Carl Bruno

MERIDEN -- Carl Bruno, 81, of Meriden, entered into god's hands on Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at an area Nursing Center.

He was born Nov. 12, 1920 in Hartford, a son of the late George and Betty (DeVito) Bruno.

A private burial took place at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden was in charge of arrangements.

Sheila Burke

MERIDEN -- Sheila O'Neill Burke, 70, of Overlook Drive, Meriden, died Friday, July 12, 2002 in Hartford Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Lawrence Burke.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, March 17, 1932, a daughter of the late Hugh and Agnes Lappin O'Neill, she was a Meriden resident for the past 12 years. She had been employed by SNET for over 20 years until her retirement in 1989.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Burke is survived by her daughter, Pauline M. Wallace of Meriden; her son, Martin L. Burke of Meriden; her grandchildren, Jared Wallace, Devin Wallace, Brigid Burke and Catherine Burke; a sister, Catherine Hannak, of Scotland; and many nieces in nephews. She was predeceased by her five sisters; and two brothers.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from The Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association 2911 Dixwell Ave. Hamden, CT, 06518.

Bertha DeLuca

SOUTHINGTON -- Bertha DeLuca, 82, of 131 Autumn Drive, died Thursday, July 11, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Elmer DiLucantonio.

Born in Miners Mills, Pa., on April 18, 1920, the daughter of the late Felix and Anna (Kondracka) Sokolowski. Prior to her retirement in 1985, she was employed by Critikon in Southington. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Beverly DeLuca of New Port Richey, Fla., and Chester and Jacqueline Deluca of Southington, with whom she resided; a sister, Florence and her husband, Wilbur Dickinson of New Port Richey, Fla.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Stanley Sokolowski.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Thomas Church at 10 a.m. for a Mass. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association; 2550 U.S Highway 1; North Brunswick, NJ 08902-4301

Mary T. Gordon

MERIDEN -- Mary T. Gordon of Meriden, wife of the late Abraham Gordon, died on Friday, July 12, 2002 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend graveside services to be held on Sunday, July 14, at 3 p.m. at B'nai Abraham Cemetery, Corrigan Ave., Meriden, with Rabbi Edward Friedman officiating. A period of mourning will be held at her late residence, 435 Blackstone village, Meriden from Sunday through Wednesday, July 17. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. A complete obituary will appear in Sunday's edition of the Record-Journal.

Benjamin A. Kannenberg

MERIDEN -- Benjamin A. Kannenberg, age 6, son of Michelle Gorman of Meriden and Richard Kannenberg of South Hadley, Mass., died Thursday, July 11, 2002 at the CT. Children's Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Benjamin was born in Meriden on May 15, 1996.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Joyce A. Gorman of Bristol; and his paternal grandparents, Donald and Carol Kannenberg of Southington; and a large loving family. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Frank T. Gorman.

The funeral will be held on Monday, July 15, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Church, 915 Main St., South Meriden. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to CT. Children's Medical Center, 282 Washington St., Hartford, CT 06106.

Arline Orr

SOUTHINGTON -- Arline Kobs Orr, 91, of Southington, died Friday, July 12, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of 62 years of Malcolm Orr.

Born in New Britain, May 24, 1911, daughter of the late Frederick and Caroline Hudson Orr, she had been a Southington resident since 1939. Mrs. Orr was active for many years at the First Baptist Church in Southington and was a member of the Southington Women's Club. She loved spending her time with music, both teaching and playing the piano and spending hours crocheting and doing handiwork.

In addition to her husband, Malcolm, she is survived by a son, George Orr and his wife, Marjorie of Shrewsbury, Mass.; a daughter, Jane Hudson and her husband, Richard of Berlin; a brother, Erwin Kobs and his wife, Barbara of Madison; three grandchildren, Matthew Orr, Rebecca Ostoyich and Margaret Hudson; two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Jillian Orr; one niece; and one nephew.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 16, at 1 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday prior to the service from 12 to 1 p.m. Donations in Mrs. Orr's memory may be made to any of the following: Klingberg Family, Centers Inc., 370 Linwood Ave., New Britain, CT 06052; First Baptist Church, 581 Meriden Ave., Southington, CT 06489; St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church Building Fund, 68 Main St., East Berlin, CT 06037.

Adeline Scarfi

MERIDEN -- Adeline Bonanzinga Scarfi, 89, of 360 Broad St., Meriden, formerly of Hopkins Drive, New Haven, died Friday, July 12, 202 at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the wife of the late Candeloro (Conrad) Scarfi.

She was born in Meriden on July 18, 1913, and was the daughter of the late Antonio and Santa Bonanzinga.

She was the mother of Mrs. Martin (Marta) Piccirillo of North Haven; grandmother of Louis, Conrad and Paula Piccirillo; great-grandmother of Caitlyn and Claire Piccirillo; sister of Americo (Henry) Bonanzinga, Yolanda Giuliano, Carmela Mattesini, all of Meriden and the late Angelina Sirena and Natalie Margucci.

Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, Monday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Barnabas Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.

Edward R. Wuskle

WALLINGFORD -- Edward R. Wuskle, 66, of 308 South Main St., died Friday, July 12, 2002 peacefully surrendered his spirit to his Lord today surrounded by his family and loved ones.

He was born in Wallingford, March 24, 1936, a son of the late Edward and Virginia Seabury Wuskle. Edward attended local schools in Wallingford and was a life-long resident. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Air Force. Until his retirement, he was employed in the shipping and receiving department at Cytec in Wallingford, and was a member of Local 436, I.C.W.U.C. He served in many capacities as a union officer. After retirement, he was actively involved in the labor movement and organizing new members. He was a communicant of the Most Holy Trinity Church, Wallingford. He was a lifetime member of the Major Raoul Lufbery VFW Post No. 591 in Wallingford.

He was a loving and devoted father to his children, Connie Morrison and Robert Jaggers of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Lisa and Paul Baer of South Meriden; devoted brother to Warren Wuskle of Wallingford; and a doting grandfather to his six grandchildren, Nicole and Christina Baer, Kelly and David Morrison and Heather and Ashley Jaggers.

All those who knew and loved him will truly miss Ed. No one remained a stranger when Ed was around. He had tremendous faith in his God and a great love for his family and his friends. He always had a smile on his face and a generous and unselfish nature, which was second to none.

The funeral will leave the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford on Monday at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Road. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. If friends so desire, gifts in his memory may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.

Perley W. Cleveland Jr.

MERIDEN -- Perley W. Cleveland Jr., 67, of 65 Westfield Road, husband of Mildred Wheeler Cleveland, died on Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Westfield Care and Rehab Center.

Born in Hyde Park, Vt., on Oct. 28, 1934, he was the son of the late Perley and Mabel Manning Cleveland. He had attended schools in Vermont and had resided in Meriden for the past 50 years. Mr. Cleveland was employed by the City of Meriden Housing Authority, retiring seven years ago.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a stepdaughter, Annmarie Barnes; three stepsons, George, Sean and Robert Siering; four step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. He also leaves four sisters; and three brothers, Becky Binkowski of Meriden, Brenda Cannatelli of Southington, Dorothy Ercolani of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Margaret Ercolani of Florida, Keith Cleveland of Stuart, Fla., Douglas Cleveland of Plantsville and James Cleveland of Washington , Vt. He is survived by several nieces, including a special niece, Sandra Binkowski. Mr. Cleveland was predeceased by two sisters; and six brothers.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at 6:30 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, with the Rev. Edmund S. Nadolny officiating. Burial will be private and a held at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450.
