Robert A. Eber

HAMDEN -- Robert A. Eber, 91, of 35 Hamden Hills Rd., Laurel Gardens, Hamden, formerly of Still Hill Rd., Hamden, entered into rest eternal, June 8, 2002. He was the husband of Reta Engelhardt Eber.

Born in Macy, Ind., he was the son of the late Louis F. and Emma Baldwin Eber and was a 1934 graduate of Purdue University in Chemical Engineering and was a 2nd Lieutenant in the R.O.T.C. at the university. Before his retirement, he was a chemical engineer for the Olin Mathieson Corp. formerly of New Haven for over 35 years. After his retirement, he was a consultant for Porce-Len Inc. and Leed and Himmel Industries Inc., both of Hamden. He was an avid stamp and coin collector, a member of Christ Lutheran Church, serving on the church Council and former treasurer.

He was the father and father-in-law of Janine and husband, Chris Fagan of North Haven, Karen and husband, Connor Davis of Sarasota, Fla., Bruce F. and wife, Cynthia Eber of Wallingford and Robert M. Fagan of Belfast, Ireland; brother of Wilma Richey of Indiana and the late Ruth Brown, Evelyn Klein and Helen VanOsdale; also survived by six grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, 600 Shepard Ave., Hamden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, at the above address. Arrangements in care of Hamden Memorial, 1300 Dixwell Ave., Hamden.

Frank V. Glorioso

SOUTHINGTON -- Frank V. Glorioso, 93, of 157 Burritt St., Milldale section, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary (Maineri) Glorioso.

Born in Brooklyn, N. Y., the son of the late Vincent F. and Rosalia (Ragona) Glorioso. Prior to his retirement 31 years ago, he worked as a bus driver for the former CT Co. He was a parishioner of St. Aloysius Church. Mr. Glorioso was a former member of the Moose Club.

He is survived by two sons, Vincent Glorioso of Plantsville and Jean L. Casey of Meriden; three daughters, Mary Glorioso of Burlington, Sadie Merenda of Bristol, Rosalie Willis of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Anna Femia of Meriden; 14 grandchildren, Philip Robotham, Steven Robotham, Ginger Barkley, Tina Posten, Frank Merenda, Lucy Merenda, Deanna Cirillo, Lisa Peterson, Robert Peterson, Nancy Gliszczynski, Betty Malloy and Edward Pelcher; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers; six sisters; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Aloysius Church at 10 a.m. for a Mass. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Joyce Smith

WALLINGFORD -- Joyce (Knights) Smith, 81, of 35 Marc Drive, died on Saturday evening, June 8, 2002, at Skyview Center in Wallingford after a lengthy illness.

Born in West Enfield, Maine on Feb. 3, 1921, she had resided in Meriden for some 50 years. Mrs. Smith was employed by Masonic Home and Hospital for over 10 years, retiring 16 years ago.

She is survived by six daughters, Patricia Kilbride of Lincoln, Maine, Jean Lindsay of Meriden, Brenda Silva of New London, Pamela Mirles of Wallingford, Diane Lucier and Susan St. Pierre, both of Meriden; three sons, William Smith of Terryville and Roger and Brian Smith, both of Meriden; 29 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Louis Knights of Lincoln, Maine; also many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters, Martha Anziano and Laurel Paradise, both of Meriden; and by several sisters and brothers.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend graveside services to be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery, 817 Old Colony Rd., Meriden. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden on Tuesday, June 11th from 4 until 8 p.m.

Josephine T. Biestek

MERIDEN -- Josephine T. Biestek, 84, formerly of 31 Twiss St., died suddenly on Sunday, June 9, 2002 at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown.

Born in Meriden on June 21, 1917, daughter of the late Paul and Sophie (Curylo) Michalczyk, she was a lifelong Meriden resident. Mrs. Biestek had graduated from Meriden High School and was employed as a candy maker for Alexanders'. She very much enjoyed family gatherings.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and John Francis of Meriden; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Norma Biestek of Durham; three grandchildren, Joelle Francis and Willis Francis, both of Meriden and Carole LaBissoniere and her husband, Michael of Middletown; a great-grandson, Noah LaBissoniere; a sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Stephen Pasinski of Meriden; a brother, Paul, "Smyg" Michalczyk of Meriden; an aunt, Adeline Kowal of New Britain; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Helen Opalski.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 13, at 10 a.m. in the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will be private in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Joaquin Carrion

MERIDEN -- Joaquin Carrion, 89, of 1 Lincoln Terrace, husband of the late Ramona Oquendo Carrion, died Saturday, June 8, 2002.

