Robert N. Novinske
MERIDEN --Robert Neil Novinski, 53, of Ann St., went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 28, 2002. He died at the Yale-New Haven Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 4, 1948, in Meriden, the son of the late Francis and Phyllis Novinske. A lifelong resident of Meriden, Mr. Novinske was educated in local schools and was a 1966 graduate of Maloney High School. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a former employee of Pratt & Whitney Aircraft of North Haven.
Mr. Novinske is survived by a sister, Joan Dickenman of Tolland; a niece, Erica Dickenman, also of Tolland; an Aunt Sue Pollard; and an Uncle Anthony Malozeski, both of Florida.
Mr. Novinske's funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at 9:15 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, with his Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary's Church at 10 a.m. He will be buried in St. Boniface Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, July 1, 2002, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Darlene P. Preisler
WALLINGFORD -- Darlene P. Sylvia Preisler, 48, of Yale Ave., died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Herbert J. Preisler.
Born in New Haven, Feb. 4, 1954, she was a daughter of Philip F. Sylvia, of Wallingford and the late Beverly A. Norkus Sylvia and had been a resident of Bethlehem, Pa., for 30 years until moving back to Wallingford recently. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bethlehem, Pa. Darlene was an avid NASCAR fan.
Besides her father, she is survived by her two sons, Eric P. Preisler of Wallingford and Edward H. Preisler of Bethlehem, Pa.; her three sisters, Nancy E. Uhlman of Meriden, Susan E. Sylvia and Kimberly E. Cucurello, both of Wallingford; and her two brothers, David J. Sylvia of Wallingford, and Russell P. Sylvia of Swanville, Maine. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family including her best friend, Debbie Santiago. May you live in Peace with Jesus Christ, your Lord and Savior, forever.
Memorial funeral services will be held Wednesday, in Bethlehem, Pa. Interment will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford,
Gwendolyn T. Sjovall
WALLINGFORD -- Gwendolyn Tulipani Sjovall, RN., 71, of Ridgecrest Road, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at her residence, after a seven year battle with a rare cancer. She was the beloved wife of 50 years of William C. Sjovall Sr.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass of Christian burial, Monday, July 1, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 382 Hope Hill Road, Yalesville section of Wallingford. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Franciscan Hospice Care, P.O. Box 40001, Meriden, CT 06450-2715. William D. Balogh
MERIDEN -- William D. "Picky" Balogh, 68, of Hanover St., Meriden, formerly of Wallingford, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Haven. He was the husband of the late Beverly Ann Ellmers Balogh.
Born in Wallingford, Oct. 22, 1933, a son of Nellie M. Turlis Balogh of Wallingford, and the late William J. Balogh, he was raised and educated there, until moving to Meriden many years ago. He had been employed at International Silver Co. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Major Raoul Lufbery Post No. 591, and the Hungarian Community Club.
Besides his mother, Nellie, he is survived by four daughters, Brenda Lee Bowman and her husband, Victor B. Bowman of Anchorage, AK, Tracy A. Vissicchio and her husband, Richard E. Vissicchio, Jill R. Balogh and Jack Baltas, and Lauren B. Balagh, all of Meriden; a son, Scott A. Balogh and his wife, Robin M. Balogh of Meriden; four grandchildren, Mindi Vissicchio, Amanda Vissicchio, Nadeine Baltas, and Ashley Balogh; three sisters, Mary (Mrs. George) Gilhuly of Wallingford, Patricia (Mrs. Michael) Powers of Meriden, and Helen (Mrs. Jack) Heald of Dunedin, Fla.; three brothers, John Balogh and his wife, Phylis of Clearwater, Fla., Thomas Balogh and his wife, Wendy of Meriden, and Frederick Balogh and his wife, Bonnie of Seiverville, Tenn.; many nieces and nephews; a goddaughter, Lisa Hourigan of Meriden; and a special friend, Patricia Rider of Vermont.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Wallingford Funeral Home. Interment, with military honors, will be in Center Street Cemetery, Wallingford.
Marie E. Scofield
DORAVILLE, Ga. -- Marie Edgar Scofield, a native of Meriden, died Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the age of 73.
Marie lived in Doraville, Ga. and was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Bill Scofield who was also a native of Meriden.
She is survived by her daughter Diana Scofield of Tucker, Ga.; her sisters, Ann Pender and Virginia Baska; and her brothers, Arthur Edgar, George Edgar, and Earl Edgar.
A memorial service will be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church in South Meriden on Tuesday, July 2nd at 10 a.m.
David M. Travers
MERIDEN -- David Michael Travers, 45, of 79 Spice Apple Lane, died in Hartford early Saturday morning.
Born in Meriden, June 23, 1957, a son of Pauline E. (Young) Travers of Meriden and the late Jerome A. Travers, he had resided in Meriden all his life. He was educated at Wilcox Technical School and had been employed by Southern Union Co., P.G. Energy Division, Keystone Pipeline Services.
Besides his mother, he is survived by three sisters and brother-in-law, Kathleen Travers of Middletown, Betsy and Carlos Gonzalez of Meriden and Mary Travers of Meriden; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerome D. and Susan Travers of Portage, Wis., Paul Travers of Meriden, and John and Terri Travers of Butter, Tenn. David also was a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews.
David always had an open door and he always had a great story to tell. He will be dearly missed. We all love you, David, and will miss you.
Friends and relatives David Michael Travers may call at the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., in Meriden, on Monday from 4 until 7 p.m. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at 12 noon at his home, 79 Spice Apple Lane, Meriden. Mary Wieskiewicz
MERIDEN -- Mary (Gayeski) Wieskiewicz, 92, of McKenzie Ave., South Meriden, wife of the late John Wieskiewicz, died Saturday at the Westfield Care and Rehab Center, Meriden.
She was born in Middletown, the daughter of the late Anthony and Honareta (Spiewak) Gayeski. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by New Departure, Bristol.
She is survived by three nephews. Thomas Sebold of Meriden, John Nicodemski of Enfield, and Martin Gayeski of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; a grandniece, Melissa Sebold; and two grandnephews, Matthew Sebold and Martin Gayeski. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Gayeski; and a sister, Viola Sebold.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday with a 9 a.m. funeral liturgy in St. Mary Church, 79 S. Main St., Middletown. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Biega Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.

Sherry Carmichael
SOUTHINGTON -- Sherry Johnston Carmichael, beloved wife of Joel Carmichael passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 30, 2002.
She was born June 23, 1962 in Meriden, the treasured daughter of Timothy and Marilyn (Eukers) Johnston. Sherry inspired all who knew her with the courage and perseverance she displayed during her four and a half year battle with ovarian cancer. Her final victory was her graduation from Tunxis Community College on June 2, of this year, with family and friends cheering her on. The outpouring of love and support for Sherry from the Southington community has been so comforting to her and to her loved ones, especially the many donations made by the employees of the former "Lori Lock." Her beloved brother, Mark Johnston organized a huge fundraiser two years ago to send her to Mexico for alternative treatment. This treatment was instrumental in prolonging her life. Mark has been a constant support during her illness.
In addition to her husband and parents, Sherry is survived by four children that she loved with all her heart and in turn adored her. Her two sons, "T.J." and Jonathan and two daughters, Molly and Jessy, are all at home; she is also survived by two brothers, Mark and Bruce Johnston, both of Southington; her mother and father-in-law, Rodney and Robertine Carmichael of New Hampshire; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Stacey Nerenstone and staff of Avon (especially to Sherry's nurse Helen) for their loving care. A very special thanks to Homecare nurse and friend, Jan Conforte.
A graveside celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, July 3, at 10 a.m. at South End Cemetery
