Gerald Gorr
SOUTHINGTON -- Gerald Gorr, 56, of Grove St., in the Plantsville section of Southington, died Monday, May 13, 2002 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of 33 years of MaryAnn Raymond Gorr.
Born in Southington, Oct. 27, 1945, a son of Gladys Chaswick Gorr of Plainville and the late Harry Gorr, he had been a lifelong Southington resident. Mr. Gorr was a chauffeur for Managed Transportation in Plainville, had served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was active in the Southington Police Auxiliary. He was a longtime Little League coach and umpire in the Southington Youth Leagues and was honored to umpire the Senior League World Series in Florida in 1990. He also was a former league officer for Southington Valley Midget Football.
Besides his wife, MaryAnn and his mother, Gladys, he is survived by one son, Thomas Gorr and his wife, Tara of Southington; one daughter, Kerri Gorr of Plantsville and her special friend, Michael Affhauser; two brothers, Kenneth Gorr and his wife, Darlene of Bristol and Alan Gorr and his wife, Kathleen of Southington; he also leaves a sister-in-law, Susan Gorr of Torrington; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Gorr.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 16, at 10 a.m. from the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jimmy Hernandez
MERIDEN -- Jimmy Hernandez, 48, of Meriden, beloved husband of Nancy (Zayas) Hernandez, died Saturday, May 11, 2002 at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born July 4, 1953 in Manhattan, N.Y., he was the son of Efrain Hernandez and the late Virginia Caban. Mr. Hernandez was employed by Wal-Mart and was a member of the Alpha and Omega Church.
Besides his wife of 11 years and father of Puerto Rico, he is survived by a daughter, Sarai Hernandez of Waterbury; two brothers, Angelo Hernandez of Manhattan, N.Y. and Raymond Hernandez of York, Pa.; one sister, Patricia Hernandez of Manhattan, N.Y. He was predeceased by one brother, Frank Hernandez.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, May 17, at 10 a.m. at the Iglesia Cristiana Pentecostal, 60 Liberty St., Meriden. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family in Jimmy's memory.
Brittnay S. Hettrich
WALLINGFORD -- Brittnay Susanne Hettrich, infant daughter of Dale L. Hettrich Sr. and Valerie L. Vetro Hettrich of South Cherry St., Wallingford, died Thursday, May 2, 2002 in Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her three brothers, Dale L. Hettrich Jr., Justin Hettrich and Timothy Hettrich, all of Wallingford; her maternal grandparents, Leonard and Susanne Vetro of Northford; her paternal grandmother, Dolores (Mrs. Edgar) Hettrich of East Haven; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside funeral services and interment will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in St. John Cemetery
in Wallingford. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford.
Peter Kozak
SOUTHINGTON -- Peter Kozak, 90, of Darling St., in Southington, died Monday, May 13, 2002 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the husband of the late Helen Wojtunik Kozak.
Born in Wallingford, July 28, 1911, son of the late John and Mary Bajek Kozak, he live in Meriden for 40 years before moving to Southington. Mr. Kozak was a supervisor for Creative Management of Flanders West before his retirement in 1986 and was a member of St. Dominic Church. When he lived in Meriden he owned and operated Kozak's Market and the Corner Variety Store.
He is survived by two sons, Peter Kozak of Jacksonville, Fla., and John Kozak of Plainville; two daughters, Carol Ross of Meriden and Bonnie Norman of Southington; two sisters, Helen Bongirno of Wallingford and Julie Brenner of California; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, May 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church. Burial will follow in South End Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville is handling the arrangements.
Madeline Achino
WALLINGFORD -- Madeline Agosta Achino, 78, of Old Lane, Wallingford, beloved wife of the late Edward J. Achino, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at the Skyview Center in Wallingford.
Born in Forestville, Aug. 30, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Corrado and Frances Savasta Agosta and had been a lifelong Wallingford resident. Mrs. Achino had been associated with her late husband, Edward, in the operation of the former My Cousin's Place Restaurant and the former Main Street USA Restaurant, both in Wallingford for many years until their retirements. She had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star Mizpah Chapter in Wallingford.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Frank McLeod of Wallingford and Lynn and Joseph Abeleira of North Haven; six grandchildren, Heather Colton, Maghan Mcleod, Mary Mcleod, Sam McLeod, John Abeleira and Andrew Abeleira; her three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Louise and William Claffey of Plantsville, Aurora (Mrs. Walter) Zulkowski of Florida., and Flavia and John Gwara of Meriden; her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Dorothy Agosta of New York and Jack and Rosalie Agosta of the Yalesville section of Wallingford. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Sherry Mangiafico.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford Thursday from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Wallingford Funeral Home, Thursday at 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held in the In Memoriam Cemetery

Caroline Adinolfi
WALLINGFORD -- Caroline Adinolfi, 96, of Masonic Geriatric Health Care Center, Wallingford, formerly of Hillside Village, Cheshire died at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2002.
