Rita A. Lazauskas
SOUTHINGTON -- Rita A. Kalosky Lazauskas, 87, of Berkley Ave., Southington, died Sunday, June 16, 2002 at Chancellor Gardens. She was the widow of the late Peter Lazauskas.
Born June 6, 1915 in Waterbury, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Hector Kalosky. She resided in Southington for the past 56 years and was a communicant of St. Thomas Church. She retired from Allied Control (Gould Electronics) in July of 1980 and worked at the Aqua Turf until 1997.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Peter and Nancy Lazauskas of Houston, Texas ., Michael and Marie Lazauskas of Guilford; and her and daughter and her husband, Rita and James Gagnon of Southington; she also leaves three brothers, Joseph, William and Harold Kalosky and their wives; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 19, at 9 a.m. from the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery
at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Rita may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Elizabeth Longo
SOUTHINGTON -- Elizabeth "Bette" Longo, 79, of 164 Oakland Rd. died Monday, June 17, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Anthony Longo for 55 years.
Born in Southington on Oct. 22, 1922 in Southington, the daughter of the late John and Elsie (Wagenbrenner) Keating. She had worked at the former Peck, Stow & Wilcox and also at G.E in Plainville many years ago. Mrs. Longo was a member of St. Thomas Church and a member of the Ladies Guild.
Besides her husband, she is survived by son and daughter-in-law, William and Rhonda Longo and a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and William Tully, all of Southington; her cherished grandson, Anthony Longo; several nieces and nephews; and her two loving dogs, Buster and Skipper. She was predeceased by three sisters, Florence Scharmer, Marjorie Chase, and Agnes Alder.
The funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Thomas Church at 10 a.m. for a Mass. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Richard A. Papale Jr.
MIDDLETOWN -- Richard "Ricky" A. Papale Jr., 21, of 10 Black Walnut Drive, Middletown, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 17, 2002.
Born in Meriden, he is the beloved son of Ellen (Thuotte) and Charles Frederick of Middletown and had lived in Middletown since 1990. Ricky attended Middletown schools and Oak Hill School in New Britain.
Besides his parents, he is survived by one sister, Sarah J. Papale of Middletown; maternal grandmother, Eleanor Thuotte of West Palm Beach, Fla.; father, Richard A. Papale Sr. of Wallingford; three step-sisters; two dear friends, Kim Higgins of Wallingford, Dayna Reardon of Windsor; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held from the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Middletown on Thursday, June 20, at 9 a.m. and at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Middletown, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Charles H. Perry Jr.
MERIDEN -- Charles Henry Perry Jr., 66, husband of Sylvia J. Perry of 1454 North Colony Road, died Monday, June 17, 2002 at the MidState Medical Center of Meriden.
He was born in Willimantic, May 21, 1936, a son of the late Charles H. and Mildred E. Perry Sr. Mr. Perry attended Windham High School in Willimantic graduating in 1954. He was employed as a supervisor of the Napier Company in Meriden for over 10 years and thereafter for over 20 years, as a supervisor at Super Market Distributors with lifelong friend, Daniel R. Jakiela. Mr. Perry was a 25 year member of the Meriden Elks Lodge No. 35, a parishioner of the Center Congregational Church of Meriden, and a member of the Connecticut Grange Association of Scotland, CT. An avid hockey fan, he was a longtime member of the Hartford Whalers Booster Club and a recent member of the Hartford Wold Pack Booster Club. Also, he was a 26 year member of the Meriden Amateur Softball Association.
Besides his beloved wife, Sylvia, he is survived by a son, William Perry of Meriden; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Pepe of Glastonbury; grandson, Brian Pepe; and many dear relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Charles H. Perry III. Mr. Perry's family was very important to him and he spent his retirement years enjoying many activities with them and especially with his grandson, Brian.
His funeral will be Wednesday, June 19, at 10 a.m. in Center Congregational Church. Burial will be in the Scotland Cemetery
in Scotland, CT., at the family's convenience. His family will receive relatives and friends in the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. The family requests that donations should be made to the Center Congregational Church, 474 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450.
Henry Swiercz
MERIDEN -- Henry Swiercz, 81 of 126 Westview Drive, husband of the late Julie Angelletti Swiercz died Sunday, June 16, 2002 in the MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Radomsko, Poland, Jan. 12, 1921, a son of the late Stanley and Helena Neiwolik Swiercz. He had been a resident of Meriden for the past 31 years. He retired from Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Co., in 1986 after 15 years of employment. In his retirement he enjoyed fishing and cooking.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Smith and Joan Gurtowski, both of Meriden; grandchildren, Jaimie Barajas of Bridgeport, Amy Smith of Meriden along with nine other grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Venon Swiercz and two sisters, Krystyna Sledz and Stanislawa Golinska in Poland; and several nieces and nephews.
All are invited to his funeral service, Thursday, June 20 at 10 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden. He will be interred with his wife in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with his family in the funeral home on Wednesday, June 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. His family respectfully requests of those sending flowers, please exclude roses.
