Frank T. Babinitz
SOUTHINGTON -- Frank T. Babinitz, 94, of 426 West St., moved to see his heavenly father on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002 at the Southington Care Center. He was the husband of 51 years of Caroline (Saxl) Babinitz who was at his side.
Frank was born in New York City on Aug. 8, 1908, and was the son of the late Rudolph and Katherine (Opsul). He moved to Southington in 1917 and graduated from local schools and the Pequot Business School. He served for 39 months in World War II, serving in the 7th Army Air Force in Hawaii . He was then transferred to the 20th Air Force and was stationed in the Marianna Islands. He also served on the Island of Zapan and at North Fields on the Tinian Island .On returning ,he worked with his father in the auto body repair business, eventually becoming its proprietor. He retired in 1960. Frank was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 15 and was a Third Degree Knight. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 72. He was also a volunteer for the Southington Nurses, American Red Cross and the Calendar House. He was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sisters, Ann Prewein of Falmouth, Mass., Helen Masopust of Thomaston and Rose Galayda of Southington; and a dear friend of the family, Ann; along with several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Thomas Church for a Mass at 9:30a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, with military honors. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of Central CT., c/o Visiting Nurse and Home Care Services of Central CT Inc., 40 East St., Plainville 06062.
Paul A. Blais
MERIDEN -- Paul A. Blais, 85, of Westfield Road, Meriden, formerly of Elizabeth Court, Rocky Hill, died Wednesday Aug. 28, 2002 in the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the husband of the late Gilberte "Betty" Vezina Blais.
Born in East Angus, Province of Quebec, Canada, Dec. 16, 1916, a son of the late Arthur and Alice Duquette Blais, he had been raised in Berlin, N.H., until 1943 when he moved to Hartford and also had lived in West Hartford, East Hartford, and Rocky Hill before moving to Meriden in February. Mr. Blais had been the proprietor of the Hartford Hilton Hotel Barber Shop for 30 years. He also had been a Hartford radio commentator for 15 years at WKNB and WEXT delivering a Sunday morning program called the "Paul Blais Show" which featured music by French artists.
Mr. Blais is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Donald Pyers of Wallingford; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Shirley Blais of Windsor Locks and Michael and Lynne Blais of Berlin; his two brothers, Constant Blais of Berlin, N.H., and Marcil Blais of Manchester, N.H.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Pricille Vaillancourt; and his brothers, Valerien Blais and Herve Blais.
His family will receive relatives and friends in The Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from The Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 noon. Interment, in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the American Heart Association 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT. 06492.
Mary Coccagna
SOUTHINGTON -- Mary (Luponio) Coccagna, 92, of Buckland St., Plantsville section, died Monday Aug. 26, 2002 at Tandem Health Care. She was the widow of Bartolomeo Coccagna.
Born in Southington on July 5, 1910, the daughter of the late Valentino and Assunta (Cimenelli) Luponio. She and her husband ran a small farm on South Main St., in Plantsville for many years. Many years ago she had worked at the Ball and Socket in Cheshire and during World War II she was employed at Peck Stow & Wilcox and she had also worked at Allied Control Co. Mrs. Coccagna was a member of the Calendar House and spent many hours working on hand made crafts. She was a parishioner of St. Aloysius Church.
She is survived by two sons, Valentino Coccagna and Abramo and his wife, Loretta Coccagna, all of Southington; two daughters, Carmela and her husband, Arthur Bazzano of Meriden and Rita and her husband, Alfred Ingriselli of Plantsville; 10 grandchildren, Anthony, Nancy and Lillian Coccagna, Carol Ladd, Shannan Lane, Jennine Vosburgh, Maryann Kehrein, Valerie Kazlowski, John Ingriselli and Christine Gerrish; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was predeceased by two sisters, Beatrice Crispino, Rose DeFranco; and a brother, Angelo Luponio.
The funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Aloysius Church for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville, CT 06479.
Robert E. Hicks
MERIDEN -- Robert E. Hicks, 76, husband of the late Irene Finnigan Hicks, died on Monday, Aug. 26, 2002 at Connecticut Hospice.
Born in Meriden on July 8, 1926, he was a lifelong Meriden resident. Mr. Hicks was employed by the State of Connecticut as a nurse for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army and was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church. He was a member of the A.O.H., American Legion, PLAV and the VFW. He leaves many friends.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial to be held on Friday, Aug. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
Sharon P. LeGault
CHESHIRE -- Sharon Patricia LeGault, 52, of Wiese Road, Cheshire, beloved wife of Anthony Louis LeGault died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002 in her home.
Sharon was born on Sept. 1, 1949, in Michigan, daughter of LaVerne and Marion Stone of Sylvania, Ohio. Sharon had resided in Connecticut since 1983. She was employed at Cooper Instruments in Middlefield, as a Marketing Manager. She traveled throughout the country and was considered an expert in the field of food safety. She is published throughout industry trade journals and various publications. She was a desired and sought after speaker and presenter at conventions and seminars. She was a Sponsor Board member of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF), she held ServSafe Train the Trainer Certification. Women's Foodservice Forum (WFF) - Member and Mentor Program, UL Standards Committee - Consumer Expectations and Infrared Use in Foodservice, CFP HACCP Committee - Conference for Food Protection (FDA-Model Food Code,) QS9000 Champion, Kaizen Blitz Trainer (Lean Manufacturing), FMEA, Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME) - Member, American Marketing Association (AMA) Advisory Panel.
