He was a former resident of North Haven and was a member of the Planning and Zoning Board in North Haven in the 1950's. He was a former member of the New Haven Lion's Club, the High Lane Club, the Connecticut Builder's Congress, the Spring Glen Church, and a former president of the Resident's Council at Elim Park. He was a graduate of Rutgers University in 1932.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel at Elim Park, Cook Hill Road, Cheshire, at a time to be announced. Ellen Morand
SOUTHINGTON -- Ellen "Eleanor" Morand, 81, formerly of 50 South Center St., died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002. She was the wife of the late Edward Morand.
Born in Clinton, Mass., the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Whitney. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at the Iron Kettle in Southington. Mrs. Morand was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon LaFlamme of Southington two step-children, Kathryn McNamara-Bosse of Bristol and Edward G. Morand of Virginia; 10 grandchildren, including Kathleen Conniff and Tamara LaFlamme; 14 great-grandchildren, including Joshua, Jacob, Nicholas and Delia.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Grace United Methodist Church, 121 Pleasant St., Southington, CT 06489.
Bronislaus Stabach
BOOTHBAY HARBOR, Maine -- Bronislaus " Ben" Stabach, 69, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
He was born on Sept. 23, 1933 in Meriden, the son of the late Stanislav Stabach and Eleanora Gogola Stabach. He was raised in Meriden, where he attended St. Stanislaus School. After graduating from Wilcox Technical School, he began his lifetime career in carpentry. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a longtime member of the Meriden Ski Club, and belonged to the Meriden Striper Club. Many summer weekends were spent fishing in Charlestown, R.I., and deer hunting in Vermont was an annual tradition. His work took him and his family to St. Thomas USVI in 1969 and then to Fayston, Vt., where he lived and worked for over 20 years. In 1993, he moved to Boothbay, Maine, working part-time at the Boothbay Region YMCA, where he made many friends and continued his love for fishing. He was a people person who enjoyed meeting new people, socializing, and telling stories.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by his sister, Leocadia "Lee" Retallack; brothers, Frank Stabach, Louis Stabach, Joseph Stabach and Eugene "Charlie" Stabach. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Mary Ann Baraldi Stabach of Boothbay; daughter, Mary Ellen Stabach of Wiscasset, Maine; son, Michael Stabach of Warren, Vt.; twin brother, Edward Stabach of Portland; sisters, Genevieve "Jenny" Wawrzeniak of Ocala, Fla., Irene Curtis of Madison; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m. in the Coastal Club Room at the Boothbay Region YMCA for a celebration of his life. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church in Portland at a later date. George W. Dombroski Sr.
WALLINGFORD -- George W. Dombroski Sr., 80, beloved husband of Antonette Woronick Dombroski, of East Side Drive, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at MidState Medical Center.
Mr. Dombroski was born in Wallingford, Nov. 21, 1921, a son of the late Stanley and Viola Merski Dombroski, and was a lifelong resident here. He had been a foreman at Allegheny-Ludlum Steel Corporation for many years until his retirement, and was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Church. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a recipient of the Bronze Star, and had been a member of the Polish League of American Veterans of Wallingford.
Besides his wife, Antonette, he is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard J. Dombroski Sr. and Beverly C. Dombroski of Houston, Texas , and George W. Dombroski Jr. and Ann P. Dombroski of Wallingford; is daughter and son-in-law, Carol A. DiCarlo and North Haven Police Chief, James X. DiCarlo of North Haven; four grandchildren, Richard J. Dombroski Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C., Derek G. Dombroski of Kensington, Md., Kristin M. DiCarlo and Michelle L. DiCarlo of North Haven; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Edward Dombroski and John Dombroski.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Wallingford, Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday from the Wallingford Funeral Home at 9 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to SS. Peter and Paul Church, 139 North Orchard Street, Wallingford, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment, with military honors will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery

Leonard G. Fifield
WALLINGFORD -- Leonard G. Fifield, 64, beloved husband of Ann Williamson Leighton Fifield, of Crestview Terrace, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford.
Born in Laconia, N.H., Oct. 8, 1937, the son of Leonard V. and Rita Eleanor Pellerin Fifield of New Britain and Hallandale, Fla., he had been a toolmaker at Johnson and Johnson-Criticon of Southington for many years until his retirement. He had served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Major Raoul Lufbery Post No. 591 in Wallingford, the Wallingford Lodge of Elks No. 1365, and the Falcons of Southington.
Besides is wife and parents, he is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Lori L. and Russ Warner of Wallingford, and Jennie and David Scott of Cocoa, Fla.; his two sons and daughter-in-law, Scott Fifield of Cocoa, and Dean M. and Margaret S. Leighton of Wallingford; several grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and George Hary of New Britain; his brother, Wayne Fifield of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday from 12:15 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice.
William K. McGrath
MERIDEN -- William K. McGrath, 48, of 64 South First St., died Sept. 27, 2002, at Yale New Haven Hospital after a short illness. He was the former husband of Liane Thompson-Dillard, and a beloved father to Ryan M. McGrath.
He was born Nov. 4, 1953, in Southington, a son to the late William C. and Doris (Hewitt) McGrath. He was a parishioner of All Saints Church in Meriden.
In addition to his cherished son, Ryan and former spouse, Liane, he leaves a brother, Walter McGrath; sister, Dawn McGrath, both of Meriden; and a very special aunt, Norma Hewitt.
Calling hours will take place on Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 East Main St., Meriden. Funeral service and burial will be private. It is asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to his beloved son, Ryan M. McGrath, 64 South First St., Meriden.