Paul Swol
SANTA ROSA, Calif. -- Paul Swol, formerly of Connecticut, husband of Roschelle Swol, died Sunday, May 19, 2002. He was the son of the late John and Zaza Swol.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Swol and Amber Ellsworth, both of Fort Bragg, Calif., and Trina Nailor of Shasta Lake, Calif.; his sisters, Helen Malicki, Sandra Glaser and Barbara Cappello, all of Wallingford and Janet Hirsch of Middletown; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, John Swol.
A memorial Mass will be held at Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford, Wednesday, June 19 at 9 a.m.
Andrew Kapi Jr.
WALLINGFORD -- Andrew Kapi Jr., 89, beloved husband of Anna B. Petty Kapi of Deme Road, Wallingford died Monday, June 17, 2002.
Mr. Kapi was born in Wallingford, Feb. 15, 1913, the son of the late Andrew Kapi Sr. and Suzanna Orban Kapi and was a lifelong resident here. A veteran of over 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, serving proudly at West Point, Hickham Air Base in Pearl Harbor, and most proudly with the 467th Bombardment Division of the Eighth Air Force at Rackheath Air Base, Norfolk, England, where during the last 380 days of World War II. Mr. Kapi and his crewmates were responsible for maintaining the planes that flew 221 missions and 6,011 sorties over Germany and occupied France, with a loss of less than six tenths of one percent of their crew. Mr. Kapi and his unit members held the record for dismantling and reassembling a plane engine in under eight hours, a record that stood for many years. He kept in touch with this close knit group of men by attending annual reunions all over the United States, as well as back in England. He continued his military career through the Korean War, again being stationed in England, only this time as a photographer. He was fortunate enough to photograph the funeral of King George VI as part of his assignments. Upon his retirement as a T/Sgt. E-6, Mr. Kapi came home to his native Wallingford to raise his family near his beloved mother and father. Following in his father's footsteps as a founding member of the Hungarian Community Club of Wallingford, Mr. Kapi became involved in that group and was a lifetime member. Again he chose to serve his country as best he could and joined the U.S. Postal Service for the last 15 years of his working life.
Never losing his affection for the military man, he became active in local veterans organizations, never failing to help out until his health began to decline. Most notably among these groups are the American Legion post 187, where he served as Post Commander, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 591, also serving as Post Commander, and lastly, the Yalesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. Serving on the Memorial Day parade committee these last few years with his friends, Natalie Yasensky and Jean Holloway brought him much pleasure. He will miss greatly all those he worked with to promote the causes and needs of Veterans.
Besides his beloved wife, Anna, he is survived by his devoted daughter and son, Barbara Ann Kapi and Andrew N. Kapi, both of Wallingford; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Kapi Treloar and Edward Treloar of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Kapi Homerston.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday from the Wallingford Funeral Home at 10 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ, 107 South Cherry St., Wallingford, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment, with military honors, will be in St. John Cemetery. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A donation in his memory may be made to the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ, 105 South Cherry St., Wallingford, CT 06492 or to a charity of one's choice, especially any involving homeless or disabled veterans.
Katherine Renals
PORTLAND -- Katherine (Powers) Renals, 75, of 132 Bartlett St., Portland, wife of William J. Renals died Monday, June 17, 2002 at home.
Born in Meriden on Oct. 3, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Lillian (Kaiser) Powers and had lived in Middletown for most of her life before moving to Portland 12 years ago. Before retiring, she worked for Olin Ski Company in Middletown. Katherine was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Debi Waz of Middlefield; two daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley and Charles Kulas of Idaho and Barbara Jenkins of Middletown; two step-sons, James B. Renals of Middletown and Stephen M. Renals of Vernon; one step-daughter, Mary Berndtson of E. Haddam; three brothers, Francis Powers, Edward Powers and Gerald Powers, all of Meriden; two sisters, Mary Feegel of Hamden and Dorothy Crowell of Plainville; 11 grandchildren;10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St., Portland. Burial will follow in the Swedish Cemetery, Portland. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial donations may be made to Middlesex Hospice, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.
Sally H. Galati
SOUTHINGTON -- Sally H. Galati, 83, of 60 Windham Drive, Southington, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2002. She was the wife of the late James J. Galati, Sally had been a resident of Southington since 1982.
She was born in Dickson City, Pa., on Feb. 23, 1919 and the daughter of the late Theodore and Anna Onuschak.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy A. Verderame and her fiancee, Vito J. Boccuzzio of Southington; her son, James M. Galati and his fiancee, Corinne A. Traver of Bristol; her grandsons, Michael J. Galati of Phoenix, Ariz., Louis L. Penta lll and his wife, Laura of West Palm Beach, Fla., James, Daniel and Marc Verderame of Southington; and four great-grandchildren; she also leaves a sister, Delores Coppola; a brother, Walter Onuschak; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Henry Fischer; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Linda J. Penta; and her granddaughter, Lee Ann McKinney.
A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Road, Southington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
