Eleanor G. Williamson
WALLINGFORD -- Eleanor G. Frye Williamson, 90, formerly of Silver Pond Apartments, Center Street, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Skyview Center in Wallingford. She was the wife of the late James Williamson.
Born Oct. 24, 1911, a daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Frye, she had been a Laconia, N.H. resident until moving to Connecticut many years ago. She had been employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Corp. in North Haven.
She is survived by her three daughters and son-in-law, Ann Fitfield and Leonard Fitfield of Wallingford, and Jean Piper and Mari-Lu Williamson, both of Laconia, N.H.; her son, James Eliott Williamson of Meriden; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lu-Ann Bursch.
Funeral services and interment in Laconia, N.H. will be privately held. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville.
Helen Cobey
MERIDEN -- Helen (Kane) Cobey, 89, wife of the late Edmund T. Cobey, died on Saturday, May 4, 2002, at MidState Medical Center.
Born in Meriden on March 21, 1913, the daughter of the late James P. Kane Sr. and Alma Chalifoux Kane, she had been a lifelong resident of this city. Mrs. Cobey attended local schools and was a graduate of Meriden High School. She was employed by New Departure Co., Hyatt Bearing Div. of General Motors for a number of years prior to her retirement. Mrs. Cobey was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church and a member of Meriden Women's Club.
She is survived by a niece, Kathlyn Veronesi of Kensington; two nephews, James F. Kane of West Hartford and John C. Kane of Palm Bay, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Sara Kane, Theadora Pat Reid and Claire C. Barre, all of Meriden; also several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, James, John and George Kane, all of Meriden.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima church, 35 Center St., Meriden for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning prior to the Mass from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Frank E. Doyle
WALLINGFORD -- Frank E. Doyle, 70, of Blakeslee Rd., beloved husband of Frances M. Opalinski Doyle, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at their home.
Mr. Doyle was born in Pittston, Pa., Sept. 6, 1931, a son of the late Harold and Nora Laurin Doyle, and had been a Wallingford resident for the past 42 years. He had been a locomotive engineer for the Metro North Railroad for many years until his retirement in 1995. He was a parishioner of The Church of The Resurrection, was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of the Wallingford Lodge of Elks No. 1365, and the Hungarian Community Club.
Besides his wife, Frances, he is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janice and John Thurston of Wallingford, Mary Claire and Andrew Whalen of Guilford, and Joyce Doyle of West Haven; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Michael and Sharon Doyle of Durham, Patrick and Ann Marie Doyle of Wallingford, Peter and Karen Doyle of Northford, Mark and Debra Doyle of Guilford, and Frank Doyle of Wallingford; 18 grandchildren; a sister, Margaret (Mrs. Kenneth) Parady of Nashua, N.H.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jack and Madelyn Doyle of Wallingford, Thomas Paul Doyle of Milford, and Charles and Ann Marie Doyle of North Haven; cousins, Thomas and Mary Ann Doyle of North Haven; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Bernard "Buddy" Doyle; and his stepmother, Agnes Doyle.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday from 4 to 9 a.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to The Church of The Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Rd., Wallingford, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in All Saints Mausoleum, North Haven. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to The Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
Martha C. Gosselin
MERIDEN -- Martha C. Gosselin, 47, of 140 Summer St., wife of David Gosselin, died on Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a brief illness.
Born in New Haven on Nov. 18, 1954, the daughter of Pat and Barbara (Miller) Ciaburri. Mrs. Gosselin had resided in Meriden for the past 25 years and had graduated from Cheshire High School. She was employed by The City of Meriden at John Barry Elementary School. She was a board member of the Wallingford Hawks.
Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by her daughter, Tamsin-Marie Gosselin; and son, Matthew Gosselin, both of Meriden; a sister, Michelle Ciaburri; and a brother, Patrick Ciaburri, both of Cheshire. She is also survived by a niece, Jennifer; and three nephews, Stephen-Eugene, Christopher, Thomas.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, and at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Church. Burial location will be announced in Tuesday's Record-Journal. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450-1004.
