Warren S. Young
WALLINGFORD -- Warren S. Young of Celestial Lane, Wallingford, and Holmes Beach, Fla., passed away on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 1, 1927, a son of the late Gertrude and H. Robert Young of Yalesville. Mr. Young was employed by Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation in Wallingford for 32 years until his retirement and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Navy. He was a communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Wallingford, a member of Compass Lodge No. 9 AF & AM, and the American Legion Shaw Sinon Post No. 73, both of Wallingford, the Wallingford Rod and Gun Club, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Stanley Budleski Post No. 9965, of Yalesville.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean Szad Young; and three daughters and their husbands, Susan and Phil Walton and Shelley and Bill Mongillo, of Wallingford and Cathy and Michael MacKenzie of Florida; he also leaves seven grandchildren, Hayley, Philip and Ryan Walton, Geoffrey and Allison Mongillo, all of Wallingford, Allen Hubener and Warren Michael O'Bannon, of Florida; his two sisters, Virginia (Mrs. Jack) McCarthy of Wallingford, and Verna (Mrs. Charles) Rhodes of Rocky Hill; along with many nieces, nephews, and many friends here and in Florida. He was predeceased by a sister, Mabel Higgins; and a brother, Robert Young.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., in Wallingford, Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Wallingford Funeral Home. Interment will be in the In Memoriam Cemetery

Alphonse A. Beliveau
MERIDEN -- Alphonse A. Beliveau, 68, of 83 Crown Street Ext., husband of Joyce (Brown) Beliveau, died on Aug. 8, 2002, at MidState Medical Center.
Born in Croydon, N.H., on Jan. 30, 1934, the son of the late Aimee and Evelyn Streeter Beliveau, he had resided in Meriden for 41 years. Mr. Beliveau attended schools in New Hampshire and was employed by Pratt & Whitney in North Haven for 31 years, retiring in 1992. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Air Force.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Denise Beliveau, Robert and Rachel Beliveau, and John and Kristina Beliveau, all of Meriden; one granddaughter, Alesha; four step-grandchildren, Missy, Molly, Troy, and Samantha; one sister, Exelia Wright of Newport, H.H.; also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Rosana; and a brother, Russell. Beliveau.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside service in Walnut Grove Cemetery
on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at 11 a.m. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
Anthony A. Elia
SOUTHINGTON -- Anthony A. Elia, 78, of 34 Hobart St., died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of Emily (Dantino) Elia.
Mr. Elia was born in Waterbury on Feb. 14, 1924, a son of the late Sebastian and Theresa (Lagonegro) Elia. He was retired as a Draftsman from Tech Systems in Thomaston and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served in the third wave at Utah Beach during the Invasion of Normandy and also in the South Pacific and at Iwo Jima. He was a life member of the Oakville V.F.W.
Besides his wife, Mr. Elia is survived by one daughter, Arlene T. Bianchini of Prospect; one son, Tony Elia of Prospect; three sisters, Rose Guiliuzza of Seymour, Josephine Miller and Carmella Elia, both of Waterbury; one brother, Domenic Constantino of Waterbury; and three grandchildren. Mr. Elia was predeceased by a son, Michael Anthony Elia.
Graveside funeral services and burial with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Platt Road, in Watertown. Family and friends are asked to please meet at the Cemetery for 9:45 a.m. Calling hours are Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Shelter, 114 Benedict St., Waterbury, CT.
Robert D. Ferrauolo Sr.
WALLINGFORD -- Robert D. Ferrauolo Sr., 54, of Park Pond Circle, died unexpectedly, Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the beloved husband of Anna Jorgovan Ferrauolo.
Born in Wallingford, March 22, 1948, he was a son of Mary J. Grenade Ferrauolo of Wallingford and the late Anthony A. Ferrauolo, and had been a lifelong resident. He had been employed by CYTEC Industries in Wallingford for the past 30 years, and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville.
Besides his wife, Anna and his mother, Mary, he is survived by his daughter, Lisa A. Ferrauolo; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert D. Ferrauolo Jr. and Tara Ferrauolo; his two grandsons, Nicholas Anthony Ferrauolo and Zachary Ryan Ferrauolo, who affectionately called him "Poppy"; his sister and brother-in-law, Lena L. and Robert Bilodeau, all of Wallingford; his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony J. and Marilyn Ferrauolo of Wallingford, and Frank E. "Cookie" and Linda Ferrauolo of South Meriden; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth M. Malavasi
WALLINGFORD -- Ruth M. Kelly Malavasi, 81, of Pond Hill Road, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002 in the MidState Medical Center in Meriden, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of 55 years of Nello A. Malavasi.
