Hetty W. Noonan

NORTH HAVEN -- Hetty Willer Noonan, 94, formerly of 191 Pool Rd., died Friday, May 31, 2002, at St. Raphael's Hospital She was the wife of the late John H. Noonan.

Born in Munich, Germany on June 8, 1907, daughter of the late Rudolph and Therese Weisberger Willer. She had lived in North Haven since 1976 and had worked as a switchboard operator at Yale-New Haven Medical Center and later for the CT Medical Center. She was a member of the North Haven Senior Center.

She was the grandmother of Lissa Maurer of Northford, Jane Fletcher of Cromwell and Claire Sardinskas of Prospect. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by daughters, Janet Marie Noonan and Mary Lou Fletcher; and sisters, Margaret Belters and Bertha Miller.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Frances Cabrini Church, Pond Hill Rd., North Haven. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1155 Silas Deane Hwy., Wethersfield, CT 06109. The North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., is in care of the arrangements.

Michael A. Papale Sr.

WALLINGFORD -- Michael A. Papale Sr., 79, of Judd Square, formerly of Jobs Road, Wallingford, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the beloved husband of the late Cecilia E. Tomczuk Papale.

Mr. Papale was born in Cheshire, April 2, 1923, a son of the late Adolph Papale Sr. and Anna DeRosa Papale, and had been a Wallingford resident for many years. He had been a project manager for the town of Middlebury until his retirement. Longtime active in Wallingford Democratic Party activities, he was a member of the Democratic Town Committee, and had served on the Public Utilities Commission, the Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Building Committees for the Wallingford Police Department and the Wallingford Board of Education. He had been active in the Wallingford Little League, the Wallingford Junior Football League and the Wallingford Babe Ruth League, and was a member of the Wallingford Lodge of Elks No. 1365, and the Loyal Order of Moose.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Alice A. Fischer and William R. Fischer Jr. of Meriden; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. Papale Jr. and Joan E. Papale of Wallingford; his three grandchildren, Amber Marie Fischer, Michael A. Papale III, and John J. Papale; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Dominic Clemente of Cheshire; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Barbara Papale, and Henry and Joan Papale, all of Meriden and John and Rose Papale and Frederick and Barbara Papale, all of Wallingford; many nieces and nephews; a very dear friend, Millie Reig; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Elvira Papale of Cheshire, Filomena Papale, Iris Papale, and Mary Papale, all of Wallingford, Paul Manfredi, and Anthony Carta of Meriden, and Edward and Joanne Tomczuk of Rockville.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Papale; a sister, Theresa (Mrs. Stephen Collins); and four brothers, Ralph Papale, Adolph Papale Jr., Mario Papale, and Anthony Papale; his sisters-in-law, Millicent Tomczuk, Stacia Manfredi, and Lillian Carta; and his brothers-in-law, Chester, Matthew, Stanley, and Walter Tomczuk.

His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice.

Gladys Pino

MERIDEN -- Gladys (Pelrin) Pino, 89, formerly of 119 South Broad St., Meriden, wife of the late Justin A. Pino, died Saturday evening, June 1, 2002, at Westfield Care & Rehab Center in Meriden after a lengthy illness.

Born in Meriden on Dec. 1, 1912, the daughter of the late Romeo and Laura Felix Pelrin, she had been a lifelong resident of Meriden. She attended St. Laurent Parochial School and Meriden High School, and had been employed by SNET as an operator for some 15 years, retiring 24 years ago. Mrs. Pino was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church, Meriden, and was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and former president of the Parents' Guild.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, James J. and Constance T. Pino of Orange, Eugene Pino of Meriden; a daughter-in-law, Mary Grace Pino of Meriden; six grandchildren, Patricia E. Pino, James Pino Jr., Daniel Pino, Laura Billado, Lisa and Michael Pino; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Pino and Isabella Blosser; also several beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Eva Pelrin of Meriden and Rhea Baldwin of Philadelphia, Pa.; and by three brothers, Lawrence, Edgar and Albert Pelrin, all of Meriden.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 11 a.m. at St. Laurent Church. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning prior to the Mass from 9 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Laurent Church, 121 Camp St., Meriden, CT 06450.

