Georgine E. James
SOUTHINGTON -- Georgine E. (Paul) James, 89, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002 at the Southington Care Center. She was the wife of the late Carl James.
Born on Oct. 7, 1912 in Ireland, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Nora (Toughy) Paul. She was hair dresser and was employed locally. She was also a parishioner of Mary Our Queen Church.
She is survived by two brothers, Charles and Thomas Sullivan, both of Southington; three sisters, Elizabeth Gara of Orange, Noreen Pintarich of Southington and Leola Topshe of Vermont; along with several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. from the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to Mary Our Queen Church for a Mass at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Donations my be made in her memory to the Southington Care Center, 45 Meriden Ave., or to The Orchards, 34 Hobart St., both in Southington.
Harold A. Lamphier
MERIDEN -- Harold A. Lamphier, 100, of Bellevue Ave., Meriden, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002 in the Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Meriden. He was husband of the late Margaret J. McLean Lamphier.
Born in Bristol, April 12, 1902, a son of the late Alle Alfred Lamphier, former owner of the Lamphier Funeral Home, and the late Louise Wilcox Case Lamphier, he was a Meriden resident since 1919. Mr. Lamphier had been the proprietor of Lamphier Paint and Wallpaper Co. formerly on West Main St., in Meriden, for many years and later had worked for Color Mart Inc., of Middletown until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in the U.S. Army and also had served in the National Guard, the Connecticut State Guard, Connecticut Home Guard, and was active in Civil Defense. He later had served as Chief of Public Shelter. He was an active Mason affiliated with many organizations within the fraternity including the Center Lodge No. 97 AF and AM, Meridian Lodge No. 77 AF and AM, Keystone Chapter No. 27, R.A.M. Hamilton Council No. 27, R and M, St. Elmo Commandary No. 9, Knights Templar, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, 32nd degree of Valley of Bridgeport, Sphinx Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Hartford. He was the Director Emeritus of the Meriden Masonic Temple Foundation having served as House Chairman and Property Chairman from 1962 to 1994. He was the past president of the Arabian Shrine Club and a member of the Sphinx Kaaban Club, the Caravan Club, the Zem Zem Club, and the Oasis Club. He had been the Sphinx Temple Potentate's Aide, the Past President and honorary life member of the Sphinx Director's Staff, Past Noble Grand Knight of the Meriden Center Lodge No. 68 I.O.O.F, where he had been a member since 1929 and also had served as Past President and Treasurer. (He had transferred his membership to the Hancock Lodge No. 28 in South Meriden) Mr. Lamphier also had been a member and Past President of the Meriden Lions Club also serving as Past Zone Chairman and Past Deputy District Governor. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Meriden since 1921.
Mr. Lamphier is survived by his two daughters, Louise (Mrs. Gordon) Fearn of Las Vegas, Nev., and Sally Ann (Mrs. Theodore) Simon of Meriden; two grandchildren, Barry Fearn and Margaret Fearn Rarick; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his six brothers, Frank Alfred, Horace Clayton, George Leland, J. Hubert, C. Sherman, and Kenneth W. Lamphier.
His family will receive relatives and friends in The Yalesville Funeral Home 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the First Congregational Church of Meriden. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. William M. Mongillo
SOUTHINGTON -- William M. "Bill" Mongillo, 42, of West Center St., in Southington died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002 at home.
Born Oct. 2, 1959, son of John S. and Lois M. Miller Mongillo, he had been a lifelong Southington resident. Bill worked for Dalton Enterprises in Cheshire and had service in the National Guard for four years.
Besides his parents, John and Lois of Southington, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, John and Carla Mongillo; his brother, David Mongillo; his sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Michael Guarino, all of Southington; three nieces, Erica Citrullo and Melanie and Annie Mongillo; three nephews, Max Mongillo and Jake and Cameron Guarino; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and two special friends, Tim and Chris Tack.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 12, at 9 a.m. from the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church. Burial will follow in South End Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, Aug. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Giuseppe Secondo
SOUTHINGTON -- Giuseppe Secondo, 87, of 127 Water St., died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002 at home. He was the husband of Beatrice (Rose) Cimmino Secondo.
Born on Oct. 10, 1914 in Castelcampagno Province Caserta, Italy, he was the son of the late Domenico and Maria (Iacobucci) Secondo. He was a veteran of the Italian Army. He was employed at Ideal Forging and was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Domenico and his wife, Charlene Secondo of Southington; three daughters, JoAnne and her husband, Robert Specyalski, Maria Marcuccio and Deograzia and her husband, Domenico Cimmino, all of Southington; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; a sister, Filomena Sanfelice of Sudbury, Canada; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Horace, John and Pacifico.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Thomas Church for a Mass at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Joyce E. Pond
MERIDEN -- Joyce E. Pond, 68, of Meriden, wife of Richard D. Pond, died early Thursday morning, Aug. 8, 2002 at home.
