Amata L. DiMeo

MERIDEN -- Amata L. DiMeo, 62, of 30 North Spring St., Meriden, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at her home.

She was born in Ruviano Caserta, Italy, Aug. 12, 1939, the daughter of the late Luigi and Angelina Massaro Rossi. Ms. DiMeo was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and an active member of the Meriden Senior Citizens Center.

She is survived by a daughter, Maritta DiMeo of Waterbury; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Louie DiMeo of Meriden and Nicola and Linda DiMeo of Meriden; a sister and brother-in-law, Gilda and Anthony Osiecki Jr. of Middletown; two nephews, Christopher Osiecki of Middletown and David and Sue Osiecki of North Hampton, Mass.; she also leaves several aunts, uncles and cousins in Italy. She was predeceased by a grandson, Michael Joseph Rivard.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, May 25, gathering in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden. at 11:15 a.m. with procession to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for a 12 p.m. funeral liturgy. She will be interred in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call in the funeral home Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Anna Foucault

WALLINGFORD -- Anna Sass Foucault, 93, formerly of 109 Leigus Road, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at the Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Joseph L. Foucault.

She was born in Meriden, Nov. 6, 1908, a daughter of the late Herman and Dora Hentz Sass. She worked as an inspector at R. Wallace and Son and then worked at Unimax until her retirement. She was a communicant of the Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy (Bobbie) and James Totz of Wallingford, with whom she made her home for many years; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Gloria Sass of Higginum; six loving grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Melvin Foucault; two sisters, Helen Avolt and Dorothy Weems Jakobowitz; two brothers, Francis Sass and Edward Sass.

The funeral will leave the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford on Saturday at 8:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. at the Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Road, Wallingford. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery. Wallingford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Bert Hall

MERIDEN -- Bert (Woollard) Hall, 83, of 320 Colony St., wife of the late Nelson C. Hall, died on Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at the Bradley Home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on May 23, 1918, the daughter of the late Harry and Ann Beazley Woollard, she had resided in Meriden most of her life. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Meriden High School, class of 1936. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, a member of the Meriden Women's Club, and the AARP.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Richard Thompson of Haddam and Shelby and Ron Herron of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three grandchildren, Anne Thompson of Farmington, Keith Thompson of Worcester, Mass., and Brad Yankey of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and John Krisak of South Meriden; a brother-in-law, Albert Ensle of Southington; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 20 Catlin St., Meriden with the Rev. Jane White-Hassler officiating. Burial will be private at Walnut Grove Cemetery. There will be calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Andrew's Memorial Fund, 20 Catlin St., Meriden, CT 06450 or to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

Leona Rancourt

MERIDEN -- Leona Ouimet Rancourt, 93, of Tremont St., Meriden, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at the Bradley Home in Meriden. She was the wife of 40 years of the late Joseph Rancourt.

Born in Wauregan, April 28, 1909, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Malvina Gayllipeau Ouimet, she had been a Meriden resident for over 70 years. She was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church in Meriden, a member of the Council of Catholic Women, the Daughters of Isabelle, the Saint Ann Society and a volunteer for many charitable organizations.

She was the loving mother of her daughter, Jeanine Guest and her husband, Robert of Meriden; her two sons, Robert Rancourt and his wife, Joan of Yalesville section of Wallingford and Clement Rancourt and his wife, Joan of Plantsville section of Southington; her eight cherished grandchildren, Deborah Carter, Sandra Rancourt-Rule, Laurie Jaffarian, Brian Guest and Christopher, Sean and Monique Rancourt; her 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Roland Rancourt; two sisters; and three brothers.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Laurent Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Laurent Cemetery in South Meriden. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation, 920 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT 06107.

Harold E. Taylor Jr.

WALLINGFORD -- Harold E. "HAP" Taylor Jr., 74, of Chapel St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was the husband of the late Marion Creed Taylor.

Born in Claremont, N.H., Sept. 23, 1927, he was a son of the late Harold E. Taylor Sr. and the late Ruth Perry Taylor, he had been a Yalesville resident many years. Mr. Taylor was proprietor of a landscape business for several years and more recently had been a Truck Driver for Plasticrete Company in North Haven until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Merchant Marines, a member of the Teamsters Union, the Lion's Club, and was a member and former Chief of the Yalesville Fire Department.

He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Donald Graichen of Killingworth and Nancy and Robert McNanley of Sterling, Va.; his son and daughter-in-law, Perry and Margaret Taylor of Yalesville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Geraldine Spooner of New Port Richey, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Natalie Scott.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 2911 Dixwell Ave., No. 104, Hamden, CT 06518.

Evelyn H. Westervelt

WALLINGFORD -- Evelyn Jean Huizinga Westervelt, 90, of 14 Lupine St., died Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the wife of the late John L. Westervelt Jr. a long time principal of Parker Farms School in Wallingford.