Mrs. Adinolfi was born June 8, 1905, in Brooklyn, N.Y., wife of the late Carmine J. Adinolfi; daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Rubistelli) Monetti. She was a graduate of St. Catherine of Alexandria School, Brooklyn, N.Y. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Cheshire Congregational Church, UCC. She devoted her life to her church, family and needy. She was a woman of good works and charity and personally supported the services to the needy of the New York City Mission Society. As a young woman she worked as a doctor's nurses' aide. Then when she married she went to work in the Woman's apparel industry. While she was a church volunteer, she taught young community center girls how to sew. She was an accomplished Soprano and performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music as well as a soloist for many Church Choirs and community events. Once she retired and moved to Connecticut she continued her devotion to Christian music, and otherwise entertained the members of the Senior Citizens Center in Cheshire for 18 years with her lovely voice and her own piano accompaniment.
She leaves behind her sister, Madeline Nelson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughter, Rosalind Loguidice, Long Island, N.Y., Teresa Fow of Naugatuck; sons, former State Representative, Alfred Adinolfi of Cheshire and Rev. Richard L. Adinolfi of Pottstown, Pa.; in addition she leaves 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Walter C. Fahnestock
SOUTHINGTON -- Walter C. Fahnestock, 78, of Southington, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at home after a long courageous battle with Gastric Cancer.
Born in Jacksonville, Fla., son of the late John and Veda Fahnestock. Walter had been a 35 year Southington resident. He was predeceased by his brother, John Jr. After completion of high school in 1941, he moved to Teaneck, N.J. His first position was in the Accounting Department of Home Insurance Company in NYC, and it was there that he met his future bride, Dorothy Safford (better known to Southington Library Patrons as "Mrs. Dot.") He served over seas with the 6th Marine Division and was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Platoon Sergeant. IN 1948, he graduated from Rider College in Trenton, N.J., with a Bachelors degree in Accounting. His first employment was with Franke, North, Hannon and Whitney CPA in their Troy, N.Y., office and became licensed as a Certified Public Accountant. His subsequent employment was with Principally NYSE Corporations, including but not limited to, Scoville Mfg. Co., Ryder System, Mohasco Industries Inc., and Babcox and Wilcox, where he held various positions of Fiduciate Responsibility. He was a member of several professional organizations including the American Institute of CPA's and the Institute of Management Accts. Prior to his retirement, he was an active member of the Financial Executive Institute and served as President of the Albany, N.Y. Chapter. He was also a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his loving and courageous wife of 59 years, Dorothy Fahnestock; his son, Al Fahnestock; two nieces, Jodene Krepps and Lynda Cyr; several cousins including, Bob Sivacoe and Sandy Sivacoe; he especially wants to remember longtime family friends, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Fuchs of Milldale and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Fuchs of Brunswick, Maine.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 17, at 12 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville. The Rev. Gordon Ellis of the First Congregational Church will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends and family may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Sgt. Major Richard Majchrzak
ST. ALBANS, W.V. -- Sergeant Major Richard "Mike" Majchrzak, 75, died Saturday, May 11, 2002 at C.A.M.C. General Hospital in Charleston, W.V., after a long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Edna F. Jones Majchrzak and the late Marion Ruth Lucia Majchrzak.
He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., May 6, 1927, a son of the late Andrew and Victoria Gwitt Majchrzak. He was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps for 33 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary Alen and Diana Majchrzak of Meriden; a stepdaughter, Kay Goldsberry of Dunbar, W.V.; a sister, Helen Majchrzak of Frederick, Md.; two grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Majchrzak; three step-grandchildren, John, Joshua and James Harbert; a great-grandson, Zachary Alexander Majchrzak; a step-great-grandson, Dakota Matthew Harbert; a step-great-granddaughter, Sabrina Dawn Majchrzak; and a God-son, Mark Piniarski of New York.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, May 17, at 10 a.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Old Colony Road, Meriden with Rev. Dean Warburton and Rev. Margaret Jay of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford officiating. There are no calling hours in Connecticut. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford, is in charge of local arrangements.
Helen Tylec
MERIDEN -- Helen Tylec, 92, formerly of Silver Street, Meriden, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at the Oak Cliff Nursing Home in Waterbury.
A memorial Mass for Helen will be held Saturday, May 18, at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden is in charge of arrangements.
