Concetta K. Radcliffe
MERIDEN -- Concetta Katherine Radcliffe, 102, of 380 Crown St., died on Thursday, May 16, 2002, at the Curtis Home.
Born in new York City on March 19, 1900, daughter of the late Anthony and Rose Bontempo, she had resided in Meriden for a number of years. Mrs. Radcliffe was a graduate of Beacon Falls, Naugatuck High School and was employed by Peter Paul, Inc. and the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital, retiring in 1967. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, Meriden, and was a member of the Beacon Valley Grande, Naugatuck, the V.F.W., Army Air Forces Aircraft Warning Services Reserve, the American Legion, the YWCA, the Meriden Senior Citizens and the Meriden Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Radcliffe is survived by three grandchildren, Kathryn, Frederick and Mia Radcliffe; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and David Radcliffe; three sisters, Jane Corby, Josephine Jackson and Violet Beck; two brothers, Alfred and Albert Bontempo; also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Frederick Radcliffe; two sisters, Flora O'Connor and Rose Feinberg, and two brothers, Marshall and Edward Bontempo.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. There will be no calling hours. Robert L. Rehm
SOUTHINGTON -- Robert L. Rehm 76, of 34 Blue Hills Drive, died Friday, May 17, 2002, at home after battling a long illness. He was the husband of Dorothy (Mann) Rehm.
Born in Meriden on Dec. 29, 1925, he was the son of the late Edward and Jeanette (Lamont) Rehm. He had been a resident of Meriden for over 60 years and Southington for 16 years. Mr. Rehm was a U.S. Army-Air Force veteran during World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He had been a corporate auditor for the IRS for 33 years and retired in 1991. He was a member of the Grace United Church. Mr. Rehm was actively involved with his church and was a member of the Financial Board of Directors. In his retirement years he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Dorothy.
Besides his wife of 52 years, he is survived by his children, John Rehm and his wife, Carroll-Sue of Charlton, Mass., Daniel Rehm of Bristol and Linda Wiegert and her husband, Brian of Wallingford; he is also survived by four grandchildren, Christina and Michael Rehm and Christopher and Kimberly Wiegert. He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Rehm.
A memorial service will be on Thursday, May 23, at the Grace United Methodist Church at 4p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Judith A. Aykroyd
WALLINGFORD -- Judith A. Aykroyd, 46, of North Elm St., passed onto a better place surrounded by her loved ones, Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Middlesex Hospice after a courageous fight with multiple sclerosis.
Born in Bethlehem, Pa., Dec. 20, 1955, Judy was the daughter of Jacqueline "The Mimi" Horlacher Aykroyd of Wallingford and the late Pierce Aykroyd, she had been a Wallingford resident for 30 years. She was a graduate of the Lyman Hall High School, class of 1973, and had worked in the engineering department at SNET, in New Haven, before her medical retirement. She enjoyed playing softball with her extended family, The Custom Photo team, and coached a Wallingford Jr. Girls Softball team for many years. Other interests were flower arranging, going to the beach and annual pig roasts.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her dedicated longtime companion, Kim Height of Wallingford; her brothers and sisters, Douglas Aykroyd, Sue Callahan, Wayne Aykroyd, Janet DeBaise and Sara Gilson; and their spouses; her grandparents, Edwin and Dorothea Horlacher and Edith Aykroyd, all of Bethlehem, Pa.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was a special auntie to Jessie Callahan, David, Katie and Alyssa Aykroyd, Shelby and Emily Aykroyd, T.J. and Nicole DeBaise and Shawna Gilson. Along with her father, Pierce, she was predeceased , and joins her niece, Melissa Aykroyd; and grandfather, Arthur Aykroyd in heaven.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Wednesday, from 4:30 to 6:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Wallingford Funeral Home, Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Interment will be private. Meg Curley
SOUTHINGTON -- Meg (Cowles) Curley, 40, of 718 Meriden Waterbury Rd., entered into rest on Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Sean Curley.
Meg was born in Waterbury on March 14, 1962, daughter of Theresa (Slovinski) Cowles of Southington and the late Charles Cowles. She was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by a daughter, Jacelyn Curley; a sister, Jessica and her husband, Jeff English, all of Southington; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be on Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., for a Mass at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Summer St. Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Norman S. Deming
WALLINGFORD -- Norman Spencer Deming, 79, of 16 McGuire Court, died Friday, May 17, 2002, surrounded by his loving family at the home of his daughter, Caroline Deming. He was the husband of the late Wanda Anderson Deming.