She was born in Holland, Mich., Feb. 13, 1912, a daughter of the late George and Dena Kooiker Huizinga. Mrs. Westervelt was a graduate of Hope College in Holland, Mich. She was a very active member of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford, the Women's Fellowship, Dorcas Guild and a member of the Diaconate. She was a member of the Wallingford Garden Club, and A.A.U.W. She was a founder and former co-president of the Farmington Women's Club.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Dean Westervelt and his wife, Lorraine of Fairfield and Thomas John Westervelt of Ayer, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Katelyn Stephanie Westervelt and Christopher Robert Westervelt; three nieces, Joan DePree, Jean Brace and Judi Bradshaw; and two nephews, George Huizinga and William Casbarra. She was predeceased by a brother, Rutherford "Cub" G. Huizinga; and a sister, Gladys Marie DePree.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 28, at 4 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Wallingford, 23 South Main St. Burial will be at Pilgrim Cemetery in Holland, Mich. Friends may call at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., on Sunday, May 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be made to the First Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 23 South Main St., Wallingford 06492.

Carleton H. Burt

WALLINGFORD -- Carleton H. Burt, 85, beloved husband of 61 years of Edna Larned Burt of Ashlar Village, Wallingford, formerly of Samoset Ave., North Haven, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at the Masonic Geriatric and Healthcare Center in Wallingford.

Born in New Bedford, Mass., Dec. 20, 1916, he was a son of the late Edward C. and Martha Dyson Burt. He had been a resident of North Haven for 50 years until moving to Wallingford three years ago. Mr. Burt was a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston with a Degree in Engineering, and had been employed by several area Companies including North & Judd Manufacturing in Middlefield until his retirement 20 year ago. He was a member and Past Master of the Southington Masonic Friendship Lodge No. 33 AF & AM.

Besides his beloved wife, Edna, he is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha B. and Roger Hassard of Waterford and Nancy B. and Stephen Desrosiers of Lowell, Mass.; his four grandsons, Daniel and James Hassard and Timothy and Jeremy Drelick; and his half brother, Richard E. Burt of West Hartford.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Memorial services will be held at a time and place to be announced. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450 or to Hospice and Palliative Care, 33 North Plains Industrial Road, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Raymond S. Geremia Sr.

WALLINGFORD -- Raymond S. Geremia Sr., 80, of Old Woods Road, Wallingford, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at the Masonic Geriatric and Healthcare Center in Wallingford. He was beloved husband of Marie Valenti Geremia.

Born in Wallingford, Sept. 28, 1921, he was a son of the late Sylvester and Concetta D'Andrea Geremia, he had been a lifelong resident. Mr. Geremia was an Office Manager at Valenti Chevrolet in Wallingford for 34 years until his retirement. He was a volunteer at the former Meriden Wallingford Hospital and the MidState Medical Center, a life member of the Knights of Columbus Pinta Council No. 5 of Wallingford and a life member of the Wallingford Rod and Gun Club. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in the Yalesville section of Wallingford and had been an usher for the parish.

Besides his beloved wife, Marie, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Karen M. and Pete Peterson of Thornton, N.H.; his son, Raymond S. Geremia Jr. of Wallingford; his sister and brother-in-law, Norma and George Kraussman of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Louise Geremia, Rose Cox and Ida Shulga; and a brother, John Geremia.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center Foundation, 12 Charter Oak Place, Hartford, CT 06106 or to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 382 Hope Hill Road, Yalesville, CT 06492.

Marilyn P. Happy

WALLINGFORD -- Marilyn Phillips Happy, 75, of Putter Drive, Wallingford, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the beloved wife of Robert C. Happy Sr.

Born in New Haven, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret Coffey Phillips, she had been a Wallingford resident for many years. She was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection, a Confirmation Teacher for the parish, the Co-Chairperson of the Social Justice Committee of the parish, a past member of the Wallingford Library Board, and a Golden Circle member of the Albertus Magnus College Alumnae Association of New Haven.

Besides her beloved husband, Robert, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Ann and Michael Gallagher of Midlothian, Va.; her three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert C. Happy Jr. and Lynn W. Happy of New York City, Raymond P. and Carolyn L. Happy of New Haven and Frederic J. and Katherine H. Happy of Clayton, Calif.; her eight grandchildren, Caitlin, Michael, Elizabeth, William, Meredith, Sarah, Eleanor and Katherine; her sister and brother-in-law, Ellen P. and Garwood P. Wilson of Wallingford; her four nieces, Susan, Mary, Betsy and Carrie; and her two nephews, John and Thomas.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford will be private. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Social Justice Committee, c/o the Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford, CT 06492.