Born in Bridgeport, May 31, 1921, a daughter of the late Martin and Mary Kelly, she was a Wallingford resident for 45 years. She was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Malavasi is survived by her son, Edward Malavasi of Wallingford; her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Bill Stevens of Durham; her cherished granddaughter, Sara Stevens of Durham; her three sisters, Agnes Doll of Wallingford, Mary McDaniel of Shelton and Loretta Roberts of Vacaville, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews, who were dear to her heart. She was predeceased by her sister, Edna Ryder; and her brother, Walter Kelly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass of Christian burial Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford. James F. Mezzi
WALLINGFORD -- James F. Mezzi, 22, of Oakdale Circle, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2002. He was the beloved son of Leona M. Ford, with whom he resided, and Andrew J. Mezzi of Wallingford.
Born Feb. 16, 1980, he attended local schools and was a lifelong Wallingford resident.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his sister, Katherine M. Mezzi of Wallingford; her brother, Andrew T. Mezzi of Vermont; his maternal grandparents, John M. Ford and Harriett M. Ford, both of Wallingford; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Mary Mezzi.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville, Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church, Yalesville, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden.
Alicia Silva
MERIDEN -- Alicia Silva, 81, of 76 Butler St., wife of the late Arturo Hernandez, died Aug. 10, 2002, at an area nursing facility. Alicia was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Paula Ortiz.
She leaves to mourn her passing, five sons, Radames, Hector, William Silva, all of New York, John Silva of Florida and Ernie Silva of California; six daughters, Zoraida Cacolicho of New York, Mirta Holder and Judith Silva, Yvonne Silva, all of Meriden, Evelyn Silva and Yvette Silva, both of New York; 36 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, Aug. 13, beginning at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Calling hours will be Monday, Aug. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 East Main St., Meriden, has been entrusted with assisting the family.
Dr. Henry C. Werba, Ph.D.
CHESHIRE -- Dr. Henry C. Werba, Ph.D., 68, of 30 Fernwood Lane, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at his home in Cheshire.
Dr. Werba was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, May 5, 1934. He emigrated out of the ruins of post World War II Germany to the United States when he was 16, ultimately being granted citizenship through persistence and a special act of Congress. Through hard work, diligence, and with talent, he ascended through the socio-economic strata. He earned a Ph.D. in German from the University of Connecticut and worked as professor of foreign languages at Southern Connecticut State University for many years until his retirement in 1992. He was fluent in six languages, including English, German, Spanish, Czech, Russian and French.
Epitomizing his ideal of the renaissance man, he had many interests, pursued many endeavors, and cultivated many diverse talents during his life. He valued culture and the arts and was an accomplished concert violinist, composer, sculptor, painter, and award-winning photographer. He belonged to several professional associations. As a practical compliment to these artistic achievements, he also authored several college textbooks, built his own house, rode motorcycles, developed and managed residential rental properties, and reconditioned pianos for many years.
An honorable man of high ideals and principles, his passing is a loss not only to his family and friends, but to our society and world. He will be remember and missed.
He leaves his ex-wife, Rosemarie Werba; two sons, Alexander and Roland Werba, both of Cheshire; a daughter, Denise Lessow of Bloomington, Ind.; a sister, Irene Klenk of Munich, Germany.
A memorial gathering will be held Monday, Aug. 12, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the Slater Funeral Home, 242 So. Main St., Cheshire. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
Bruce T. Cole
MYSTIC -- Bruce Thomas Cole, 85, of Avon Place, Mystic, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002 at Mariner Health at Pendleton, where he had been a patient for the past five weeks.
He was born in New York City, Aug. 11, 1917, son of the late Thomas H. and Harriett Leete Cole. He married the former Agnes Ross on Jan. 1, 1941, in the little church around the corner in New York City. She died in 1992. Mr. Cole was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the medical detachment in Ft. Riley, Kansas. Mr. Cole had been employed as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor by the State of Connecticut Department of Education, for 30 years, prior to his retirement in 1974. He had been a resident of Meriden for many years where he was a member of the South Trinity Methodist Church, and served as a local preacher. He moved to Mystic in 1984. He was a member of the Old Mystic Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Barbara Cole of Groton; two brothers, Roger H. Cole of Stillwater, N.Y., and David R. Cole of Lakewood, Colo.; and five grandchildren, Courtney Cole, Lauren Cole, Katie Cole, Jerrica Cole and Caleb Cole. He was predeceased by a daughter, Charlotte Ann Fanotzzi.
The funeral will be held at the Old Mystic Methodist Church, Main St., Old Mystic on Thursday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
