Francis Fazzino

WALLINGFORD - Francis "Frank" Fazzino, 93, formerly of Park Lane, Wallingford, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Coccomo Memorial Health Care Center in Meriden. He was the beloved husband of the late Sara L. Buongirno Fazzino.

Born in West Hartford, June 26, 1909, he was a son of the late Angelo and Antonina Fazzino, and was a lifelong Wallingford resident. He established Fazzino Auto Body Works in 1939 and operated the business until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the Wallingford Senior Center, the Wallingford Chapter of AARP, and was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection. Mr. Fazzino took pride in his large vegetable garden and strawberry patch. He loved his family and enjoyed being with them. He was a very quiet man who touched the hearts of everyone. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly L. and John Brooks of Southington, Rosalie A. and Jack Agosta of the Yalesville section of Wallingford and Patricia A. and Bruce C. Brown of Meriden; his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald F. and Arlene P. Fazzino of Winsted; his 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; his sister, Marion Musso of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Benjamin, Lawrence, William and James Fazzino.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Monday from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers gifts in his memory may be sent to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Eunice Gindel

WALLINGFORD - Eunice Mae Gindel, 75, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the wife of the late Zoltan Gindel.

Born in Wallingford, July 3, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Theodore and Mary Mason Plunske, and had been a lifelong resident. She attended Wallingford schools, and was employed by the former Sandy's Luncheonette, and later by the Fosdick Corporation. She enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Central Connecticut Striper Club of Meriden, having been the recipient of many awards.

She is survived by her children, Geraldine (Mrs. Fred) Harvey of Wisconsin, Albert "Wayne" Plunske and Sharon of Meriden, Dorothy (Mrs. John) Lee, William Pavloski, Richard Hower, all of Florida and Robin (Mrs. Leonard) Bienasz of South Meriden; her two brothers, Wayne Plunske of Wallingford and Norman Plunske, of Citrus Hill, Florida; her companion, Maynard Vass of Wallingford; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Carol Kustra; and her brother, Paul Plunske.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Wallingford, Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Wallingford Funeral Home. Interment will be in the In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford.

Maureen A. Mazza

CHESHIRE - Mrs. Maureen A. (Conner) Mazza, 53, formerly of 175 Nutmeg Place, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was the wife of Francis E. Mazza.

Mrs. Mazza was born in Peoria, Ill, July 10, 1948, daughter Mary Lou (Mack) Conner of Canton, Ill., and the late Maurice Conner, and lived in Cheshire since 1982. She graduated from St. Anthony's School of Nursing, Moline, Ill., in 1971. Most recently, she had worked as a registered nurse at Temple Surgical Center in New Haven. She was an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying skiing, golfing and tennis. She was a member of the American Association of Operating Room Nurses; the Yale Football Association and the Cheshire Gridiron Club. Mrs. Mazza was a communicant of St. Bridget's Church, where she taught CCD.

Besides her husband and mother, she leaves a son, Peter J. Mazza of New Haven; a daughter, Erika L. Mazza of Laramie, Wyo.; a brother, Thomas L. Conner of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Kathleen A. Barra of Peoria, Ill.; two nephews; five nieces; and one grandnephew.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 2, at 3:15 p.m. from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 South Main St., Cheshire to St. Bridget's Church for a Mass at 4 p.m. Burial will be at the family's convenience in Illinois. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Maureen A. Mary O. Paul

SOUTHINGTON - Mary O. Paul, 65, of 697 South End Road, Plantsville section, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Southington Care Center. She was the wife of Harold F. Paul.

She was born on Oct. 24, 1936, in Waterbury, the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Ryan) O'Keefe. Mrs. Paul was a former resident of Wolcott for over 40 years. She had 25 years of service with SNET retiring in 1993. She was a member of the SNET Pioneers and a parishioner of Mary Our Queen Church.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Nancy Paul of Southbury; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lou Ann and Raymond Higgins of Plantsville, Marita Paul-Shurkus and Joseph Shurkus of Southington; a brother, George O'Keefe and his wife, Marita; five grandchildren, Daniel and Kalitin Higgins, Megan and Lauren Paul and Ryan Shurkus; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Edward O'Keefe.