Born Aug. 8, 1912, in Vega Alta, P. R., he was the son of the late Reymundo and Angela Mercado Carrion. Mr. Carrion had resided in Meriden for many years and had attended schools in Puerto Rico. He was employed by Carabetta Builders for over 20 years. Mr. Carrion was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church and a member of the Latin American Society Club and the Latin American Domino Club.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Carmen Crespo and her husband, Francisco Pabon and Lucy Lespier, all of Meriden; and four sons and a daughter-in-law, Pedro Carrion, Francisco and Del Fina Carrion, Geraldo Carrion and Richard Randell, all of Meriden. He is also survived by many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ricarda Pagan Carrion of Vega Alta, P. R.; and a brother, Loa Carrion of Vega Alta, P.R.; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Carrion was predeceased by his wife, Ramona Carrion, daughter, Julia Cruz-Carrion; brothers, Norberto (Teto) Carrion, Jesus Carrion; and grandson, Jose Rafael Collazo.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 12, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Shelter, 43 St. Casimir Drive, Meriden, CT 06450, or the Latin American Society, 399 So. Colony St., Meriden, CT 06451.

Mae Hartig

PALM HARBOR, Fla. -- Mae Kowalski Hartig, 88, formerly of Meriden, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at the home of her son in Palm Harbor, Fla.

Born in Wallingford, she worked as a seamstress. She moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., in 1968, and later to an ALF, Park Place in Clearwater, Fla. She was a member of St. Espiritu Santo Catholic Church of Safety Harbor, Fla.

She is survived by a son, Donald R. Hartig of Palm Harbor; a brother, Ted Kowalski of Wallingford; three grandsons, Douglas, Ralph and Ira; five great-grandchildren, Jason, Christina, Alexandria, Kelly and Vincent; one great-great-granddaughter, Haleigh; and several nieces and nephews. She predeceased by her husband, Ira B; two brothers, Edward and Stanley; and one sister, Pauline.

A graveside service will be held on June 12, at 10 a.m. at the Walnut Grove Cemetery, on Old Colony Road in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hospice, 300 East Bay Drive, Largo, Fla. 33770. Brett Funeral Home and Cremation Services, St. Petersburg, Fla., has charge of arrangements.

Mary Kovacs

WALLINGFORD -- Mary Svab Kovacs, 89, of Williams Road, formerly of East Side Terrace, Wallingford, died Sunday, June 9, 2002 in her home. She was the wife of the late Frank Kovacs.

Born in Bridgeport, Aug. 24, 1912, a daughter of the late James and Kurovics Ivan, she was a Stratford resident for many years before moving to Wallingford 10 years ago. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church, and had been a parishioner of Holy Trinity Greek Catholic Church in Bridgeport.

Mrs. Kovacs is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Wallace Lyman of Wallingford; her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Diana Svab of Fort Knox, Ky.; her daughter-in-law, Katherine Smith-Bodor of Naugatuck; her grandchildren, Wallace Lyman Jr., Jennifer Lyman, Joseph Smith, Michelle Hughes and Karen Smith; her sister, Veronica Magyar of Hamden; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph Svab; and her grandson, Brian Lyman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Most Holy Trinity Church. Interment will be at 2:15 p.m. in St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the MidState VNA and Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450 or to the American Liver Foundation, 1425 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove, N.J. 07009. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, CT.

Ramon W. Hennessey

WALLINGFORD -- Ramon W. Hennessey, 69, of Pinehurst Drive, Wallingford, died suddenly, Monday, June 10, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the beloved husband of Gloria Clark Hennessey.

Born in Meriden, Aug. 23, 1932, he was a son of the late Raymond and Anna Dobratz Hennessey, and had been a lifelong Wallingford resident. He was employed by the Al Smith Paving Company of Yalesville for many years, and the Town of Wallingford Public Works Department, for several years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean War, and had been a member of the Yalesville Volunteer Fire Department.

Besides his wife, Gloria, he is survived by his daughter, RaeAnne Addisio and her fiancee, John Mangels and his grandson, Michael Addisio, all of Wallingford; his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Peg and James Talbot of Cheshire and Joyce and Arthur Dexter of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice.