Dr. Daniel Kahn
MERIDEN -- Dr. Daniel Kahn, of 98 Rolling Hills Drive and North Bridgton, Maine died on May 5 at MidState Medical Center after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Dr. Kahn was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Sidney Kahn and the late Elma Kahn Kaufman. He was married for almost 50 years to Ruth E. (Pollack) Kahn. From 1945-1946, Daniel Kahn served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Division as a cryptographer. Dr. Kahn received his A.B. degree from Columbia College in 1949 and his M.D. degree from the State University of N.Y. Downstate Medical Center of Brooklyn in 1953. After a three year Internal Medicine and Cardiology Fellowship at Yale New Haven Hospital and the West Haven, V.A., he opened his office at 130 E. Main St., Meriden, where he practiced internal medicine and cardiology from 1957 until his retirement in 1992. For 35 years he was affiliated with the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital where he was Secretary of the Board 1965-1967, Chief of Medicine 1967-1971 and Medical Director of the Cardiac Rehab Program 1980-1992. He also served as the first Chief of Cardiology and was Director of Medical Education. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the Meriden Medical Society, New Haven County Medical Association, American Medical Association, American Society of Internal Medicine, and American Society of Echocardiography. In the late 1960's Dr. Kahn was instrumental in the organization and development of the Cardiac Care Unit at Meriden-Wallingford Hospital. It was only the second one in the state at the time. In 1980, he established and became the Program Director of the Cardiac Rehab Program at Meriden-Wallingford Hospital, which was considered on of the best in the state. Dr. Kahn was recognized as an outstanding photographer and received many awards for his beautiful images and his creativity in this field. In July 2001, he was awarded an honorary degree (M.N.E.C.) at the New England Camera Club annual conference at Amherst, Mass. for his outstanding work as a photographer and his contributions in the field. For over 30 years he was an active member of Castle Craig Camera Club and served as its president 1994-1996. He was program chairman for Castle Craig Camera Club and held many other positions. He also was a judge for photo competitions throughout the state and conducted photography workshops. With his wife, Ruth, he produced numerous travel and nature slide slows, which were highly acclaimed throughout Connecticut. During the 10 years of his retirement, he was an active member of the Y's Men of Meriden and served a term as its chairman. He was also a member of the Meriden Bridge Club where he competed eagerly twice a week in their duplicate bridge game. He was an Associate Member of the Meriden-Wallingford Chapter of Hadassah and a member of Temple B'nai Abraham where he served on the Board of Directors.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Dr. Steven Kahn and his wife, Pam of Glastonbury, Julie Liseo of Meriden, Andrew Kahn and his wife, Paula of Madison, Dr. Benjamin Kahn and his wife, Ziza of Cheshire, and Amy and Robert Jensen of Naples, Maine. He also leaves 10 grandchildren, Fays Liseo, Samson Liseo, Alyssa Kahn, Seth Kahn, Matthew Kahn, Jonathan Kahn, Sarah Kahn, Emma Kahn, Rachel Jensen and Jessica Jensen. He is survived by his twin sister, Lois Blatt of Rockville Center, N.Y.; a niece, Vicki Callahan of Farmingdale, N.Y.; a nephew, Ronald Gruber of St. Thomas, V.I.; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Monday , May 6, 2002, at 12 noon at Temple B'Nai Abraham, 127 E. Main St., Meriden, with Rabbi Gloria S. Rubin, officiating. Burial will be in B'Nai Abraham Cemetery. A Period of Mourning will be held at his late residence, 98 Rolling Hills Dr., Meriden from Monday evening through Wednesday evening. Should friends desire, donations in Dr. Kahn's memory may be made to MidState Medical Center, the Daniel Kahn Memorial Fund at Temple B'Nai Abraham, or to the charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.
David F. Miniter
NEW HAVEN -- David F. Miniter, 91, of Eastern St., (Bella Vista), died May 3, 2002, in New Haven.