He was born in New Haven, June 28, 1922, the son of the late Fred and Maude Joab Deming. He was a lifelong resident of Wallingford, a graduate of Robert Early School. Mr. Deming enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country for three years during World War II, as a Radioman on the Naval Destroyer, U.S.S. Hutchins, DD476. While serving, his ship engaged in many battles including Okinawa, where the U.S.S. Hutchins was damaged and the crew suffered casualties while conducting fire support for U.S. forces. A decorated veteran, Mr. Deming was awarded the Philippine Liberation with 1 star, the Asiatic-Pacific with 4 stars, the Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. A music lover, Mr. Deming played several instruments including saxophone, clarinet and accordion. He shared his love of music with his children who enjoy all types of music today, thanks to their Dad. He had been employed at American Cyanamid for 30 years.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Diane Deming of Meriden; three daughters and son-in-law, Barbara and Donald Pisarz of Wallingford, Caroline Deming and Heidi Deming, both of Meriden; and ten grandsons; five granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two daughters, Christine Lynn Deming and Linda Lee Appell; sister, Maude Graves; and two brothers, Glendon Deming and Howard Deming.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 235 Pond Hill Rd. Friends may call at the B. C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St. on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial with military honors will be at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. Tesha L. Raptis
SOUTHINGTON -- Tesha Lynn Raptis, 31, of 190 Carter Lane, died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Yale New Haven Hospital
She was born Dec. 3, 1970, in Waterbury, daughter of Ray and Lois (Carola) Raptis. She had been employed at New Britain Transportation for 12 years.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her paternal grandmother, Fannie Raptis of West Haven; and maternal grandmother, Eileen Cirone of Florida; a brother, John Raptis; and several aunts and uncles.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Gerald S. Shepherd
WALLINGFORD -- Gerald S. Shepherd, 89, formerly of Marshfield, Mass., died May 18, 2002 in the Masonic Health Care Center, Wallingford after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Edith B. (Magoun).
He was born in North Hanover and graduated from the Hanover High School. He had lived in Marshfield since 1950 and moved to Connecticut in 1997. He retired from Ratheon where he worked as a Machinist for many years. Prior to Ratheon he worked as an arborist for the Hanley Tree Service. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Rockland, and a Deacon at the First Congregational Church in Marshfield.
He was the father of Kenneth Shepherd of Maine and Joanne Minion of Connecticut; brother of Harry Shepherd of Maine and Barbara Talbot of Plymouth; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland, Mass, Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Calling hours are Wednesday from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. Donations may be made to the Historic Winslow House Assoc., P.O. Theodore C. Horwitz
WINDSOR -- Theodore Charles Horwitz, 36, of 71 Victoria St., Windsor, died Friday, May 17, 2002.
Born in Rochester, N.Y., he was the son of Theodore and Crystal (Martin) Horwitz.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Alexandra Horwitz and her mother, Cindy Horwitz; two sisters, Reina Horwitz and Anya (Horwitz) Lyons; paternal grandmother, Reina Horwitz; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Martin; and a dear friend, Stephanie DiMauro.
Funeral services will be held at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Middletown, on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and interment will be at the convenience of the family. Jean Kania
SOUTHINGTON -- Jean (Kaniewski) Kania, 85, of 123 Beechwood Drive died Monday, May 20, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Frank E. Kania.
Born in Oct. 23, 1916, the daughter of the late Felix and Mary (Cichon) Kaniewski. She was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church, she was a member of the Immaculata Woman's Club and The Rosary Society. Mrs. Kania was a volunteer at the Alzheimer's Resource Center and also at Ridgewood Health Care Center.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John David and Linda Kania; and a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Roger Badgley, both of Southington; three grandchildren, William D. Kania, Carrie A. Kania and Pamela Badgley; a sister, Harriett Kaneska of Terryville; a brother, Stanley Kaniewski of Thomaston; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother, Joseph Kaniewski; and a sister, Sophie Kaczypenski.
The funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to Immaculate Conception Church at 10 a.m. for a Mass. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