Loved and adored by her entire family, Sharon was a beautiful and loving soul whose altruistic qualities were ever present. For all of those who knew her, her existence in their lives will truly be missed. Aside from her husband and parents, Sharon leaves behind three children, daughter, Kristin Lombardi and her husband, Keith of Farmington; son, Stephen LeGault and his wife, Cynthia of Storrs and son, Randall LeGault of Cheshire; two grandchildren, Paige Alexandra and Kate Olivia; her brother, LaVerne Jr. Stone of Minnesota and brother and sister, Thomas Stone and Janette Cornell of Toledo, Ohio; as well as a large extended family.
Funeral Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 South Main St., Cheshire to the Church of the Epiphany for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Leonardo C. Suzio
MERIDEN -- Leonardo C. Suzio, 71, of 187 Brownstone Ridge, husband of Henrietta Altobello Suzio, died on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002 at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven.
Born in Meriden on Feb. 25, 1931, the son of the late Leonardo and Mary Costable Suzio, he was a lifelong Meriden resident. Mr. Suzio had attended Meriden schools and was a 2nd generation owner of Suzio York Hill Companies. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Army in Germany. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Mr. Suzio was a life member of Unison Club, a corporator of the Meriden Boys' Club, the 1995 CT "Ready-Mixed Concrete Man of the Year," a member of the North Italian Club, a former member of the Lions Club, and a friend of many charities and civic organizations in the area. He enjoyed his family, gardening and fishing.
Besides his wife, Henrietta, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Cheryl Ann Suzio and Linda S. and Robert Munson, all of Meriden; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Leonardo H. Suzio of New Haven, Scott and Joanne Suzio and Henry E. (Ric) and Lisa Suzio, all of Meriden. He was predeceased by a son, Steven J. Suzio. He was also survived by eight grandchildren, Matthew, Erica and Lucas Munson and Abby, Elizabeth, Steven, Carly and Ashley Suzio; a brother, Lorenzo F. Suzio of Meriden; mother-in-law, Josephine "Sis" Altobello of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial to be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden. Evelyn E. Timms
MERIDEN -- Evelyn Elizabeth Timms of 455 Broad St., died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002 four days before her birthday at Brook Hollow Health Care Center, surrounded by her family. The family would like to thank the staff at Brook Hollow for their loving care.
Born in Meriden, she was the daughter of the late Gustave and Elizabeth Dahlke Ness. She was employed as an inspector at International Silver Company and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Meriden Senior Center.
She is survived by a son, James Timms of Bellevue, Neb.; a sister, Laura Lamothe of Meriden; a niece, Denise Yale of Meriden; two great-nieces, Kelly Yale and Stacy LaValle, both of Meriden; and a great-great-niece, Brooke LaValle of Meriden, from whom she received special comfort in her last days. She was predeceased by two sisters, Edna E. Zukowski and Mildred Ness.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church. The Rev. Wallace Merdinyan will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. Mary Jane Miles Ives
PULASKI, Tenn. -- Mary Jane Miles Ives, 79, of Pulaski, Tenn., died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, in the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation of Ardmore, Tenn. She was the wife of the late John Clark Ives.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joan Ives Parisi and Robert F. Parisi of Wallingford.
The funeral is Saturday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carr and Erwin Funeral Home, 1228 East College St., Pulaski, TN.
Mark W. Lamare
SOUTHINGTON -- Mark W. Lamare, 45, of Yorktown Road in Southington died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002. He was the husband of Carey Beth Jones Lamare.
Born in Fort Kent, Maine, March 21, 1957, son of Rinette Daigle Lamare and the late Rene Lamare, he was a longtime Southington resident. Mark worked as a Corrections Officer for the State of Connecticut and owned and operated Concrete Sealers Unlimited of Southington. Mark served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.
In addition to his beloved wife, Carey Beth and his mother, Rinette, he is survived by his daughter, Melissa Lamare, who was the "apple of his eye;" three sisters and their husbands, Miriam and Gary Liska of Cheshire, Gail and Kim Stavis of New Hampshire and Debbie and Greg Nesta of Wethersfield; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Leroy and Violet Jones of Southington; his two brothers-in-law, Leroy Jones Jr. and Paul Eagles; and many uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews; and hundreds of friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 2, with a Mass of Christian burial at Mary Our Queen Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in South End Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, Sept. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville. Aurea Neris
MERIDEN -- Aurea (Abby) Neris Galarza, 49, passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002 in Meriden surrounded by her family and friends.
Born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, March 9, 1953, a daughter of Eliseo Neris and Amelia Galarza.
She is survived by her son, Luis A. Medina (Polito) of Apopka, Fla.; and her daughter, Ivelisse Medina of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico; and her two grandchildren, Quelzalis and Jay; Aurea also leaves six sisters and three brothers, Elsa Hernandez of Meriden, Jose Neris of Shelby, N.C., Minerva Neris of Caguas, PR, Johnny Neris of San Lorenzo, PR, Marisol Neris of Meriden, Mirta I Neris of Waterbury, Luz E. Neris of Meriden, Jesus A. Neris of San Lorenzo, PR, and Jannette Neris of Queens, N.Y.; her 14 nieces and nephews. Let us not forget her many special aunts, uncles and cousins.
Aurea was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend. The Neris family would like to extend their gratitude to Ramon and Elena Medina of Meriden, Dr. Nadkarni, R and Amy and Ginny from MidState VNA & Hospice Home Care Services for their love and support they shared with Aurea during her last months of her battle with breast cancer.