Born in New York on Oct. 8, 1933, she was educated in New York schools and had resided in Meriden since 1968.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Laurie A. McIntyre of Meriden and her fiance', Robert DeAngelis of Southington; one son, Brian K. Pond of Meriden; two grandsons, Michael McIntyre and his wife, Roxanne of Wallingford and Daniel F. McIntyre II of Meriden; three great-grandchildren, Danielle F. McIntyre, Kaitlyn D. McIntyre and Daniel F. McIntyre III; five sisters, Jean Meyers of New York, Linda Swisher and her husband, Jay of Tennessee and Verna Milks, Rae Annette Beautes and her husband, Richard and Renee Gaylord, all of New York; one brother, Ralph DePue and his wife, Wanda of Pennsylvania ; also several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. A private service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
John F. Decker
SOUTHINGTON -- John F. "Jack" Decker, 81, of Southington, husband of Doris (Ritchie) Decker, died on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002 at Southington Care Center.
He was born Jan. 29, 1921 in Clarks Green/Clarks Summit, Pa. John was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Alice (Hunter) Decker; and his sister, Elizabeth Decker.
He is survived by his daughter, Judith (Decker) Sirois and her husband, Wilfred of Wells, Maine; son John Decker of Plainville; step-daughters, Donna Salsbury of Greensboro, N.C., Nancy Barbier of Southington, Beth D'Agostino and her husband, Peter of Southington and Carol Misbach of Plainville; he also leaves 10 grandchildren.
John enlisted in the Navy on Dec. 7, 1941 and served five years in the Amphibious Forces under General McArthur. It was during this tour of duty that he met Stanley T. Parsons, and after their discharge from the Navy, together they formed the Parsons Buick Co. of Plainville in 1948. He was predeceased by his partner, Stan in 1986. In his 53 years of business, Jack was involved in many organizations. He served on Buick's National Dealer Council in 1973, in 1974 he was a founder and first president of the Greater Connecticut Buick Dealers Advertising Association, assisted in the GM Dealer Development Program in 1974, was the NADA Dealer Group 20 Chairman in 1980, served on GM's President's Dealer Advisory Council in 1989, and he served on GM's Arbitration Board. He also worked with GM Management to establish and encourage GM Dealerships to provide a Customer Satisfaction program designed to enhance the customer's ownership experience of GM Automobiles. He received Buick's "Best in Class" Dealer Award recognizing the highest customer and employee satisfaction level 14 years in succession; and achievement only 13 out of 2,250 Buick Dealers attained Nationwide. Throughout his more than 50 years in the Community and the Automotive Business, Jack had a reputation for integrity, honesty, and humility that was appreciated and respected, not only by the many customers and employees of the Parsons Buick Co. in Plainville, but by his fellow Dealers and GM Management.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville. Funeral services will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home and 10 a.m. at the Congregational Church of Plainville. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Book of Remembrance, c/o Congregational Church of Plainville, 130 West Main St., Plainville, or to VNA Hospice of Central CT, 40 East St., Plainville, CT 06062. He will be deeply missed by his loving family, many dedicated, loyal employees and customers.
Brian Greenberg
NEW HAVEN -- Brian Greenberg, of 499 Norton Parkway, New Haven, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002.
He was the devoted son of Blanche Greenberg of New Haven and the late Harold Greenberg; beloved father of Taryn Greenberg of Stamford; dear brother of Howard Greenberg; grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Steinberg; loving nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mooney and the late Pfc. Herman M. Steinberg; cherished uncle of Scott and Rochelle Greenberg.

Edilberto Reyes Jr.
MERIDEN -- Edilberto Reyes Jr., 26, of Bunker Ave., died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002 at MidState Medical Center.
Born July 4, 1976, in Caguas, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Edilberto Reyes Sr. and Irene Rivera.
Besides his father of New York and mother of Puerto Rico, he is survived by a son, Kyreem E. Reyes of Meriden; a brother, Juan Reyes of Meriden; a sister, Velma Reyes of Meriden; paternal grandparents, Jose and Virginia of Puerto Rico; and his maternal grandparents, Tito and Naty Rivera of Puerto Rico.
Funeral services will take place Monday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m. at Iglesia Templo Libertad, 3 West Main St., Meriden. Family and friends may call at Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made to the family in Edilberto's memory.
Henry E. Sagnella Sr.
MERIDEN -- Henry E. Sagnella Sr., 81, of Meriden, husband of the late Barbara (Wood) Sagnella, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002.
Born in Wallingford on Aug. 26, 1920, the son of the late Alfred and Lucy (Palmero) Sagnella, he had resided in Meriden/Wallingford area his entire life and had graduated from Lyman Hall High School. Mr. Sagnella was employed by Napier Company until his retirement in 1986. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus of Cheshire.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Paul Wnek of Meriden, Sherrie and Carman Iagulli of East Hartford and Carole and George Roberts of Meriden; one son, Henry E. Sagnella Jr. of Meriden; five grandchildren, Kevin and Kyle Wnek, Christopher, Shaune and Jeremy Roberts; one sister, Lena Tangney of Wallingford; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Helen Sagnella of Wallingford; several nieces and nephews; close cousins, John and Pauline Palmero; and close friends, Edward and Janice Holda. He was predeceased by two sisters, Rose Billet and Mary Pellerin.
The funeral will be held on Monday, Aug. 12, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Entombment will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Barbara Wood Sagnella Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Joseph School, 159 W. Main St., Meriden, CT 06451.