The funeral will be held on Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to Mary Our Queen Church at 10 a.m. for a Mass. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. Donations may be made in her memory to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O Box 224523, Dallas, Texas 75222-4523. Robert F. Schumann

MERIDEN - Robert F. Schumann, 86, formerly of 74 Westerly Terrace, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Tandem Health Care in Southington. He was the husband of the late Barbara Bunnell Schumann.

Born in Meriden on Jan. 15, 1916, he was the son of the late Fred and Emily Wuth Schumann. He was employed as superintendent at International Silver Company. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Center Lodge of Masons, the Shriners and the Elks.

He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Schumann of Meriden; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard S. and Virginia Schumann of New Britain; and a brother and his wife, Roger M. and Eleanor Schumann of Berlin.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Perry L. Beaver will officiate. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery will be private. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the services. If desired, contributions in Mr. Schumann's memory may be made to the Shriners Burn Center, c/o Sphinx Temple of Shriners, 3066 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, CT 06111 or to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 164 Hanover St., Meriden, CT 06451.

Dwight P. Atwater

SOUTHINGTON -- Dwight P. Atwater, 84, of 36 James Ave., died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Marie Simone Atwater.

Born on Jan. 13, 1918, in Waterbury, he was the son of the late Frederick W. and Hazel (Welton) Atwater.

Dwight was a veteran of World War II and served four years in the Navy. He was employed by Peck, Stowe and Wilcox for 40 years and Ideal Forging for 18 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the Redmen's Club, Iwo Jima and U.S.S. Fraser Assns., and the Maria Of The Angel Society.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Susan and her husband, Pasquale Giano of Southington; along with two grandchildren, Kristina and Kaitlyn, also of Southington; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Virginia Cowan and June Cowan.

The funeral will be at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to the Plantsville Congregational Church, 109 Church St., Plantsville for services at 11 a.m. Calling hours will be on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Legion, 66 Main St., Southington, CT 06489.

Thelma Clarke

MERIDEN -- Thelma Niland Clarke, 82, died June 28, 2002, in Meriden after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden in 1920, Mrs. Clarke graduated from Meriden High School and was employed as an operator with Southern New England Telephone Company. In 1948, she married Harry W. Clarke, a fellow SNET employee, and they moved to Wallingford, where Mrs. Clarke worked at the Public Library. In 1978, she and her husband moved to Orlando, Fla., and later to Ormond Beach. Mrs. Clarke was predeceased by her husband in 1992, returned to Meriden two years ago and became a resident of the Connecticut Baptist Home.

She is survived by her three children, Keith Clarke of Meriden, Douglas Clarke of Kensington, and Maureen Clarke-Bentley of Westfield, N.J.; four grandchildren, Amanda Clarke of Meriden, Aaron Clarke and Molly Clarke, both of Kensington; and Daniel Bentley of Westfield, N.J.

The funeral will be held at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2002, from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Frederick W. Heinrichs

NEW BRITAIN -- Frederick W. (Bill) Heinrichs, 75, formerly of Meriden, died June 27, 2002.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Meriden Antique Veterans, and former member of the South Meriden Volunteer Fire Dept.

He is survived by a sister, Margaret (Peggy) Dow of Meriden.

Calling hours are Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will be Tuesday at St. Mary's Cemetery in New Britain at 1 p.m.

Jay G. Leigh

MERIDEN -- Jay G. Leigh, 48, of 60 Sunbright Drive, South Meriden, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Hartford Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Meriden on Aug. 17, 1953, he was the son of Barbara Cossette Leigh and the late Hugh G. Leigh. He participated in Little League sports, graduated from Maloney High School and attended Middlesex Community College.

Besides his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Michael James Leigh of New Britain and Mark Dennis Leigh of Tolland; a sister, Barbara Ann Shropshire of Omaha, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and burial will be private. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Connecticut Children's Hospital, 282 Washington St., Hartford, CT 06410. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
