Eleonora L. Piga
WALLINGFORD -- Lia Piga surrounded by her children, Mary and John, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, April 27, 2002. She was 68 years old.
Lia was born in the town of Ozieri on the Italian island of Sardinia on Feb. 20, 1934. She lived there until 1955, when she crossed the Atlantic onboard the Andrea Doria. She made her home in the Greenwich/Stamford area for the next 22 years and moved to Wallingford in 1977, following Dataproducts, the company where she worked for 25 years. Both at work and outside of work, Lia was known for her high energy and passionate regard for both people and getting things done. Though relatively small in stature (5'1" if you asked her, about 5' in reality,) Lia was a large presence in the lives of all the people she touched. Whether drinking coffee, eating unhealthy amounts of chocolate, shopping at Talbots, or planning her next trip to Sardinia, Lia maintained a youthful enthusiasm for all things, and all the people she loved. As a result, she was greatly loved in return.
She will be greatly missed by her two children, Mary Reichlen and John Piga; her grandson, Matteo Piga; her daughter-in-law, Molly Payne; her sisters, Peppina D'Alessandro of San Giuseppe Vesuviano, Italy, Mary Tedde of Alghero, Sardinia and Carmela Polo of Ozieri, Sardinia; many cousins, nieces and nephews in Italy; and by many, many dear friends here in the States and in Italy. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.