He was born June 11, 1910 in New Haven, a son of the late Bartholomew and Margaret Mary Fahey Miniter. He was a graduate of Hillhouse High School. And was employed for over 50 years in the automated accounts department of the New York-New Haven-Hartford Railroad. David was active in many local organizations, including the Brotherhood of Railway clerks where he was a past president, the Republican Party where he had served on the Republican Town Committee for the town of New Haven, the commission for the elderly for the City of New Haven and the Atwater Senior Citizens. He was also very proud of his work with the SNET on the development of several programs which aided senior citizens.
He was the husband of the late Anne Degnall Miniter; father of John F. Miniter and wife, Patricia of S. Meriden; grandfather of David J. Miniter, Frances Cameron, Susan DellaVecchia and Christopher L. Miniter; great-grandfather of Craig and Courtney Miniter and Julie and Joseph DellaVecchia; brother of Katherine Goosman of Venice, Fla., and the late Bartholomew, Raymond and James Miniter.
Funeral services are Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. from the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, with a Mass of Christian burial in St. Bernadette Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Margaret Perzanowski
FALMOUTH, Mass. -- Margaret (Payunk) Perzanowski, 81, passed away at the Falmouth Hospital on May 5th. She was the wife of the late Theodore Perzanowski.
Margaret was born in Czechoslovakia and moved to Connecticut in 1934. She worked for many years at Macristy Industries in New Britain, CT. In 1985 she retired and moved to Falmouth, Mass. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony's Church. Her family, friends and faith were the most important things in her life. She was also an avid Red Sox and Bruins fan.
She is survived by three daughters, Rosemarie Jankowsky and her husband, Alphonse, both of Meriden, Patricia DeLorenze and her husband, Robert, both of E. Hampton, and Linda Howard and her husband, William, both of Falmouth; three grandchildren, Kevin and Jessica Howard, both of Falmouth and Eric Jankowsky of Meriden; one brother, John Payunk and his wife, Josephine, both of Alpharetta, Ga.; and one sister, Jane Shea and her husband, Michael, both of Seymour.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday May 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main St., Falmouth, Mass. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8 at St. Anthony Church, 167 E. Falmouth Hwy (Rt. 28), E. Falmouth, Mass. Burial will be on Thursday, May 9 at 12 noon at Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain, CT. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1115 W. Mollie Branch
MERIDEN -- Mollie Branch, 90, of Linsley Ave., Meriden died Sunday, May 5, 2002 at Brook Hollow Heath Care in Wallingford.
She was born April 17, 1912 in Whitakers, N.C. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring, caregiver and friend to all.
She leaves to morn her, god-daughter, Dorothy Wilson, with whom she made her home in Meriden; her two god-sons, Curtis Daniel of Meriden and Lee Daniel of North Carolina; a longtime friend, Vernice Daniel of Hartford; and a host of many grand-god children.
The calling hours will be on Wednesday, May 8, from 10 to 11 a.m. with the burial to follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery
in Meriden. The Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Richard D. Smith
WALLINGFORD -- Richard D. Smith, 51, of Prince St., Wallingford, died Sunday, May 5, 2002 in his home. He was the beloved husband of Cheryl E. Vertucci Smith.
Born in New Haven, Dec. 6, 1950, a son of Harold L. Smith of Hamden and the late Irene Overend Smith, he was raised in Hamden and had lived in West Haven before moving to Wallingford in 1979. He had been employed by Northeast Utilities and had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He was a very active member of the VFW Maj. Raoul Lufbery Post No. 591 of Wallingford.
Besides his wife and father, Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter, April L. Smith of Wallingford; his son, Sean M. Smith of Wallingford; his two sisters and brother-in-law, Karen and Gary Lamb of Ohio and Kathie Smith of Hamden; his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold L. Smith Jr. and Gayle Smith of West Haven and Kenny and Ronnie Smith of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Wallingford Funeral Home.