Grace Rawling

HAMDEN -- Grace Cox Rawling, 91, of 96 Chester St., died June 2, 2002, in the Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the widow of Arnold Rawling.

Born in Brockton, Mass., Dec. 31, 1910, she was the daughter of the late William and Leona LeFranc Cox and was a resident of Hamden for over 60 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Sugrue of Wallingford; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three nephews. She was predeceased by daughters, Patricia Nicolas and Edna Rawling; and a sister, Ruth A. Tharp.

Private services will be held in Hamden Memorial Funeral Home, 1300 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, Wednesday, followed by burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Ct. Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.

Laura Zemel

MERIDEN -- Laura Zemel, 47, of Converse Ave., died suddenly at home on Saturday, June 1, 2002.

Laura was born in New Haven, on April 22, 1955, a daughter to Evelyn (Diamond) Zemel of Delray Beach, Fla. and the late Herman Zemel. She had been employed as a kitchen manager at Powder Ridge Ski Area, in Middlefield.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by many cousins; and many close friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Zemel.

A period of gathering will take place Monday , June 3, at Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, at 9 a.m. with a service taking place at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow privately. In lieu of flowers, it is asked that donations in her memory be made to Temple B'Nai Abraham Synagogue, 127 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden, CT, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Stacia Beaumont

WALLINGFORD -- Stacia Beaumont, 100, of 945 East Center St., died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at her home. She was the wife of the late Albert J. Beaumont.

She was born in Meriden, May 27, 1902, a daughter of the late Thomas and Christine Wydika Strojny. Also predeceased by her step-father, John Novak, who raised her. She was a self-employed farmer and a lifelong resident of Wallingford.

She is survived by a grandson, Albert William Beaumont of Wallingford; a granddaughter, Kathleen Lynne of Puyallup, Wash.; and a sister, Jean McDermott of Hamden.

Funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours. If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be made to the First Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 23 South Main St., Wallingford 06492. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford is in charge of arrangements.

Sylvia M. Benson

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -- Sylvia Marie Benson, 65, of 107 Elliot St., died Friday, May 31, 2002 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.

Born in Walpole, N.H., on Nov. 29, 1936, she was a daughter of Joseph and Amy Dumais Murdy. She had been employed at Margolins for 20 years, the Book Press for seven years and Fulflex for eight years. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and was a guest member of the VFW. She loved fishing and cooking.

She is survived by her father of Barnsville, Ga.; five brothers, Joseph Murdy of Anchorage, Alaska, John Murdy of Powder Springs, Ga., William Murdy, Edward Sherman and Robert Dumais, all of Meriden; two sisters, Mary Avery of Eastlake, Ohio and Roseanna Sobol of Meriden; her longtime special friend, Ellen Cutler; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Dumais.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 7, at 10 a.m. at Ker Westerlund & Fleming Funeral Home. Her brother, Pastor Edward Sherman will officiate. Burial will follow in Chesterfield West Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Gertrude M. Butler

SOUTHINGTON -- Gertrude M. Sias Butler, 89, of Summit St., in the Plantsville section of Southington died Monday, June 3, 2002 at home. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Butler.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., May 21, 1913, daughter of the late Ellis and Gertrude Vogte Sias she was a longtime Southington resident. Mrs. Butler was a member of the First Baptist Church in Southington and a member of the Rebecca Lodge. She had worked for many years at the former Peck Stowe and Wilcox in Southington before retiring in 1969.

She is survived by one daughter, Virginia Butler of Plantsville; one son, Donald Butler of Colorado; three grandchildren, Daryl Butler and his wife, Betty, Chad Butler and Courtney Scherer; and two great-grandchildren, Catherine and Julia Butler.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 5, at 11 a.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours are prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m.

Michael A. Papale Sr.

WALLINGFORD -- Michael A. Papale Sr. beloved husband of the late Cecilia E. Tomczuk Papale, died Saturday, June 1, 2002.

In addition to the survivors mentioned in Monday's obituary notice he is also survived by a dear friend, Carmela "Mildred" Reig.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.
